Anyone jump from G4 to this? - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just curious if this is a worthy upgrade at this point. Thanks.

I did. It was worth it for me, but I desire the larger screen and fingerprint scanner.
Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk

Yeah I also came from the G4. It's definitely a bit larger, but I am in love with the more premium materials (steel and rubber back - and I had the leather back on my G4), the flat back vs curved on the g4, second screen, fingerprint scanner. Definitely was worth it for me. Oh also the dual front facing cameras are surprisingly useful.

Yep, when I moved from Sprint to T-Mobile in December I also switched from the G4 to the V10. No way I could go back either. FPS, larger display, solid build, the weight, added camera software make it a worthy upgrade.

Same here for all the same reasons. Premium device vs G4. Very impressed thus far and seems much faster. Also has no touch screen issues

Thanks, guys. Is the second screen a part of the 5.7" specs they claim? Was it awkward at first?

No, 5.7 is the main screen... And no, it's not really awkward at all, I really love looking at it and knowing what my notifications are, instead of a blinking light. Also love the phone controls show up there if you are using the phone for something else, instead of blocking out the screen.

Went from 2 dead LG G4s to the V10
I went from 2 dead LG G4's with nothing but problems to the V10. Best cell phone I have ever had.
Lots of memory, lots of flash, great display, nice camera.
The two front cameras are cute.
The only drawback is you can't move the status line to the 2nd display when the phone is on. I can't believe LG missed that one.
Now if only LG didn't want $100 for the official wireless charging back.
Prior to the G4 I had the Galaxy S3, S4 and S5.

Every single switch I've made, starting with N4 has been an upgrade. Same goes for G4 to V10. G4 felt like a toy after holding the 10 lol I despise the speaker but the larger screen makes up for that. Overall satisfied. I got a good deal on it as well, so wouldn't have made the jump if I had to shell out the full price.

Thinking about purchasing a g3

I'm currently using the HTC m8 and I'm tired of it. I haven't had a g3 in years. How does everyone like theirs? I was going to pre-order but the screen heat issue scared me off since I work outdoors. Please list your pros and cons. Thanks

I came from a SGS3 and I'm satisfied with the G3, overall. I hate the sharpening that occurs on text which is scaled down and I hate the stock pastel UI colors. I find the screen resolution does little to actually enhance the user experience. Lastly, I hate that the audio amp doesn't play nicely with low impedance speakers (you'll hear static in the left audio channel unless there's a ~ 64 ohm or higher load or the speakers are below 64 ohms and not very sensitive). The flipside is that audio output is excellent when using quality headphones or audio gear (not Beats trash, I'm talking about real audiophile-grade stuff).
Everything else about the phone is great, especially if you have large hands!
The display looks pretty good in the store, but I do have a tab s that I use for YouTube or anything media. I compared the phone size to my m8 and they are the same size. Does it have a car mode? I drive 2hrs a day to work and hate the car mode on this m8

I hate the screen on my m8. I can't see it at all with my polarized shades on. Drives me nuts. The power button and volume button placement drives me crazy too. Only had the phone for a month good thing I got it with the edge plan. Any lag with the g3? I looked at the s5 too but kinda worried about the touch wiz lag factor lol

You are going to have a hard time with any screen and polarized sunglasses. The lag is very subjective. I do not notice lag except for a bit right after boot up. Also if you are like me and like sense you use G3 Tweaksbox along with enabling the hidden menu to allow themes for the launcher to get the look of sense.

