Still too early? ... Really quiet here - Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe Guides, News, & Discussion

I have been thinking about the Deluxe. I have had concerns about community support for the ASUS phone. Given that concern, it seems really quite here. Maybe I'm just too anxious?

You are early and it also sounds like you are somewhat anxious as well. Understandable. Visually and on paper it holds it's own against other flagships.
A big part of the vocal masses haven't even received the phone yet. To be sure there's not a lot going on in Zentalk forums for the deluxe yet either. in the US, ASUS officially started shipping out phones yesterday. If you want to get a feel how the community support may be, take a look at the Zenfone 2 forums. More reviews from regular consumers should be popping up within the next few days or so.

Hopefully there will be a big XDA party soon!

Hopefully this is the case as it's a great phone, had mine now for a couple of weeks, but with root and custom roms it could be soooo much more...
Hopefully the bootloader unlock happens soon too...

Future Prime Owner....NOTES

So I asked for money as my Christmas present in hopes of purchasing the Prime. I have been searching YouTube, Google and this forum as well as a few others trying to gather intel. This is my first post but I have been scoping the threads out for weeks now.
I must say, a lot of wind has been let out of my sails. But honestly I am not surprised by the Wifi issues.
My hope was to snag a 32GB champagne (silver) and a transleeve. After reading all the issues on the first batch I have decided to wait until Bestbuy carries them in store. I have already ordered a clear dry-tech back and screen protector from skinomi.com and hopefully this will help the scratching caused by the transleeve but I am still not sure if I will purchase this sleeve.
I'm just curious how many out there are feeling the same as me? I expected issues with the first shipments so I am not giving up, but just disappointed to see the percentage of problems with other items such as screen pixel issues, colors, gps, etc.
I am very glad that some have invested in the technology early enough for individuals like me (and hopefully others) to hold tight, continue to research and review threads and then once purchased, feel very confident in the unit and accessories purchased. This web forum is very very helpful so thank you all for posting your comments, issues, etc.
Let's just hope Best buy gets the units in the next two weeks.
if you actually look at it there are likely alot of people who are not on xda who have the prime without issues and alot of people on xda with no issues the amount of people with issues is likely very small compared to everyone with a working one
My initial excitement has turned to more nervousness as i await shipment due to this forum. Any future product like this (phone or tablet) i will steer clear of the forums until i actually get the product. I am just glad i ordered through best buy so i can just return it to the store if there are problems. If that happens i will probably not get another one and just not buy a tablet at this point in time.
This is true, most people posting are having issues. I wouldn't do much posting if I had a working on hahaha.

I ordered mine from BB on the 23rd and after using it for a bit, I really like it. Mine had none of the issues that were reported so that's good. The only thing now is that there's a lot of lag, and probably because the 5th core is clocked pretty low but once we get some development going, the Prime's gonna be great.

I agree with the others. You've' done your research and you are prepared, but keep in mind you dont hear much from people without probems. For example, I have not even read the wifi threads because I don have a wifi problem.None-my wifi is perfectly fine. My gps is screwy but I just cant imagine a scenario whee Asus doesnt provide a solution for this.
I dont have a scratch on mine, as matter of fact there is not even a single finger print on mine. Ive left it in the plastic wrap/sleeve it came in until I find suitable case. But, its like a new car - its just matter of when, cuz it's bound to happen.
Try not to worry, you've done your homework, you know the product. Enjoy
I was a little worried like you, especially since I have myself convinced that I get a lot of lemon products.
I agree that there are likely far more satisfied Prime owners than the dissatisfied ones on xda.
I received mine today, and I must say, I am quite happy. Everything is fine. Screen's good, body is great, wifi's working fine, GPS locked on right away, and within 5 meters at that. Now, Honeycomb still has its hiccups, but that's another story, and it's not enough to bother me at the moment.
If you'll excuse me, I'm going back to my baby... =]
this is just like the news. they always reporting mostly bad stuff going on. hardly report good things. but we all know more good goes on in the world than bad stuff. its just the negative things that get the most attention. like others, I'm glad ididnt let the negative hype get to me or I would've never bought this tablet. I'm so glad I did. its the Best tablet yet.
I have a Prime with no issues. It's fast, intuitive, fun and I love it. It is my first tablet and first exposure to android, so I realize that I don't have anything to compare it to. I don't have the GPS or wifi issue, I have no light bleed, my browser is fluid and I have not run into any apps that are not compatable. It feels great in my hands - not slippery and my enclosure seems well sealed.
That said, I haven't wanted to get on here and rave about my good fortune when others are experiencing such disappointment. But I do want to make the point that when Asus gets the product right, it's a beautiful tablet that looks & feels amazing and works as designed. $500 is a difficult chunk to spend, even in good times; in my case, it was worth every penny. I wish that was so for everyone because truly, it is hard to enjoy something when you feel like the lucky exception.
I totally understand the hesitation and disappointment, but I just wanted to put it out there (for those still on the fence) that in some cases, (or I should say in MY case) it really is the tablet I was so wrapped up in anticipation of.
In hindsight, I was so petrified and worried that the tablet was going to be riddled with problems, that it has taken me a few days to really let go of the worry and allow myself to enjoy it.
mines perfect. woot!
I'm in the same boat as you, I saw this thing and was all "oh my, why hello there, dream tablet",
but as launch date for the Netherlands neared, the heaps upon heaps of complaints from the US started piling up.
Dodgy Wifi, dead GPS, flaky batterysensors, bleeding screens, vibrator motors coming loose,
all this really got my hairs up and now im on the verge of just giving up.
Ive already taken a bite from a big s*tsandwich a couple years ago by buying into one of the tablet predecessors, the UMPC,
and im afraid im going to be forking out my Christmas funds on a big ol' sour lemon.. again!
I dont want my first tablet to be a harrowing experience of failing hardware and non caring support.
Im a big fan of Asus and id blindly buy any motherboard from these fellas,
but this tablet and the nasty aura its starting to show...
meeeeh I dunno people.. what do we do now?
I would think waiting and buying it locally - where you can return it in a quick trip - might feel more like the ability to "undo" than buying it online.

