4g or LTE??????? - Sony Xperia X Questions & Answers

Hi,well,my question is this:
I've flashed my Xperia X with the .277 firmware in order to root,so i picked up a generic one,to be more specific i have this on my phone right now: F5121_Customized GEL_1302-6571_34.0.A.1.277_R5A
i did'nt noticed it,but now the signal shows LTE,when i had the previous firm it showed 4G,also when i make a phone call the signal changes to H+ or 3G.
So which one is the best? i've searched but i'm still confused, and, yes my operator supports 4G and LTE aswell.
Thanks.

The same
4G and LTE are the same thing, it depends on software, iphones use 4G, samsung uses 4G, my Z3 with Telcel rom used 4G then i flashed to a generic US and LTE was showing.
It is normal that in a call you drop from 4G/LTE to 3G/H/H+

thanks,so you are on telcel too?? lol, i've never noticed that it changed from 4g to 3g when i had the previous firmware, only with this "new" one,i just wanna get rid of that horrendous telcel logo at the bootanimation. There has to be a difference, maybe a slightly one? better reception on LTE maybe?
well thanks for the response.

Use the generic one, that firmware its free from the claro apps, also i have to say one thing,i made some tests,in the exact same place, and yes,LTE and 4G are the same, but on 4G i've managed to get 30 mbps on download and 7 mbps on upload. Also i went to the service menu and changed the network to 4G only, and made a phone call, signal does not drop to 3G,but the call can't be connected. That is because over here, whe dont have VoLTE,only VoIP,thats why the signal drops to an inferior network,4G and LTE only works for data.

[Q] 3g doesn't work?

I just got my gsm hero, its on T-Mobile. It doesn't receive 3g. I've tried every Rom imaginable, updated the radio, I still just don't receive 3g. Help?
Edit: forgot to mention, edge and WiFi and everything else work flawlessly.

Anybody?

Have you enabled the only use 2g network box?
If not, i think it is because that your coverage simply isn't good enough.
I do not have that box checked, and I know for a fact my service is good enough, my Touch Pro 2 and G1 both get like 4 bars of 3G everywhere in my house.. lol.
Could it have something to do with my APN(s)?
Do you by any chance get a "H" signal most of the time?

dude!! I had the exact same problem with o2! (a generic handset, not branded). I left o2 for tmobile and i get 3g on it.
by the way, i heard of many people having problems with the t-mobile branded hero with 3g.(dunno if yours is tmobile branded or just on tmobile). Its a hardware issue apparently, so no fixes i dont think if it is that

What do you mean by that? I get EDGE 100% of the time, if thats what you're asking.
and as for a t-mobile branded Hero, there isnt one of those here in the states. this guy's an import.
On the top bar what symbol do you see?
E = Edge
G = 2G
3G = 3G
H = HSPRS (or something) - this is the fastest signal level, its like 3.5G essentially

Does anyone else know?

[Q] Tmo HTC Radar 4G USA on Deepshining - only 3G

So I just got the Deepshining ROM installed on my TMobile Radar 4G (USA)
Have a question about the flashed radio... is it only 3G? Before I flashed the radio and ROM I used to always get 4G (and sometimes 2G). Now, I am spending a big chunk of my time at "3G".
The phone doesn't seem to be slower, so I don't know if it is just branding, or what? Any experience on this?
Also, I did change the settings to make the radio, "North America".

Haven't experienced it. I have an H on my status bar right now and also on Deep Shining.
Did you mess with any other settings after installing?
It's just branding. T-Mobile changed both the 3G and H indicators to 4G. The custom ROM you installed probably has the standard 3G/H ones instead.
I changed another setting on the phone somewhere to display 3G+ as 4G. Now, I am occasionally seeing a "4G" status.
But, it really doesn't matter. Speeds seem good, and seems to be all branding anyway.
Awesome, awesome ROM!!
just to give some extra info Radar got an 3G antenna and Radar 4G got an 4G antenna and that thingy next to your connection bar doesnt show the actual antenna but just a string from the registry or somewhere in the rom i got an radar and a radar 4g rom and it show 4G but I still got 3G connection

[Q] Best Radio for Mobilicity

Can recommend a radio for this phone? It was originally for Rogers, unlocked, rooted, and I'm using blackstar jelly bean.
At first i used the SGH-T989D TLMC4 radio, only worked well downtown Mississauga.
Right now I'm using the Blaze 4G UVMB1, radio, works a lot better but I live on the edge of coverage so it's spotty at best when I am at home.
So if you have an experience, please give me a recommendation.
This is my exact set up man, good to see someone on this site on the same boat. I've noticed that the T98 works better on 4.2 for some reason. I get really poor reception in my room (switches from mobilicity to CND roaming allot). But on 4.2 I was able to make calls and send text more reliably. Try "kid blaze" though it doesn't show any signal bars but it connects pretty well

Well blackstar jelly bean works really well so I'm hesitant to change. I disabled roaming by making it connect only on the 1700mhz frequency, I don't see it disconnect to much.
Err what's "kid blaze"? I assume its the KID based ICS radio on this page?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679722
I tried flashing to it but under "baseband version" it says "unknown" and there's no signal whatsoever. I reverted back to my backup with the Blaze 4G radio. It's strange I tried using the t-mobile note modems and they don't work but Samsung s2 and s1 modems work.

thats the thing with this modem, it wont show any info but it connects somehow, once it says "mobilicity" in your notification pulldown, you should be connected. i tested it for a couple weeks and it worked pretty well, this is the convo i had about it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42369927#post42369927
side note: i remember reading somewhere that you had you input a code in the dialer like "#266#" and it would give a menu option to select the 1700 band. when you changed the band to only 1700 did it reduce the roaming a lot? when i check my signal stats in setting, it says im roaming like 50% of the time

I input *#2263# to select wcdma 1700 only. Disables roaming completely. I don't disconnect that often.
I guess I'll stick with the Blaze 4G UVMB1 modem then, it works and shows my signal strength. I got it from here:

If I decide to switch back to default in order to receive enable roaming, how do I go about doing so?