My note 3 screen was dim with shades on but the htc is completely black. Has anyone had the heat issues?
I came to my G3 from a Droid 3 so it was quite an upgrade and I couldn't be happier. I pretty much did everything hacking related that could be done to my Droid 3 and finally just got tired of how slow it was. It would take 1 full minute just to load facebook. The G3 is pretty amazing. All we need now is an unlocked bootloader. <crossing fingers>
We needed the unlocked boot loader with the Droid3 too. Motorola promised us, like LG has, but never unlocked it.
I still have a few of those Droid3s around somewhere. I used to use them when traveling in Europe since they did well there on cheap local sims once unlocked for international use by Verizon. When Hashcode developed SafeStrap, things got pretty nice though, as long as you didn't need the camera. I think I stopped at Jellybean.
The Verizon G3, like all recent Verizon LTE phones, works on about any GSM carrier by just inserting an active SIM chip and setting up the APN and mode.
I am on T-Mobile 4gLTE right now on mine. Gets amazing download data speeds.
I agree with you about the Droid 3 and safestrap. Safestrap made it so easy to backup and restore my ROM but the camera bug was very frustrating. I finally ended up just using Minimoto which was a stripped down stock ROM with the holo launcher. It worked well, had all of the garbage bloatware removed, and the camera still worked.

Had the M8 for a couple of months back when it first came out. Great phone but I don't miss it one bit. I usually root my phone's within a couple of days but not with this one. Perfectly happy the way it is. I haven't noticed any lag on my G3 and battery life is improving compared to when I first got it. Definite plus is the replaceable battery.

No car mode
Pros: great standby on battery, speaker is decent for a rear facing one, design feels good in hand, camera is great, cell signal reception is great
Cons: screen is next to impossible to see outdoors in sunlight unless you really crank the brightness, little but noticeable lag/stutter especially in app drawer nothing major, screen on time is OK but definitely not best, and for some reason this phone is super picky about charger and cable combo (have used the same high quality chargers for all my phones mostly but the g3 slow charges or sometimes simply goes into not charging mode, works fine with stock cable though)

The same here!
How much do you value root (and possible bootloader unlock)? Or else you might want to wait for Moto X+1 and/or Note 4.
Personally I am overall satisfied with my purchase but its not without its flaws (like any other phone).
It's a nice phone, but I am not sure I would say it's much better than an m8. These phones are so comparable anymore, it's hard to justify the monies for them IMO. I used to switch constantly, had jump with tmobile and every 6 months switched out. Now, on contract with Verizon and keeping this for a good while.
I do have the heating issue, only when taking a bunch of pictures and or videos. Automatically dims my screen to cool it off. It was ridiculously hot!
Besides that it's a nice phone.

I had the heating issue once when I was recording a video in UHD (which is limited to 5 minutes because of extreme heating). Other than that the phone will get warm but nothing out of the ordinary.

Good Choice?

I just got this phone yesterday. Coming from a Note 4. Not sure how much good the secondary screen will provide. Is this a good phone? Is there developer interest? Would I be happier with a different phone from verizon? The main reason I got this phone was because it has a removable back and replaceable battery in addition to an SD Card slot.
I got it because my Z3v broke and I needed a replacement. I was considering the G4 but I liked the fingerprint scanner so I went with this on black Friday. It's a good phone for the $170~ with all the deals I got but if I had to pay more I might not have gone for it honestly. I love the replaceable batteries I got and the 200gb SD card. The camera is great on it, and the wide screen front camera looks great in photos.
Secondary screen is pretty useless for me, I leave it off or on the signature screen. Also as for development I don't think we'll see much cause Verizon. I'll probably keep it for awhile but honestly might upgrade to one of next year's nexus devices if they look good.
So far I love it. My Note 4 was turned into a square white turd by the latest update from Verizon. It was absolute crap, overheat, battery life sucked and it would just go black...Verizon said that it was impossible to downgrade back to 4.4.4 where my phone was great. This phone is Smooooth as butter. The second screen is kinda gimicky but it does come in handy, much better than that "edge" crap from Samsung. As far as root??? Dont get your hopes up, the note 4 never got it and probably will only when it is obsolete. Just enjoy the buttery smoothness that is the V10. I know I will.
The V10 is great. I considered a Samsung but they got rid of expandable storage and removable battery. Otherwise, I might have ended up with a Note 5. This is my third LG device. I have the G2 and G3 prior to this. Not crazy about the second screen and I think there's no need for 2 front facing cameras. All in all I love it.

