Any idea when NEW Galaxy Note Tablets with 4:3 aspect ratio are coming out? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know or have rumours of new Note tablets with 8 inch or 9.7 inch display (4:3 aspect ratio) are coming out in the future? Especially 8 inch variant hasn't been out for so long, but I'm eagerly waiting for one, but it has to be quick cause I can't wait for too long..Do you think it will be this christmas? Early next year? Maybe even wait until MWC? Any rumours?
I need the pen for the big screen, but Tab A9.7 display quality sucks, so I'm not into that.
Thanks.

Next Nexus should be N8

...and it should have an 8" 4:3 size for $200-250.
Why? It's the sweet spot of usability, combined with the sweet spot in consumer pricing ($200'ish).
iPad Mini (12 million est for this Q4) is reported to have higher demand than iPad 4, despite its low-res display and relative high price to the KFHD and N7.
For small tablets and of course phones, portrait mode is preferred. The mode lends itself better to one-handed use than landscape. When in this mode, the main spec that determine "tablet size" is display width, ie the larger the width, the more content you can see at a glance.
7" 16:10 tablets have a display width of 3.7". You can see how "small" they are by trying to read web pages in portrait.
iPad Mini's display width is 4.7", a full inch larger. It achieves this while maintaining a smaller physical width than KFHD (5.3" vs 5.4"), and being lighter than both KFHD and N7 (308g vs 394g and 340g, respectively). Mini also has better reported battery life than KFHD & N7 (12:43 per Engadget).
The Mini is almost as "large" as the N10. N10's display width is 5.3", only 0.6" more than Mini. However, it is much larger (less portable), heavier, and can't be used one-handed. It also has shorter battery life, and is more expensive.
Widescreen fans will no doubt disagree, and vids are certainly better on 16:10. But there's no argument that for one-handed use, portrait mode is best. iPad Mini is more portable than the 10" and have almost the same usability, being only 0.6" "smaller."
Instead of chasing after the "best" specs as N10 did, with resultant hits in lower battery life and higher price, I'd also submit that the Nexus 8 should have "good enough" specs, ie 1024x768 screen (what Mini has), and a Tegra 3 or equivalent. This should allow the $200-250 price range suggested above for 2013.
Why? Because for market share--how devs make their calculations on whether to develop for a platform--a $200 tablet counts the same as a $400 tablet. And it's a lot easier to sell more $200 tabs than $400 ones.
Edit: Yes, there are already Chinese 8" 4:3 tabs that are around the $120-150/qty1 range. But their quality is poor, battery life low, and of course no direct Google support. The suggested $200 price should be very doable, and also allow Goog/vendor a decent profit.
Discuss!
I actually would love a 12" tablet. screens smaller than 10" im not interested.
For someone who has just ordered their N10 I like reading these kind of threads.
I look forward to my N10 and think we will get enough use out of it to justify the purchase, so much so I think the next purchase would be a N7 for more portability. That being said, I like the widescreen look for "most" things but will see myself going portrait for webpages and a few games I suppose. I am getting the N10 for the whole family where I think the N7 is maybe a little more personal.
Either way viewing spec's are over my head but thanks for the info and opinion. An 8" would be interesting indeed.
I would love an 8.9 in tablet. A ton..
I think I'm at the point where I like using my Nexus 10 as my "portable" tablet and I'd be interested in having some kind of 15" or 17" coffee table tablet for sofa / bed use. I really don't need anything in between my Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 for size and if I did, my wife's Nexus 7 is definitely fine.
But, if Google wants to release an entire family, go for it.
Nexus 4 - phone
Nexus 5 - phablet
Nexus 6 - phablet
Nexus 7 - mini tablet
Nexus 8 - mini tablet
Nexus 9 - tablet
Nexus 10 - tablet
Nexus 12 - ultra tablet
Nexus 14 - ultra tablet
Nexus 16 - coffee table tablet
Nexus 20 - just. because.
I like the 7" due to its size the iPad mini might have a better display but it isn't as horrible that said you might as well buy a iPad 2 with the same specs and price. I want to see a N7 with a 1080P display which is achievable since 5" phones have them. It should have a dual a15 and 2 gb ram. A bigger battery and slimmer profile then the iPad mini it should also be made out of aluminium. It should only have a front facing camera and it should use the latest components with wireless charging. It should be also manufactured by google instead of Asus I do not like the fact that google uses hardware manufacturers to make a nexus device because it is then no longer pure android with LG or samsung written on the back rather it would feel like a google device with google written. O would rather have a product overpriced like the iPad mini that works then to buy a bargain that doesn't work like the N7 and its cheap components.

You're suggesting Google begin hardware manufacturing without any background or experience in the area? They'd have to start from scratch, which is completely impractical. They have heavy involvement in the design of Nexus devices, but there's no reason they should do the actual manufacturing. Not even Apple does their own building.

No 4 by 3 crap. A 4:3 8 inch tablet would be too wide in portrait to your hands around comfortably.

this. 4:3 died with the crt television
I think you've misunderstood why the IPad mini sells so well. It's Apple. Pretty much everything they release these days sells like crazy

I'd buy it
2 years on and it looks like it is almost here, well a Nexus 9 at least. I'd rather an 8.1" with no bezel because of a specific use case, but the 9 looks like a nice option. Oh, and 16:10 - 4:3 is now long gone.

This. Zero interest in a sub-10 inch tablet. This is the sweet spot for me size wise.

