I have a problem with my X, there is an inusual battery use by the "Android OS" app listed
on the battery use screen, about the 30% of the total.
Using "CPU Spy" I see that there is no deep sleep.
I tried to flash the last original firmware with "Xperia Companion" and then did a factory reset
to start really clean, but nothing appears to change.
Any ideas?

Hi,
forget all about Xperia Companion, it's of no use at all for several reasons:
1. It does not synchronize your contacts, calendar, etc. Use MyPhoneExplorer for that, available from the app store
2. I have had the nasty experience after a crash of my X, that restoring backups won't work and always give an error sooner or later in the restore process. Use Backup Your Mobile Device instead, also available from the app store. Both apps are free. You can backup your device to Google Drive, Dropbox, One Drive or Orange Cloud.
Regarding your problem: When everything is OK, you will receive on your mobile device a message that a system update is availble and that you can install it. Before doing that, connect your device via USB with your PC/Laptop and start the system update. This takes about 30-45 minutes depending on the content on your device. If you do not get the system update message on your device, go to settings -info about the device - software update and click that.
kindest regards, kuzibri
BTW, just updated my own X just two days ago in this way.

The flashing was not a problem, was perfect and I have the latest version of firmware installed perfectly.
My problem is excessive consumption of battery by the Android OS and that the device never comes into deep sleep.

There are a lot of battery saving apps in the store, but I would advice you to use the Stamina mode for your device. To activate that, go to setings -battery - Stamina modus - click it and activate it. After activating this, you will receive a message that background apps or other processes will run slower. Ignore that, cause it's not true. This warning comes only with Marsmallow, other Android systems before that never gave that message and encouraged you to use the Stamina modus. You can also dowload Powerclean from the app store, this app does clean junk files from your device but has also the possibilty to download a seperate battery saving app. Both apps will be displayed in your notification bar.

You wont need to unlock your bootloader. Using flashtools has no drawbacks, it's works almost the same as the repair option in xperia companion but flash tool has a lot of extra options

Great! Thanks for your answer!
When you unlock bootloader, the device cleans everything? Is there an alternative to titanium backup that doesn't need root?

Anyone else with extremely picky fingerprint? Only when I wash my hands with soap thoroughly, wipe them, clean the sensor with a tissue, only then it SOMETIMES recognizes fingerprints...
"your finger may be damp" and if this message appears 5 times consecutively fingerprint recognition stops....awful experience

Yes it will whipe your data(dont forget to backup your TA). I'm not aware of a backup tool that completly backs up your data without root.

First flashing steps..specific questions inside. Need help. Thanks

Hello!
So here I go...first trying to root so I need to go back to 532 BUT I cant find one for the C6802 and USA. Even the one in the link that says TW is a dead link.
Wondering if flashing the [STOCK ROM] [FTF] Xperia Z Ultra (C6806) 14.1.B.1.532 "US Retail" is a bad idea.
I am sure I will have more Qs after this one but this one already got me stuck right off the bat :crying:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2453921&highlight=c6802
PS I found one for HK C6802_14.1.B.1.532_HK.ftf maybe that works?
Yo!
It doesn't really matter which version you pick. It'll work as usual. And yes, the HK version will work fine, but it might boot up with chinese language. I'm not really sure. Or you can flash the european version for the C6833.
Ok I also downloaded the C6806 US version but I can use that C6833 European version if you think is a better idea.
I think I can try what I have no harm done, then try another one if that one did not work fine. Right?

Yeah, whatever you feel like doing You're only downgrading to root, so after you've changed the CDA and gottten the OTA update, you'll end up with a german firmware (unless you find a different CDA that has OTA). Either way, just do whatever you want. If it doesn't boot or the ROM is wonky, it'll only take you a couple of mintues to flash a different ROM.
Ok so finally ready to try the firmware. I see stuff like Partition, TA etc on the flash tool. I dont see anything instructions to check any of those so I assume I am good to go, right?
Also, when setting the phone in flashmode there is no icon to indicate you are in that mode?
If I understood correctly the whole back up TA thing or you will lose it only happens if I unlock the bootloader so I think I am fine not checking any of those option to exclude but better safe than sorry.

