How does this phone compare to say... - Xiaomi Redmi 3 Questions & Answers

Say the http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/xperia-z5-compact/?
I already ordered this the Xaomi 3 Pro and i'm super excited about the battery life now that i'm doing way more mobile games. Curious about the screen, the feel of the phone and just the price wow.
But i'm currently using the Z5 compact and i'm also somewhat satisfied with that. Espialli the pictures!
Is there anyone who knows both devices?
I mean i understand ill be trading in some high specs, but can anyone tell me by how much?

Totally different devices. Redmi 3 (any version) is budget device while Z5 (also compact) is premium model. Not comparable

I stand behind my answer. Redmi 3 is not bad device, but it is budget device in all aspects. Not comparable with Z line from Sony

Man, as others are saying R3 isn't comparable to Z5 Compact. R3 is budget friendly offering, while Z5 compact is high-end.
If you still wanna compare, let's see.
SoC - R3 Pro has SD616, while Z5 C has SD810. You know, 800 series of SD is high-end, while 600 is mid-end. Both are octa-cores, but Z5 has four A53 & four A57, while R3 Pro has all A53s. Also, clockspeed is low in R3 Pro.
RAM - R3 Pro has 3GB, but Z5 has 2GB. R3 won. Doesn't matter unless you do hard multi-tasking.
GPU - Adreno 430 in Z5, Adreno 405 in R3. Slightly better in case of Z5.
Camera - Z5 has a lot better camera. Although specs may seem same, but quality is better in Z5.

Thank you for taking the time to respond! I realize that the Sony is better in almost every way, but what i'm honestly looking for is someone who has experienced both? The sony, owning it myself is not in my eyes a flagship, its above average. Sure it has a 820, but the most current fw is not the fastest it could be, this compared to my girlfriends Wileyswift Fox, a uk based phone maker, also a great value/cost device in my mind.
Camera, sure it takes great photos, but its sluggish in starting up, or taking rapid photos. And i'm not a big photo maker anyhow, occasional photo of my nieces or my dog or my girlfriend. So I don't really need THE GREATEST photos. You know?
So in that sense i'm very curious about this phone. If its comparable to the Fox one i'm going to be damn excited coupled with the 4100 battery. I am playing more games lately and i have been needing a powerbank. So thats would be a big up for me. How is the heat when it charges does anyone know?
Also curious about ROM support. From what i have read there appears to be some good support seeing as this is out longer then the 3S Pro. Only really read up on that device AFTER ordering the 3 Pro. Anyhow, couple of roms that I noticed were looking good.
About the GPU, how much is the Sony better? I maily do 2d games and have yet to find a 3d one that will make me comftorbale with touch input. I did also order a gamepad for phones, but that will be maily used for emulators and the like.
Thanks for all the input.

All say redmi is budget.
I'd be happy with the redmi over any other phone to be honest not even taking price into consideration.
As far as hardware for money it is OP
As far as android it self, it may not be perfect but it's damn near close.
Almost bought a galaxy edge, but now I don't have a reason too.

It looks like redmi 3s is waterproof too http://youtu.be/s1i9R8qoD9U
Sent from my ehmm... well... phone with xdw... cda... err... well I sent it, okay?

About all the stuff you've written and asked, I would like to answer it in simple way -
You won't notice any much performance difference between the two phones. Forget SoC, forget RAM. If you need better camera go for Xperia Z5 P, if you need just a camera which takes grainy and noisy pictures indoors, go for Redmi 3 Pro. You can see, my only concern is camera. But wait, MIUI seems terrible to some users, some love it. While Xperia's UI is admired my many users, as it's closer to stock. Well, you're on XDA, so you might install a custom ROM. I hope, you got the idea. BTW, if I was you I would not spend 320$~ on Z5, as it really is overpriced. You can easily get Oneplus 3 or G4 Plus by adding more amount, if you don't care about big screen.

I've recently owned the z5c, z3c, lg g3, moto x play, z3 and now the redmi 3 pro. I prefer the redmi 3 pro. It's great value, performs well, has good mic and sound, amazing battery life, and runs very smooth. Not running marshmallow but it suits my needs. Runs everything perfectly. Provided it supports the band you need i don't think others are worth the excessive price. Z5c was not performing well, had poor battery life, and my call audio echoes. The only gripe with the r3p is the camera isn't the best.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra/GPE vs ZTE Nubia X6-What do you think?

