[HOW TO][VS985][UNBRICK] Hardbrick Guide Using Test Point - Verizon LG G3

So I recently bricked my G3 and it was a living hell to unbrick it from the lack of info but I gathered what I could and did it. My G3 is working great now so here's how I did it: (for the record I had no download mode, no recovery, and no system for flashing JasminROM after flashing a 35B bootstack...so don't do that.)
Required Materials:
Bricked G3
Screwdriver
Wire
USB Cable of good quality
PC
Solder (Optional)
Soldering Iron (Optional)
Things required on PC:
Secureboot disabled and test mode enable
Qualcomm USB Drivers (attached)
TOT File
Zip file containing willcracker's tools (attached)

Have drivers installed and tot file ready. Also make sure battery is removed and top cover is removed to expose motherboard.
Steps:
1. Plug in USB cable to PC
2. Connect one end of the wire to ground (or solder it to the ground point as it is much easier to simply hold one wire end)
3. Connect other wire end to the second point from the bottom (see pic)
4. Plug in the USB cable to phone (should hear windows tone for connection within seconds)
5. Release second wire end
6. Check device manager for device, should be Qualcomm 9008 (jot down port #)
7. Open the zip
8. Extract contents to desktop
9. Run Board Diag as admin
10. Select downloaded tot file under Image Extraction (BIN section)
11. Choose an output folder (any folder) we'll call this Folder O
12. Click Extract
13. Choose B2 from first drop menu
14. Choose the correct com port from second drop menu
15. Choose Folder O for Target Dir
16. Check AP CHECK and EMMC Test
17. Hit Start
18. Restore Device should now have drop menu, select aboot and hit start
19. Do the same for: BackupGPT, boot, dbi, laf, PrimaryGPT, recovery, rpm, tz and finally sbl1 (MAKE SURE THIS IS THE LAST ONE FLASHED)
20. Phone should get disconnected
21. Put battery in
22. Power On
23. Flash the complete KDZ using LGFlashTool for a completely clean install. Make sure software versions match.
Credits to @willcracker for files and guide, I just rewrote it and made it much more clear (test point was in the posts under thread and weren't well explained). If you have questions, feel free to ask.

Reserved.

I used This thread and it also worked for the vs985.

I'm about to do this for two different G3s. Will post back results. Both of them are hard bricked.

One G3 is unbricked and I am about to do the other. Thread is perfect. Thanks a lot OP!

THANK YOU, thought I my VS985 for good for spare parts only, but today it has been brought back to life, so Thank you

Hey i did this thing for all img... Including system userdata and cache... Now its still the same... When i switch it on it shows lg logo and goes to "Demigod Crash Handler"...... Help please........

I got through step 19, but now I get the LG logo with "Boot Failure" under it and it's stuck in a boot loop. Any idea what I did wrong?
ETA: I was able to get into the Firmware Update mode and use the LG Flash Tool. Thanks for this guide.

Question, after updating from OTA 47a mine started rebooting continually. After trying several options I did a factory reset which took several hours to actually get it done. I set it back up and when signing into a second Gmail account it rebooted again. Did another reset. I got into safe mode, deleted apps like google maps, Gmail, tv, books, etc. Then let It sit over night. It shut off. Now it would only load up to the LG screen or Verizon screen and then shut off. But it seems to get worse cause now I have to pull the battery and sometimes for several minutes. (phone worked perfectly before these updates and never rooted)
I tried to use LG Flash Tool but the phone won't stay in download mode long enough. Sometimes 20 seconds sometimes 5.
So my question is what are my options short of sending it to LG or using as a paper weight.

Sadly, I don't know what else to suggest. *If* you had been able to get it to stay in Download mode long enough, I would flash the 10B TOT. TOTs flash more things than KDZs, so sometimes flashing a TOT will solve a problem when flashing a KDZ doesn't (I've personally had that experience). Flashing KDZs after flashing the TOT is fine.
If there's some way to force it to go into QHSUSB_BULK 9008 mode (I haven't looked at the first post in a while, so maybe that's what they're referring to), then there's a third option, which you'd have to Google that term to find the recovery directions using different drivers and a different program. It would show up as QHSUSB_BULK 9008 in Windows' Device Manager - I believe in the Ports section, but possibly in the Modem section.
On the upside, I had the absolute best experience with LG for a repair, but that was my tablet under warranty - no idea if the experience differs if you're out of warranty.