[Q] PPI vs the actual resolution

Hi all, I am planning to buy Elephone P6i as a spare phone. I like the look and it is perfect size for me. I own few Chinese brand Android devices but I haven't bought an Elephone. Review of some Elephone devices looks good but again I haven't found any on this particular model. Please let me know if you found a good review about it.
My question is about the screen quality that I should expect from it. It is a 5" qHD (960 x 540) which is 220 PPI. I have a Nexus 7 2012 which has 216 PPI though it has higher resolution. Can I expect to see similar display on 5" qHD screen as in Nexus 7 2012?
I know it will depend on the hardware quality etc, but technically, should screen with similar PPI give the same display quality regardless the resolution? Thank you.

[Q] Screen Quality

Anyone else concerned about the quality of the screen , the dpi seems low for the screen resolution. Is it up there with the OLED screen on the latest Samsung tablet? Reviews i've seen are very vague
~Hawk
Im not concerned at all
How so? 4:3 ratio is also a bit odd for an android tablet
What i have watched and read the screen is very very nice, strong rich colours very sharp! Don't be fooled by the dpi. Remember its alsmost a nine inch display!
Do you have any links to the reviews?

It is the same resolution and type of screen (IPS LCD) as the ipad 3rd and 4th gen, and they are called "retina display". On top of that, the N9 has a smaller screen so an even greater ppi. Just go and read review of the ipad 3/4 and you will see how great the display was rated.
Backlight bleed and washed out colors on N7 (2012), N7 FHD, iPad Air was tolerable until I got a Tab S, now it's impossible to enjoy those IPS screens nearly as much.
Then there's the low DPI. Disappointing, probably still getting one to replace my aging Nexus 10.
Screen is going to be just great trust me! Remember this is a 9 inch display with 2.5k resolution 281/287dpi . review says bright, great colours, sharp and crisp.
So please don't worry!!!

I was never worried lol
coming from a Nexus 7 2012 that screen will look like a dream
Lol I sold my note 3 to fund my nexus 9, I am using my 6 years old daughter nexus 7 at the moment. She added a few features of her own to the screen, jam! Well that what it looks like, screen is thick with some sort of old residue? (Sneeze} oooo
So yeah what a massive upgrade lol
For tablet you don't need higher dpi. You dont use tablet like phone, not so close to face. So all is good

[Q] Should I buy the nexus 9 or the Nexus 10

Hello everyone,
I need a pro advice so this is the perfect forum to ask...
I just don't know which tablet to buy , The aging but still rocking Nexus 10 or the new and shiny Nexus 9.
My only turn-off about the Nexus 9 is the screen. I just don't like the 4:3 aspect ratio because my main use is media consumption and if it was a 16:10 like the Nexus 10 there was no question at all. Also , The screen is a bit smaller than the Nexus 10 which is another thing to consider.
What is your opinion?
Is the nexus 10 still a good buy , Is it gonna serve me well for the next 2 year or so?
Is the newer cpu on the Nexus 9 gonna be considerably faster for everyday use?
Is the nexus 10's screen much bigger than the 8.9 inch of the Nexus 9?
Is the Nexus 9's 64-bit cpu worth buying regardless of the things I mentioned?
It's either 9 or 10. I won't do less than a nexus!
Thanks In Advance...
I had a nexus 10 for a few days and the screen is gorgeous. Can't say anything about the nexus 9, but I find I prefer the 4:3 on a tablet. I'll be replacing my iPad 3rd gen with the nexus 9. The only thing that would concern me with the 10 is its age.
I can't imagine the nexus 10 being anywhere close to the performance of the nexus 9. A lot happens in two years. That being said, I don't have hands on experience with either, but I have preordered a nexus 9.
Nexus 9 performance will be a MASSIVE improvement over the Nexus 10. In both CPU and GPU. It is horribly outdated already because the SoC cannot do high CPU and high GPU at the same time, one side throttles badly which means very low gaming performance. In addition, that version of the Exynos processor consumes a huge amount of power, making battery life not that great. You can fix a lot of it's shortcomings with custom ROM and kernel, but in the end it is still nowhere close to the Nexus 9 in any way.
You need to future proof your self full stop! I would most definitely buy the nexus 9. This will last you well !
Thanks for all the replies...
But my main turn-off about the Nexus 9 is the screen itself.
I primarily use a tablet for movies , youtube and all that kinda stuff so I'm not sure if the 4:3 aspect ratio is going to satisfy me.
What's more is that the screen is 1.2 inch smaller than the Nexus 10 and I already got used to a 10.1 inch tablet (I own the Asus MeMo smart 10.1 with is garbage in performance...)
What's your thoughts about that?

You can get a refurbished Samsung galaxy tab s 10.5 inch really cheap! also comes with a years warranty! But just has performance issues sometimes laggy and GPU is not much kop, but all the main reasons you mention above, I personally think this would suit you better.
Well , after a deep thought I eventually pre-ordered the Nexus 9 (Tomorrow is launch day isn't it?)
I hope I won't be disappointed from the display's aspect ratio and size.
Other than that I'm sure that it's a beast of a tablet!!!

note 8, lg v30, iphone 8 which would you buy

Its that time of (every second) year when my contracts up for renewal so i'm full on obsessing about the new rumours around these phones. Im a big media consumer so the bigger the screen the better and currently rocking an s6 edge plus which i love apart from the hardware buttons.
The note 8 has just a 0.1 in larger screen that the s8 plus and i'm hoping for 4k screen and smaller bezels if possible
The V30 looks great and there's talk of round edged Amoled screens (about time) but will these be plastic and not gorilla glass?
Liking the full display look of the iphone 8 but i cant help wondering if it will have big ass bezels as all the screenshots and mockups look like that
fingers crossed there'll be quad dac in one of the above but ive lost hope on stereo front facing speakers
what are your thoughts?
