[SOLVED] "transfer cable" for restore accounts/data - Google Pixel Accessories

Hi there,
A new feature I was looking forward to was the ability to transfer the accounts/data from my old phone to my new Pixel.
However, The packaged USB Standard-A female adaptor to USB-C plug DID NOT WORK with my original Nexus 5 USB Standard-A male plug to MicroUSB.
One of the other restore options worked fine, but I got a warning when I tried the cable method a few times with my old cable.
Cheers, nerB

Probably means copying from Nexus 6 to the pixel. N6 has microusb. The 5x and 6p were the first with usb C.

Try a newer wire. After THREE YEARS, that original nexus 5 wire is surely worn, and the data wires in the cable are a lot thinner than the power wires, so it is common to lose data capability before you lose charging.

Thanks.
Has anyone with an N5 used a cable to transfer data?
Doesn't really matter though.

yeah, i was looking forward to the easy transfer too, and i was disappointed.
i tried using it to transfer data from my old Razr HD running CyanogenMod and bad things happened. at about 10% done it said it failed and that it had copied "some of my data". after that, i got a couple System UI crashes and random other crashes to media service.
ended up just doing it old school with root and titanium backup.

Yeah, so did I. There was no effort besides trying to resecure the cable once or twice and try again. If it simply worked as it might have, would have been quite easily...far equally easy!

I used the adapter and the micro-USB cable from my NVIDIA Shield Tablet. Transfer worked fine from my N5->Pixel.
I did get a "Are you sure it's plugged in?" message on the Pixel when I plugged the adapter into the Pixel before the N5, but saying "Try again" worked. So clearly not 100% reliable, but it does work in some cases.

Thanks for the link. I'm more concerned that I should have gone for a higher quality HDMI since I got a 10 footer that is a lesser quality cable then they suggest under the adapters description. Oh well, I have plenty of other short ones should I need to pony up more cash for a better cable later. Their prices are so cheap I can afford the $5 for a cable I'm sure I'll use one day.

uh, note that this one doesn't include a usb cable for power - so if this is for long term it won't work well. For short term/showing stuff, etc, it should work quite well.
However, it is a lot cheaper than the one with USB and hdmi - which is like $30.

It has a micro usb port on the side so you can go out from there to charge, just not with the cable that came with the Rez. If you follow my link above where this adapter was previously discussed you can read a couple ways people are using this.

The phone's port is used by the adapter itself and the port on the adapter is a regular micro usb. You need to use that to keep the charge coming in to the phone. The Rezound has a extMicro or whatever it's called so it's a different shape and won't fit into the micro usb port on the adapter.
I believe that will work. Micro goes into the adapter and the A male goes into the charge adapter plug.
Check out the thread in the link I posted above, people have come up with a couple different solutions for how to wire it up so that it's not so messy and so that they can have the phone farther away from the TV/receiver.
BOOM! This thing is the t!ts!
Very impressed not only with how everything worked but how bad ass the video and camera is on this phone. Let me paint this picture for you..... Grab your booze of choice.... I'm on to wine since I'm hanging with the wife.... F that, I like wine! Don't judge me!
So I've been home for about 2 hours after an office happy hour and the wife and I are watching a flick, drinking some wine and I hear the words finally come out of her mouth, "you got a package with some cords or some sh!t...... ". I flew off the couch like a squatter in a raided crackhouse, grabbed the cables and set up in no time. Crystal clear! Smooth and flawless! Wife still confused...key moment... How do you drag the wife into your excitement..... Baby videos that have been on your phone for three years and probably haven't been seen since then.
Cables, $20 including shipping and handling.
Rezound, $250
Impressing the wife with technology, priceless...... BS! The freedom I gained and my inability to not buy cool sh!t will continue to be very expensive!

A "standard" USB OTG cable - micro USB plug <-> USB A socket
Just search e.g. at Amazon or other dealers
But it MUST be a "real" OTG cable not just an adapter (pin1 grounded)
And also yes works on HOX+ out-of-the box

The power point is used to power the connected devices and doesn't power/charge the tablet.
Plus it's only powerful enough to power USB devices, it will not power 2.5 " HDD's for example.

Did you order one of these? If not, I'm curious as to where your getting the specs from. I'm hoping your wrong of course, lol. My external 2.5" HDD runs perfectly with 500ma, so if I had my 2100ma USB wall wort powering this adapter, I would assume I would get 500ma (if the power is being limited) or more out of the 2 usb ports. Unless Samsung is planning on selling an overpriced breakout box, I don't understand why they would cripple such a nice tablet with this one port for everything crap.

I ordered the 1 port version, not the 2 ports version mentioned above.
It's true the tablet can power 2.5 HDD's when connected to any/most OTG cables, but I also wanted to use it with a phone (which needs the HDD to be connected to a power source).
After I sent the 1 port version back, I looked at buying the 2 port version, but after reading the small print, I found out the tablet couldn't be powered/charged, the power point was used to power the connected devices.
Two examples of the 2 ports version I looked at:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Micro-Adapter-Cable-Galaxy-EXCITES/dp/B00J2QID16/ref=sr_1_29?ie=UTF8&qid=1402734708&sr=8-29&keywords=otg+cable

The USB Power Port only supplies extra power to the dual OTG ports. It will not charge your mobile phone or tablet.

The 2 port version, obviously will work when connecting 2 devices at once, but the power point, won't be any use, as the tablet will already be powering the devices.
That's my understanding of it.

