PPSSPP Emulator - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Any of you tried the PPSSPP emulator on the G5 yet? I am getting some performance issues and I was wondering if this is an optimization issue with the Snapdragon 820. If not, do any of you care to share your settings for the emulator on your G5?

There are a few videos on YT that give to best settings for S7 on certain games which should also apply to G5 since they share the same processor (well in US atleast)

Mess with the frame skip option in the emulator.
Sent from my LGLS992 using Tapatalk

Frameskip appears to fix audio jitter but actually worsens overall performance and responsiveness for me, I also have trouble getting Resistance: Retribution to be playable at all, is that particular to the game or is there something still not patched for the SD820?

i just tried resistance aswell as wipeout pulse.
it seems it does not matter that much if you change anything to the graphical settings.. in fact.. i could use fxaa, full resolution aswell as 16xAA without performance decrease so the problem does not seem to lie inside the rendering.
in wipeout pulse i noticed something..
i finished a race. in slow motion almost...
the second the score board becomes visible the game starts to run at full speed (max res, 16xAA, fxaa, ...) without any lag.
behind the scoreboard you can watch the game continue being played by AI.
as soon as you are in control of a ship, the game will start decelerating again.
fun fact: frame skip will work well in wipeout. multi threading will not have any effect.
resistance however seems unplayable to me. multi threading will make it unplayable.

[Q] Why does angry birds lag?

Why does angry birds lag on this phone? Is that normal? Oh, and merry christmas everyone!
It is designed for high performance devices. It isn't designed for mdpi devices like our Optimus.
There will come a lite version soon. Same levels but optimized for budget-phones.
i have same problems with many games so not try to play them, uninstall )
The youtube videos i've seen show angry birds running really well, with other games too. Also the 3D benchmarks i've seen show this phone getting about double the performance as a nexus one.
Whats up with that? Maybe the 2.3 fix for the touchscreen problem will make them run well?
But the game isn`t even 3D. Then it must be the physics of the game that is choking the CPU? 600mhz should be enough for that simple game
Yeah, it's the physics that lag the game. It only lags during the initial setup of the objects and after you hit a bunch of stuff (has to recalculate their position.) It's simply a matter CPU power; not much we can do
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
Also try installing the game on your phone memory. It sped up Angry Birds for me. My memory card is Class 2 so that made it really slow. Phone memory improved it a lot.
It's laging when it's loading. If you would give this game few seconds to load levels and etc, you could play it smoothly.
Angry birds is designed for high class Android devices, not for medium class devices like our Optimus One.
The thing that lags is game physics.
If you want to play it without lag, and score many points in the benchmarks, you can install Megatron ROM. It's has many modifications, that allows Optimus One to go further with perfomance.
Yeah, been thinking about flashing megatron and some overclocking, that should do the trick
This all seems strange since my 2G ipod touch (400 mhz) runs it perfect.
If you will not touch display during play it will be really smooth.
Its know problem with 100% load if you touch display. This problem occurs on more devices with Android OS, but some times it's not so big problem like on OO. Google promised that in Android 2.3 Gingerbread most problems with touchscreen was optimized.

I tried the lite beta version. It is crashing on intial screen. Hoping they come out with a sstable version very soon.
I have set my CPU speed to 768 mhz and i can play AB nearly good. Its laggin for a few second at the beginning of a level but than i can play without lags.
I have enabled JIT and HA too.
Thats bull****.
Angry birds runs on my iPodTouch 2G (533mhz) extremely smooth only the Menu lags on it.
On my Optimus One the Menu is VERY smooth no lag at all but playing it laggs ONLY when touching the Screen (shooting a bird) or when it crushes into the wood/stones etc.. ingame.
To me it looks like a Performance Bug in the LG ROM. Also
on my damn iPod Touch 2G, NFS Undercover works very well.
Didnt tried it yet on my Optimus One I also use the stock Firmware.
I compare the Optimus One with my iPod Touch 2G because they are quite similar.
Same resolution nearly the same Processor speed. But of course the iPodTouch 2G is weaker.
On the Hardware side the Optimus One should play all games fairly well. On my ****ty iPod I even played GTA Chinatown Wars.
I hope 2.3 Gingerbread will fix that!!
Angry Birds lags especially in the later levels
levels 1 and the more simpler levels are fast but levels such as 1-21 lags cuz there's a lot of blocks and things to position.
But, does anyone know why an Ipod touch 2g with even a lower clocked processor is faster and smoother than our Optimuses?
Mine does lag, but it isn't frequent. Not really a major annoyance for me. Just try killing some background apps you're using (like facebook, but for some reason it respawns).

Might be because apps on the ipod/iphone only have to be optimized for a few different CPU's but mostly the same hardware, with android, there's a wide range of devices with different CPU speeds, different graphics chipsets, different ROMs, so it's hard to get it optimized unlike on the iPod/iPhone

I also have a 2G ipod touch and these are my thoughts exactly! I don't have my Optimus T yet, it's waiting at the post office for me back at home, but i'm eagerly awaiting gingerbread too!
yah that's true
im annoyed at the lag though

GS3 and FPse, how it performs?

Hello, can maybe some one post some videos on how FPse performance with GS3?

I've seen that, nice video.
I've tested it. Originally it ran at 256 fps, so I had to turn on vsync to cap it at 60 fps.
Runs super smooth here

I've been having a tinker with FPse myself.
Running version 0.11.24.
Using Final Fantasy 9 as a test ISO, it runs amazingly well in "software" mode, if you turn off frame limiting the area's I checked were running at 250+fps.
I didn't notice any bugs either. but graphically, the game looks horrible, pixelated and blurry.
Now, there's an openGL plugin for FPse, which makes it look fantastic, much better then software mode. but it's choppy and buggy. Not unplayable mind you, (40 - 100 fps) but it can dip to 20 at some scenes.
Now the worst part is, currently the OpenGL plugin does not support the MALI400 GPU in the S3. If you try to directly run an ISO using the pluggin, it will not load on the S3, just shows a black screen.
there is a "trick" to load a game using the plugin though, but I wont bother getting into detail.
The dev is reportedly soon going to release fpse 0.11.27, which will allow the openGL plugin to run on a MALI400 GPU.
Check out the thread on fpsece.net.
also @NZtechfreak.
thats an N64 emu, not FPse.