As an avid user of the XZU, I have been frustrated with the lack of a flash on he XZU and today I read the news that the ZTE Nubia X6 is finally available. Whilst I love using my XZU with the GPe ROM, I find it really annoying to see the camera ruin my pictures in low light. On the other hand, the ZTE Nubia X6 appears to be everything I ever wanted from a phone/XZU. It has the following key features;
-6.44" Full HD Display
-Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AB Quad Core 2.3GHz and 2 Other variants available as Options
-2-3GB RAM Depending on the model selected -3 models available
-32-128GB Internal Memory
-MicroSD Slot [Still trying to confirm-I really hope it is correct]
-13Mp Front and 13Mp Rear Camera with DUAL FLASH
-Dual Stereo Dolby Optimised Speakers
-DUAL SIM with Dual Standby
-HDMI Port
-4250mAh Battery and Removable Battery Cover (I guess NO waterproofing)

The more I read about this phone , the more I get excited. So what do you think? Is it time we shop around or wait and see what Sony has in store with the XZU 2 in September or ditch all and perhaps look at Samsung Galaxy Note 4?
Also, could one of our XDA-Dev forum users confirm for sure if the LTE bands used are Europe compatible or not? I am getting conflicting information so any confirmation from Chinese speaking users would be even more welcome. Thanks and enjoy the conversation!
The specs looks okay, but I won't think about buying anything until I see the ZU2 (if it exists), and if it gets released this summer, I'm not sure if I want to get it. The Ultra is still a top speced device, so a tiny boost in GHz and RAM won't impress me at all this time.
- Last year: We went from S600 to S800 in flagships. Huge boost. 1080p also got widespread in flagships.
- This year: We've gone from S800 to S805. Minimal boost. 1080p is still the norm. An extra gig of RAM if you're lucky.
- Next year: We'll go from S805 to S810. Huge boost. 64bit. Adreno 430. We'll most likely see more of the QHD (2560x1440) displays.
that certainly looks like a very nice looking phone...
china-only, at this point it seems.... however the question is, how easy will dev support be with this? custom roms, etc..

The only thing that I see is a huge noticeable difference is the camera. Probably won't feel the difference in ram and CPU. I agree with others hold out.
I would not replace the Ultra because of the camera. A better option is to get a Sony DSC-QX10 or QX100 of the simple reason that they deliver VERY decent pictures. I am very happy with my QX10 and it got me completely "over" the lusting for a device with a "better" camera.
As it is today, I would not replace the Ultra with another device since the most interesting development will be the Snapdragon 810 - I don't think we will see it before Ultra 3 (I would guess the Ultra 2 will have the 805 considering the timing).
A QX10 and a new 128 GB microSDXC card and you are all set.:victory:

And let's not forget that if you get the QX10 now, you can also use it with a different phone down the road, so you'll always have a great camera.

The QX-100 is an amazing product.
More info here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513999
No LTE 800. That's a deal breaker for me as it's a common used band in Sweden.
I had a good look at the QX devices as the poor camera on the Z Ultra is really my only complaint with it however I don't see the devices as alternatives to a decent onboard camera. The problem for me is that they're nowhere near portable enough to function in that role, I prefer to take the RX100 which isn't much larger in practical terms (it still needs a separate pocket as would the QX devices) but the RX100 has the advantage of being much quicker to use. The reason I like having the camera on the phone even with much better quality alternatives is that I pretty much always have the phone in my pocket making its camera handy to catch unexpected moments when I don't have a proper camera on me.
I have my doubts about the ZTE though and still hoping Sony will produce a similar device to the Ultra but with a usable camera.
The Sony supports more 3G and 4G bands. I don't think the ZTE, even its LTE variant, will support LTE from AT&T or T-Mobile. The Sony C6806 and C6806 GPe will work on every band that T-Mobile currently uses.
Also, won't come with Google whatsoever...

[Q] This or the HTC One?