Thanks for the comments! I am feeling more comfortable with my soon to be purchase. I might order the 32gb Champagne online from BB if it ever comes available, but I would prefer to get it from the store so I don't have to pay a restocking fee if exchanged.
Its more of the quick exchange without hassle I am looking for. If I have issues with it I would take it to BB and exchange it, but if I order it online and take it to the store which doesn't have any I am out of luck on getting an exchange.

ASUS Technical Support - why bother?

I ordered my TF201 32GB from Office Depot and received it in early January. Unboxed it, turned it on, installed some apps etc. then left charging overnight. Next morning noticed unit was not charged and down to 25% or so. Used another outlet but no improvement. Then froze the power unit as suggested in the forum. Called Asus Technical Support and troubleshooted the unit. CSR convinced it was the unit itself; asked me to ship unit to Texas facility (at my dime of course). 2 weeks later unit was shipped back (took 9 days since it was Fedex Ground from CA to NY!).
Unboxed unit and noticed that battery at 5%! Plugged in and... Nothing. Not charging!! Called ASUS - probably same idiot with whom I spoke the first time. Asked me to ship it back (on my dime) again to Texas but different RMA! Had no explanation as to why the RMA number should be different but I guess whoever they outsourced repairs to does not want to report to ASUS that they did not fix an issue the first time..CSR told me to only ship unit AGAIN. I challenged him that it may makse sense because, god forbid, it may be charger at fault! He said "ok" ship it back too.. thank you very kind of you to keep an open mind MR. ASUS CSR... I also mentioned that it seems unfair I pay for shipping again... so he sent me a Fedex label.. ground of course so 3-4 days to Texas (no ground pick up on weekends) and then another few days for the geniuses at whoever does the repair to figure it out and another 5-6 days to ship back.. so all in all 6 weeks since purchase and I have not used my Prime.. I had bought my wife an ASUS UX21 since she travels a lot for work but I returned it to Amazon for a refund within the 30 day window.. had to pay a fee to return but hey probably saved her (and me) a lot of aggravation.. her Toshiba ultrabook is working just fine thank you very much. Totally frustrated by idiots at ASUS. I cancelled the dock purchase at Office Depot too. As much as I do not like Apple products at least you can find an Apple Store everywhere and get a replacement and/or a technician to take a look and troubleshoot.. and iPads cost the same as a PRIME.. I am done with Asus.. once this is fixed it goes on Craigslist or eBay. Not sure what else I'll get.. anyone want to order my ASUS? It will be cheap.. once I get it back.
This reminds me of an experience we had with an Asus RMA, it was one of their eeePC models (back when they were the hot thing to get). We had to send the device back a total of three or four times before the issue was finally properly repaired. Asus can be kinda poor when it comes to some more obscure RMA situations, I totally understand your frustration.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
Sounds completely understandable on your stance. Unacceptable customer service. Damn Asus, is the RMA place really that bad. Not all are bad experiences but there's been too many bad stories popping up lately. Good luck on choosing new device. As much as i like my Prime, if I had to go through what some people have, I'd give up on them also.
@OP
Why didn't you take it back to Office Depot in the first place? That's why retailers exist, to deal with the customer.
My 14-day return window is up today. I'm bringing back the TFP.
Even though I've had no problems with mine, I've heard too many stories like this. Too much negativity surrounding this device to allow me to enjoy it. I will downgrade my specs requirement and will go with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Have I read this right? You have a perfectly fine functioning tfp, but are returning it because others have had bad experiences, and you have heard too many stories!
This sounds like you give more credence to other peeps woes rather than go by your own
Experiences. I had better not mention all the negative stories I have heard about the galaxy tab as I would hate to ruin your enjoyment of that tablet!!!
What
Is wrong with enjoying the ..perfect tfp that you have? Remember that peeps are far more likely to moan than praise, for every negative issue on this board there are many many more happy punters who have not posted anything anywhere

