Stuck at Firmware Screen - Sprint Note Edge Android Development

i have a note edge from sprint, it is a friend of mines. Who by the way didnt listen to me and let me do it to begin with.
the phone when powered on is stuck at
Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again.
He did not get to install TWRP on the device.
Can anyone point me in the right direction of how maybe i can get this to work. i have tried the Kies software but it keeps saying that it is not connected.
Also, i have not seen anywhere that uses Odin, is this because of the Sprint version.

What does this mean? You can use Odin for basically everything on this phone.
Well, you can't use it to make that worthless edge screen become something of value. You can't do that with Odin.
But Odin will do what you need. Power button, home button, and volume up button, all pushed at the same time, will give you the option to put the phone into Download mode and you can go Odin from there.

Had similar issue, with the Edge in this situation. There is no obvious "download" screen when this happens because all you will get is that message.
1 Ignore Kies, wont help you
2. download the stock firmware from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...alaxy-note-edge-stock-5-1-1-firmware-t3162245 (and thank the OP for posting it!)
3.Get Odin if dont have it already.
4. get phone to where it says "try again" and hook to computer
5. Flash the stock Rom via oden. Once you hit start in Odin you will, hopefully, see the download happen on the edge screen
I am assuming you know how to work Odin, if not, check out the several walk-throughs. The big thing is that, in this situation, error message screen IS the download screen at that point.

I downloaded the firmware but I'm not quite sure where to place the firmware under. There are several spots such as CP, CSC, BL, and AP.
Also, What do you mean by flashing the stock? Thank you for your time to read this. ;3

You can still flash from that screen. It's still download mode

I'm a huge noobie with this, but what is the difference between a T-Lock and a Flash Lock? Also, there isn't anything to check besides the default and the flash options right? Thank you, my root didn't go all the way thru so I'm trying to revert it to the un-rooted version.
[Edit]
So, I put the file in the AP area and started it. Then I get a red button that says "fail". I'm using the model and service provider but I'm not sure whats wrong, The only thing that I think could be not allowing me to unroot my phone is the flash lock, unless, I need more files for the Bl, Cp, CSC..

I rooted my S3 no problem. please please help quickly
I don't know why your flashing a pit file to root . Read the noob guide .

it said in the root guide to flash to pit file to flash back to eclair. thats why i flashed the pit.
but i have flashed just the pdf.tar alone and it after odin resets it it just rotates like its loading then the battery icon appears shortly. after i remove the usb cord and try to boot up it just flashes the tmobile vibrant then over than over, so what do i have to do?
Also i cannot get into recovery, the only thing i can get into is download mode. and nothign i have read is helping me with this specific problem. i have downloaded like 3 different tools and one click flash to stock one click unsoftbrick and i am not getting ANYTHING nothing but bootloops, and ADB isn't recognizing my device either
It sounds like the files you are
using are just to go back to stock, read this

I have been trying to flash back to stock i have used that PDA file and nothing, do i also need to flash the pit if i am trying to just go back to stock?
Edit:
I am Using this utility right now. and i flashed the PDF that came with it, alone then i am currently flashing the Pit and the PDF File and i am getting no response from the phone, nothing i flash via odin is working. so what is wrong? it is the t-mobile galaxy this is driving me crazy,
Yes!!! You need to flash BOTH the PIT and PDA files at the same time in order to go back to stock. Read that file Samsgun linked second.
Boot into download mode.
Open Odin with admin privileges
Connect phone
Make sure yellow Com box is lit up
Click PDA and load it
Click PIT and load it
Make sure Repartition is checked
Say a little prayer (jk)
Hit start
Green pass, yippee! !!
Now you are on 2.1 Eclair
Woodrube said:
You can download the Superuser.zip and/or the CWR zip from my signature.
If you are just going to root it and leave Eclair on there, then pull the Superuser zip from my signature.
If you are going to flash a custom ROM on there, then pull the CWR zip from my signature (but make sure you have already downloaded a ROM.zip to flash with this).
For Root. Put Supersuser.zip in your Internal_SD card and make sure it is named Update.zip and the only thing on there named that. Boot into recovery using the key combo (Volume +/- and Power, when you see Vibrant come up, release the Power button but keep ahold of the Vol+/-) It will boot into "stock" recovery. Scroll down to Reinstall Packages and hit it. Might have to hit it twice, then reboot. You should have Root.
For CWR/Custom ROM. Same as above only no need for the Root.zip. Find a ROM that you want to flash (make sure to read OPs) and download it and put it on a folder where you know it will be in the phone. Just put the CWR on your Internal_SD and again make sure it is named Update.zip. Boot into recovery, scroll down to Reinstall Packages, hit it. It will cycle through and the stock (blue) recovery will turn to CWR (green) and you can then scroll down to Install From SD card and find the ROM that you downloaded beforehand.
Some things. Booting into recovery isn't easy and can take you a few times to get it. Also you can root using Z4 app, but you'll have to find that on your own.