Hello,
I would appreciate an honest opinion, should I get this or the HTC One?
What I like about the One: It's loudspeakers, I need a really loud ringtone otherwise I can't hear it.
What I like about the Z Ultra: It's big screen and design
So which one it the most supported by the community software (ROMS, recoveries, kernels,etc..) wise?
People that own(ed) both are welcome.
Both support is enough good as quality, but sony has a little better supoort.
Mention z ultra support will end after 7months and new htc one has 2 years support support. Im appropriated with my z ultra sound loudless.
I had the same question myself, 10 months ago.
1. Do you want a PHONE, or do you want a PHABLET?
2. What are you planning to do with "it"? Watch TV shows, play games and read? Or maybe you'll only use it as a phone, and maybe take a couple of photos?
- The HTC One has a Snapdragon 600 and an Adreno 320 GPU, while the Ultra has the 800 and Adreno 330. The Ultra will be more powerful and play games and stuff better. 800 also support " always on mic", so you'll have the choice to use the Ultra like a Moto X when Android L gets released (that will be one of the new features if I recall correctly)
- The One will take better pictures. That's that.
- Something tells me that the Ultra has better battery life. I could (10 months ago) get around 7-8 hours of screen time if I really wanted. I get around 5 hours of screen time today, which is still good. It can survive several days on standby. I'm not sure how good the One's battery is, but something tells me that it'll get around 4, maybe 5 hours of screen time on a single charge?
- 4.7" Vs 6.4". Both displays are good. The One will have some deeper blacks and better contrast, but both are very good.
- Build quality. Glass and aluminum Vs pure aluminum. You can't go wrong either way. The One will probably survive a drop a lot better.
- Size. You'll get used to it, but it's easier to live with a smaller device, but a bigger device is better at a lot of things. Try surfing the web on 6.4", and then do the same on 4". It's not possible [emoji4]
I guess that's pretty much it.
Thanks for the replies, I guess I'll go with the Xperia then.
One last thing, do the stock earphones bumbled with the Xperia Ultra have a mic?
^yes they do.

An honest reply, please: How good is this phone?

I recently got to try one out. I loved its look and build. UI's pretty smooth. Display's really good, a major improvement from previous Z iterations. However, 5-10 minutes of tinkering isn't sufficient enough to get a good idea. So, do tell me: How good is this phone? In particular, how's the battery life? Are there any issues with overheating? I look forward to an honest reply.
I love it. My biggest issue is that the touch screen is too sensitive to sweat, and on a hot day the phone can make my hands sweat pretty bad! Battery life is totally amazing. I came from the Nexus 5 (which had better battery life then the N4)

This year I've owned the Nexus5, LG G3, M8 and the Z2. I would say for best all round performance and features the Z2 is the best flagship. The M8 is a close second but it has a poor camera. The Z2 is smooth and fast, has a good large long lasting battery, a good camera and a great adjustable crisp display. There is overheating when using the 4k video recording after around 10-20min but not in normal use for me. Its not perfect but its the best I've used this year.

I prefer the design of the G3 to the Z2.
Its only my personal opinion but I find the G3 to be laggy and the frame rate during animations to be low. My G3 also overheated and I had to get a replacement. I think the software and hardware is buggy. I believe the S801 is not up to producing the QHD display and it needs the power of an S805. After 2 weeks of use I returned my G3.
The Z2 uses almost the same GPU and CPU as the G3 (2.3Ghz Vs 2.5Ghz CPU same GPU) but only has to render 1080 so is faster and smoother. The G3 also thermal throttled a lot in my experience which made the performance worse.Battery life is also better on the Z2.
I should say ive only been using the Z2 for a week so problems may come later.

The G3 might get great software updates, it might not. The Note 4 and Nexus 6 will probably be released in a few months also and I'm sure they will be great also. Its really up to you.

