Guide/tutorial Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 factory reset - how to install a stock ROM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There are many reasons to reset the S2 to the factory state - if all else failes. An example: The custom ROM does not want to run, you say after many desperate tries: Damn, now I give up!
A factory reset is easy. All you need for this is in the attachment (except the latest stock ROM, which is much too large for an upload here). It's available on SamMobile for your country, you only have to register, it's for free. Now first charge your battery to 100%.
Hint: The Pit files must be unzipped!
1. Install on your Windows PC the Samsung drivers. These are important that your PC will recognize the phone.
2. Unzip Odin to any folder on your PC (ex: Odin)
3. Put your S2 into the download mode (press the buttons home, power and volume down at the same time).
4. Connect your phone to your PC via USB cable and start Odin as an administrator (important!).
5. Load the one-part stock ROM in Odin into PDA, the stock 2GB Pit file into PIT. Now hit the start button and the flash goes on.
6. Wait until the blue bar on the phone screen has gone through and the green display PASS! appears in Odin. It takes a few minutes, be patient. CAUTION: Don't disconnect or turn off your phone, until the flash is finished. Otherwise you risk a brick!
7. Welcome back to stock ROM! If you don't want to flash a custom ROM, you can stop reading here.
So now we want to flash the custom ROM. This needs more space, the phone must to be repartitioned.
1. Go through steps 1-6 above, but load the Pit file 1GB_6GB into Odin instead of stock 2GB Pit.
2. After the stock ROM is running, turn your phone off and put it into download mode.
3. Start Odin and load the TWRP recovery in PDA, press the start button. Wait until recovery is started.
4. In recovery, go to Wipe/Extended Wipe. Choose from: Cache, Dalvik Cache, System, Data and wipe it all.
5. Copy the custom ROM (perhaps a SU to have root access) and Google Apps (GApps) from your PC to the internal SD card (eMMC).
6. Go to Install in recovery, select the ROM and then the GApps, perhaps it is a separate SU needed to install to have root access later. Is everything installed, wipe the cache/dalvik cache and reboot the system. It takes several minutes, best drink a cup of coffee.
7. Welcome to the custom ROM setup!

[Q] my phone is DEAD

Did my frist flash and now everything is messed up (JL2 seeARMS) - for the belli9000m
basically I can get into my phone - but everything is black (i can't see anything other than the status scren) and the home/back button doesn't work - can't see nothing else
I did a factory reset, wipe, cache, etc. everything - and reinstalled the ROM via CWM yet still nothing works
I desperately need help
Install the correct Bell rom via Odin, not CWM. That should fix it.
you mean to start all over kinda thing ? like download the correct Bell JL2 rom (the official one) and use ODIN to install it ?
I still don't understand why everything is blank - like i can pull down status bar and select voicemal to make a call, receive txts even, but nothing else is there - nothing
how does this even happen
Well it's weird, I'll give you that, but your phone is far from "DEAD". Probably some files are failing to load, or were not included in that ROM that you flashed. Flashing the official one will fix it.

ok last question - once I find / dl the original firmware from bell/samsung (JL2) - and I go into download mode and use ODIN - WHAT BOXES DO I TICK/CHECK - because I've only used odin to flash a kernal (and just used pda) I can assume it's not the same as I'll need the original kernal correct ?
do I tick all the boxes? any tutorials on this I'm lost.
also, how big are these files - i am at work behind a firewall so I can't dl the original firm ware from
http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm
but I need the JL2
if anyone wants to d/l it and email it to me it would be awesome
[email protected]
The files are big (~160MB), I don't think they will fit in your gmail
Here's the download link from samfirmware.com for I9000UGJL2
http://www.multiupload.com/6GRS1OWRJW (password is samfirmware.com)
You just select the .tar file in Odin in the PDA field, don't tick anything else, and flash. Example below:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

Anyway, before you do all that, have you tried wiping the phone from recovery mode? It might help.
You can also try asking seeARMS for help in his thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906977

