Hey guys.
Today I found myself facing moisture inside my camera after giving the Z2 a small kitchen sink wash using only the water coming from the tap.
After an hour, when i went to take a picture, it was all foggy and to my surprise, the lens was completly obstructed by condensated water.
I read 1 fix on XDA and the rest of the internet -> return it, ask for a brand new one.
Well, if you are like me and don't usually take it for a bath or go into a pool (odd enough i had put it on the sink full of water for half an hour and nothing happened), there is a "fix" for it, which I got from common sense. What i mean by common sense is that if you heat water it evaporates, but since the camera is, i suppose, a bit isolated from the rest, you cannot just let the water go away on it's own, you have to give it some help.
So, what i did was: 1 - TURN OFF YOUR PHONE; 2- open both flaps; 3- Heat the phone with a hair dryer (i really mean heat it, so the watter does not return to liquid state imediatelly) 4 - Suck the moisture out from the left side (closest to the camera) flap with your mouth; 5 - WAIT FOR IT TO COOL BEFORE YOU TURN IT ON; 6 - go take a well deserved picture.
It goes away in a day at most anyway, it's simple science hot air hitting cold air = condensation, it's unavoidable

If the water is inside it does not come out in a day, the phone is sealed in.
Even if it did, this is an easy fix and gets rid of the water inside your phone, so your answer manages to add no value.
Nor does your so called fix

i had this on my xperia z1 after a day of been cinstantly damp and intermitantly soaked but my phone was hot from use. When i opened the ports it all cleared up within a minute

Your phone has a lot of expressly sensitive electrical components. I don't think it's advisable to heat it like this unless you want to fry components and loosen the glue that holds stuff together.

Have the same few days ago. And did the same without hairdryer. First cold water from sink. After pass waterproof test i got phone with me to shower. After that i saw condesation inside. I almost died,one week old phone. But i open flaps, do everything without no.3, + sillica gel for 2 days , laying on the warm heater one night. Now everything is good, everything works, indicator under microsd flap is white. I think everthing is cool, what's yours opinion?

same happened to me, just washing grease off phone using tab water. so does this only effect the glass on top of the camera? is the rest of the phone actually still waterproof? i'm a bit confused, so does this proof that our ip58 actually working or not? i never had this problem with my z1
Ah yes I remember that happening back when my Xperia Z initially died on me.
what would you guys recommend i do? repair it or just give up on it?
I have new phone, the old one wasn't waterproof. So if you can - repair i think.

I've done so many ways to eliminate the moisture in my z3 lens .. with the rice , silica gel .. and it still kept coming back
but with your way , the moisture inside my phone immidiately gone and the way is logical as well ..

I had the same problem and fixed it. And a question remain that can I use my phone in water? My mind says no. Is there any way to get ? back?

I did the same thing only I used a vacuum cleaner instead of my mouth
For the common sense; the phone turns itself off if it reaches to almost 100°C. If a passively cooled CPU is allowed to reach that high it means the back cover which is supposed to handle both the heat of the SoC and the battery, is also safe against temperatures that human skin can not.
I believe hair drier makers are also aware of human skin's sensitivity to heat, and design their products according to that.
So using a hair drier to a mobile device not more than you use it on your hair, which is generally wet with the risk of over heating, from the same distance should make no harm on the device.

I used my table lamp to heat the water.
Thank you badjoras, it works for my z3 that I have left at the bottom of the pool for 5 minutes. The condensation occured even after the phone has successfully passed the pressure (barometer) test before swimming. I used heat gun from a safe distance (30-40 cm) for a few seconds before sucking the air using my mouth, and repeated the procedure for three or four times before all the water disappeared.
I know I'm not the first to write a thread like this, and I doubt I'll be the last but....
Took my XZU in the swimming pool with me today, and it has not survived. I made extremely sure all flaps were securely fastened beforehand. Even checked that there was no dirt in the seals. I was in the shallow end of the pool, which is only ~0.5M deep, and yet after 5 mins in the water recording some vids with the GF, the phone is now dead!
Seems like some water got in behind the volume rocker, so now the phone thinks both volume buttons are permanently pressed, leading to a bootloop when trying to turn the phone on as effectively the power+vol up+vol down buttons are all pressed.
I am not impressed! I've taken the phone in the shower with me before without any problems, and tested the waterproofing in the kitchen sink before too, so I expected it to be fine. However it seems this time I was unlucky!
Moral of the story: While the XZU is waterproof(ish)... don't take it in the pool unless you don't care about the phone too much! There is a fair chance it will not survive. Personally I'm now hoping the old "leave it in a bag of rice" trick will help.

