Cracked rear camera cover glass visor thingie? Source for a replacement one found! - Nexus 6P General

I broke mine. It was my fault, I'm not blaming it on spontaneous shattering. Whether that actually happens or not, I don't know, but I dropped my phone and it broke. Not severely, just one crack.... Right across the camera lens, so any pictures taken around bright lights/the sun have lovely spots in them due to light catching on the crack.
As it was clearly my fault (some very minor damage to the back as well), I'd have to pay the full price for repairing, which is prohibitively expensive. Local cell repair shops were unable to find the part for me, so I set out on a journey to find a replacement.
I finally found on, on Aliexpress, here: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/100-...using-with-3M-Sticker-Camera/32579389618.html
Now, of course, this may or may not be a "official" part, who knows. I'll update the post when I receive it, but I felt I'd share the link in case anyone - like me - had a damaged glass cover and couldn't take photos, and had no other good repair options.

I'm interested to see how well this replacement part works out, please update when you can.

color me skeptical of this listing... does not make clear if it includes the camera visor, or if it JUST the back door cover.
also, "Easy to install,no need tools or instruction" ? haha.. the 6p aint easy to unassemble, at all.

Nice! I wonder if the glass and bottom comes already attached? From the repair videos I've saw, you have to remove those parts to get to the screws.
I'm pretty excited to see these show up though. I know the 6p is difficult to work on but the housing doesn't look too bad. It's good to have options especially when the back casing has a tendency to bend and crinkle. ?

I had to re seal my glass bar on the back of my nexus 6p and all I used was a hairdryer and a pick of some kind then stuck it back down and its been great since so it shouldn't be hard to replace a broken bar...
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA Free mobile app

dude, the hardest thing is obtaining the part... and ALI obviously has it... for $6.99 thats a no brainer.
mines not cracked and even i am considering picking one up as spare...
some heat, a razor, and 10 mins of ur time...
cool beans!, thanks for link

Please check back in to let us know how this goes.

Nice find hope I don't need it tho!

my 2c - I dont think is an OEM part - as the description on Aliexpress says " 1 x for nexus 6p...", the "for" is the bit that makes me assume this is a third party part.
Now, it may be of comparable quality, I am not discrediting the product, but just calling it out. OP, please keep us all in the loop. Hope for you that its a high quality part.

It seems AlliExpress is out of them or something. Once I try to purchase one using this link it says page not found. If I don't use this link I cannot even find the item.

would love to see a write up of this if/when you change your glass or back cover.

I've just ordered one of these from Ali Express. If it seems like nothing happens when you click Buy Now or Add to Cart, make sure you've selected a color (even though there is only one color). $16.99 with free shipping, but will take between 15 and 40 days to get here.
I have to say, Huawei customer service is awful. I started the process of checking to see if I can get it repaired (under warranty or otherwise) last Sunday. I sent an e-mail to the address they gave me and included 7 pictures of the phone and proof of purchase, as instructed. When I called today (Friday) I was told I'd have to start the process over, so I sent another e-mail with 7 pictures of the phone. The approval process is supposed to take up to 72 hours. And if it isn't approved, I'm on my own. They don't do paid repairs. Fortunately, my phone still works. But what if it didn't? I'd be without a phone while waiting for these guys to tell me if they'll fix it or not. This puts a real damper on my attitude toward this phone, and toward Google. This is supposed to be a premium, flagship phone. Shame on Google, and shame on Huawei.
Rich

It'll be great to hear the outcome of this, like many others I'm sure sooner or later your going to break it, damage it with grinder/Welding sparks.

Bro, what's the update?!

I'm not the OP, but I had my glass break as well. I didn't drop it, I honestly have no idea how it happened. I tried getting fixed under warranty... Pfft, waste of time. Huawei warranty in Canada Sucks. Anyway, I ordered from Global Direct Parts. As far as I can tell it is the original OEM part. Install was a breeze since it was cracked and easy to take out after heating it up.

Good as new. Hope this helps someone.