Main gripe is lack of root / dev support. My G4 was rooted rather quickly and I never realized just how much Viper4Android did for my music. Sure there's a DAC and AMP, but Viper had a LEGIT equalizer, compression, and the main selling point: Convolution. I realize I'm in the minority here. But actually, 3 of the new features that the G4 didn't have I find don't use. I've literally disabled the 2nd screen entirely since the lack of customization proved it to be useless / distracting to me. Plus that light bleed when the screen was off was annoying. Completely didn't realize there wasn't any LED notification light until it was too late. Wide angle front facing lens is nice, but I'm not much of a selfie person and would have LOVED to have a wide angle rear facing lens more. Front facing camera quality also seems sub-par compared to G4. Battery dies faster on the V10 than it did on the G4. I can't change the DPI on the V10 because the 2nd screen causes any DPI app to FC. Finger print scanner didn't work with any of my cases, but I don't really use a lock screen any ways because I use Gravity Screen. I just really feel dumb for switching...but you don't know what you have til it's gone! Oh well. I learned my lesson. I'm trying to convince my brother-in-law to trade me his G4 for my V10. Wish me luck. ( ^o^)/
I love my V10. I hated the LED on my G2 and G3. Second screen shows icons for notifications which is more helpful to me. When in silent mode I can quickly see what app is notifying me and can decide if it needs attending to. Not that activating the screen is any slower but I like that aspect of second screen. I only notice the bleed when the screen is off and the room is dark. I'm not real big into EQs or anything. The new VZW updates that came last week fixed the FPS issue. Works great with a case. I never had a FPS before and I hated security locks so I never used one previously. I absolutely love the phone. I tried root and ROMs with my G3 and while I found some features that were good I found more that I didn't have. I missed the VZW Visual Voicemail app and the LG camera app. LG has now included the flashlight with the OS and the UI is pretty smooth. I'm happy with the improvements to Lollipop on the V10. I getting an average of 4 and a half ours of Screen On Time with one charge from 100% to 5%. There are days when it's less but I am just happy with the V10. I also loved my G2 and G3 so I was confident that I'd like the V10.

Cant say as that I blame you for wanting a rooted phone back.
As far as the fingerprint scanner, I fixed that issue with some tin foil. You have to make contact with the steel sidebars to get the scanner to work. Mine works great with the caseformer case. I actually use the second screen. I comes in handy especially with the camera. And the camera takes photos in RAW format which makes photoshop editing more precise.
I use poweramp and winamp on this phone and they are great....
But if the V10 is not for you, maybe bro in law will be kind...good luck!

Anyone switching to an S7/S7 Edge?

Still no zerolemon extended battery means I am not really "invested" into this phone and the fact that I cannot use the fingerprint scanner (I have tmobile) if I have a case on the phone is still frustrating.
I am ultimately going to switch to the note 6 when it arrives but I am pondering switching to the S7 edge for the time being. I had a note 4 edge and liked it, however, going from the note 2, note 3, note 4, V10 I am worried about the size of the S7 edge.
The always on screen of the S7 and the relative uselessness (customization and such) of the V10's 2nd screen means the only thing I am really going to miss is the dual front camera. Other things about my V10 have just been pissing me off lately, like requiring a restart for the phone to begin fast charging.
Not a rant session, just surprised I am considering a change to an S series and wondering if anyone else had made such a change and how you feel.

Zerolemon came out yesterday.
For what it's worth, I don't think I could ever go back to such a "small" phone! I'll stick with phablet size! (I'd buy a 7 inch if someone would make one that was worthy! I almost always use a headset and it would still fit in most of my pockets....)