I'm having this exact issue. Any luck fixing the issue?

After going back and forth with verizon I got down to 2 options. Send to LG and pay for repairs or take Verizon's offer of early upgrade on device payments. I got that offer thru chat. I told the girl if she wasn't tech support to let me know how to get one. She said she was so I told her to let me explain everything first. Then she said short of sending it to LG I did everything. So then she gave me that offer.
I'm not happy about it but had to do something.
I got the LG G5 and like it but hate it. This only seems to charge to 90% over night then stops charging. I have only got it to charge to 100% maybe 4 times total in the 11 days I have had it.

It just pops right with a flat head or a pry tool.

When I extract the tot with BoardDiag, everything goes swimmingly, but when I try to start eh AP check and EMMC test, it says "There is no partition file (rawprogram0.xml)."
Any clue as to how to fix it?

Can you verify if where BoardDiag extracted the partitions from the TOT that the "rawprogram0.xml" files actually does exist or doesn't? It creates some partition file (can't recall if that's the correct name) when it extracts the TOT. I assume that's the same name as the one it creates.

By saying that you had no download mode, did you mean that the screen was black when you attempted to go into download mode? Or did you mean that you tried using the LG Flash Tool with no success? I was in the same situation as you were (flashing Jasmine Rom on the 35b bootstrap and getting a black screen even when the device was powered on) and I didn't want to unscrew the phone to get into the motherboard. Luckily, I was able to unbrick using the "downgrade to 10b method" by @LASERWOLF452 which I will link. So I attempted to get into the download mode, but the screen was black. However, my phone was recognized as the "LGE Mobile For VZW" in the device manager. From here, I was able to follow the downgrade guide, and while the screen stayed black for the entire process, the display miraculously showed the LG logo at the "waiting for reset" part of the flash tool at around 85%. Then everything went as usual, with me only having to do the battery pull when the screen displayed "factory reset status 3". Upon turning the phone back on, it booted normally into the setup wizard. However, the flash tool took a very long time to finish up, taking 1277 seconds instead of the usual 150-180 second time.
Tl;dr: Tried putting your LG G3 into download mode only to get a screen that shows absolutely nothing? If your device is properly recognized by your device manager as "LGE Mobile For VZW", then your download mode should still be working and you can follow the steps for the downgrade method to get your phone back up and running.

