The activity on this thread answers the question. Not much.

It's the best phone out right now and not to mention the ridculous low price for specs. but not much development. Still a keeper

I haven't even rooted the phone, don't feel a need to. I used to root to change dpi and block ads. Now Nougat has built in dpi settings, and i just use Adguard. Plus Android Pay will work, so that's nice.

No machine with locked out bootloader will keep strong developement. I'm a little dissapointed.

Bootloader is locked out. It can be unlocked with a code from Huawei. This may seen easy but an unlocked bootloader from start should be more easy.

It took five minutes to unlock my bootloader ...... Same amount as it took to unlock my HTC phones
Where many Samsung phones NEVER could unlock
I still don't understand

unlocked or not you still dont have full system write. these devices dont get much if any development because huawei doesnt release proper source. thats why I returned mine.

Full system write working for me. Use the boot.img here in post 29: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ma...ocker-root-t3546650/post70927374#post70927374
EDIT: sorry, missed that you returned yours .

Im thinking of getting this phone. The specs seem great. Have a 6P now but have had a lot of issues with it in the past few months.

Developement status about L800

Im starting to regret that i bought this phone.
DLOAD bootloader still locked after a half of year. No active developer and no interest from the famous DFT team. Shame. What do you think i want a unlocked phone, should i sell my lumia 800 ?
Regards,
Oli

Oh im not joking I dont really see any inprovements in Lumia 800 DLOAD developement I see amazing custom ROMs for unlocked ones but no progress in DLOAD unlocking, quite a pitty
fyi man i dont mean it badly
i agree. And finding a qualcomm one is a *****,found one with 2.3 and eaaarly firmware,it was still DLOAD One nasty thing is we won't get wp8,and probably when devices with wp8 appear, dust will settle on our loved lumia 800

It's not like our devices will stop to working when WP8 is released. Another thing: no one is preventing you from messing around with the bootloader, there is a lot of information in the Dev. thread to get you started on working with the BL. And saying there is no progress in Development and Hacking on the Lumia 800 is just plain wrong...
No,it will not stop working, but there is no development for us with DLOAD bootloader(90% percent if not more)...

How is there no development? Developers will still try to target as much devices as possible. And you call a 103 page thread about the bootloader no development?
yes since nothing has been achieved?103 pages,2 pages, same to me if it doesn't work

What are you referring to by "doesn't" work? The technique there works for every Lumia 710 user and some Lumia 800 users. The thread contains valuable information about the bootloader itself and the filesystem on the phone. By saying that "nothing has been achieved" you are ignoring and offending the hard work of tenths of developers that risked bricking their devices by doing pioneer work. This thread has a great number of explained approaches how different levels of unlocks could be achieved and discusses how the current methods are blocked. Even by reading the last two pages you can see that there is still some movement. But most users just come here and complain without even trying to help to improve the situation.
If a fully unlocked phone is your priority, and the features that comes with it, you've chosen the wrong OS. Don't buy a phone expecting it to be unlockable. Your fault really.
Buy an android if you want a hacked device.

Im not really talking about OS. Im a .NET developer and i want to experiment with interlop services in developement, also all of the otger devices like HTC Titan are fully unlocked so its a shame that Lumia family stays locked and even if i read whole DEV tread and i know everything about bootloaders in lumias, nothing interesting was achieved in DLOAD territory DEV thread is now filled with speculations but not with the actual progress.
Well, there's an easy solution for $99/yr

No root at the end of the tunnel

I was just wondering why all the other phones have roots except for the Galaxies?
Some say it is because the providers are locking the bootloader. The question is; are those providers locking the Galaxy bootloader only?
Does anyone think this will make people move from Galaxy to other [rootable] models?
Honestly, this is the first Samsung phone in where I don't think you need root. They allow themes, it's awesome on battery, runs really smoothly, and offers a ton of features that work well. The only reason I ever modded my phone was to increase the longevity and add to it's features... something I haven't really needed on this phone. So I doubt it. I hope they come out with Oreo soon...