Yes...you heard it right. I previously had the Galaxy Tab and was fairly happy with it's performance (sans ICS). Really wanted to try the TFP...so I returned the GT and got one to try myself even with all of the negativity expressed here. While I encountered no real issues myself...I couldn't help think about whether or not the TFP would become but a blip on the radar for ASUS support and dev efforts. Sure, the TFP is newer technology than the GT....perhaps I'm just not willing to be one of their beta testers. The GT has been out long enough now to iron out a lot of the wrinkles...plus, ICS is still to come which will almost certainly improve performance.
I'm not slamming the TFP...just wasn't impressed enough with it over the GT to risk being subjected to Asus' tech support should that have been required.

Really,
Yours works but you're going to return it because other people have had issues?
Well.. I love my current Prime and I'm waiting on my second to get here next week along with my dock!
Newegg won't even accept my return because the serial number sticker next to the charging port is gone....
They don't care to turn it on and check the serial in settings to match it with the box and warranty papers.
Looks like a lot of us have had bad experiences because of this tablet. I'm waiting for the TF700T but I might be going with another company.

THIS^^^is a follower. Worried too much about what others are thinkn instead of making decisions based on hour own thinking. PLUS the comment about not sure about further Asus support or developement is ignorant at the least. ASUS has been constantly pumping out updates. Name one other company who released as many OTA updates as the Prime received. WE had ICS. We had root already out the box basically. We Had overclock in less than a month. We had Ubuntu n Linux n other flavors lf it already n less than a month. We already have extra drivers n such being added by dev. In less than a month. We already have root for ICS. We already have some minor theming going on. All this without even having bootunlocker tool yet. For you to make such a statement is kinda disrespect to hard work developers have been doing already here. Name another tablet as new as this one thst had so many things developement wise in its first month of existence. You forgetting its still barely over a month since people first started receiving their primes.
I COULD CARE less you returned it, that's your right to. But your reasoning is plain silly. You said although my prime runs perfect, I got frustrated at seeing all the negative stuff surrounding it. DO you know how many of us had our devices way before you n been dealing with all negative stuff? My prime works great also but not gonna return just because someone else dislikes theirs. Sounds like someone needs their hand held when choosing tablet or making any major decisions. GOOD THING THE other poster didn't mention horror stories he heard about the Galaxy tab or you might just throw a hissy fit.
DONT mean to sound harsh but JUST saying....it would be different if you were like OK I'm returning it because it performed poorly for me. Or I had a personal bad experience with Asus support. Not, well ima return it because Tom,****,n Jane dont like theirs...lmfao
Well good luck with new device anyways.
I had a wonderful experience with them. with a new working Prime delivered before I sent mine back.
But then again, I didnt demand a fix or talk like a privileged anus.

Thanks...a follower? At least you didn't call me a fanboy. ;-)
I care about my investment and how I feel about it. It's all speculation right now as to how much develpment will occur for the tfp at this point...guess I'm just bowing out as I don't wish to be part of the guessing. I do know the Galaxy Tab has been rewarded.
As far as me not experiencing any earth-crushing issues, I'd say that's true. However, I'm sitting here inside my home typing away on my GalaxyTab with a lock on 8 satellites. And wifi range is excellent EVERYWHERE in my home (and I am talking about a significant difference)...I now get my expected 22-24Mbps down from anywhere in my house whereas before would only achieve these speeds right beside my router and would get 4-6Mbps down further away. Still useable...but pale in comparison to the speeds I get with the GT.
I tested both the TFP and the GT within a month period....I feel better with the sammy and went back to it. How is that being a follower? I tried both extensibly for myself to arrive at a decision I felt comfortable with. As far as the negativity being a factor in my decision...hell yeah. Why shouldn't it be? Had I not been offered the chance to return the TFP easily, I never would have bought it based on what I've read here...some would say that's part of the research done when considering a purchase. After testing it out, I wasn't blown away...for my needs, there was nothing that the GT couldn't do just as well plus with gps and wifi working much better. For sure, it only has 2 cores...maybe I'm good with that.
I do hope everyone feels good about their purchase. I didn't and did the logical thing.