LG Thrive/p506 Unbrick Guide

This is a last resort. Simply because it takes too much time and effort and because it might not work at all.
If you have tried to flash the Optimus/p500 kdz to your Thrive/p506 phone in hopes of factory resetting or getting out of emergency mode you will be stuck in a mode where the phone only boots to emergency mode immediately. (You don't get the LG boot screen.) This is because the kdz flash fails when attempting to write the optimus base band to your phone corrupting the base band. (or so I've figured out. If someone knows the real reason please correct me.)
To re-flash your base band you need: (I can't post links yet. I'll go post around in some thread now.)
- LGMDP mediafire.com/?3bi3247slaoitub
- Stock Files or P506 Stock Files with AmonRa Recovery (only AmonRa recovery mediafire.com/?0yyxt2vv7zw2pvy)
- LG United Drivers
- LG Mobile Support tool
- Virtual Box with Windows XP (Tested with my computer)
What?! Virtual box with Windows XP? This is the reason why this guide is a last resort. Unless anyone else knows how to cause LGMDP to timeout at "Version Checking" when selecting your com port you wont need this. LGMDP needs to time out at "Version Checking" so you can identify your phone as a p500 or p505 allowing you to flash the stock files to your phone. (I've heard/read that the p506 and p500 have the same board and even the same partition layout.) Using Virtual box lags the OS and the serial port causing LGMDP to time out.
~ WARNING!!! ~I am not responsible for any further bricking of your device/s and the time you have lost if this method doesn't work. This method is not 100% likely to work. I'm not entirely sure if this is a US base band either. If your network doesn't work after flashing then that's a downside. (Mine doesn't get signal or detect my sim card. Perhaps someone with a working Thrive base band could somehow dump theirs and share it with others)
- Get Virtual box running with Windows XP (No guide for this, look one up yourself) and make sure to install the VirtualBox Extension Pack.
- On your normal OS download LGMDP and the stock files to a USB drive. (or download them to the Virtual OS)
- Take the battery and charger out of your phone, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds and place the battery back into the phone. Next hold Back+VolUp+Power until Emergency mode appears. (I know that it automatically goes into Emergency mode, but it doesn't detect the phone when it auto boots to it.)
- Install the LG United Drivers and the LG Support tool to the Virtual OS.
- Connect your phone and flash drive to the Virtual OS.
Picture goes Here
- Browse to LGMDP and execute the program. Press "Select Port" and choose the only one available. Then press connect,
- If LGMDP does not time out at "Version Checking" and nothing happens for a while, close LGMDP and repeat the last step.
- If you do succeed select p500 or p505 as the model.
Picture goes Here
- ATTEMPT TO DO AN NV BACKUP. Without your nv you wont get signal. or so I've read
- Click Browse for "Image Folder" and browse for your p506 files folder.
- Once selected all of the parts should be checked. Un-check all EXCEPT the following:
- Partition Table
- QCSBL Header
- QCSBL
- OEMSBL Header
- OEMSBL
- AMSS Modem Image Header
- AMSS Modem Image
- RECOVERY Image
(If you would like to do a factory reset, feel free to leave them all checked.)
Picture goes Here
- Click "Start" and it will immediately start flashing your phone.
- ATTENTION! LGMDP will most likely freeze when flashing your phone. If it were to freeze simply do a battery pull (full shutdown) and repeat the process. (It takes time, but it won't corrupt your phone. Probably.)
- The phone should automatically reboot when it's done. Do a battery pull and boot into recovery Home+VolUp+Power (If you used AmonRa Recovery) and flash any rom.
Has anyone successfully tried this?
I too have corrupted the base band on my lg p506 and am waiting to attempt this unbricking guide.
This guide works great! Thanks for writing it up!
Thanks XDleader555, but didn't work on mine.
However I tried this few simple steps and it worked for me, so anyone with a similar problem may try this one.
REMEMBER!!!! this is also a last resort, Do this if you have no other option and I will not be responsible for further bricking of your device.
1. Download the flashing tool:
LG_KDZ_FW-Update_OfflineFix
2.Download the custom lg thrive kdz firmware
custom_lg_Thrive from 4shared (search exact key word "custom_lg_Thrive" )
3.connect the device via USB
4. open KDZ_FW_UPD.exe, set Phonemode to diag and type to 3GQCT
5. select the kdz file you downloaded
6. click the launch software update button
7. sit back and wait, it takes some time

I know this is a really old thread but I found my old thrive in a drawer. I tried to revive it many years ago but I didn't succeed so I have forgetten about it. Three days ago, I found it again and I tried to revive it again and after trying many other tutorials, this is the only one that has worked so far.

(GUIIDE) downgrade F320 S/L/K from ota 4.4 to shipped rom,

i successfully downgraded my F320s after i took kitkat ota here is how i did it.i used steps from this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2636869 which as follows
[EDIT]: Cleaned the guide up a bit
Install
1. Install the LG drivers downloaded above.
2. Install LGFlashTools v1.5 (but don't run it)
3. Extract the DLL and the TOT files from above and put them in a nice tidy directory
.TOT https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1kmABKJi1C6TUFaTUJldWxLN3M/edit?usp=sharing
.dll https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1kmABKJi1C6Z1ZFbnpLYXJ0NmM/edit?usp=sharing
Flash tool https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1kmABKJi1C6bEpMbHdIVG9XUlk/edit?usp=sharing
Drivers initialization
1. Put the phone into download mode. (Turn off device, keep pressing volume up while plugging in the micro usb cable.
2. Let the phone initialize and install the drivers. Once done, in Device manager, you should see the LG phone listed under COM ports (something along these lines).
3. Find that LG entry in Device Manager, click on Properties, Advanced and then change the COM port to COM41 and close/save.
4. Unplug your phone! Important step.
LGFlashTools
To get this tool to work, you'll need to do a few tricks.
1. Set the computer's date to some time in July 2012 or before.
2. Disconnect the internet
3. Find a serial number or register key for LG flash tool 1.5 (search the web)
4. Execute the LGFlashTools. It should ask you for a key, put it in. Now you should see a dialog where you can load the DLL file and the TOT files that you extracted earlier. Put them both in here. Click ok
Flashing
5. There is a yellow arrow on the top left. Click on it to initialize the process. Once done, it should say "ready/finished" or whatever.
6. Put the phone in download mode again, and plug it into the USB port. LG FLash Tools should start flashing it automatically. When it's done, it'll automatically reboot into your stock Shipped rom and all of your data and internal sdcard files are gone.
i will be uploading the tot file for f320s on my google drive for anyone who needs it, the rest you should be able to get easily on your own.
a big thank you to Seven Winds for the post and everyone who helped. ( please pm me so i can add your name to the Thanks list.)