Good to know that there is a replacement part available I might open my Nexus 6P soon to try something out I don´t like the stock cooling of the SoC to be honest and I´ve already improved my old Nexus 7 ( 2013 ) and Nexus 5 (2013) cooling.
I´m just scared that I might shatter the visor glass since this one looks really tough to remove..

thanks for the link.. might be useful in future

Think you can go through the steps of removing the broken lens (tools used, etc) and installing the new lens? Would be much appreciated as I'm waiting for my new lens to arrive and not really sure of how to go about the replacement. Thanks!

[Q] Display defect or...not?

Hi guys,
New thing, i notice this on both i9100 phones (the one i sended back and the new one from today). There are like to almost same dimension parallel stains/distortions(?) on the bottom half of the screen and you can notice them only if is dark/semi-dark in the room and your phone is in front of a monitor/hdtv with a withe screen, in other conditions they can't be notice and from what i can tell they don't alter the image in any way. I will post a image from the first phone (the second one is almost the same) if you guys notice them or not, or you have a theory, please post.
Thanks.
Looks to me like a small manufacturing mark or defect in the polarising filter on the screen. I wouldn't be concerned with this, i doubt you'll ever get an LCD that doesn't have something like this.
the reason it is only showing up in front of a TV or screen is because the light coming off it is polarised. normally this shouldn't be visible, so the manufacturers aren't concerned
Somebody please correct me if i am wrong
No, i'm not concerned. I think is probably from the machine that holds the glass during production or assembly (because there are two i9100 with the same shape of the stains). I just wandered if other owners of i9100 notice the same thing with their phones, but from what i see nobody bothers...oh well, thanks anyway.
Well my phone doesn't have that. And phones I've had before haven't had that. If it doesn't bother you then that's fine...personally I'd be and would get a replacement.
These phones should be *perfect*

Ok sir, i will play this game, lets talk facts:
- This is my second phone after returning the first phone with the same problem and some package issue.
- The two phones come from the same online retailer but diffident distributors, this means is bigger than a batch problem.
- The problem is almost identical (two stains same shape), but visible only in one condition (mentioned above) and only from a very wide angle (btw if you tilt the phone in that light and angle the stains change color from darker to lighter).
- It doesn't affect in any way, shape or form the generated image, it can only be seen with the lcd off and in a fluorescent light.
- If you return for the second time the device, you have to wait for betwin 2-10 days (again) for the service department to come with a resolve and you risk to get a money back resolve, witch mean from 4-14 days to transfer your money in your bank account and after you start from the beginning with another retailer (all retailers have the same distributors).
With all above taken into account, honestly, what would you do?
*Hellover, let's play a game*

I think you're very unlucky to get a replacement with the same problem. Like I said, mine has an absolutely perfect screen, and given the fact this is an expensive flagship handset, everybody should have a perfect screen. Even on cheap phones I've never seen the poor screen QC that I've seen on the GS2, it's a shame. But NEVER accept anything less than flawless. Imagine the blob gets bigger and distorts the image somehow? You will be angry!
Personally, it would be hassle waiting for a replacement or a refund etc, but I'd much rather have my money back or a flawless phone, than hold on to a clearly flawed one. It's bothered you enough to post up on XDA about it. Seriously man, just return it. Maybe get a cheap phone and wait til the Nexus Prime comes out...

GOD Damm it...man! Now i have to w8 for the "money back guarantee!!!"... i send it back because of YOU!....no man, thanks, you are right, i will settle for one with flawless everything. I attached a picture with the old one and the ex new one side by side.
I will change the retailer. lets hope third is a charm...
Later.
Well, third device, second retailer, same defect. I'm done, i didn't try the withe version but then again i don't like withe, so i will keep this one.
That sucks man. You could upgrade to galaxy nexus soon though!

Help my LCD cracked!

I'm in school right now and go to pull out my phone from my pocket and my screen wouldn't turn on. I come to see little hairline cracks on my screen but not on my glass which is odd. Now my phone turns on but the screen itself is just dead. I am rooted and running a rom so what should I do? Please help me!