(Hot) & Sexy Phone
Hello,
Its been around 2 Months with this phone,
I am a die hard fan of Sony.
My feedback on this phone is....
-> Its amazingly Fast
-> Battery lasts for around 1.5 days of very heavy usage.
-> Sound Quality from Speakers - Not much loud - Not much low. - 50% 50%
-> Camera - Most of the time it produces great images, but sometimes I fail to understand what went wrong.
-> Screen is gorgeous, can't take my eyes away.
-> Overall design of the phone is - as usual - Fantastic, very sexy look.
I have only 2 problem with this phone.
-> Outside in the sun, Camera shuts off even while taking normal snaps - Heating Problem
-> Extra sensitive screen, it records touch of almost everything, although its nice but sometimes it creates problems.
Do any one compare Sony Xperia Z2 & Samsung Galaxy S5 G900F ?
My last 3 phones were the Note 3, Find7a, and Z2. I gave the Note3 to the wife, sold the Find7a, and rock the Z2. I am a fan of >5.5" screens so I'm sacrificing a little with the Z2 there but it has enough of the "complete package" for me. There is no perfect phone on the market imo currently. I'd like a 5.7" waterproof Nexus with a microSD card but they don't make those soo...
You want a honest reply ?
Okay. The phone is great indeed!
Although the speakerphone is low. Microphone is low too. I have to shout when I send voice messages thru WhatsApp.
Just buy
An Honest reply : this phone is cursed! always stuck at my hand wherever i go. I cant seem to let it go. It's a curse! save yourself! I cant divert my eyes! Help Me!... arggghhhh!!
seriously, this phone is amazing, battery life? I'm not constantly worries about charging anymore. I can play ingress for 3-4 hours and still got juice left. RECOMMENDED

As an HTC Fanboy who has also been able to use all of these mention phones, as well as the OnePlus One, iPhone 5S and Galaxy S5 (I work in telecommunications so i didn't own all of these phones, but I did get to use them all for at least 3 weeks) i have to agree with this statement.
Here's what Ive discovered about both the Z2 and M8: Both phones can be argued to be the best phones. Having 2 kids and taking most my pictures both in doors and poor lighting, I actually prefer the faster shutter speed of the HTC M8. I don't take macro shots of flowers, however I know many people do this as well as landscapes. (also in HTCs favor is the much much bigger development communitry) But that's beside the point. The M8 and Z2 are the 2 best phones available at the moment and then there is a HUGE, disparaging drop off between these 2 phones and the 3rd and 4th best phones (the OnePlus and LG G3).
So what sets these 2 phones apart from the rest of the 800 class snapdragon phones? Software. Sony, HTC and Motorola (but they don't count because technically their flagship is midrange) are so far a head of the competition that i have to say i have never seen such a disparity between what I consider tier 1 and tier 2 phones.
But I think the Z2 is the phone of the year over the M8 by just a hair, because despite the M8 having the better software of the 2, Sony's is good enough that most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Actually most people wouldn't appreciate the snappiness of the M8. So the Z2 wins out in my opinion due to the superior hardware with the extra RAM, MPs, dedicated camera button, etc. The first 2 devices I tried this year were the Z2 and M8. And now at the end of the Spring releases, here I am back with the Z2 as my personal phone and the M8 as my work phone. And I couldn't be happier. I can tell you I definitely appreciate the Z2 and M8 so very much more now that I've used the S5, 5s, OnePlus, and G3.
You'd be crazy not to take either of these phones. But if you have a choice, grab the Z2. It's the more exciting of the 2.
Really want to get this phone but camera overheat issue in sunlight is worrying me a little.
If it overheats only while recording 4K videos then i don't care, but if it does so while taking Auto mode 8MP snaps as well then it is a big turn off.

Agreed, the Z2 and M8 aren't perfect but they're the best phones of the year so far by quite a long way.
As not fanboy but realist I can say after many sony phones (j70, z5, z7, xperia: S, Z, Z1, Z Ultra) z2 is really good phone with premium finish and ultra stability ...stereo speakers, lovely display, amazing headphone hole and pretty good camera make this phone almost perfect ...paired with smartwatch sw2 and few other things (sbh20 sbh80 mbh10 qed uplay and kef m200) and connected to smart house system z2 can become part of you ...not as before with other phones I can't say nothing bad about it

Finally, a rival to the XZU - the Huawei Mediapad X2

This is lovely; I like it a lot.I wonder what the price will be though for each version?
Very interesting indeed!
I decided the Z3 tablet is a bit much for me as a phone but this one could be the one if it gets any dev behind it and a good screen of course.
Agreed about whether a hacker community forms around it.
Before I buy a device, I check XDA and Modaco to see whether anyone else is working on it.
Hmmm, the SoC used has a Mali GPU, but I don't know anything about the CPU
quote
Mediapad X2 boasts an "ultra" octa-core, 64-bit Kirin 930 chipset clocked in at 2.0Ghz
The development for Huawei are pathetic at best.. I have ascend mate 1 & 2. Benchmarks are ok but real life use is pretty laggy. I gave up on the company. Look at their flagship, the mate 7. It's out for a while but there's still no custom rom if I am not wrong..
For me there is more to XZU than just the screen size, be it the extra sensitivity or the looks, on these grounds we should rather wait for the real successor sony is supposedly working on