Don't worry about your TA partition unless you're going to unlock the bootloader. It's safe, and flashtool won't and can't delete it. The only options you might be interested in is wiping of data, appdata etc. so untick those if you don't want to delete everything on your phone (but it's brand new, so my guess is that you don't have that much on it right now)
There are no icons or any signs when you're in flash mode. Flashtool will tell you that you're connected through flashmode and that's that
What happens if you lose your TA partition? I never backed it up as I had no root and I did do a bootloader unlock via Sony site.

Thanks. mmm having issues with not installing the drivers.
Gonna try restarting. Still wont install drivers when I tried flashmode...all I see is the S1 Service with the yellow warning icon under Device Manager. Tried with the drivers from the Flashtool folder and nothing. :/

Are you running Win7 or Win8? Win8 has some issues with installing drivers if i remember correctly, and you have to disable "something something drivers", or boot up in safe mode or something. I'm not sure as you can clearly tell

Oh yes, I did the whole guide, Survival mode, OTA keeper and I am on 257 and rooted! Plus just finished the TA back up so only need to unlock bootloader and I am in business!
Nice! To unlock the bootloader, just go to Sony's Dev site and request your unlock keey. Then use flashtool to unlock it. Note that unlocking the bootloader might wipe some stuff (again), and if you can't find the root app when you power it on again, don't freak out
I'm off to bed, so you're on your own now

Ok so I got it unlocked and recovery has been installed. Do I have to now restore the TA? I ask as from I understood, we backed it up because it gets wiped out during the unlock thus logical step would be to restore now.

How to remove malware? (apk downloading automatically)

Hey guys,
A few days ago, I visited some site on chrome (on my RN3) and it opened a popup. I must've accidentally clicked on it or something and now there is a persistent automatic download of an apk file. It always gets stuck at 100% but the download never finishes. Maybe Chrome or MIUI8 is not allowing it to finish the download.
Since it's always stuck at 100% download, there is a PERSISTENT Chrome notification, which is VERY VERY ANNOYING!
Here's how it looks...

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
That notification NEVER goes away. It's clearly malware as I can't stop the download and no matter how many times I clear history (delete everything) in chrome, it always shows back up. I have also installed ESET antivirus and started a free trail, but even after a full system scan, it doesn't find anything. I am currently on Global Stable MIUI 8.0.6.0.
Please help me in getting rid of this completely. Any help in this regards would be highly appreciated.
Thanx a lot in advance. Desperately waiting for a reply
Sorry for your problem, as you've tried everything I would recommend to do, I think, maybe you've an app installed which is causing it.
BTW, which theme you're using? It's great.

Actually it's not being "triggered" by something. It happens when you don't choose the "save" or "cancel" option while downloading from Chrome. Nothing to worry about. Just be cautious while browsing.

It is being triggered bro. I clear my history in Chrome, use the Security App to clear trash, restart phone, and the download starts automatically as soon as the phone boots up, even without me going into chrome.
Edit: Alright, I got the issue solved. One of the members on the official MIUI forums suggested this...
Settings > Installed apps > long press on Chrome > clear data > reboot
This somehow removed the "trigger" and now after rebooting the phone, the apk stopped downloading automatically.
Now, I have another query. I want to install AdAway and that needs root access. I already have my bootloader unlocked officially.
The reason I am not rooting my phone is because I do not want to lose out on OTA updates. Is there a way to retain OTA updates and still have root access?

Install zcx recovery. You'll have to re-flash full recovery ROM for once to be able to flash OTA updates. This recovery automatically creates a backup of unmodified system and boot images and applies OTA updates normally.

Okay, I just rooted my phone. Literally took five mins. I got SuperSU installed and the first thing I installed was AdAway.
As of right now, there are no OTAs available. And to enable OTAs, I need to download the full stock rom (Global Stable MIUI 8.0.6.0.) and flash it???
I have to do that once and after that OTAs will install as usual?
Guys, is it mandatory to flash full stock rom (Global Stable MIUI 8.0.6.0.)?
Edit: Done and Done. Followed the guide to the T and everything worked out PERFECTLY! Now waiting for OTAs
Thanx a lot for all the help guys. Really appreciate the effort

What rom do you currently have installed? You must flash the china dev/beta rom, then make sure to enable the OEM unlock option. You then need to boot into fastboot, you should see the fastboot screen as on the phone in the vid below.
https://youtu.be/E-bWR-8EEYU?t=53
You can also log onto the i.mi.com site and log into your mi account and try to locate your device as in the video below.