Try actually watching the video before commenting, I show FPse also. Sorry, but I think I know what I'm talking about here.
In the video I run Tekken 3 just with the software GPU plugin and it runs fine, will try it out with my other games and see, but certainly Tekken 3 has no issue so it isn't universal that it doesn't work (its running 32-bit rendering with anti-aliasing on in the video at 60fps). Apparently the 0.11.27 version coming out any day will have a major revision to make things work better with the Mali too.
Thank you for all your replies more confident about buying S3 just reading the post about signal issues...
I tried it and it runs well in software mode.
I have managed to play with the Open GL plugin (Einhander and Grandia), the graphics are very very good and the frame rate is ok.
But as dark_day says, you have to do a very anoying trick (with Tekhen3) to play.
Also I didn't manage to play with the iControlPad and the OpenGL plugin whereas it works well in software mode.
My only problem in software mode, if someone has an answer : I didn't manage to play in 4:3. Even when I select original screen size it's still in 16:9.

[Q] PPSSPP emulator slow?

Hey guys, just wondering if any of you have tried running PPSSPP on your z2 yet and if you were having any problems.
I can't seem to get Tekken 6 running at a playable speed (it runs at an average of 65% speed ingame). I can get it to sort of run fine when I turn on 7-8 frameskip, but then of course the framerate suffers to compensate...
I've tried many settings and have made sure that power saving features are deactivated... Could this be z2 specific or am I just missing something (I'm really hoping it's the latter)?
Cheers
P.S. (P?) Fwiw, I can get 3D Android games running fine (e.g. Spiderman 2, Prince of Persia Snf)

Ppsspp isn't that optimised yet... You're mistaking emulation with native Android code when talking about running the Android games.
Basically, ppsspp is taking psp game data and translating it to Android code to make it run... Every single bit of data.
This requires huuuuge cpu usage and is the reason it's so slow.
Tl : dr: no... It isn't yet possible to run most psp games at full speed, especially not extensive 3d ones like tekken.

Thanks for the reply. I totally understand emulators will never be 100% compatible and perfect, even on high end computers just as lossy compression will never be a prefect representation of the original product.
But after some internetting, I found that PPSSPP seems to be able to run at least Tekken 6 at what seems to be close enough to original speed on most mid-high range phones. Examples:
Tkn6 on SGS3: http://youtu.be/t4lw0OexO3Y
Crisis Core FF7 on latest HTC M8 (which has pretty much the same processor as the z2): http://youtu.be/8mH1Z2cebpY
And many more videos of phones running Tkn6 just fine: http://www.google.com.au/search?q=y...Z04H4BQ&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=348&bih=409&dpr=3
TL;DR: PPSSPP seems to run Tekken 6 and graphically similar games fine on most phones, even those with inferior as well as similar specs to ze Z2, yet I can't seem to replicate anything close to the same speed let alone the same. :/
I bet there's just a setting that I stupidly forgot to change somewhere... Might try downloading Crisis Core and see how that goes.
EDIT: Hmm actually it seems Crisis Core runs fine. Guess it still could be the new CPU/GPU.

Wow... That s3 video of tekken6... I'm amazed.
Did you try replicating his settings shown at the beginning?
If not it could simply be that it isn't ready to use our phones full power yet and just got to wait for a few updates.
Or something somewhere is bogging the cpu down

Hi, I'm a PPSSPP developer and I'd just like to say that Tekken 6 is one of the hardest PSP games to emulate along with God of War.
You definitely need to have the latest version of PPSSPP from the download page, ppsspp.org/download and not just the one on Play Store. You also need to make sure you have the settings that this person was using in his video. Turn on all those speed hacks and make sure you're not turning on extra graphical effects.
Many of those settings aren't enabled by default like using multi-threading, disabling fog,.. They make a huge difference.
Then it will run at full speed.
Tekken 5 runs much faster by the way. You will be able to run it full speed without any speed hacks and will even be able to run it in Full HD with large textures.
Hi, none of the multiple combination of settings helps me to run this game, Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix on Xperia Z2 ppsspp gold 1.0.1
What should I do?

Poor gaming performance

I have noticed a lot of frame skips in even simple games like radical rappelling.
Even my moto x 1st generation used to run games smoothly.
I suspect it's more of a software issue.
Anyone who has rooted found a fix?
Try force GPU rendering in developers tool
This is what worries me the most. Does it have a 60hz panel? Oneplus one had 63hz.

poor graphics

Today's I play nfs but the game Running very poor graphics
Any one known how to increased graphics Games
Performance?

This is the best the device can do. Remember it is run by more than two year old SD400 processor, and just 2200mah battery. This phone is heavily optimised for smooth operations of a very average user. It will not play power hungry games properly. If gaming was your forte, you should have looked elsewhere. Sorry.

Oh that's great. However I feel you will end up pushing the device which will result in heating and battery drain.
Btw, would you recommend buying this device? I am in the market to buy a new phone. I like HTC phones. Currently using HTC One M8 Eye as my secondary phone. I need to buy a 4G phone for primary use. I am kind of between heavy user and light user. I don't play games. I thought of buying this phone cuz it looks stylish and the prices seem to have come down. I can fetch this in india for INR8300 (USD 125). My budget is under USD150.