Easy as you are right. That is what i said n still feel the same. I ran by serial number by Gary n he told me it was from an early batch n someone would call me. Ill easily take the new hardware revision over older one. Especially if it might mean might GPS might finally work. I never said "I want them to repair mines". Plus although no dropped signals or anything, wifi signal still fluctuates alot. SO if older hardware was never really meant to be shipped out then people on older batch entitled to the upgrade, or sorts. I did pay for this device, Cash, and I do have a warranty. I never had an issue like others been posting. SO ILL TAKE THE MINI UPGRADE IF OFFERED. That's all. Plus from hearing the horror stories from returns like guy with device smashed, I'm not sure if I would even send mines in yet. Especially since overall having no problems. GPS aside. Remember, they are people out there that have GPS working to some extent one way or another. I having seen a lock yet, although I never tried for more than 5 mins n was indoors everytime. I haven't taken my prime outdoors yet. Plus based on my date of final purchase 12/22 I'd be entitled to any possible hardware fixes for GPS since mine is clearly shown to be purchased before they took GPS spec down.

received it in early January. so all in all 6 weeks since purchase and I have not used my Prime..
My question is how you figure 6 weeks? How many weeks are there in January if today is the 28th?
On a serious note, why not try to find a charger from Frys or OD or Staples. The ones for the OG TF 101 work and determine if the problem is the charger or not?

OK, completely understandable then. I see where you really coming from from this post.
As far as your second quote,I'm not really waiting for anything. I was just told my device is one of early one built. Device still works great but if I'm offered an opportunity to upgrade it to newer parts, then why wouldn't I. Lol. It'll make it even better, I would hope. I still love this device and has done everything I've asked of it n more. Only complaint I would have is GPS. I know that's very important to some people and deciding factor whether to keep it or not. For me, its no big deal. Everything is great aside from GPS. Just thankful I don't have issues some others been describing. Kinda makes it hard to believe when your device working so well. But its a given.
One thing though, Asus better step their game up with the quickness. I have a feeling if they don't address the possible issues on prime, their new upgrade model will be a fail LR do worse. As Prime n t-700 basically share all the same internal components. It'll be in Asus best interest to attack these issues head on. ASUS Losing people everyday. They gaining also but still. People with issues want to keep device but won't since some are riddled with issues. Can't be mad for someone wanting to return a device that's not working properly for them.

Prime dying?

This forum seems to be running down in terms of activity and the direction and tone of the threads. "I exchanged/ Best Buy exchanged my Prime for an Infinity"; "Ready to switch to N7?"; on the beta test thread..."I'm interested in Win8 tablets..."; 2 weeks since the last word from Gary.
I'm feeling despondent about my purchase. I wanted it to be so good and coming on here has slowly corroded my positivity. Dump upon dump upon dump of dissatisfaction with the product. Moan upon moan upon moan about Asus. Trouble is I don't know anymore if I have wasted my money and been taken for a ride by an unscrupulous organization or users with technical expertise are too demanding and miffed because their expectations have not been met.
I thought the Prime was going to be the ultimate when I bought it. Now, it was just a dream.
Being popular and functional has been removed from the marketing materials. It should not be expected functionality of the TF201 any more.
Well i feel the same about the forum, but, what is there to post about atm?
The prime was and is a very nice tablet but others have come out in the meantime that are just as good or even better in some aspects. So i think people that always need the latest and greatest have moved on.
I think the recent issues are known (I/O, gaming crash&hangs, rnd reboots) and dont need to be further discussed. So i guess people are just waiting for the next update to come in which will hopefully fix one of the remaining issues. And i think the majority of XDA prime users have already unlocked anyway and installed a custom rom so they are probably discussing/talking in the dev section in the custom rom threads.
I'm one of those that havent unlocked yet because i'm really happy with my prime EXCEPT for the gaming lock ups. So i said to myself i'll wait for another update or probably until JellyBean hits (which should be in the next month i think). If things wont be fixed by then i'll unlock and install a custom rom.
I think you have summed it up nicely. I will eventually unlock and install a custom Rom. I just wish I didn't have to rely on the passion of enthusiasts to get what I thought I paid for.
These forums have a tendency to go through cycles, the only ones that stay consistently busy are the nexus forums
update is likely to be worth waiting for. give it another week or 2 at most. if nothing by then unlock. androwookie 2.1 is a great rom and is paired with the hard hitting motley kernel.
Unlock, install custom ROMs now, thank me later.
The reason I say this is it actually makes the tablet behave the way it was supposed to. The difference in the ICS ROMs is huge and the JB ROMs are so buttery smooth and fast... not quite there yet feature wise but only a matter of time
The reason why I have not unlocked the PRIME because of green camera. I may send to RMA soon but there is another tangle that the Prime may not be unlocked after RMA. So It is hard for me to make decision right now. Still waiting for little later to see what is going on.
Forum is not the device