I know how to get back to stock now - i am just curious about how to re-flash the rom - I want to get this rom on my phone.
I tried flashing it again via CWM - it's even worse, i get into android, but it's blank, black, nothing's there, no buttons work, etc.
so what I was SUPPOSED to do was unzip the original rom .zip file and delete the extra stuff ? then rezip it and flash THAT file via CWM ?
that wasn't in the instructions -- look at the instructions it gives you 2 options:
-------------
"1. Download and extract the file you downloaded above to the root of your internal SD card (both the "seearms" folder and the .ZIP ROM file).
If you would like to customize your install, continue doing step 2. If you would like a stock install with all the applications + SpeedMod kernel + JL2 modem + Generation X theme, skip to step 3"
3. Boot into recovery, and select "Install zip from sdcard".
4. Select "Choose zip from sdcard", and scroll to the ROM.
------------
I did what it said - I did a stock install and skipped to step 3 without doing 2a-2e (custom install)
no where in the instructions did it say I had to open up the .zip file and delete contents then rezip it and flash that file
I need to know how to flash this "custom" rom as per the instructions via seeARM himself -- i didn't do the "custom" and that's what messed me up
ok i flashed with stock JL2 and now i get 10000 force closes
why is this ? anyone ?

[GUIDE] HOW TO FIX your unflashable or soft bricked GSII

Hello everyone!
I thought that this forum is more appropriate to post this, to avoid any new "lulz i r borked" threads. Plus, I had good feedback on the other flrum section
This is a guide dedicated to noobs, so if you're not one, I would advise to stop reading now! (altough feedback would be great! )
Yes, there have been quite a few threads about fixing a soft brick. But what I'm writting now is another solution to a different kind of problem : unflashable GSII (which also works with a soft brick of course ), which is a soft brick and a corrupted NAND rw (read/write) function.
Just in case you don't know, a soft brick occurs when you flash a ROM or Kernel, and it doesn't go your way, thus bricking the "soft part", aka Software, of your phone. Therefore, it is easy to recover from. Now, regarding NAND rw (NAND's read and write function being the corruption) it means that it is an issue deeper than a soft brick. It is obvious when you can flash a kernel, but you can't flash a ROM, because it can't properly read the NAND, but can flash a kernel. But you ask, why the kernel? Because flashing a kernel is a bit deeper than flashing a ROM. When you flash a kernel, you're changing/putting new instructions to the hardware, and when flashing a ROM, the instructions that are drewn are different and more "simple", so when flashing, ODIN wkll say "FAIL" instead of "PASS", or suddenly stopping the flash out of nowhere.
Let's start with the basic files, downloads and requirements
1) You have to know the basics of ODIN and flashing (duh )
2) Just to be safe, please uninstall Samsung KIES. It usually interferes when flashing with ODIN. You must have the USB drivers from your phone, so don't uninstall them. Only uninstall the program KIES.
3) Download ODIN, the tool that we'll use to flash all the things into our beloved Galaxy S II
4) Download the necessary files : the Kernel, the Recovery Package and the Bootloader (it's the old one, which you can easily use a USB JIG to reset the counter and remove the yellow triangle when having a custom kernel or OS)
5) You must have WinRAR to unRAR the Recovery Package and to unzip ODIN.
You can also use 7zip, as sugested by jermitano
And that is it! Let's get down to business
If your GSII has the folowing symptoms :
Bootloop
Stuck on GSII logo, but already removed the battery to try to fix it
Enters Download mode and Recovery mode
It means that you are soft bricked and is easy to solve.
But if your symptoms are the mentioned above, PLUS the symptoms below
Enters Download mode but does NOT enter recovery mode (usually means a NAND rw corruption)
Doesn't flash
Bad flash in odin (FAIL after flashing, or the flashing suddenly stops)
Then it means that you have a bigger issue, such as the aforementioned NAND rw corruption.
It's time to open up ODIN and start reviving your phone!
First of all, let's just have a quick glance of how ODIN looks like, and where we should put the files :
{

As the picture clearly shows, the green rectangle is where you can tick. Those 2 which are ticked must remain that way.
ONLY FLASH WITH RE-PARTITION TICKED AND A PIT FILE IF YOU ARE SURE
THAT THE FLASH WILL SUCCEED.
Which means that you CANNOT have a damaged USB, corrupted drivers and such.