i have done exactly that in that odrer, and after odin resets my phone it does that little loading circle then flashes battery screen, then goes to the little rotating loading then back to the battery. it never actually reboots, if i remove the cord and try to boot up that way it just flashes the samsung vibrant then the loading screen, rinse and repeat same out come every time
Just to rule this out. Is this phone a T959 (3g) or T959V (4g)? Look under the battery. Does it have a front facing camera? There have been a rash of those lately and just want to make sure before you move on.
I'm off for the next few days but there are plenty of people around that can help. If you need any of the files in my signature just click them.

FFC is usually the tip off for future issues like this Samsgun.
Our FFCs are aftermarket mods, so if you know your audience, ie mom/dad types, not power users like us (I am a father btw) and OP, then you'll be able to spot it right off.

Bro, if this phone is from T-Mobile/america you got a 4g version. If it is international, we don't know what to tell you. Is your back cover a honeycomb like style or metallic finish?

Unauthorized Software error

Hey Everyone,
I woke up this morning to an Unauthorized Software message on my rooted Galaxy Note 2. I have been rooted for a long time now with no problems. I have not accepted any updates and have not made any recent changes to my device. I was using TWRP 2.6 and Jedi Rom when this message occurred. I tried flashing back to stock following the directions posted on the development forum but that doesn't seem to get the message to go away. I am not sure what else to do at this point to fix the issue. Any help would be appreciated.

You weren't unlocked when you flashed, that's why the message popped up. Go check out Droidstyles guide and if you can't get the message to go away using it try flashing one of the restore to stock roms with NAND erase checked.

I followed Droidstyles guide and it didn't work. I also tried what you suggested with NAND erase checked and it did not work either. At a loss. I know my bootloader was unlocked. Something happened while I was sleeping last night that started this message.
Anyone else have any ideas?

There is no way you got that message unless you were locked. Therefore, you tried flashing something while having a locked bootloader. I recommend looking at stickies. You'll find something
It might not be from a locked bootloader.
I know for a fact that there's something deep in the firmware that can do this.
When I was playing around with mine I hade it do this a few times. And I promise my bootloader is unlocked.
Infact right now I'm running on t mobile with cleanrom ACE and a custom kernel.
one of the things I know for sure that will give you that message is trying to run the wrong modem.
Check an be sure you didn't get a bad radio flash or something.

How would I know if I have a bad radio flash? I cant even get into the phone fully before it errors out and I have to power it down. I have tried several times to follow the directions on the forum and flash it back to stock. However, this does not seem to be working. I am certain my bootloader was unlocked. I have had the phone rooted for well over 6 months. Like I said, I went to bed and when I woke up in the morning it was showing this error message. The only thing that I have updated was super user app. But it doesn't make sense that it would be causing this. Especially now that I have flash back to stock. I cant attempt to re-root the phone either because that requires me to be able to get into the phone and turn on debugging mode.
This happened to me on my s3. I had to use odin and the unbrick files.
where did you find those guides, I have the same problem, lol cant find those guides and for some reason odin 3 wont inst on my pc...

ok so after 4 hrs got it to work.
here go to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040264 down load alternate restore. Once it down loads the file extension ends with XZ, which Odin said was not a PDA file.
It has an odd file extension .xz (perhaps meant to be .gz) so I told 7zip to extract it. resulting file ended in .tar.md5. Put that file on odins PDA section. Boot up your phone with volume down, home and power button pressed to boot up in odin, once it boot up connect to pc and press the volume botton up to start odin download on the phone. the select start on odin soft ware on pc, should fix your phone.