Almost preordered the Tmo S7 Edge...but saw this V10. I'm very happy with it. Its my first flagship device.
I got the V10 the first day it was out and was pretty satisfied. But there is just something "off" about it. Coming from the best phone ever, the Note 3, I was happy to see the V10 was a spiritual successor to the N3. I also was able to cash in on the extra battery and charger, and a 200gb microSD which will obviously be used with my new S7 Edge. I still have the Note 3 in my room to control all my devices and AC so losing the IR blaster in the S7 isn't as big a deal. Little things like the fingerprint scanner not working with a case, text input after a call being super slow, weirdness with Wifi calling and sending texts/mms with no service. I'm also a huge fan of a physical home button, which I only realized after it was gone. Camera is great on the V10 but all reviews are saying the S7 is at least equal to if not better. Second screen was pretty cool at first but being an LCD instead of an AMOLED turned me off with the bleeding that occurred on the side of the 2nd screen. Speaker quality was an issue as well.
Not worth the downgrade.
I ordered a silver S7 edge from tmobile. I love my LGV10 but with its flaky data connection, headphone jack issues and lackluster screen I went back to samsung. Plus, where the hell is marshmallow? I will use it as my work phone as the manual settings for camera is top notch. Unless the S7 offers the same.
I personally don't feel the need to switch.. Ir blaster is a life saver for me.. Plus I like switching batteries since I am a power user.. Going to to stick with the v10 for at least one more year.

Pulled the trigger and ordered it. The inability to use key features like the finger print scanner and the fact that you can open the camera but not take a photo for 3 seconds on top of the screen bleed just put me over the edge.
Ill use my 200gb SD in my S7 edge and will figure out how I want to manage the battery (worst case is I buy a battery case for anticipated use).
I am thinking on switching myself to s7 edge. I think they should up date this t-mobile V10 but I am tired of waiting so i guess I will jump soon as the edge is in the stores. This is supposed to be a Flagg ship phone but it's never been updated in close to 6 months of being released.
If I do switch to the S7/Edge, I'll miss the DAC. It's so awesome on this phone.

Sold my V10 this morning and my S7 Edge will be here next week, I got fed up of waiting for LG to finally get round to MM and to the Bootloader Unlock they promised for the H960A
I don't get postings like this. How is it relevant to a phone? Why all the discussions every time a new phone comes to market... Hey will you upgrade to G5, S7 G6 S8? You're obviously not sure if you should update. Then don't do it.
100%
Because of:
Bad software support.
Locked Bootloader.
Shame on you LG, our LG V10 H960a Still dont get any update
The LG v10 is rootable on tmobile which brought this phone to life. Battery is solid and changing the DPI is awesome. Camera is super hard to beat on this phone, especially in dark places like a bar or nightclub. the bigger screen is prob the best part of it.

It's also funny how they bring up "Locked Bootloader" HuH? Umm LG didn't lock the bootloader because it want to. It locks it because the carrier wants it locked. The AT&T V10 has a locked bootloader and so will the Samsung S7 from AT&T.
Thread was helpful - it was also posted in the s7e forums. Being "unsure" does not mean you should not make an attempt to determine one way or the other. Perhaps these threads always pop up because it is a valid question? Why participate if you don't have any feedback one way or the other? I have ordered the s7e and will update with impressions after using it and no longer having my v10.