Soft-Bricked GT540g vs frozen KDZ Updater

Okay guys, I think my phone has a soft brick (no boot logos), so I'm trying to do some restoration... but I'm not having much success.
So, I found a solution in XDA (/showthread.php?t=825173&page=3) saying that I should plug my phone in without battery, SD nor chip and disable the "LG Modem" on my Device Manager. Afterwards, start KDZ Updater and configure it to CS_EMERGENCY. Then I should install a 2.1 French firmware and as soon as KDZ finishes I'd plug off my phone, plug it back in and start it in DL mode again, this time flashing a file named "OUT.kdz", which gives back the boot logos.
Problem: KDZ Updater hangs as soon as I press "Start". It simply freezes when it's in CS_EMERGENCY. I have no solution to this whatsoever, and I also have another thread with previous problems I ran into (Soft-Bricked LG GT540 Optimus).
These are the best forums I've found for any kind of phone, so I'm positive I'll get the help I need, even if I might need to wait some time. Kudos to the admins and every member for taking part of such a great community!

I've fixed all my issues! I'll paste what I said in another thread. Yay for one-full-year struggles!
Just wanted to leave my 2 cents here, I've been trying to do my best since around august 2014, no success. 2 days ago I retried this, and I DID IT! I will tell everyone what I did very shortly:
My problem that I solved: I can boot, device works like a charm. But: no boot logos, no recovery.
My solution for TL;DR: UNINSTALL ALL DRIVERS FROM DEVICE MANAGER 1ST, then reinstall. After that, flash a fastboot ROM and use it to WIPE ALL THE DATA IN YOUR PHONE! THIS was what I needed and was never explained: you had to WIPE the old data in order to get the boot screens back.
IN THIS ORDER (THANK YOU to those people from previous replies, gathering all your info was of great value):
Uninstall all of your phone drivers from your PC!!! This is what made most of my headaches go away, just use Device Manager and uninstall anything from LGE. After that, plug in your device in your USB ports (always BACK ports, not front ports, important). It should detect all drivers and download them.
IF it fails (it generally does with LGE USB Modem), you can go to Device Manager > Unknown Device (the one that wasn't recognized) > Right Click and Update > Choose 2nd option, then choose "choose from a list of local controllers" (or whatever the button says). After that, scroll down to LG Electronics, Inc. and install what didn't install.
I also found these drivers, but I did not test them: http://www.mediafire.com/download/p693hcz6kkouh19/USB_Driver_LG_GT540.zip
Huzzah!
Now you're set to begin:
FIRST thing you wanna do is a factory reset, this is something I'd forgotten with time, don't make the same mistake as I did. You can do it by turning your phone on and pressing Volume +/- & Home & Quick Search buttons all together for 5 seconds (it works, be patient and wait for it, even if you open the camera or any other stuff).
Download this Google SDK Tools (unzip and put the folder in C:\ drive) and this Fastboot drivers for GT540 (unzip and put the files inside the folder in C:\android-sdk).
Skip this next line if you know your ROM has fastboot.
Now, if you don't have a ROM with fastboot, I recommend you use either European Open+Fastboot or V20C Orange France Fastboot ROM.
Click to collapse
Since you have Fastboot enabled, now all you need to do is turn off your device (all this with its battery on it, no weird things) and hold the Camera button before turning it back on. This should take you either to a black screen, or simply to no display, like me. Either one will work anyways.
Now press the Windows key > Type cmd and open it with Right Click > Run as Administrator.
In it, type all this, command by command (you can paste by right clicking):
cd C:\android-sdk
fastboot -w
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase system
fastboot -w
fastboot reboot
Click to collapse
And now it's go time! Do what everyone else says in here: Take out your phone's battery, SD and SIM cards, fire KDZ Updater up as Administrator (If your KDZ freezes, then it's either faulty or you did not install msxml, look for a good KDZ that comes with that file and delete your current one), choose CS_Emergency PhoneMode and:
1-Plug your phone while holding the volume DOWN button (don't worry! My phone didn't show "Download Mode" either, if you hear the Windows "Somethingpluggedin" Bump noise, it's ok).
2-Flash French V20A
3-Unplug your phone once KDZ says "==FINISHED==".
4-Plug it once again, holding the volume DOWN button.
5-Flash out.kdz (remember! it's CS_Emergency).