OK, If you're not insured then you need to look at this video by Erica Griffin. Yes, this is for the GS3 but it really shouldn't be any different for the GS4. Her Vid on YouTube shows you how to replace the screen with digitizer and using all of the other parts from your current phone. It's actually a good video to see just so you know how easy this stuff is to do. The screen w/digitizer seems to run around $200 which is way better then $500-600 to buy a new phone outright. Just remember, I'm just giving you a cheaper option to fix it if you don't have insurance.

They claim that as long as they can't prove that the cracks were from impact there shouldn't be a problem. I'm afraid they might screw me over. But i mean the glass is completely fine and my sides have small nicks from previous small drops. im gonna try to unroot and wipe tomorrpw after school
My screen blacked out a week ago but been too busy to deal with it. Display comes through MHL onto my TV display so wonder do I need all parts mentioned? There's no crack in my display, but to my surprise the "moisture detector" sticker is tainted red (the big visible one, as I understand there are multiple stickers -- can someone confirm this to be correct?).
I may just take a risk and request replacement over the phone. Once or more in the past, I've had a warranty period issue replaced with the warning "...if its determined to be your fault, we will charge you the full retail price" and I've sent them bootloader unlocked, watermarked phones and they let it slide. There truly was no submersion or even open case exposure to water, I'm not sure how sensitive this particular sensor is to humidity or moisture through an enclosed back.
Anybody else surprised to see their "watermark" turn red when they feel it should not have been? From past experience having phones replaced via phone support, I'd wager they take my rooted, broken-display phone and never charge me for it.........................I been with VZW a decade and a half and then Bell Atlantic Mobile and planned in about 220-250 consistently for nearly a decade.........I'm not saying VZW is prone to show courtesy for longevity, but this could be 3-4 such instances in the smartphone era of questionable watermarks of rooted and flashed-to-hell Blackberries including blatant cracks...............

[Q] Crack underneath screen and oil from phone

So, I received my HTC One M9 and activated it April 1st. There seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary. However, I just noticed that there seems to be a small crack under the screen. This is a crack that is not on top of the screen but underneath the main screen. You only see it when the phone has a dark screen and when the right angle of light hits it.
Now, I haven't dropped, banged, stomped, hit, bumped, squeezed, etc. my phone. I have used it just the exact same as I used any other HTC phone I have had (EVO 3D, EVO, EVO LTE, and M7). None of them have had this issue. I was reading some other forums and they think it could have something to do with overheating of the phone causing the internals to flex and crack the digital display or they thought it could be from pressure.
My questions are these. First, does anyone else have this problem? The crack is almost not noticeable unless under the certain light conditions. That is why I think it might have been there the whole time and I just didn't notice it. Second, do you think that is why HTC came out with the Uh-Oh program? They realized that there was some issue where the phones could crack internally from normal use and didn't know how to fix it? So, in a brilliant marketing/damage control, they unveiled the Uh-Oh program in an attempt to right what they found to be wrong?
Also, the two other forums which seem to apply are the following. The first is the one with the S4 users who noticed a crack under the screen. The second is the more interesting one and as I type this I think this is what happened to my phone. I noticed an oily substance that was in the middle of my clear case. I thought I spilled something on it and just didn't notice to clean it up. Now I realize that probably came from inside the phone. I have no idea what happened but I know it was from nothing I did. Just curious if anyone else experienced this. I'll submit photos once I can take a picture at a good angle.

Here are some photos of the crack. Again, this is under the screen. The third image is a copy of the second but with the crack outlined since it is hard to see. Does anyone else have this?
I doubt they created the replacement program for this. I doubt heat would make a crack like that (not on the edge).
It may be just a scratch or contamination underneath and not a crack.
I'd be curious what it looks like with a screen protector on it (glass or plastic).
If the phone is working good, and it's not a "growing crack", and you can only see it when off, I'd tend to leave it and save your replacement claim for a more serious injury.
I don't see anything like that on mine.

I agree i doubt ut oh was created for this reason. They had a very similar program with the m8 that was for 6 months im sure they just made the program even better to try to compete since phones are just starting to plateau.