Don't let the negativity on the forum make you "despondant". Base your opinions on your own experience and weather or not it is meeting your needs. I've yet to have a device of any brand, model, or OS where the associated forum did not end up devolving into a complaint/rant area. This is particularly true when you are between major updates because there is nothing big new to talk about so only the people who have problems and/or are dissatisfied spend a lot of time posting.
This is normal/typical.

Just remember that only guys with problems populate these forums, which is not wrong. Just note that not everybody has problems. I have a prime and I have not had any problems till date. Just see if you are satisfied with the purchase. Currently my prime is good and the only worry I have is what the JB will bring to me. Hopefully it does not screw up my prime

Not quite true...
Sure, there will always be complaints and/or issues. But most of the time not as massive as with the prime and not without reason. There simply ARE quite a number of issues with the prime and it does not quite deliver up to the hype. At least, not for a lot of people.
I'm usually lurking, but thought I'd share my two cents on this topic. I, unlike a lot of people here, have had hardly any issues. My prime doesn't flicker, my games don't crash, no light bleed, and my wifi works fine. The only issue I had was with the GPS not being accurate, but to me it's a non-issue since I don't use my tablet for navigation (that's what I use the Galaxy S2 for if I need it!). Also in case anyone is wondering I'm not rooted. So honestly for me the Prime is everything I thought it would be plus some. I use it everyday for reading news, books, watch some episodes of my favorite tv shows during lunch at work, or do some digital sketching, etc. It's an excellent tool for media, learning and productivity.
I think that most prime owners who aren't having any issues aren't posting in these forums. I see tons of negativity about the Prime everyday I come to the forums. I never post anything because I don't have any of those issues. It sucks that a lot of prime owners here have so many issues because it really is a great product. I'm willing to bet some of the people posting about the issues are the cause of their own problem and some of the problems are directly related Asus.
I wouldn't write off the prime or Asus to be honest, but that's my opinion. I've had very little issue with them. I also own the OG Transformer and again...none of the issues others were having except the lag. I hope Asus works out the kinks with the hardware and software related issues everyone seems to be having. Again....just my two cents.
The current wave of trade ups for the Infinity could accelerate the Prime's fate into a collector's tablet. As the total number of owned units out there decrease, so will the need to support it and I wouldn't be surprised if Asus is trying to bury both the 201 and 300 into oblivion in order to focus on the 700 and beyond.
I agree
I have had my Prime since day one Dec 23rd never had any issues with it. Yes GPS sucks but I don't use it for that. Everything runs fine on it and again based on the roms we are running. I was rooted and unlocked after a few weeks. But I understand the frustration about development. There are only a few real roms out there and are very close to stock, no real themes or tweaking, seems these are only updated when Asus releases a major update. I used to own a Samsung Captivate and would flash it ever day with different roms with tweaks up grade different flavors from the devs. but for a device as strong as the Prime was/is and for it now being out 9 months you would think there would be more working with it and more development than it really has. I thank the devs who are working on things for our Prime and I appreciate the work they put into making it better.
Completely true

Though there is one "Positive" I love my Prime sort of thread out there, it is almost universally true that on all XDA (and other forums) nearly 100% of the discussions come down to one of three things:
1. "I'm having problems...."
2. "When are we going to get our next update..." and complaining about why it takes so long.
3. Developers/tweaking/custom ROM discussions. This one is often at least indirectly related to 1 and 2.
This is the nature of the beast with forums. Pick out pretty much any device you want and its all the same. People for whom everything is working they way they want it to don't bother starting a thread. What are they going to say? "Gee, just starting a thread to say all is well!" It just doesn't work that way.
I stick by my original statement that said "Don't let the negativity on the forum make you "despondant". Base your opinions on your own experience and weather or not it is meeting your needs. "