Yes it will wipe everything so definitely backup, i think you can use the built in mi backup to backup apps/some data, then backup that file to a pc.
Use the SP flash tool to flash the china dev rom and stay on this rom to carry out the bootloader unlock. Once unlocked you can then flash whatever you like or install twrp and again flash what you want, you will stay unlocked.

Yep exactly what he said, btw the Mi Mover app (available from Play Store & install on both devices) works both ways so old phone - new phone & vice versa so you can use that or the MIUI backup.

Either way you need to do it achieves the same thing.

OTA Update Failed

Please help me understand what went wrong and a solution will really be appreciated. I recently flashed using this after being on Resurrection ROM. And i did so because i had a mega battery problem and wanted to see if either will solve the problem. My phone is still semi-usable and i need to keep it connected to a charger if i do intend to use it while preventing it from shutting itself down because of the battery problem.

For the battery: go back to that battery thread @Vcek posted a method to help the battery problem. I thanked him 2 posts above your post.
As for your current issue, I'm not sure. Try a non-blur stock factory image or try RR again would be my guess.

What phone do you have?
Was the reflash successful? This ota update was automatic or sideloaded?
Tapatalkkal küldve az én XT1650 eszközömről

Moto Z. I updated it directly, not sideloaded.
The re-flash was successful but somehow OTA don't work.
I'm not sure if the phone battery problem is genuine or just a software bug. I really wish someone would up a link of a firmware to be re-lock and flash the phone to stock.

The method you linked (and presumably did) contains exactly this. A firmware you can relock your phone with.
Are you sure that you downloaded the full ~2,3GB? Wasn't any error during the reflash?
It was working on a reteu XT1650-03 without issues.

I downloaded it twice for it failed the first time. I believe it's the correct version.
Whenever i tried re-locking using fastboot oem lock command i get the message that i need to Allow OEM Unlocking under Developer Option. But weirdly that option is greyed out on the phone.

You should ask in the other thread, my phone is unrooted, locked, reflashed only to get better battery life.

From: @Vcek
I read somewhere here on the forums the instructions for resetting battery stats for Moto Z :
Hold power button until screen turns off
Enter bootloader by holding vol down
Turn off phone and keep it in the charger for 1-2 hours AFTER it reach 100%
Can anyone with a horrible battery life try this and tell us if there's any difference, because I couldn't tell if I was getting better battery

General Root seems to be broken on December update / don't flash until it's solved

There is some talk in the P6 race to brick Telegram group, it seems that the december update is causing root to fail.
So until this is fixed/solved, DO NOT UPDATE IF YOU WANT TO RETAIN ROOT.

He is working for the enemy now, was only a matter of time for problems to arise since he already stopped supporting MagiskHide at the behest of Google^^
Maybe Magisk just needs an update, maybe we have a bigger problem, we'll see
Nah, he'll find root or another Magisk developer will.
Cant we flash a patched stock boot image after the problem is solved?
As OP stated, do not update to December if you want to keep root. I did before I checked forums and lost root. Rolling back to November to hopefully regain access to root.

Please report back if its possible to roll back
I don't see any update when I check for update on my Pixel 6.
Do I need to something to get the update? I ma not rooted and hence do not worry about rooting.

Tread carefully, someone tried dirty flashing which then required a clean flash.

Yup, dirty flashed failed and requiring a clean flash. Good learning experience and lesson for me, don't jump the gun with the newest updates.
Assumptions made when I flashed December update on 4A 5G without any problems... c'est la vie.

You'll likely have to use the Google reset to factory process to ever use the phone again. I haven't rooted my Pixel 6 yet, though, so I can't confirm. But that's how I fixed a bad Pixel 5 update.

Google Pixel - Update and Software Repair
Need a USB cable and Chrome (I think, never used a different browser for it).
Again, I can't confirm this works but it's just an educated guess

just try it, only work up to google 5
Okay, so for anyone else here who tries to root using the December patch and gets stuck on the Google logo screen, here are the steps I took to fix it:
1. Hold down the power button until the phone turns off
2. Enter fastboot via holding down the power button and volume down
3. Attach a usb cable to a computer, download the factory image zip, then extract it
4. Once extracted, double click on "flash-all.bat," this will reflash every single component of the image to your phone and once it's done, will reboot and should boot as if nothing ever happened.