It's ironic how they show ads for the XZU getting toyed around in a swimming pool yet the official documentation states that the phone not be submerged in the swimming pool, sea water, solventents etc.
Sorry to hear. I took mine in the pool several times and did not have any problems. Though I did not submerge it for more than a few seconds at a time.
I was unimpressed, as the touchscreen was nigh impossible to use with wet hands. They should have included a dedicated camera button like on the smaller xperias.
Folks around me were impressed though. They could not believe I had the audacity to bring a phone anywhere near water.
I wonder how many dead S5 there has been from water?
There's a reason why it's not rated the same as a divers' watch. IPxx ratings vs NEMAxx ratings. I just lol-ed when I saw the rating, wondering how many people understand what's the meaning, what it takes to pass the test (to be able to say it's rated for it). Same goes with waterproof professional DSLRs and lenses, and how most end up broken out of warranty. Ask me how I know..
Quick update on this: The phone remained screwed for a LONG time, but in the end it is now once again working fine! :good: I had to leave the phone in a bag of rice for a week before the power/volume buttons began working properly and the phone stopped rebooting. The power button is still a little unresponsive even now, but at least the phone is back to full working order. :good:
coming from a xperia z and expecting my z ultra today(SO EXCITED, HURRY UPS !) this has me a little concerned.
im not the type to go into a pool with my phone, or even show off to my friends that i can dump my phone into a glass of water(whats so practical about that?) but i am the type to rinse my phone under the faucet probably once a day.
with my xperia z, before i knew about the gap problem in the glass i would do this, and it caused water damage.
i want to be able to wash my xperia z ultra under water without having any concerns!

Why the need to wash every day?
Mine has been damp (rain) a few times, and properly wet twice (videos of giant kokopu).
I wouldn't trashed mine swimming or into the shower, but I do exist it to survive in a steamy kitchen or bathroom, or an outer pocket when it rains. Being able to play Ingress and not worry about a few spots of rain is nice.
Ad the title says, be warned fellow OnePlus 2 users! As of about 3months of ownership, 3 features of my op2 have broken due to water damage, without ever getting water in the phone. Simply by leaving my phone in my bathroom during my morning shower, the finger print scanner and both cameras stopped working. The fingerprint scanner broke about a month ago after stopping for days at a time and hadn't worked since, I assumed that the damage was due to water entering the phone via the vapor from my warm showers. Just this morning, while keeping my phone a safe distance from my shower, water entered both the rear and front cameras. I managed to fix the rear camera with very light blowdrying and a bag rice, but the front camera has a horrible water "filter" that prevents any light from being detected. Obviously, km extremely angry with OnePlus quality control, never in 6 years of smartphone ownership has something like this been an issue, but I guess it's my fault for purchasing the phone. Be wary and keep your phone away from any water!
Never left my phone in the washroom when showering. Thought this was common sense. Unless they made it air tight, steam will be getting into the tiny gaps between the home button and case, or the camera lens. This is better than my TF101 which literally have a layer of dust on the inside of the rear camera lens.

I don't think you get the point, it was a good 5 ft from the shower with moderately warm water with a vent and window open. There was not a large amount of humidity at all. I understand it is not wise to leave it like this but there was very little moisture in the room, and it was there for a maximum of 7 minutes. The fingerprint scanner broke by washing my hands then touching my phone. I understand I should not have had it in the room in the first place, but there is clearly a quality assurance issue when it comes to water, no other phone has had a problem like this for me, and that includes accidental submersion of my opo. I'm simply warning people to not make the same mistake I have, albeit I don't consider it too much of a mistake rather than too much trust in my phone
I think I've seen a thread like this for every device on xda (slight hyperbole).
Electronics and moisture/humidity don't go together.

I will accept the blame for the cameras, but the home button I honestly don't understand how a drop of water destroys it. I regret creating this thread, I didn't mean to sound rude or unappreciative, I was just fed up and in the moment. I fixed my front facing camera but my home button is still unresponsive. Don't make the mistakes I have, consider this thread merely a warning, don't be stupid (like me)
Seriously - I've taken ALL my phones into the bathroom with me so far, including those that were waterproof and those that weren't. NEVER had any issues, even when I showered with the windows closed. So I don't think a phone should break like that. And it makes me afraid to take my OPT out when it's raining or when I'm in the snow, if a slight bit of water can mess with the fp sensor like that (read in another thread that a user simply pressed the home button with a wet finger and it stopped working.)
Well, i bring my OPO n OP2 oftenly to bathroom, so i can read news and elses while doing what we all know, hahaha.
but when i'm showering i always put it inside my pants pocket.
so far no harm is caused by doing so...
yes, anytime there are openings in a device which would allow water or vapor in there should be added protection around that point. it's known as ingress protection or ip rating. the oneplus one has no ingress proection certification, my guess is the two also is not certified.
I've used my OPT in slight rain and I also like to listen to music while showering and its working like it is supposed to.
While this doesn't really help, it's crazy how much the device can vary unit to unit. With the ones reporting pretty much no submersion but taking bad water damage to this one:

Maybe using a decent case that covers up the phone will help in situations like this? on the flip side, i have taken almost every phone i own into the bathroom regularly and never had this kind of an issue...and it gets quite steamy in my bathroom when I'm showering...i take my Sony Z5P in there now and never had an issue...what I don't understand is that the One Plus Two was shown in commercials with water all over it no? Or that may have been the One...I thought this phone could handle usage in rain, etc with no issue...surely that's worse than humidity right? I think maybe you just got a defective phone or there may be something not working properly on the mainboard....I'd RMA it.

Dude, do you know that the Samsung Galaxy core gets damaged if the humidity is above 55%?
You've exposed a phone to about 90%+ humidity and you expect it to survive?
And I take my op2 to the toilet everyday. I'm typing from it right now.
Not meaning to contradict this but... I always take a shower while listening to music in my OP2 and nothing bad had happened to it (and I use a lot of hot water which causes a big amount of vapor). I've even splashed (accidentally) some water on it. I already have one month and 9 days with the phone working fine.

Just my 2 cents but guy c'mon a shower is common to fog plus have driplets or droplets dripping down the mirrors 12 feet away every single time I shower and you really think OnePlus is at fault here....
This is where So Called flagship companies win out in the majority's minds, Because every minor or major issue brought on by the avg. slow person (sorry but really chief) they just cover the device with a simple warranty and just replace replace replace.
I'd rather save $600.00+ on my Non Contracted Device from @oneplus and let people like you just go buy a Biphone or get a Samsung whatever the drones buy these days....
Stop Blaming OnePlus for your shortcomings in this life people it is just your cellphone.
In my opinion a damn good one coming from a OPO and after that a Nexus 5 all were priced right but definetly still improving every purchase.
Idk but i wash my op2 sometimes with water under a running tap and its completely fine.[emoji14] (only when it gets pretty dirty)

I've left this thread quiet for months now and have clearly taken back my comments. You don't understand the environment the phone was in, this shouldn't have happened, and other users have reported using their phone IN the shower. It's obviously not normal for so many hardware features to break when I've done this with no issues on every other smartphone I own. I'm not blaming OnePlus , maybe I'm just blaming my own model, but the events I went through are absolutely not normal

Well, I drop my phone while doing my dishes. I put it like 2 or 3 times in the water since 6 months.
Before going to sleep I shut it down because it was going crazy thinking a headset is connected/disconnected due to the water in the connector.
Then this morning, impossible to power it on. Water behind the camera glass.
It looks like water entered from the trap (that I opened only 2 times...), the water test sticker is now orange.
I have to admit I'm little disappointed, I put my Z far more times in the water without any problem, and this one who benefits years of R&D, died after 2 showers.
I suppose Sony don't care of this issue in the guaranty ?
You can try, but if i remember right they have stated that if water has entered inside phine then user has left flap/flaps open
You shouldn't have opened that flap at all but let the phone dry. The headset connected/disconnected problem is somehow normal and it goes away after some drying. It happened to me too and I let the phone for a few tens of minutes, with the socket facing the exhaust of the laptop fan (while giving the laptop some numbers to crunch).
Why would you put it in water? Sounds like a case for karma.

The device is certified waterproof for fresh (and pure) water only. Substances such as soap or harsh chemicals can damage or remove waterproof adhesives.
There is also the possibility that you have been unlucky.
That's why Sony phones are no longer waterPROOF: people always put the phone through various situations and then say something like "but it says it is waterproof!".
I washed mine in the sink under running tap water. It came out just fine. Washed it because my kid spilled soda on it.
They are WaterPROOF
I had the Z3 Compact about a year ago and that was waterproof. I put it under water many times, I got soaked in the rain completely with my new Z5 Compact and it is fine. I also used it in a swimming pool with no problem what so ever.
Also to prove they are waterPROOF,
"IP 68 Enclosures - IP rated as "dust tight" and protected against complete, continuous submersion in water."
Continuous submersion, so continuously going under water.
If your Z5C broke then it's most likely because of the three factors:
Faulty Phone
Open flaps
Left in water too long
That's all I can think of anyway

Had exactly the same problem, I sent the phone for warranty repair and got a brand new one .