When recovering from a soft brick, it is recommended, not mandatory, to have Re-partition ticked with a .PIT file. So you must be extra careful when you are using a .PIT and Re-Partition. And obviously, the red box is the one where you can't and don't want to mess with
But where are the files going, you say?
.PIT -> PIT
CODE -> PDA
MODEM -> PHONE
CSC -> CSC
There is only 1 way to recover a soft bricked phone. How to recover from a NAND corruption? We'll get on that later on
Recovering a soft bricked phone
1) Grab the Recovery Package, and you'll see a bunch of .tar files. Take a look at the names. You'll see CODE, MODEM, CSC and .PIT. Put each one in its place, and tick re-partition.
2) Turn off your phone. Enter Download mode by presing Vol. Up + Home + Power button.
3) Plug in your phone. It will show you, in a yellow box in ODIN, ID:COMx (x being the number displayed, sometimes displays 7, sometimes displays 9)
4) Once ready and done all your prayers, press Start. Wait patiently. It usually takes 5 minutes to flash.
Have you done everything correctly until now? Then...
Congratulations on recovering your phone!
You deserve some cake afterwards, and some rest
Now, if your problem is the NAND rw coruption, and wasn't fixed by the above fix, then follow these steps :
5) Download the Kernel. Flash it in PDA. Without ticking Re-Partitioning
6) Successful? Nice, hope is still present.
7) Flash the recovery package, following steps 1-4 This should fix your issue. If it does not, then :
WARNING : FLASHING A BOOTLOADER IS DANGEROUS. FLASH WITH EXTREME CAUTION.
8) Download the Bootloader. Flash it as PDA or Bootloader in ODIN. Without ticking Re-Partitioning
9) Flash the Kernel, as in step 5
10) Flash the recovery package, like in steps 1-4 And that will fix any of your issues
I hope that this guide was helpful, and if it was, hit the thanks button!
Credits mainly go to Intratech, for his amazing gallery of ROMS and files

[Q] Problems Flashing to CM 10.1...from EH03

I have quoted the steps I have taken.
When I reach Step 17 "Use soft menu key on bottom left of phone and get back to main page in cwm. Find and select install zip from sd, then select chose zip and find the rom you pushed to your sd card in step 2. Select it and it will take you to a secondary menu, arrow down select yes."
The phone immediately restarts... the samsung logo appears with the cyanogen mod logo....boots into recovery and I come to find out that my CWM was updated to CWM (6.0.3.3).
"Warning: No file_contexts" appears at the bottom of my screen and presents an error when I try to access my SD card. "E:Can't Mount /sdcard/
I know how to get it back into working order with EH03....I just want an operating system to instal that is firmware 4.0 or above...
Thanks.

HELP ME - Samsung SM-G925F don't work

Hi, I am asking for help because my samsung s6 edge SM-G925F has restarted and does not work anymore.
If I try to start it only shows the message samsung galaxy and restarts continuously.
It does not enter into recovery mode while running the downloading mode.
I tried to flash it via Odin with its firmware but will not turn on.
What can I do?
Many thanks in advance.
Sounds like it needs a wipe after flashing. If you put it in download mode and use Samsung smart switch then it can do an emergency recovery.

What type of operations have you did? Try this:
1. Go to odin download mode and flash TWRP recovery. Follow full explaination and flash also no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip.
2. Now wipe your system, data, cache, dalvik-cache and sdcard partitions. WARNING: your data will be erased and you can't boot if you willn't flash another firmware.
3. Reboot system also if your phone haven't any operting system installed.
4. Now force download mode and attach your s6 edge to a computer using an original Samsung cable
5. Download by sammobile the lastest firmware: only the correct for your device
6. Start ODIN and flash firmware who you have just downloaded checking only Auto reboot and F. Reset Time.
7. Wait...
8. Now your device will be rebooted: wait 2-5 minutes and enjoy!
If any problem, Write Me in this post.
Thanks for the reply.
I followed the procedure but after flashing TWRP with ODIN, the phone continues to constantly restart the samsung logo, does not enter into recovery mode.
During the process I FLASH pressed UP and home.
(I used Odin v3.11 and TWRP-3.0.2-0-zerolte.img.tar)
What can I do?

Reboot you phone in bootloader and connect to the pc
Download the file inside de google drive link, with name "grus_eea_global_images_V10.2.9.0.PFBEUXM" this is the factory system proporsionated by xioami, this case is the global flavor
Unzip the content, and in the "MiFlash" program configure the route to the folder previously unziped, with your phone connected proced to install run the program

can we use another rom instead of PixelExperience?
2 things:
1 - I seriously messed up my phone with that twrp. Although I was using a more recent version, I don't recommend it. Use redispade twrp instead
2 - You can and you should use another ROM. PE is dead. Just check vendor required and,if different from the one suggested by OP, flash it instead.

Of course, in the example I use this room and in phome is working with some minor bugs, but @elpaablo say that it's nor longer getting support. I recommend you use another room with active development and support

Thanks, this twrp is the only that I test and work, but I don't tested the twrd indicated. And thanks for the info about the rom, I will be updated because in this time I experimented some bugs.