My letter to ASUS for their excellent work and support on TF201

I already sent the letter to ASUS support. I hope to hear something back.
Dear Asus,
I have owned many consumer electronic devices and I must say, the TF201 is hands down the WORST piece of gadget I have ever owned. Nothing about it works and the worst part is, you are reluctant to help us to make it work.
For 10 months, we, the users, have been beta testing the TF201 so that you can develop better, improved products like the 700. We paid over 500 dollars to test products for you and receive no support. We have been through numerous ANR on simple tasks such as web browsing or playing a 2D game. Seriously? Is this what we paid 500 dollars for? Not only that, every subsequent firmware update did nothing to improve the product. Yet asus hasn't done much to help the situation. You provide the users with a half baked bootloader unlock tool that doesn't work for 50% of the users (check XDA). When asked to fix the bootloader unlock tool, ASUS says they dont support unlocking the device and can't do anything about it. Asus requested users to RMA their device to fix the bootloaded issue yet when the users get it back, there had been no change. No issues were addressed. Now we are stuck with a garbage firmware from ASUS that can’t even do the simplest things right and users can't even put a custom ROM to help make our experience better.
Two days ago, you released an OTA for jellybean which failed to update for about half the existing owners. Now when we check for the update, the tablet can't find it anymore and we are stuck with the same crappy 4.0.3 firmware. The devs are going above and beyond to modify the update file so it can work for everyone (check XDA) since asus is too lazy to upload the firmware on their support/download page. I got a question for you ASUS, can you do ANYTHING right? How much do you have to suck to screw up an OTA? I have used many android products from many vendors and NONE of them had nearly as many issues as the TF201. In the dev community it is called the bastard child. Many owners simply sold it at a loss or were successful at trading it at bestbuy for something else since Asus would not support them. You have the courage to charge customer $500+ for such a garbage device yet you provide this level of support? I understand problems happen and users are willing to cope with issues. But the least you could do is support your product by providing us with a functioning bootloader unlocker so the users that are having problems with the garbage firmware can at least use a custom firmware to make it useable again. We paid for this device and we expect some level of functionality such as browsing the web for the money we paid. At the very least, you can upload the new firmware on the support page so users who are having issues downloading the firmware (because some engineers can’t even make a functioning OTA) can at least manually upgrade to 4.1.
Overall, I must say, this tablet has done nothing more than frustrating me. Every time I go to use it, something goes wrong. I hope someone reads this email and feels guilty for charging upwards of $500 to deliver such subpar device to its consumers. At the very least, check out the XDA forum for TF201 and see how much time is being spent by users to simply get a straightforward OTA. Finally, if asus can’t deliver remotely what they promised, they should leave the tablet game for companies that know how to build a decent firmware or OTA.
Sincerely,
A disappointed customer
Given their track record, they will probably ignore it. I dont expect to hear anything back.
I have the same feelings as you, but post this on their facebook page or something if you want it to make some kind of impact. Here on XDA there are what, like 2 Asus marketing employees who occasionally come by?
Your opinion
I respect your right to have an opinion. I actually only come to this developers website to read productive opinions. Your opinion has no purpose here other than to fan the flames of your ire. It's useless for productive people and the moderators should delete your thread.

I already posted on their FB page. But they deleted it. So I emailed them directly. I am looking for Jony shi's email address so I can email him personally. I am pretty sure he has no clue how bad the team F'ed it up
I thought most people who had issues with the OTA had rooted their tablet and messed with it somehow. To me it seems like asus has made sure the update works for everyone who hasn't done anything to their prime and that it doesn't brick anyones tablet, and it seems many people are able to get their tablet back into a state such that they can install the update. I really don't think we could expect them to do much more.
Also I don't get why the download problems where so terrible, it's still only been two days since the first release and I think most people are able to get the update pretty quickly now.
And also note that not only did they get us jellybean quicker than most other devices, but they also fixed one of the biggest issues with the prime (ANR). The only thing I really am disappointed over is the lack of status updates leading up to the release.

This kind of attitude of being quiet and trying to figure things out by ourselves is why ASUS can get away with it. No one brings it up. TF201 is probably the worst tablet out their for android in its price range and it has been 10 months and there have been no improvements. I am not whining, I am just stating something that is unfair. No matter how much the devs try, they can't unlock the prime unless ASUS does something. And most of us dont have hours to fiddle with something like OTA that should just work. So we SHOULD bring up the issue. I think more people should contact ASUS directly until something is done because clearly we can't solve the problem.
We deserve something better than a paperweight for $500.

I am stock unrooted. My download failed and my tablet can't find it anymore. And ASSUS is too busy watching porn and dont have the time to upload the firmware to their website.