Just curious, what would seeing it with a screen protector do? I am going to probably wait to send it in but either way, I don't think it is my fault. It's great they will replace it under their Uh-Oh program but it makes me feel like I am paying $100 for their mistake. If this wasn't there, I could get $100 toward my next phone.

You're talking about the $100 that wasn't there to begin with? I don't remember HTC giving me a $100 check when I bought the phone. You're not paying for anything because nothing is coming out of your own pocket. At least they give you a replacement without having to sign up for some TEP or whatever Sprint offers these days.

That is the $100 I am talking about. I guess I am worrying about the future. I will be out $100 if I buy another HTC phone. Since it doesn't seem like that big of a deal to you, I will gladly accept $100 from you if I buy another HTC phone and need to send this one in under the Uh-Oh program. If I can't count on your donation, I will be out the $100 in the future due to an issue that is not my fault. That is simply my point.

Again, it's $100 that neither of us actually have from HTC. My point was that even if you didn't claim it under the uh oh program, there's no guarantee you won't need to use it the entire year. Anything can happen. Why worry about the future now?
Have you tried contacting HTC to see if it's a manufacturer's defect? I'm fairly certain defects would be covered under their warranty and you won't have to claim it under the uh oh program.

If things happening now affect my future, then I worry about it and figure out what to do.
I actually did contact HTC and they are willing to take it back to verify if it was a manufacturer defect or not. They have a program where they ship you a replacement phone and then you ship them back your broken phone with a prepaid label. However, under that program you are automatically required to file it under the Uh-Oh program and there is no going back. They gave me the option just to send it to them and a level 2 tech was going to track it and give me the option to get the phone back if it was going to be an Uh-Oh claim. I was told they would send a shipping label but haven't received an email back with the label. I plan to call them again to confirm I will get a shipping label but haven't had the time yet.
Thanks for your thoughts. Not sure how this will play out but I will be reaching out to you if I buy a new HTC phone when it comes out. (Hopefully my sarcasm comes out in my posts).

Cha-Ching!!!!!
I think the Uh-Oh Protection is very clever. Let's say, in a year, you've never had an issue that the heavy duty aluminum and thick glass can't handle. Now the HTC One M10, (or MX, as I think it's going to be called because of marketing) just hit the market at the same time as the Galaxy S7, the LG G5, and the Xperia Z-WhoGivesADamn and you're trying to decide which you want.
But wait! $100 off? Well gee. That's hard to pass up!
Alternately, fine print time...
HTC drops the "One" line. You go to a store to use your $100.... And they point out that the exact text is "If you don't need a replacement, we'll give you $100 toward the purchase of your next HTC ONE" .... But there is no more HTC One. Unless you want another m9.

Very quick review of the Nokia 7.1

Hello all,
I just received my 7.1 and thought I'd just give everyone some quick impressions. The "Blue" color is almost black it's so dark. Not a deal breaker for me but it's darker than I expected.
It feels good. Solid. The screen is pretty good as well and bright enough to be usable in direct sunlight. Not Samsung bright but good.
It seems pretty snappy overall but I'm used to using an S8+ and an Essential PH-1 (the PH-1 has battery issues that Essential won't fix so the 7.1 is it's replacement) which are both very quick phones. It's not slow by any means I'm just used to super fast.
I've spent most of the afternoon getting it setup and installing apps and only used about 40% of the battery but got three hours of SOT so that seems somewhat promising.
Played with the camera just a bit. The pic I posted is straight out of the camera.
It came on the September security patch and no updates are available as of yet.
It's bare bones Android as expected but there are a couple of settings that I can't find one being how to enable the battery percentage in the status bar. I've enabled System UI Tuner and it's not in there or in any of the Battery settings that I can find.
And I can confirm that it is a dual sim device and I can enable WiFi calling but it remains to be seen if it will work because I am on AT&T prepaid and pretty sure I don't have it.
It comes with some earbuds a charger and cable in the box.
I really want to put it in a case. I hope some become available soon.
Anyway if anyone has a question I will answer what I can.
I seen a few camera samples before yours, and the pictures look good until you zoom in a little and see that all the detail is gone. Do you think it’s just Nokia’s camera app? I’d like to see how google camera does on this phone.
I don't know what to say about that except the sample on my pc looks much better than the sample here. I can't explain it, but it's plain to see. I would try a gcam version if I can figure out which one seems the most compatible. I can install ProShot and see if that gets better results.
I haven't spent much time with the camera app but I thought it was fine as far as usability goes but then again I'm not all that demanding. I'm more of a point and shoot user.
It's not as good as my S8+ but I really wouldn't expect it to be either for less than half the cost.
If the weather clears up here maybe I'll take the S8 and the 7.1 out and do a comparison.