LG G5 long term reliability & failures? What's the consensus as we begin 2017

I just wanted to ask the community for reports on how reliable the LG G5 has been????
It would be great to hear from professionals in the business who have first hand knowledge and experience. (techs, etc)
I demo'd a LG G5 at launch, and the fingerprint scanner stopped working 1 month in when I used a paper towel sprayed with Windex to clean the back of the phone.
Needless to say, my faith in the reliability of the G5 was ruined at that point.
I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S6 on Sprint,
but I'm thinking about moving to a G5 because the v20 is too large for my taste.
Thank you.
My issue is I occasionally do not receive texts. I've reset my phone changed sim cards and reset network settings. It still happens and I haven't had this issue with any of the 8+ different phones ive owned. I've had it for about 2 months.
I have the G5 on Sprint with the newest version of Android. I have zero issues and I love this phone!
Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk
No issues! It's pretty solid. I've rooted other phones, usually quickly after getting them, in-the-past. No reason to do that, so far. It has a pretty minimal load/apps. Love mine! :good:
I cracked my screen and LG only charged me $150 all in for repair, so that wasn't bad. The phone fell out of my pocket while I was riding my motorcycle and the screen was the only damage (though it had a case on), so that might say something good about the overall durability.
I just realized my volume down key has stopped working, so back to LG Warranty Repair (their dime this time) it goes. So that's pretty frustrating.
Had phone since launch.
4 months of usage and the only issue is the screen-burn-in
Crazy you guys have burn in. Got mine opening day and it's been flawless since.

Got my phone since September 2016. Only one issue, "image retention". But doesn't stays that long. Love my G5. Wasn't amazed on G6 :v. Hope G7 is a better one.
Had the phone since Oct2016 but I would not recommend it unless you got it super cheap. The battery life has taken a dive and I cannot find the culprit but considering it was that great to begin with it sucks even more now (2hr SoT, moderate usage).
If you care about root, don't get sprint version. Honestly a lot of the problems seem to happen to older versions. I am sorry guys but don't buy G6! Specs are barely an upgrade. Same ram and worst camera? How the hell is that an upgrade? The only thing I want of it is water resistance.

I got mine May 2016. I did get the image retention after a while but I just installed Blue Light Filter and image retention is gone. After around 7 months my GPS stopped working. Luckily the fix is easy and it takes 10 minutes but it still requires you to open the phone. Last thing is the rear camera glass is not so scratch resistant so I replaced mine (by myself, part cost me 2.5$ from China). Other than that all good. Battery is great, camera is great, software is great, plenty of fast, speaker is loud, love the IR blaster and if course the removable battery. I always carry a second battery in my bag so I literally don't care about battery level and it's amazing if you travel. I do think that image retention should not happen for a flagship and the same for GPS.. with that in mind, this is the only one on the market with almost every feature I wanted. Oh, the wide angle is awesome. I'm jealous at lake with G6 because the wide angle is now 13MP. Oh well..
No failures so far. Six months into a second-hand 830 G5 and I've got one good horror story. Phone got put in drying machine in coat pocket. Exited pocket, exited flap case, wore-off enamel on edges and corners, shut down in overheat... Even the questionably-designed (imho) detachable battery chin made it through with barely any functional damage. I just removed the chin screws and reset the mic/speaker strip that got slightly dislodged. No scratches normally visible on the gorilla glass. Overall, my G5 survived this horrific ordeal triumphantly. I wouldn't have expected any phone to survive the hot metal drum, but the detachable chin didn't even detach. For what it's worth, no screen burn-in noticed at any point, before or after. I purchased a second battery that tends to hold charge better than the one I got with the phone. Fingerprint scanner still works normally, vibration, cameras... Volume keys are more reliable when phone is used in a case -how they respond to pressure was altered somehow by the ordeal- but I'd still consider my particular phone 80% reliable after everything, rooted, rommed and all. I wouldn't have thought, but the G5 is a tough muther.
Well, both the G6 and Samsung S8 are complete failures due to the non-removable batteries and glass construction.
The LG G5 issue being reported of boot looping, GPS issues, and screen issues really has me scared to buy a LG G5, even though the specs are what I want.
So, before I buy a new LG G5, just wanted to check in again.
What's the current consensus on the long term performance and reliability of the LG G5?
Thanks in advance.