Although I agree with the sentiment (I too have a prime) i'm seriously fed up of coming on this forum and seeing people complain.
there are enough complaint threads already.
I am fortunate enough to have been able to unlock my device, but that in itself contains massive risks (I almost bricked mine a couple of weeks ago)
when trying to look for a solution to my partial brick, all I could find were complaint threads. even semi useful threads were full of complaints. this made the task very frustrating.
By all means complain to Asus... but PLEASE enough with these threads and all of the thread jacking that is going on.. I want rid of my prime not because of performance, but because I can't read any thread in any section of the Prime forum without having to hear the same people complaining again and again.
I'm sorry if this seems confrontational, but I have seriously had enough of it!!
P.S. OP, please change the subject of this post to something more relevant like "My complaint letter to Asus ( Yet another complaint thread)"

My point is that this post here is not that thing you claim to want. Nobody here works for asus and nobody here is looking for the opinion of the unhappy user. Its been done to death and is not an original thought.
People dont come to this site (or shouldnt) hoping the manufacturer is here to fix the problems they have.
I honestly don't know what you're trying to achieve here. First of all, this is what, the 14th thousand complaint thread OF THE DAY? We get it, you hate your device. Now be a big boy and sell the damn thing if you're so fed up with it. Second of all, if you want Asus to take your letter seriously, or read it without groaning like I did, don't use phrases like "how much do you have to suck" or "crappy, garbage firmware". If you expect Asus to respond professionally, I'd start by not sounding like a 12 year old boy that had his toy broken.
Jellybean's been out 2 days. TWO WHOPPING DAYS. If you can't access the update now I'd suggest you wait a week or two, because evidently you're not the only Prime user in the world. There are plenty of people who are also attempting to update their device, and mind I point out that many have gotten the new firmware and are quite happy with the result. There's no need to throw a fit simply because you weren't among the firsts in line.
Finally, don't complain about not being able to put custom ROMs on your device. That's not Asus' problem. We all know that unlocking the bootloader and flashing custom ROMs void the warranty. No one forced you to do it, and if you did it and borked your device, Asus has no obligation to fix it for you. I fully understand the risks of tampering with the firmware, and if tomorrow I flashed something new and bricked my Prime, I wouldn't go running to Asus and demand an answer.
I have my fair share of problems with the Prime, trust me. But this forum has brought whining to a whole new level.
sorry fellas i have to agree with op. and im not hatin on asus. i have a nexus seven and two high end asus laptops (though the keyboards are absolute ****) which i love. the prime is the biggest piece of **** ever sold to the american public. i mean really? you bottleneck the device by having horribly slow storage? and a device that is only wifi with **** wifi?
i took mine back to best buy today and recieved a 538 dollar credit. so it was made right by best buy. praise baby jesus that POS is gone and i didnt take a loss.
I wish i could get my money back for this POS from gamestop or asus. I shouldnt have to sell it for a loss because of asuses broken promises and lack of competence.

I don't get it. While I do understand that Prime XDA forum is nothing but complaints (I wonder why...), you also have an option to not read any of them. But you continue to reply to majority of them... mock the individual... and say "blah blah blah"... just as useless as many other complaint threads as you put it.
And really?? Gary Key doesn't work for Asus? Asus_Tien doesn't work for Asus??
Same for my.deleate mesage and user....

I actually do agree with whycali... we have too many thread complaining about the device... what is the point? does the number of threads make a difference to Asus?... if you have problems with the device, that's really bad luck, but use an existing thread instead of creating a new one... I rarely read these thread of complaints, but it's becoming really hard to find useful threads...

I agree... I almost didn't buy my prime because of all the negative things that have been said here. Thankfully I decided to make up my own mind and im glad i did. Best thing i have bought myself in awhile.
Thankfully im reporting non of the issue's that everyone else has been. maybe im Lucky or people are just blowing things out of proportion. Ive been using ASUS products for years and Ive never had problems with any of their products.... can't believe that their build quality has went down that much since the last computer i built which is still running fine today.

Well as long as mine works perfectly it doesn't matter what anybody says.... just sad that i come on here to discuss what people are doing with their tabs and what cool things are being done and all i see is negativity.
out of every forum here on xda ive looked at this one for the prime seems to be the worst.
I get that the prime is not perfect and has its flaws, but what i really don't get is why people are upset about OTA problem^^
OTA's are supposed to work for stock devices, if you do stuff like rooting and modding you should be aware that OTAs might not work anymore. Yes even rooting and installing busybox will modify your system and may cause OTA problems.
I personally have no problems with my prime. Happy user since last January. And now it has jellay bean! <3 loving it so far

I'm personally fed up with people being fed up at seeing so many complaint threads. Be mad at Asus for selling us a crappy product and not supporting it. This product deserves to have an XDA thread chock full of complaint threads to remind people who see them what a garbage company Asus is.