Agree:good:
I am open to other manufacturers working on 7-8 inch devices but in order to be a viable replacement, some things are necessary:
1. Snapdragon 810 or 820
2. 3-4 GB RAM
3. 32-128 GB internal storage
4. MicroSDXC slot
5. 6.5-8 inch display with 2K resolution or higher
6. Vanilla Android or a lightly skinned version (Sony or Motorola style)
7. Developer friendliness with decent ROM support
8. Adequate camera (12 MP is perfectly fine)
9. Support for an external camera module (DSC-QX10 et al)
It would be great with a keyboard flipcover accessory as well.
A device without microSD slot and a lack of ROMs would fail to replace the Ultra in a proper way. The same goes for heavily skinned Android implementations or a lack of hardware standardization (a lot of different ROM incompatible versions).
The Huawei MediaPad X2 could be a "replacement" provided decent ROM support and similar LTE bands as the Ultra but I am not sure about those things.
I am quite sure that a viable "replacement" to the Ultra will be either a Sony device or something from a Chinese manufacturer. I still hope for an Oppo or Xiaomi since I think it is those two companies that would be able to actually tick the boxes properly if Sony would let us down with a Z4 Ultra. Similar hardware as the new Z4 Tablet would be great.
For me it's about manageability and think my Zu is just about manageable in the hand. I am aware others see it as a bit of a freak when they consider what's acceptable as their phone/daily driver but I like that it blurs the line of whats acceptable as a phone or tablet and I like that for me it's both...The Zu is my phone when I need to make calls text etc add to that the convenience of probably the best Web browsing experience on any device I have ever used with phone capability, decent battery, powerful innards, then let me at it-i say!!
Let the naysayers nay.
However the Huawei pad while spec wise is great it just seems to push that boundary of what I would consider manageable as a Phone.
I enjoy the tall slender ergonomics of the Zu but the Huawei just looks too wide and tablet-y for what I would consider manageable...I do like the smaller bezels tho
Less than a quarter inch taller and half inch wider, has an sd slot and the processor is supposed to be 16 nm die size similar to Apple.A9 chip.

Lol, you just reminded me. Several days back I was ordering a Chicken Twister Meal from some fast food restaurant called SFC (Southern Fried Chicken) .
Anyway I placed my order and took a seat since it needed time to prepare. Wife calls and I answer and we start chatting...
I noticed the two Filipino women who took my order were both whispering to each other whilst looking at me and were laughing...
Needless to say I know exactly why they were laughing. They saw me speaking on such a huge phone which wasn't normal for them
and it really made them laugh...
I didn't give a $hit and continued. Other times whilst on the phone, I've had looks/hard stares and in some cases women approach me and ask what phone I have, model and size. There have been many stares especially when taking the phone out my pocket whilst on the train. Half the cabin are staring wondering what phone you have and shocked at it's huge size.
When people do give funny looks I couldn't care less especially because of another thing I saw. On several occasions, I've even seen people talking on 8-10" tablets!!! They were not using earphones, the phone was on their ear, now that looks a lot funnier than my 6.4" Xperia Z Ultra...

Indeed I prefer the x2 as well. I mean, if I am moving from the Ultra I rather do it to a bigger phone but not so sure about the chipset of the x2. I wish it was the Snapdragon 810.
Also, on the ZTE, well, it is the same size as my Ultra so the only way for me to upgrade would be if it was some better looking screen (darker blacks etc) and replaceable batteries. I guess I am happy enough with the Ultra that I can be picky
I don't trust these chinese manufactures.
It will be stuck on the same Android Version for ages, with next to no development.
I have had both the Huawei Ascend Mate7 with an Octa Core Kirin 925 @1.8GHz and the Huawei MediaPad X1 with a Quad Core VR91 @1.6GHz.
The X1 was just too slow and laggy but other than that it was a great device. It looks very nice and build quality was comparable to an iPhone 5 or 6. Of course it's big but I used it as a phone and had no issues with it.
The Mate7 was too small for my taste but performance wise I had no issues. It was comparable to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in that regard.
The MediaPad X2 uses a Kirin 930 @2.0GHz and has Lollipop so I have no doubt it will not be a laggy device.
With regard to ROMs, if you install another launcher the Huawei software is bearable. It's not like TouchWiz. I am looking forward to getting the X2 and if it can be rooted I think I will be satisfied. Hopefully Huawei will come out with a proper European version without the Chinese stuff on it.