It does not charge the tablet. It does supply power to the 2 usb ports even when disconnected from the tablet. It is an inexpensive alternative to the Samsung otg to usb adapter I purchased for $19.99.
Hopefully Samsung or some other company comes out with an adapter that can charge the tablet and has usb and hdmi ports.

here u go guys...meant to post this almost a week ago when i saw the topic. i ordered one for my tab pro 8.4 lte (should work for every variant though) & it works great...u can use hdmi (takes the regular full sized cable) with a hard drive/flash drive or large sdcard connected simultaneously while charging your device but the charger doesnt even need to be plugged up for hdmi to work. The bonus for me was that i won mine in an auction & only paid $4 for it (normally around $10 as u can see from the link which still isnt bad)...if there is any negative about this thing its all the weight/stress resting on that lil micro usb connection which means it basically needs to be placed perfectly flat. They also have a dock version which should solve that issue for around $20 which i plan to order & test at some point...hope this helps other users out with your decision

USB cable does not work for data transfers (charges ok)

Just got the Nexus 9 a couple of days ago, charged it, but when I connected it to the computer, nothing, it's not detected at all. Tried both a Mac and Windows laptop.
I tried a different cable and it works fine with that, just not with the stock HTC cable.
What's going on here? Busted cable? I assume it's not a charge only cable, that wouldn't make much sense. Could it be that the cable doesn't like the USB3 ports?
are yo on modified kernel with fast charge enabled? if so, please disable it.

No, just stock rooted. As I said, other cables work fine, but not the stock HTC cable, so it is the cable, not the tablet or the computers/drivers, etc.
ahh I'm sorry i missed that. anyway, surely it was a faulty cable.

No luck needed, just a different 99c cable
Just to bring closure to this thread, I contacted HTC and they finally sent me a replacement charger and cable even though I only asked for the cable (not because I didn't already have a pile of USB cables around but because I was curious whether there was something wrong with the HTC cable I received with my N9 or just an incompatibility). The new cable I received works fine for both data and charging. So the cable that came in the box was bad. But to my surprise the new charger I got also works much better, it chargers faster (I have a USB dongle that I can measure the charging current with). The original charger was capable to only charge the N9 but not other devices which I found weird.
So something went really wrong with the included charger and cable. How can it be that you have both a bad charger and cable in the same box? I can see one being bad, but both? Makes me wonder what I should expect from the tablet itself ... Doesn't look like quality is top priority at HTC, no wonder the company is not doing well at all.

USB 3.1 C to C cables for S8/S8+ longer than 3ft?? (UK)

I am having a nightmare trying to find any USB 3.0/ 3.1 type c to type c (at least 5gbps) cables in the UK longer than 3ft!! I have found a couple of 3 ft ones but I will be using it to charge my S8, there is no way a 3ft cable is going to reach behind my desk and down to the socket. I would also like to be able to use it as more than purely a charging cable, hence wanting 5gbps or the newer 10gbps speeds. I am amazed there isn't a single cable longer than 3ft for it other than a few old usb 2.0 ones which are useless these days (and I suspect won't even charge it at full speed).
Couple of 3ft ones, one by Belkin and one by Anker, but nothing longer (in the UK anyway). There must be a demand for them, connecting a charger will need longer than 3ft for anyone that has it on a desk, and connecting it to the back of a pc of docking station will as well!

They have a few others on there as well that are 6 ft.

Again, I am *NOT* in the US...and I *DONT* want USB 2.0!!
I don't see why not use 2 cables. Personally I use 2 cables simply because always having to pull the cable and do what I got to do then put it back from my desk is real bothersome. I don't know how your setup is however.
If you're looking for a cable to use with the OEM charger, the unboxing videos I've seen show the included charger with a USB A connection, so you would need a C-to-A cable. (You might already be aware, just making sure.)

Yeah I am using 2 cables, this is the second one. I already have a 6ft USB C to A cable so that's covered, I just want a c to c cable 6ft and at least 5gbps usb 3.0 so it is somewhat future proof (vs all the usb 2.0 versions I keep finding that are too old and slow for my needs).

Yep I have C to A already. No Idea why C to C at longer than 3ft is so hard to find, I'll just have to wait I guess.
C to C isn't all that popular currently. There are very few things out right now that require C to C.

I guess you are not that bright either since you couldn't find a simple cable for yourself and resorted to ask for help.
Next time you need help on a public forum maybe it's a good idea to pretend you are not a complete douchebag.
And i completely agree with other poster, you should Google yourself. We are not your servants.

Both of you are acting like children. The likely reason why its so hard to find is because the manufacturers likely consider the main use-case to be phone to phone data transfer or Phone to PC charge and data. In this scenario most people would want the devices relatively close together. It just might be too early for a cable like it to be widely available. I managed to find 1 (I think) on the amazon UK site. It comes in a pack of 5 cables with varied lengths. It appears they have the cable but I don't see it in a stand-alone pack just yet.

I'm not sure why you are saying I acted like a child! I was merely saying that nobody is perfect and it's not okay to insult people. He didn't swear at me, he did it to someone else. I intervened as you just did.
Anyway, I guess you just misunderstood the context.

I did misunderstand. I would rather we all focus on trying to help OP and not flame each other. Figured calling it childish was the mildest way to put things.

It's USB 2.0 :crying:
As a new member I can't post direct links yet but just go to Amazon's UK website and search "usb c 3.0 long" and you will tons of options. Not sure why you had such difficulty finding it.