Just FYI but if you did a search here on XDA you'd discover that the Snapdragon S8 has had root for a few months now. It's doubtful that we'll see an unlocked bootloader though. Search is your friend!

Thanks for the input. I saw the root, however, I'm debating whether to root or not. The version listed there is older than what we have. And, like Mr. eatmeimadanish mentioned I haven't had a need for rooting so far. It's just I miss the nice ROMs that different people were putting up with so many more tweaks and stuff. And, there are some applications that work on rooted phones, which I'm unable to use anymore.

I haven't rooted either. I'm happy with my S8+ as is. Besides, I use Samsung Pay all the time. Also, without an unlocked bootloader there won't be any custom roms.

But also....this will be an unlocked bootloader so no custom Roms

1) S8 Snapdragon root . It looks like it's been cleaned up quite a bit since the last time I saw it. Keep in mind, it's not the easy process that we used to have, so read, read and then read again. I personally have not done it as I'm happy with my S8+ as is.
2) Correct, no unlocked bootloader = No custom ROMs.
3) No, the S5 bootloader was unlocked, which is why we had some great Roms. I miss MOAR, but life changes, I've moved on.
Off the topic but, I remember u Ramer from the S5 MOAR thread. I had that rom on my s5 also. I love my s8+ as well.

I saw the rooting thread, and even downloaded the files. But I'm hesitating if I should root or not. The thread is closed, which means it's not keeping up with the updates. Although, we all say we're happy with the phone as is. But, are we really?

I believe that you are new here and don't know that the huawei phones would not enable us to install stock roms and we are not able now to unlock the bootloader anymore for free lol.
So there is no custom roms dear
Wtf how am I supposed to unlock the bootloader then I need more information quickly so I can cancel my purchase. Is it impossible to unlock bootloader now

Depends on your firmware. If Security Patch is June or later you won't be able to, at least not if you're on C432.
If you are on security patch may or earlier you will be able to use HCU client to get unlock code, but it's paid.
I can only confirm that it's not possible to get unlock code on C432B145+, I can't confirm for other cust but it will most likely be the same.
Edit: if it's a brand new phone it will likely come with factory firmware, unless the shop you bought it from updated it.
Even if I was able to unlock think it's likely that development will be very limited would I be right in thinking this.

I wouldn't say "limited" it depends what your looking for, obviously the best device development is for OnePlus and Pixels imo, but we still have RessurectionRemix, LineageOS, CarbonROM & OmniROM, that's 4 pretty recognisable ROM's :good:
Link to ROM's : https://openkirin.net/download/
To be honest, I had my first Mate 10 Pro rooted, and apart from an Ad blocker and YouTube Vanced there wasn't much I felt any need to install. Now Vanced can be installed without root, and Ad Blocker can run on various browsers, I don't see much point.
The Mate 10 Pro is a brilliant phone, I'm seriously considering selling my S9+ and going back to the 10 Pro - the battery life was far better, and I think the camera was better. I also hate the bent sides on the screen on the Samsung. Only thing I might missis Samsung Pay, but I'll just go back to contactless card.
Thanks to you guys and some further reasearch i was able to reach out to the person on ebay i had bought the phone from and cancel the purchase after explaining the situation with bootloader. I am still reeling from Huwaweis decision to stop bootloader unlocking and hope they one day reverse this decision. I really had my heart set on the mate 10 for obvious reasons but possible lack of bootloader unlock is just a no no for me on my current phone a xiaomi mi6 i regularly change roms and kernels sometimes twice a week so i certainly could not live with being stuck on Mui with no possibility of modifications xposed etc. And i did not want to take the risk of buying to only find out that the bootloder had been patched or something and id be stuck.
So now i have turned my attention to either the oneplus 5 or perhaps galaxy s8plus. Again thanks for your help guys.

the bootloader unlocl quota has been met

so no more people will be getting the unlock script. we are officially **** out of luck until someone figures it out themselves.