Could you upload the same somewhere else that lets you do it lossless?
I'm returning the phone to Amazon. The case situation is ridiculous. Nokia support referred me to a Nokia case that Amazon says "one to three months" wait. When I asked the support rep why Nokia didn't have anything ready at the launch they just referred me back to the Nokia case. The phone is slippery and I've already almost dropped it more than once. I'm returning it before I damage it.
Edit: Bought a Pixel 2 instead which is what I should have done in the first place.
Mmm was thinking of replacing my PH-1 with this. I don't have battery issues but my touch screen is like super fu**ed with ghost touch, flickering, and bad service in my area (switching to att in few weeks). Amazon is willing to give me a full refund but was not sure if I should take it or RMA with Essential for screen.
You just returning the Nokia cause no case options ? Everything else seems to work straight? Obviously anything camera wise can beat the essential so that's why I was looking into 7.1 lol.

Yes I returned it because I'm not comfortable carrying a slippery bar of soap around until someone decides to release a case. The phone itself was fine for what it cost. I almost dropped it a couple of times and if I drop it without a case it's on me. Nokia screwed the pooch here because it's a decent device let down by absolutely no third party support. Nokia can't even deliver their own cases! Those are showing as one to three months to deliver. All the Chinese cases have very vague shipping dates from the middle of November to the Middle of December.
I realize not everyone will feel this way but I decided I would be better off returning it now. I really wanted a Pixel 2 anyway so that's what I did.
The camera was decent and I managed to get a Gcam mod working on it (GCam-5.1.018-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V8.3b1) but never really got the time to test it out quality-wise.
If you can live with little to no options for a case it's worth the money as far as I'm concerned.
Thanks for the insight man!
I may just order one once I send this PH-1 back then. Ill just get a universal slip in phone case or flipcase from 5below until I'm able to get a case for it then. That or steal otn of my kids Power Ranger socks from the dryer and carry it around like that till end of November.

I am not going to defend Samsung etc, however if your unit is broken, got defects, or you are not happy with something - just send it back, ask for replacement or just return it then buy new one.
It's not just his... looks like a lamination issue.
Not something you should see on a flagship display.
Rather than owe up to it Samsung is making excuses saying it's normal. Translation: there must be a lot of them with this defect...

First: If you were read article you will knew that Samsung said it is manufacturing side effect so maybe it is not so obvious to return the unit. The defect is in the same place on all reported phones... Could be hard to get one without it as guy in twitter try 2 times and both have the same issue.
Second: If you were look inside the twitter comments you will see that it is not only uk but also in usa and other regions that are affected.
Third: 23u is my primary phone, so not so easy to just return it and stay without the phone as i also use esim. And more over i can get another unit with the same defect or even they will not accept it as they mention as it is side effect of manufacturing.
Right now it is not disturbing the use of the phone, but as i know it is there it is quite not comfy...
It's really irritating that people look for this nonsense that doesn't affect the functioning of the phone one iota and then share it around and ruin everyone else's enjoyment of their devices.
I can confirm that my US Ultra has this. Never would have seen it if it wasn't pointed out.