More ppl should visit the +tf201 thread...

So I've had my ups and downs with this tablet. My GPS has been borked since day 1, no biggie to me but I don't like that fact. They gave me an adapter that works, for free. Never use it...
I'm on my 3rd free RMA, it is being shipped back to me now even though I wanted to pick it up...anyway, each free RMA was definitely caused by my own actions. So they have fixed my prime 3 times now when I have been the problem. Of course, I don't state it that way to them and I am very polite...
Each RMA has been super fast too, never more than 3 days!
I have my gripes with this tablet, like: why the hell was it so laggy after the JB update?! or why the hell couldn't I connect to my adhoc wifi originally?! Which made it useless to me to begin with. So, I have had serious issues with my tf201 from day one, but Asus & SMS Infocomm has resonded quickly and exceeded my expectations every time. I straight up told the guy (same guy that has taken my tablet all 3 RMA's) this last time, that it was my fault the tablet is bricked. Told him it is unloacked and I messed it up. Asus, still warranted it and no charges to me.
With all that being said, I don't think there are enough positive experiences being posted on here. I would like to see more positivity.
Also, this is making me seriously consider getting an Asus Transformer Book i7 when they are available!
true that tf200 sucks big time especially for its price tag at time of release.
1. gps doesn't work
2. wifi is piss poor
3. slow i/o
4. dead camera within 9 months
5. volume is soft
1+2 is alleviated with dongle which is goodwill on asus side.
3 is a downer. my sgs2 can install apps much quicker.
5 i use loudness app
To answer your lack of positive threads in this forum, i believe most tf200 like me are satisfied with our mainstream usage. People with negative experiences are much much more likely to voice out their opinions.
androwookie rom is amazing. you shd give it a try.
in short, tf200 is beta product. some HW flaws can be fixed by rma. SW lag can be improved by custom roms.
Given a choice, if I had perfect information, I would have skipped the Prime or Asus tablets entirely and bought Windows 8 Tabs.

I think it's a good deal more profound than that, consider: what sort of person goes to a modding forum to ask for help? someone who is happy with the device? or someone who is unhappy and wants to change it ?
I bought my TF201 in Jan of last year and it has been rockin' the whole time, The only issue I have noticed of those listed is that there are some minor lag issues with JB, but only when I use certain apps. (firefox mobile lags, dolphin does not.
In that time I have not been very active on XDA at all, thus have not posted my positive review- I haven't had a reason to come here
The only reason I'm here now Is that I'm bored today and don't have much else to do.
I work tech support and we see this all the time- we get calls from about 10% of the users, and they are unhappy. No one else calls tech support because they don't break their computers
Good points.
I just like tinkering with these things and have had no problems with my phones when rooting, unlocking, and installing custom roms. I am, however, having hell with this thing. I follow steps to the tee and brick it every time. So I'm done messing with it now. It's not as laggy now as when I sent it in. Maybe there was yet another update between the time I bricked it and they re-flashed it.
I would like to say that SMS Infocomm has been fast as hell fixing this thing for me and it has always been free of charge to me. Although they scratched it once the 2nd time, and scuffed it up this time (3rd rma). Very unhappy about the scuffing. You pay $600 for something............rant avoided.
Anyway, my experience with the rma process has been extensive and I'm very happy with the turn around time.
Anybody have any thoughts on the transformer book tx300?
Its good to hear that story!
I am right there with you... rooted and unlocked tons of devices; LG, Samsung, and HTC, and ive never had any issues. The TF201 i managed to brick with hardly any ROM'ing at all.. And I am ridiculously careful!
Anyways, I ALMOST posted mine on Ebay for parts, but decided to pull it and just try an RMA first, even though i was fully aware it had no warranty anymore and I had personally bricked it. Its been about two weeks now (much longer than I had expected) and the status is still "product is being repaired." Its been that way for about a week now. Hopefully since I wasnt already contacted about the cost, they are indeed fixing it under warranty. If so, I will be more than delighted.... but I will be selling that mother for a Nexus 10 straight away

I agree. I bought mine right when they came out in December and never had any problems until the JB update, and that was just a little lag. I didn't post anything on here because I didn't have any problems, so i was just lurking around on here. Any questions I had I asked on a transformer specific forum that I was already a member of. I think the prime gets a worse reputation that it deserves because the people posting are the minority of owners, and the silent majority are content with their purchases. I only returned mine because getting a full refund for a year old tablet was too good to pass up, so I returned it and got a new laptop.