You are doing something wrong, either way this process is to revert your phone back to stock, from there you can root again. Theres no other way about it and is the only way I got my phone off that.
boot phone pressing vol key down, home and power.

press vol key up
start odin

[Q&A][Resolved] Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 USA Bricked

Here I am, crying about another bricked Samsung Galaxy Player. All of the other threads either have outdated links, or are not the 5.0 USA version. Anyway, here's my problem:
I was trying different ROMs and then my device got locked into a boot loop. In my trying to fix it, I bricked it. The display shows the image of the phone, yellow triangle, and computer connected by dots. To troubleshoot this, I have tried so many different tutorials on forums, etc. The most recent one I have tried is Here. I think I need to just completely re-install the original firmware, ROM, and whatever else I need to. I tried using the oneclick.jar file with arch linux; it seemed to execute and copy everything to the device, but nothing happened. Anyway I'm really new to all of this, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Edit: I tried the instructions at this post: Here. My device randomly shuts off in the middle of the third step.
Also, if you run into the download screen flicker/slide problem, the solution to all of this is in my post at the bottom.

The little colored area that shows the status turns red and says "error." I'm thinking it must be the low battery charge, but how do I go about re-charging it? If i plug it into the charger, it'll go through 5-minute cycles of being off and on, which is not enough time to complete all 3 steps. I'm guessing the 5-minute cycles are charge/discharge cycles that the device performs. Either way, I'm still not sure what to do. Also, do I need to install a bootloader from odin?

I'd try to install a boot loader, aslong as the device powers on and you can get it into download mode and connected to odin to flash a boot loader you should be good. Not sure about everyone else but i already have 4 roms stored on my device so the last time this happened, i just got a bootloader into there via odin, got into cwm and wiped/flash everything again.

I'm not really sure which bootloader I'm supposed to use, so I got the one from this thread. I extracted the "GalaxyPlayer-Bootloader.zip" and found multiple files, such as odin and the bootloader file, in the zip archive. The bootloader file was compressed as a .rar, so I extracted it and then archived it as a .tar and used that file for the bootloader option in odin. Nothing happened, the green progress bar didn't go anywhere and eventually the battery cycle ran through and odin said it failed. I'm not sure if the correct files were in the bootloader .tar archive, so here's what I put in there: "boot.bin", "param.lfs", "Sbl.bin"
Are these the files needed in the .tar archive for a bootloader? Or do I only need "boot.bin"?
Thanks so much again for the help!

took a look at the archive, just extract it to a folder on your desktop. open Odin3 v1.81
where is says "PIT" in the middle click on that and select the only file it shows.
Under "PIT" is "BOOTLOADER" check the box next to that then click on "BOOTLOADER" and select the download mode only one. hit start and wait for it to do its thing, should prompt you to disconnect the device after a few minutes and it will reboot into cwm, from there flash whatever rom file you have on your device. If you don't have one then see if you can load one onto a micro sd card and pop that into the galaxy player.

First of all, thanks so much for all of the support. I feel really stupid for thinking that the .tar file was a .rar file; I have no clue how I mixed that up. Anyways, I got it fixed and here's how I did it for anyone else with the same problem as me:
I kept trying the method of uploading the pit, followed by the two ROMs, but that still wouldn't work. I tried stopping it in between two steps, because I figured the random shutdown might have been because of a battery charge issue or something. Once I successfully paused between the two steps, and carried out all three, I tried to boot into recovery, and instead, the little circle made of dots would appear for a split-second, followed by a freaky-looking download mode screen sliding everywhere and flickering. At first I thought it was a hardware failure, and that I might need to replace the screen. If you have this problem, a broken screen is not the case!!! To solve this, download this .zip file (from this thread) which is the factory bootloader. You will also need a micro-SD card. Make sure to put your device in download mode by pressing and holding the down volume button and the power button at the same time, even if your screen says that it is in download mode, it may not be in download mode. Unzip the .zip file, and run odin. Choose the .pit file, and for the PDA, choose "GalaxyPlayerBootloaders.tar", and not the "GalaxyPlayerDownloadModeOnly.tar". Start odin, and as soon as your device does the automatic shutdown, hold the up volume button and the power button at the same time. This will get you into recovery mode at last, and now just use a micro SD card to install the factory ROM (downloaded from here) on the device.