OPPO is really crazy ....
Never saw a shìt like this thing.
Their SW Development Team is completely without any Skill.
European and Global variants of Find X that should be the most FREEDOM variants are completely abandoned instead.

Yeah they should have the same set up as OnePlus with OxygenOS, with the ease of unlocking the bootloader. ColorOS is a shambles and other than the software the find X is an amazing device.

Where did you read that from?
I can't believe that no one has searched for the file before unlocking.
But there again, we can;t get hold on the euro rom.
But it looks like selling it soon. Never again oppo
I'm not 2 sure but i think 1500 limit is for the 15 of every month that's all they unlocking at a time
It's ridiculous though especially when OnePlus it is very easy to unlock and flash. Also ColorOS well I will refrain from profanity.
Oppo are part of the same and it would be much better if they used a stock like OS much like OxygenOS.
This would make the Find X for me just sublime, but as it stands with ColorOS, the device is a looker but damn is it beeeep in the user experience.
And it looks like wuxianlin won't be posting the file\script that we need on his site.
Does anyone know of a way to mass tweet?
It's for education purposes

So I doubt oppo gives a **** about us oppo find X owners.
It's crazy Oppo released one of the best designed phones of 2018. Software is it's only let down, I mean I'm still on the October security patch.
Such a great device but even Oppo just after months have forgotten about it, or so it seems.
hi, nobody succed to root find x ?? really ? nobody ? why oppo don't want ?? before having the find x, i had the R7s and there was an apk, oppotools ,to root it !!!! why oppo want we root R7s and other but not the X ????? i don't understand what oppo do this !!!!!:confus::confus::confus:
Oppo
It's incredible vibe I do not understand, I can not sell it anymore.

[ROOT] Any Updates on Root?

I currently own the US model of this device. I've done some digging in the forums but I never really come up with very much. If anyone could help I'd be willing to try just about anything to get this phone rooted as long as there's a recovery option. I've read in other threads that the European model can be rooted but the US version has no such luck. If anyone has anymore information please post a reply I would love to get a discussion started. Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, yes your appear to be right. I haven't been able to find anything on this device as far as the U.S. version goes anyway. Apparently, the European version has already been rooted with Magisk and an unlocked bootloader. Although no one has said much of anything about this one. I hope there some development soon!!

• LG V50S: LMG850EMW/LMG850EMWX for the European market
This is the LG G8X (check your device info).
We'll probably have to wait for Firehose to be released for LG Snapdragon 855 to have any hopes for unlocking on Non EU variants
No bootloader unlock available? Was checking developer settings and was able to turn on OEM unlock. Would really like to see some AOSP ROMs available for this phone.
I am very glad to be getting replies here. However, US models are still unrootable as far as I can tell its not listed for the US region but is listed for EU. So far no new updates. Please keep the conversation alive though!! Need a developer to start cracking down on this device please!
If anyone knows any developer's willing to work on this device I will quite literally give them payment to develop a working root method for this device. No joke. I'm not very sure how much power developers have over this device. But I would really love to find out.

How would I go about doing this? Not all that familiar with Xda honestly. I rooted my old phone thanks to this site but I wouldn't know how to contact any developers on this subject.
A shame that this high end phone does not yet have root/rom. (in u.s.) You can pick these up fairly inexpensively (on ebay..as I did)
Hope LG is able to get bootloader unlocked one day or I may have to go back to Xiaomi / Oneplus
I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Well considering this same device is rooted it would likely mean that eventually we will have something. It might take awhile however. The EU version is definitely rooted and even compatible with Magisk having an unlocked bootloader is fantastic. Especially in this time. However since our country is a bit more controlling when it comes to phone data we may not see one until this device is obsolete. Meaning that LG will have made their money on it and therefore feel safe releasing a bootloader unlock officially..