Enter IMEI no of your device.

Are u still facing the issue sorry for late reply i was busy with work
I don't think so those are two completely different variants

bricked lg k8 (lg-k350n) - is there a way to get to fastboot to flash anything?

I was trying to flash lg-k350n with LineageOs and make a whole bunch of idiotic deeds, so currently I'm felling like dying is the best option for me.
1. I've used this tutorial: .getdroidtips.com/install-custom-rom-using-twrp-recovery. It clearly says that this ROM is for Android 8.0 Oreo, while mine is Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Nevertheless I've downloaded ROM lineage-15.0-20170913-Unofficial-MT6735-64-bit.zip. For some reason TWRP mentioned here getdroidtips.com/lineage-os-15-lg-k8-8-0-oreo/ did not wok for me but I've googled a bit and found something called TWRP-recovery-for-LG-K8.img which worked (not by fastboot flash TWRP-recovery-for-LG-K8.img since this TWRP appeared to be to big but simply by fastboot boot TWRP-recovery-for-LG-K8.img).
So I just did:i
turn on debugger
turn off oem lock
adb boot bootloader
fastboot boot TWRP-recovery-for-LG-K8.img
Feeling happy that TWRP loaded nicely I had not done any backjup and just wiped system as suggested here: lineageos.org/devices/h990/install. Then I've tried to installl the Android 8..0. ROM with obviously did not work. And I've got left with a TWRP working and then I've put the last needle in my coffin - I've rebooted hoping that some hard reset or recovery will fix things for me.
So now I have a phone which I'm able to put to recovery, but it does not recover anything. The phone just go dead after such a recovery.
I cannot put it into fastboot mode, if I could, I would just run 'fastboot boot TWRP-recovery-for-LG-K8.img' and at least had a chance to google a bit for maybe a vanilla ROM or anything working, which I could've later installer.
I've seen that there is a way to put the phone into download mode when it will download stuff from S/W "LG Bridge", bu I don't have Windows and haven't yet tried in virtualbox.
Is there any way to unbrick the device? Please help an idiot!
Sorry, you have to find a Windows box I'm afraid, LG is only offering Windows software for flashing. But chances are quite good that you are able to revive the telephone that way. I have bricked my phone as well but was able to unbrick it this way:
Go to www.lg.com, choose your language, select download, software and firmware.
Select smartphone, Android smartphones, K-series and your model number. This is only to come to the download site of LG Bridge, I guess it's not really important to choose the precise model!
Download LG Bridge, install and start it.
Let it update itself and the USB drivers and keep the software running.
Switch off the phone, press Volume up and keep holding that button.
Connect the phone with via USB with the PC while still pressing Volume Up. The phone should be recognized by the PC (install USB driver) and by LG Bridge (watch the status line to the left, it should show the phone type and USB)
The phone should automatically switch on and show a download screen (yippee!)
Select the second tab "software update" and then click on "correct update error" in the lower right. It should automatically download the correct firmware from the internet, so this is rather fool proof!
Click through it and this should start the flashing process, at the end the phone will automatically reboot, ask for the PIN, etc.
Unbricked!!!
Above instruction worked for me on a completely demolished phone. Lineage OS, changed FS, root attempted, I almost though that's it, but no, it recovered, thumbs up.
I haven't tried in Virtual Box, so I cannot tell if this is working. But you've got nothing to loose, right, so why not try it?

your phone cannot be trusted loooooop, cannot goto download and fastboot mode...
If you don't manage to enter download mode you have probably indeed bricked the phone. If what I've written above doesn't work for you I know of no other way to resurrect it, sorry.
This is because you cannot burn TWRP to the Flash plus there's no tool available to bootstrap an LG phone with a completely naked or corrupted Flash. There must be something like that, because a freshly manufactured phone has by definition a naked Flash.
With Samsung phones you have Odin and with it it is possible to burn a software to a completely dead phone. So it is almost impossible to hard brick it. With LG unfortunately it is different. Plus this phone is somehow crippled, it has only a very, very limited amount of Flash. So I would recommend to not care for this phone anymore, it's not worth it, and instead get a current one with a decent amount of memory.
