SystemUI has me quite stuck - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay so I have the No name rom running on my v10. I also run G4 Tweaksbox for general customization. This morning, I installed a TweaksBox UI Theme. Worked fine after restarting the apps but now after restarting the phone, I realize it doesn't play nice with this rom's patched system ui.
Wouldn't be a problem to fix, except I have no means of entering recovery. The keyboard shortcuts have never worked for me to boot into recovery. And now that SystemUI won't let android run long enough between error messages to allow usb debugging, I can't reboot into recovery using adb. Fastboot can only reboot to the bootloader.
I'm feeling stranded. Anyone have any ideas, I really don't wanna flash a system image and lose everything. I've gotten everything just the way I wanted after 3 or 4 days and haven't had a chance to back it all up. I was planning on doing that after the theming
Please
Help
Thanks

If you just need to get into recovery, it should definitely be doable. I had trouble with the button combination too, but i think I got it: with the phone powered off, hold power and volume down, just until the LG logo comes on. Release the power button only and then press it again, with volume down still depressed, and you should get a screen asking if you wanna factory reset. What I've read is that if you select yes, it doesn't actually wipe your data but takes you to recovery. Browse a few threads to verify if you like, I've seen people say that. Anyway, good luck and I hope you get it fixed.

That worked very well. Thank you. I'll remember the new key combo for future reference.

Glad it worked for ya. Just keep in mind, I was informed that if you ever happen to still have stock recovery installed, it WILL indeed wipe your data. It's only because TWRP is custom recovery that the data wipe doesn't work as it says

Good to know thank you

[Q] Standard Factory Reset Having No Effect

Friend has a Tab 10.1 running stock 4.0.4.
After an indeterminate period of time it randomly reboots back to what appears to be a former saved state, so you basically can't do anything with it. If you remove or update apps, or change settings each reboot will restore the previous settings and the apps you deleted. When doing a factory data reset via the OS nothing changes, it still reboots right back into aforementioned saved state.
After getting into the recovery menu with the volume down+power button and formatting the data and cache, it reboots and again into the same saved state.
What's actually causing this? What can be done to just restore it to its original factory state? Is it malware (Norton couldn't detect any)?
Could it be corrupted internal memory? (Ie hardware?)
OK this is really weird now.
I flashed CW Recovery via ODIN and the recovery mode remained as stock Android System Recovery <3e>.
When I go to access 'apply update from exernal storage' there is no path.
Factory reset still has no impact.
This thing's messed up.
Sounds eerily familiar to the cricket huawei mercury. Essentially, cricket sent an OTA muve music that bricked the device and made the system completely unwriteable... I dont know the specifics but even with all the elite devs out there by brother in law confirmed that there was nothing that couobd be done...
Look into those threads for possible starting points for a solution as I hope that times have improved for the better

Im sure with the mercury that if one had all the tools to reflash the chip itself, something could be done but hopefully that isnt what you have to go through, keep us informed

Thanks so much for the reply. Will definitely look intp that.
One other thing I forgot to mention. It wont boot when connected via usb to my laptop. I can connect via usb after ive booted. Also when factory resetting there doesnt appear to be any delay into the reboot process.
Are there any diagnostics I can run perhaps via adb to see whats up?
When I was trying to get that Mercury working what I had to do, never did get it working mind you but, after all the basic Windows options I then decided to got the linux nautilus route... had to download Virtual Box with an out-of-date ubuntu, set up the system, usb, shared paths etc. Then after hours of troubleshooting finally was able to get my phone to read on the virtual machine in the right mode where terminal picked up the device. Tried to then push Superuser busybox and recovery.img (cwm)... files were picked up on the phone after booting but no root was obtained and like your situation custom recovery wasnt installed over the stock recovery. this is when I gave up
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
No good. Just could not fix it.
Flashed new roms, old roms, tried to deliberately break it with re-partition on Odin (with no PIT file specified), but NOTHING changed, constantly:
a) fails to boot under charge
b) reboots randomly
c) fails to install apps
d) reboots to a fixed state, where apps and settings remain fixed in stone.
Have to assume that the internal memory is f**cked as the recovery mode cannot access with the message "unkown volume for path /sdcard".
Due to every reboot resulting in a reversion to the aforementioned fix state I can't flash CWM Recovery, and I can't root it (so cannot gain access to system folders even via adb shell). Have to assume that if there is a fix for this it would involve a hardware hack of some description.
Hope this helps anyone else in the future.

[Q] {HELP Accidentally enabled something wrong}

Hi, I have an HTC Rezound running a CM 10.1 android 4.2.2 and i was fooling around on it the other night and enabled a 1280x920 overlay in dev settings and now phone is going haywire. the touchscreen still works but the screen glitches and shows settings the home then angry birds and it gets hot realy fast so i pulled battery in case of thermonuclear war inside of the phone. i was wondering if i could fix it without reflashing the rom because my phone is S-on so flashing boot.img is a pain but if thats what i have to do the ok but id rather not.