Alright so get a rom from this page. You'll need to get an international one (as you probably know) and use odin to flash the rom. I hope this helps, feel free to ask about stuff you don't understand.
Note: If you can hear a sound when you plug your device into a computer, odin should still recognize your device.

The only way to get it on is plug it into my charger via micro usb. Recovery mode is unable to work. I can get into download mode though. And if I don't hit any buttons, it just said "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again".
I just want to be able to use my phone again, I'm totally alright with having to wipe every bit of data off of it and have it absolutely factory new. How can I do this? I could use Odin or Kies. However, Kies can't recognize my phone and just says "Device not responding. To resolve the issue, reboot the device." I'm tried dozens of times, it just can't find my device.
Please help.. I am phoneless and I could care less about losing data at this point.

Some people have had success with pressing the volume keys while in that "Firmware upgrade" error, causing the phone to continue to a normal boot. It's worth a try. Failing that, download the proper ROM image for your phone and flash it using ODIN.
If you don't know what build it has, I'd start with flashing a no-wipe MK2 image.
First, how'd you get to this point. Was this associated with rooting / flashing / something else? When you get into download mode, are you trying to Odin something in? It shouldn't say "Firmware upgrade encountered..." unless you're trying to push something. What happens when you get into recovery mode?
Second, do you know which factory image you started with? That's important, because if you started with an earlier image and flash an newer one, you can't go back. and the earlier the image, the easier the root.
This thread has no-wipe factory images. They're large files, so heads up.

You need Odin working. Good luck.

I'd start with a MDK, earlier doesn't hurt, and I believe that's the first factory image released officially
and here's a full wipe image for MDK (erroneously called MKD in the title)

I'd try the No-Wipe images first

Well initially, yesterday my phone crashed and I couldn't get it back on, unless I charged it and a grey battery icon would pop up and it'd vibrate every few seconds but nothing would happen. I couldn't get into recovery there either. So I got into download mode and I looked for things that could get me into recovery mode so I could factory reset. I flashed something on it using Odin and it worked.. To a point. On startup(plugging phone in) It would bring me into the samsung logo and the blue text in the top right saying recovery, but then the phone would just stop. And it'd be in a boot loop doing this until I unplugged. Now I woke up this morning and I'm getting this new error from Kies. I have the files that I flashed it with last night.

how did it crash in the first place? and also, it's important to know what you flashed through odin to understand what's going on. we may never figure that out so.... it looks like you lost recovery. the only thing left is download mode. (If you can't go into download mode, I don't know any other options.)
read up on which factory image applies to you and odin it. you'll start fresh and then need to root to.

I'm totally fine with losing my root, and my old rom and stuff.. I could care less. I know how to root and its very easy along with getting safestrap going again. However, I was on MK2 and I don't see that in the list of images.
(I wasn't able to put my link in, but I just saw something on a website regarding Odin, and using the "re-partition" check box. I used that(it said to on the instructions) and the thing I just saw said to NEVER use that) I flashed that and with pit. I'm new to odin sooo yeah I don't necessarily know everything that goes on.
Also, the phone crashed in what seemed like a completely random flash... I was literally just on snapchat, things froze up, and my phone started doing the boot animation for Hyperdrive 15(The rom I was running) but it never finished, half way through, the phone turned off.
Mk2 came after those, so do a search. With Odin you shouldn't touch anything except load the file in the second slot. I forget what it's called. Read the Odin tutorials

So this factory image, wouldn't I want one that DOES wipe the phone? Since I just want everything to be clean and new again?

Okay, I finally flashed the MK2 no-wipe on it after many hours of downloading. Now it says "RESET" on odin and it showed samsung logo, and the recovery blue text in the top left, but then that just went to a black screen, and now I'm just getting vibrating every 2 seconds with a black screen.
EDIT: Okay so I tried seeing if download mode still worked, and it did, so I just told it to restart the phone from that and now its back to what it was doing originially. It shows the gray battery with the circle loading thing frozen in place, that stays there for a second, then screen goes black, vibrates, and it repeats this.