I am using this device for the past four weeks. I did loads of heavy tests like flashing custom ROM few times and revert to stock ROM using UPPERCUT. Flashed incorrect kernel and thought I bricked my phone. But as long as the phone could boot in to bootloader, we can play around a lot. I don't see bootloops in normal operations. I forced flashing mods though I know not correct one, I partioned interal memory and lost all memory except 4gb which was used for system ROM. I could revert everything to factory / unboxed state. Happy with this device so far as I like the spec mainly camera and screen resolution. I could take very pro photos. Night shoots are fantastic. I would recommend buying this device.
I could not find this device in phone stores as they stopped selling because of SE version and also LG6 planned release. Ordered from Amazon and luckily had one for the best price £244. They had only one on stock. ?

Got mine... So far, so awful.

I can't believe how laggy and how horrible this thing scores on benchmarks. I am getting 118k on AnTuTu and 1200/3200 in Geekbench. Worse than the G5. I wiped it and ran the tests again with the same results. About three hours into ownership and I am totally disappointed. It's probably going back to TMobile.
I think mine is way too narrow also. Feels like a 5" inch phone. Thought it would be way wider.

Why ? A 18:9 has less screen area than a 16:9 with the same diag measurement. This has been noted in reviews of the phone.
As noted in this review, the total screen area is actually a little larger than the iPhone 7 plus and in a smaller body, but still less total screen area than a 5.7" phone with a 16:9 ratio.

Jajajaja it does feel small maybe is out mind playing tricks

For some odd reason the nav bar is absolutely enormous, even in small display mode, making the usable area of the screen quite a bit less than 5.7, making it feel much more like 5.2/౩. If it weren't for the always on display this thing would already be back in the box.
I'm assuming you guys have not taken an update, if there even is one. In order to preserve whatever root method comes about first?
I disabled updates.
I feel like my head is being squeezed and getting headache using the G6 its so dam narrow. Going back to my 8" LG X Pad.

At least there is a 2 week window for returns. If needed.

I'd hate to return it. I do love the two cameras, fingerprint reader, wireless charging, and being waterproof.

It really does feel laggy to me. Even moving around the play store, scrolling web pages. Am I just spoiled by iOS?
Idk it felt slow and as you said, benchmarks are way less than those others with an SD821

Yea I score way more than that on my v20, once you root and remove the bloat you guys will be fine. For the ones complaining of size have you held the v20, that maybe the phone for ya.

My G6 feels faster than my G4. I almost got the V20 but it didn't have wireless charging. I got a wireless charging sticker for the G4. I'll try to get use to this odd 5.7" screen size.
The G6 really reminds me of my old 5" HTC DNA with Verizon that was the 1st phone to have wireless charging back in like 2012.

After a full days use on my T-Mobile LG G6, it's definitely not as buttery as my Pixel but performance is good enough for an Android device running last year's silicon. You can tell the software isn't optimized for the SD821 like it is on the Pixel. The Pixel is by far the smoothest phone I've ever used.
So far the only thing that bugs me is the uneven LCD screen, the bottom half is warmer than the top which triggers my OCD like crazy and I see it every time on a white background. Brings back memories of my OnePlus One days where I had to exchange 4 different times to get a half way decent screen.
I'm getting really good battery life so far which is a good sign and it charges way faster than my Pixel it seems. Camera so far has been pretty meh... I took a few night pictures and they come out better on my Pixel.
So far, Pixel to me is still the king, I'll most likely return this thing and try the Galaxy S8. If that doesn't blow me away, I'm hanging onto my Pixel until the next gen version.

Don't worry once you guys get root you can use kcal to adjust screen calibration as we guys with the v20s are doing

T-Mobile shipped out their pre-orders early
yeah I`m waiting on ATT version, but I`m been with android forever, I`m also thinking of getting Iphone 7 plus and I have played with my wife`s phone and love how smooth and quick it is, not sure yet.........but I`m little concerned with the issues reported
Root is not fixing this thing's performance issues. It's not bloat causing it, its just clearly unoptimized. You will definitely want software updates enabled to get hopefully optimized software.