HTC REZOUND S-ON ANDROID 4.2.2 CM 10.1
Reflash if you don't have a recent nandroid.
ok thanx
Boot into safe mode. Google how to do it on android. It varies on android versions but when I did that on a 10.1 ROM and I think it was hold power+volume up than after HTC white screen let go of power and continue holding volume up till unlock screen. I can be wrong but that's what I did just Google it
You will know your in safe mode. It will say it at the bottom left part of the screen

OP
you can boot into recovery and wipe data partition. you will loose your apps and save files but it will get back to stock cm10 for ya.
what i would do is make a nandroid
wipe data partition
boot phone
use titanium backup and restore apps from nandroid
make sure you don't choose any system/ data that will show up
profit
of course this is if you cant get safe mode to work.

[Q] stuck while switching to from twrp cwm recover

i wanted to try the new cm 11 but needed to install cwm and i had twrp. all i read ssaid i could just flash it over top twrp, i did so and have been stuck at samsung loop. im not sure what to do, tried using odin to restore and now im lost. i dont know if i lost root or what but i have no custom recovery after trying to use odin to flash atwrp. i managed to get cwm to install originally but couldnt flash any roms or boot. i was running jelly beans latest build. any help would be great, ive rooted all my pphones but this note 2 gives me nothing but trouble.
You flashed the ROM on twrp or you flashed CWM on twrp? Can you get into download mode? Also, this sounds dumb, but are you holding volume up, home, and power to try and boot into recovery? And download mode is volume down , home, and power.

i flashed cwm using twrp. ya i know about the buttons. i can only get into download mode. i had something like this happen before but ill be damned if i know how to fix it. the info for the note 2 is a mess. every site references the same pages and those pages are confusing to me. i have dyslexia and it gets hard for me to grasp at times.
OK. I went through this on my s3 (same process on the note 2). It sounds like you will need to "Odin" back to stock since something got messed up. And it may have been something not of your doing. I will try and find you the thread on how to do this. What I do is read the thread a few times then write down what the steps are so I can look at that instead of swapping pages on the computer. I will try and post the link in a minute.

This should help you out. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask. Just a note (no pun intended) this will make you start over completely. It will be like your pulling your phone out of the box for the first time. So I would hope that any backups you had are on the external SD card and I highly suggest you backup the SD card before starting anything. Here's the link.

[Q] I'm rooted but can not get to recovery mode.

The other day I used the method tomsgt123 show in YouTube video with vroot. Root successful. However when I then downloaded goomanager and I installed to openscript, then I Rebooted to recovery the phone would not reboot properly(I got the green DROID dude and a message that phone can not boot to normal mode.) I then tried several time manually enter recovery mode to no avail. Same screen every time. I can get the phone operating normally by tapping volume down. I'm thinking that I need to fix this so my root will be worthwhile. Can someone help this noob out?
Thanks in advance.

Do you do a battery pull? When you turn the phone on, hold power and volume down (?) to boot into download mode. Then just cancel. It will get you out of that loop.
I found this suggestion too, Im not sure if that is from pulled battery state or not
hold the power button and the down volume key and it should ask you if you want to install a custom os or not and then you just hit cancel and it will boot regularly

Yes I am doing battery pull. Otherwise at the DROID dude I can not power down with power button.
I have already used the that approach. I did not explain as detailed as I should have. I can get the phone to boot up normally but I can not get to a place where I can flash. At least I think that's what I am trying to do.

Ok, I might have missed something but, the point of rooting is not to just be able to say you are rooted and restart your phone? As I understand it you should reboot to a recovery mode that then allows you to flash rom's and themes and other cool custom stuff. And most importantly allow me to delete bloatware. I don't seem to be able to do this with where I am right now.

You have no recovery to boot into...The only option to load any roms is to use safestrap. Safestrap is a type of recovery. HD11 is the only rom available to use. You really need to do some reading of these forums to understand what you can and can't do. Plenty of threads and posts

Exactly! Just because you have root doesn't mean you automatically get recovery. Root is the first, and most times, easiest step.

There is so much amazing information on this forum that it is hard to know where to start reading and if you did a teary in the right place. I took a leap of faith after reading and watching videos. So I guess my next step is to read more about safestrap and a few other areas I've been pointed towards.
Sometimes knowing where to start is more important than knowing where you are going. Thanks for all your efforts.

Downloading... Do not turn off target !!

Please Help! I have a 4.3 MJ7 Rooted Galaxy S4 running Hyperdrive. I bought the phone this way. Yesterday, I tried loading an OTA Hyperdrive update. It gave me two options - 1. Boot into Recovery, 2. Reboot and install. I picked reboot and install. When the phone came back on it is stuck in, Downloading... do not turn off target !!. It says at the top in small red letters - Could not do normal boot. ODIN MODE.
I have taken battery out, turned back on holding power, volume up, and home at same time to get into recovery and it just comes back to Downloading... do not turn off target !! screen every time. I just want to get this to power back on and I am unfamiliar with Odin and how to proceed. Please Help! Thank You.

I could be wrong here since I'm no longer a hyperdrive user...
I think when it tried sending you to recovery to install the update, that wasn't for SafeStrap. So when it did the reboot into recovery deal it was trying to send you to some form of custom recovery. Hence the error you ran into.
Like I said I could be wrong. Maybe ask the people in the hyperdrive thread. They'll know