Link maybe? I'm fed up with downloading the wrong thing and screwing my phone over.
Flashing as PDA.
Also, read the edit I made to that post to make a more accurate response maybe?
I'll try to find it when I get to my laptop. There's a possibility your phone just bonked hardware wise. Hard to say.

If that doesn't work for you try MJ7

Those are the only two that you can go back and forth between.

Alright so I flashed the full wipe correctly and everything looked like it worked fine. But it just says "RESET" on Odin and its trying to start the phone and it shows the samsung logo but its defaulting to Recovery Mode, but after the samsung logo, and the blue text in the upper left corner "Recovery Booting..." it just black screens and boot loops like that. I believe this is because I flashed a thing on Odin yesterday that was supposed to make the phone go into Recovery(it wasn't working by holding volume and power). Any way to get rid of this stupid default recovery thing?

If MK2 is not getting you fixed up try MJ7. That should fix you right up. You should be back to business as usual. Sometimes you just need to try try again lol

Need help fixing my phone after trying to root for the first time

I've got my old Galaxy s2 and decided to root it, cause if I brick it, It wouldn't matter much. After using Odin to put a kernal on it, it only goes to the startup screen with the warning triangle. I can get it to the CW recovery screen, but it doesn't do anything after making a selection. I'm now stuck and not sure what to do. I'm super new at this, if not obvious.
Odin flash your stock firmware and start again......

Where would I that?
You get the firmware from sammobile dot com Or samsung updates dot com.
Odin can be found on xda and the Samsung USB drivers can be found on here too.
You can get Odin and the drivers here.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/guide-t2345831
Most of the advice in that thread can be followed even if you don't have any problems with odin flashing.

Took me a little while to finally find a copy of the stock firmware. Flashed it, and now the phone boots up and says,
'gaudiuscc_bootimage.jpg' draw failed
If you flashed 4.0.4 don't try this, but have you tried booting into recovery to do the wipes?

It has Clock Work on it, but when I make a selection on the recovery screen it doesn't do anything. It goes to a black screen with the CW logo, where the new menu should be. If I hit the power button again it takes me back to the main menu. I can't even shutdown the phone from the recovery screen.
If you flashed a stock firmware then it won't have ClockworkMod recovery on it....
It should be Android 3e recovery.
http://i.imgur.com/rVnFwJM.jpg
I don't know why I thought that it still had Clock Work on it. I've got it to the recovery screen, and it won't let me make a selection. It makes it seem like the power button dosen't work, but if it didn't there would be no way to turn it on.
I don't know why that's happening either, but as a workaround you could try installing the correct PhilZ recovery....They come as zip or tar files....so you can use the tar file with odin.
PhilZ is a touch based recovery, so you don't need to rely on using the buttons.

Flash the full stock firmware of your Galaxy S2. Make sure that you wipe the data too. You can get the stock firmware from Sammobile.com. Make sure that you flash the stock kernel too.

Make sure to flash 4.1.2 too.

I already advised the OP to do just that and he's still having problems.....

Alright, so now the recovery works, even if it wasn't touch enabled. So now I think I'm at the point at which I first tried to root it a while back. I think I installed some wrong firmware. It's the Alltel model (and maybe also the US cellular model), but the AT&T intro plays then freezes. Can I just install a different ROM on it?
What is your Model Number? GT-I9100,GT-I9100G, or what?

Then you should flash the firmware that is only for that model number.

I haven't been able to find it anywhere. Every download link is dead or just not there anymore.
And would I flash it the same way I have with the recovery stuff?
Hmmm dead download links for the Galaxy S2? Sorry but I can't help you if there is no more download link for your stock firmware.

Have you fixed it??
If not have a read of this and see if it helps:- Go to Galaxy SII General forum Find This:- [GUIDE] Fix an unflashable or soft bricked GSII (I9100G/M/P/T VERSION INCLUDED) By Phistachio.
I could not find an exact match of my phone for firmware and in the end went for the country /region and local service provider. I guess I got lucky! Once you get JB or ICS running you can load a recovery like TWRP and then "Progress" to your choice of custom ROMs.