Just switch back to automatic.
I just ported my number to Wind. Reception is a ton better than Mobilicity. So glad to leave them, they were dirt cheap but you get what you pay for. I even get 200$ for addon credits.... kick ass

[Q] i717 on T-Mobile LTE goes to EDGE instead of 4G

After almost a year of inputting various *# and #* codes, I finally got my i717 to work on T-Mobile LTE (southside of greater Chicagoland).
This is on stock ATT JB rom and modem. On a good day I will get over 20Mbps down and 8-10Mbps up. epc.tmobile apn worked best at first, but after about a day or so, fast.tmobile apn setting did about the same. Service mode is set to Automatic and the setting in Device Info *#*#4636#*#* was set to LTE/GSM/WCDMA.
I thought all was fine until I would leave an LTE area and go into a normally (for me) 4g area
What is happening now is that I lose my LTE and go straight into EDGE. It is almost like my regular 4g is gone in areas where it used to be pretty good
Before LTE working, I was getting pretty good 4g (between 4-9Mbps down and about 1 up). This was using the same stock ATT JB rom, but with T-Mobile Blaze modem. Very seldom, like almost never, would I see EDGE. To get this I would have to go into service mode *#2263# and select WCDMA as my band preference.
If I try to use the Blaze modem, I cannot get the phone to stay in the LTE/GSM/WCDMA setting.
In a nutshell, why am I going to EDGE instead of 4g when I leave LTE?
If it matters, I am on the 5G / 100 minute $30 prepaid plan
TIA
Pretty common problem with the JB modem. You pull LTE or you pull E. For me, the best modem is UCMB4. It's an ICS modem, though, so I'm not sure how it'll work on jellybean. But you may give it a try. I pull the best speeds -- by far -- with it, and I pull consistent LTE. With the different ported modems I would have calls not go through sometimes -- weird -- and just "okay" speeds. With the ucmb4 I get solid all-around service.
I've gone from TMobile LTE to regular 4g on my mostly stock Note in Chicago. No AWS mod, no code messin, no nothin.
ATT modems will only work with tmobile refarmed 1900mhz areas. Your blaze modem is set to 1700mhz frequency band instead of 1900mhz. Thats why it works better.
Tmobile has a lot of dead areas on regular 4g with the LTE capable modem. But that's the tradeoff. Lte and refarmed 1900mhz band or just regular old 4g hspa.
no phone on Tmo 4g LTE in STL
Hey guys,
I've recently run into a problem with my unlocked i717 on TMO. It runs Android 4.1.2 (AT&T update flashed to the phone) but every since TMO rolled out their LTE in my area I get 4G LTE signals (1 or 2 bars mostly, but at times 3-4 bars) and I can send texts and data, but it cancels both incoming and outgoing phone calls.? What can I do to correct this? TMO's solution is to buy the N2 or wait til Nov for the N3. Any ideas?
Thanks...
Pete

Make sure your using the UCMD3 modem for JB. Then type *#2263# into dialer and try to set to automatic*.
Someone had this similiar problem the other day.

Thanks for all the comments. Glad to hear it is common problem and not just me going nuts.
I still like my i717, but seem to spend more and more time screwing around with it to get it to work right. Good excuse to get a Note 3 I guess

[Q] LTE Help

Hi. I just got the Z2 last week and I need some help with my LTE set up.
1. I am using my nano Sim from my HTC One M8.
2. I downloaded the att file for internet settings
3. Network Mode - LTE (Preferred)
3. The icon reads LTE
Looks like everything is working, but when I run a speed test I get terrible results. Like 0.5 mbps bad.
I have tested in various locations, but always get bad results.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

LTE isn't all it's cracked up to be .. I got an LTE sim to try recently in a large city. It turned out that H+ was actually faster , LTE was 1-2Mb, H+ was 7-8Mb , however in a less populated area I got LTE upto 20Mb. It's still down to the network in the end.
Thanks for the reply defsix. I tested on h+ also. Same results at 0.5 Mbps.
I know it comes down to coverage, but LTE is good in my area. I tested my wife's iPhone and got about 5 mbps at the same time I got 0.5.
That's why I'm not sure if I don't have something set up right.
So if I am getting the LTE icon is it just bad luck?

I'm assuming you have the correct settings on your phone ? Network settings etc.
Did you call AT&T to register the IMEI of the phone to provision it?
I've heard from several folks on att that you have to call them to set it up.
Drop by an AT&T store to see if you can get a new SIM card. Yours maybe outdated such that the newer one which could have newer information to support other towers.
I'm actually to change my SIM card up because one area I usually go to is a bit weak and they did look at my SIM card info and told me mine was an older one and try getting a new one.
If you did all the updates on the phone it shouldn't even show LTE but 4G instead. From my understanding one of the updates broke the LTE symbol so it doesnt show anymore. Mine never says it and I live in an LTE Att area.