Have been tracking this device (x6 with 3GB RAM & 128gb) at least for the past 6-7 months as I was getting restless for new phone (I change phones every 3 months). Since there was no release date on sight, I sold my XZU, bought Lumia 1520 but found it small for my taste (But loved Windows OS; one for future if they launch with 6.2+ screen size) so sold it off after 1 month and re bought XZU again!
Have been tracking this phone in below website where the Customer care is promising launch dates (3GB+128gb) but nothing has been done in almost 6 months.
http://www.nubiamobileshop.com/nubi...pdragon-801-2gb-32gb-13-0mp-camera-white.html
However, if it launches for around $400 (which is not going to happen as 2gb version is around $450 and 3gb one will around $700), I would definitely look into it as Mediapad X2 looks too wide and will be difficult to hold.
Definitely interested in this device, but I wonder what the price will be. Hard to compete with the Ultra since it can be had for less than 300.
ZTE Nubia X6
Snapdragon 801
6,44" fullhd display
3 gb ram
32 / 64 / 128 gb
lte, bluetooth 4.0, nfc, wi-fi abgn, infrared
4500 mah battery

i well buy it with second hands.
For me it's a really good bargain for its price.
Good hardware, & a lot of devs, -> incredible rom choice
Last OOS 3 are good too.
For battery life, depends on usage.

Unless you're getting it at a really cheap price, I'd suggest you look at something newer. The SD801 is full 2 generations old. There's most probably going to be at least some noticeable performance difference even with the current gen mid-range offerings with SD650/652 (all other factors like skinned UI, bloat, etc. being equal).
Plus Nougat has already been released, but no SD800/801 device will be getting it; they can only go upto MM. So OOS 3 is officially the end of the line for this device.
Having said that, I'm plenty satisfied with the device personally.
So you'll have to weigh what would be better for you

The only area where the other phones you've listed surpass the OPX is the camera. And the screen size to a small extent, in case of the 5.2" Xperia Z2. Other than that, OPX should be good.

what about battery life i'm gamer specially the game with 60fps; in the test of gsmarena the battery life is really bad (54 hrs) before i have z3 compact (101 hrs) and he's nice so the battery life on OPX is bad is that true? and i don't like the biggest size like z2 1+1 and i hope the OPX is good in one hand

I find the OPX pretty comfortable to use with just one hand. And battery averages around 5hrs SOT for me, but I don't play games, so it may vary for you. My usage includes watching a lot of videos, and quite a lot of browsing.

I love my OPX! Sexy AF. I'm actually on the lookout for a second one. LMK if you find one for a decent price
I don't have huge hands, so this size of device is perfect for me. I like the fact that OnePlus caters to rooting and custom ROM's because I like to tinker.
- Battery: I was a little off-put by the battery life at first, but then I realized it was the OOS ROM. I moved to RR, and now I get over well over a day without having to charge. When its less than that, I know its some app messing with my life.
- ROM: go with CM13
- Camera: use Sultans HAL mod; I've never had any complaints with the picture or video quality
- Multitasking: the 3 GB RAM has always been more than enough for me
- OTG: a bit finicky, but it may have been the native app or my adapter. I use MiXplorer now and it works a charm
- I love the display. I have DPI set at 400 and black theme everywhere.
Other points:
- wireless charging would be nice, but for the price I'm not complaining!
- the tri-state notifications button is pretty useful.
IMHO this phone is by far the best in its class - I have owned a lot of phones. Now when I find myself considering a new phone, I compare it to my OPX and it doesn't come close.
I've had a few mishaps with it; but always been able to repair it.
cheers!