First - I read it, if you are not happy with the product, don't use it, simple. You still have 14 days to send it back if you are not happy, vote with your wallet.
Second - And? Not sure how big % of phones got that issue, but same as above applies, if people are not happy they should send units back. Maybe then samsung would acknowledge issue.
Third - No one force you to stay without phone, if you sold etc. your previous one or sent it back for trade in, then make a complain to Samsung.
And fourth, if you read my post with understanding you would get that I do not defend them. Sending back bad/wrong/broken etc product is our right, Samsung and S23 is not the only phone on the market, if you have issues with them, than feel free to buy something else.
I was angry with oneplus few years ago and guess what, I am on samsung now.

If that's what they say and your unit have it, vote with you wallet and send it back, there will be no change when people moan on this forum and Samsung keep their sales.

This is nothing but people hunting for reasons to dislike the phone. It has zero effect on functionality and you have to really be looking to even see it. It's a nothingburger discovery some iPhone fanboy found and put on Twitter to cause drama.

The problem is it's not supposed to be there at all. Not on my N10+'s. On a display that's not acceptable. It's a manufacturing defect and right where it's always in your face.
Worse, pretty sure Samsung was aware of this defect but they shipped them anyway. Like a brat they do what they want then make lame bs excuses for their actions. This isn't a injection molding tab Sammy, it's a screw up.
At this point there's no telling if over time it will get worse and/or spread. I'd return it for a cash refund especially at this price point, where the defect is and Samsung's condescending attitude.
but this is only visible with a strong light source, with certain angle of light with screen off. it has no impact on usability. i have seen it in the past on other curved displays

I upgraded to s23u with EE and i got it on 13th , 512gb ,green. Everything fine, until 3 days later when i installed a Samsung screen protector on,using a flashlight i was eyeballing for dust particles using a sticker. Right bottom corner i noticed a smudge, wiped off, still there, anyway upon close look ,in certain angle using the flashlight, i noticed this crease/bubble/dent around 4mm in width and 2mm height . To me it looks like a dent inwards rather than a bubble. Checked my pixel 7pro,nothing, checked my missus s21plus(flat screen),nothing, then i remembered i have stashed a galaxy s8(still works a take faster photos than s23u though) anything like this, screen was perfect.
Don't get me wrong, only in bright light ,shining directly on the screen you can see it. The touch screen works perfectly.
I contacted EE, the tech support said it looks like delamination or sort and could spread in time, right ,i said i do like the phone and i would like an exchange. EE delivered next day the replacement, as you guessed, same issue, this time half in size, almost not visible, but because i knew where and how to look ,i spotted it right away. Also very fine crease on the right, but almost not visible(unless you know what to look for).
Can i live with this ,yes i can,do i want to take a risk, thinking that potentially, ot could spread over thetime, hmm ,i don't. Opened a second return.
For ppl who said that this is not a big deal, remember, th ise damn phone is expensive and it should be perfect, like my previous s22ultra amd my 5 years old S8
I attached some photos 1,the first phone and 2
glad i am not that inquisitive otherwise i would still use nokia 3110
My S23 Ultra has it. Then I just realized after a year of using my S22 Ultra that this is the case as well... Guess it doesn't really matter.

I'm still having trouble seeing it in these pictures, even when it's directly pointed out, lol. I'm not gonna examine my phone. It looks generally fine and I'm gonna stick with it.

I think the issue is that most people wouldn't even notice if someone didn't point it out to them in special lighting. I think you should be able to discuss and point out anything you deem flawed. But on the other end you should also expect pushback from people who think you are just being spoiled when you have the option to return it. I have noticed it on my Galaxy S23 Ultra US version but only by looking at it in lighting. I think the device is fantastic and even with that little flaw I will keep my device since I can't really notice it since I have a case on it.

It's probably present on certain batches; some will have it, others not. A major QC screw up. If the defect was minor you wouldn't be able to see it at all.
This is a defect that could effect the survivability of the glass. Glass is subject to some of the laws of hydrodynamics. This deformity causes new stress points. It may not crack there but in another area of the display, hydrodynamics. Glass is a peculiar substance with bizarre properties. Of course if it breaks Samsung will say it's your fault for dropping it.
DON'T SAY YOU WEREN'T WARNED