I registered few minutes ago. Because i need say really important thing to you. I tried to take photos under the water. Depth was only 30cm. My phone started to say water moistorizing in usb. After that it started to charging slowly. I went to authorized lg service. They said water disrupt on your usb and they take my 45$. My cameras glass broken. My luck. So they said your back glass can broken while we are opening your phone. It is really bull****. I am trying to tell do not interact your phone with water.
Edit: Guys my phone came back. And still it is not fixed. What should i do? I want destroy their service.
My phone still have problem. It is not charging if it is charging with fast charging. I mean if there is fast charging logo on battery. It stops charging and adapter making not charging noise(Sound after full charge or no phone plugged). And it is disconnecting and reconnecting(charging logo going then it is appearing again. Stopping and starting i mean).

Rule of dumb when having a water resistant phone, even if it's water resistant, still avoid water getting on it.
A car has airbags for safety, doesn't mean go wreck it to see if they work ctfu..

I do not agree, If the phone is IP 68. So you can be use it underwater.

Try it out, let me know how it goes.
It works perfectly underwater the recorded video and the taken photos then let it dry for at least 1 hour even the done air with the mouth to draw the water that has inside the loading port.

The phone is NOT water proof.
It's water resistant, there is a huge difference.
It's meant for accidents, not really for taking it underwater for pictures.
I used my g6 in pool, I was there about 2 hours and phone was at least 20 minutes underwater in total.
Recorded some videos, made a lot of photos. Everything works perfectly, after I came back home I let it dry in rice, after about 2 hours I restarted it and there is no problems till now at all. It was 4-5 months ago

According LG UK website,the phone is IP 68 :

If you can find where is states "waterproof" and not "water resistant" I'll buy you a new G6.
I repair phones for a living. These companies pick their words very carefully.
@Red2Kit In my case depth was about 200-250cm and it's still working perfectly without any issues.

I think it is my luckiness but i dont understand why phone stopping charge if it get in to fast charge.
Water Resistant
I have taken my G6 swimming with me several times, mostly been fine.
I also had the "moisture detected" error, but I was able to solve it by rinsing out the charging port with distilled water, and using something like a toothpick to rub the usb pins clean in the port while the water was in it.
After that I blew it out and let it dry for a while, and charging fixed.
I think dirt or salt builds up on the USB pins and causes a false moisture detection.
I think normal there is not word to say. LG say clear: The Phone is for Water until 1,5m and not longer then 30mins. What is the Problem in the discription? And the word "waterproof" is not shown even the word "water resist" So it is useless to compare both cause LG not use one of These words Right? The Phone is Ready for 1,50 sweet Water and 30mins. end

Lg says "no guarantee will be applied in case of damage related to water" so end
The IP68 rating means the phone was gently placed in a clean fresh water tank 1.5m deep for 30 minutes. It was not used or moved during that time.
Using or moving the phone underwater can create stresses on the phone and the seals. This can lead to water penetration. Exposure to pool water, salt water, drinks, etc is different and my lead to penetration.
Many watches are labeled for water resistance, which is very different than waterproof. Google a guide to water resistant ratings for watches, and you will find that the depth rating is very mis-leading. Not to mention that the rating is not good forever. The seals can and do degrade over time, so that after some time, the device is no longer water resistant.
I used my phone multiple times in the sea , salty water ! And it is working perfectly fine
Used mine in the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. Spent loads of time in and under water. Still working perfectly.
I used my g6 under water in a pool, I had it in my pocket and it was submerged for at least 3-4 hours continuously. I took photos and recorded videos with it. I didn't even let it dry. After a 1 hour drive home I immediately plugged it in and it didn't even say that there is moisture into the usb port. And I usually take it with me when I'm swimming twice a week. I have been doing this for 6 months now and it still works perfectly. Ops phone was probably a defective unit.

I regularly wash my phone with tap water, then wipe it with LCD screen cleaner and leave it to dry for like... 30 minutes in direct sun or in warm place (not hot!).
I had "moisture detected" a couple of times but usually it went away after some time.
Never, I repeat, NEVER be that dumb like me - I washed my Xperia Z3 Compact many times, as well as my G6... but I accidentally used soap while cleaning G6 once and it was almost a disaster... It took HOURS for the water to dry off my USB port, bottom and front speaker, also from my headphone jack as soap changes how water behaves... I thought I killed it but it is perfectly fine now... but think twice
