There are tons of Roms already. Good going. Kudos to devs.

As others said the community and developers threw tons of mods, tweaks, roms, kernels and modifications to us including the newest updates.
5/5 since we have no reason to complain.

A huge crowd here.

Something I don't understand is, which ROMs are for the Snapdragon version and which others are for the mediatek version

Amazing, there's so much development going on, to the point it even gets a bit confusing.

There are ROMs comparatively, BUT not many MIDO users achieved/tried same. Reason....
*UNAWARE* OR *AFRAD* OR *UNREADY* TO TRY.
Just a handful of users (less then 1000 lol) playing on custom ROMs on MIDO.
Compared to other handsets/brands.. *countdown is unlisted* even on forums.
Everytime more on XDA since it is dedicated portal for knowledge.
MI* users
-- stuck on thoughts
-- neglect to change there mind from user percussion.
-- dont go advanceD
-- always stuck on Bootloader
Strongly suggest a required mechanism for daily users to fix regular issues.

Edited a little again.. for mi officials.

This development forum has everything. The phone had its meager and weak beginning from Marshmallow and we are all the way down to Pie! If you are still unsatisfied then you have a wide assortment of custom kernel of all sorts for both battery-saving and performance freaks alike. What more! We even have the community-powered Sailfish OS if you have Android fatigue and the experimental dual boot patcher if you want the best of both worlds! Heck, even the legendary Franco Kernel is in active development for this budget friendly device. Seems like this device would have a long and fruitful life.

One of the few devices to receive such enormous development support. Really good.

Found that the few custom ROMs available are all very good ,easy to install (I am not technically minded )very smooth in their use All of the devs who have applied their know-all to these ROMs should be applauded for their great work , but it does seem to be not very many ROMs for this phone as there is for the other Moto versions out there. Hopefully in the not to distant future more ROMs will be made available and also more updates for all the ROMs .Thank you for all your work so far long may it continue.

I need the blank flash for the Motorola G5 because many of the users have suffered and are suffering from hardbrick in this incredible phone and therefore there is no support for our phone to stay alive or revive.

This phone has a lot of development under the blankets, but no buildbots to make roms. Check my github for instance. https://github.com/Motorola-Common/

You cant go around requesting this, its not easy to make. + we have a way to unbrick already. + the bricks were because the users didnt read the thread on how to not brick the phone
i am loving this phone and what im finding for it so far. had it about a week now. i had an Xperia XA for 2 days before and after many attempts still could not even get it rooted. this one is running LineageOS with a new kernel, rooted, and now making new magisk modules for it
Its a great device, I love the Viper OS ROM, as I've been using cyanogenmod and lineage os for too long j needed a change. The device is 64-Bit, which makes quite a lot of difference for me as my moto G6 Play is only 32bit, and the G5 gets better benchmark results.
Also why is lenovo so bad at innovation compared to Motorola when Google owned moto?

As on January 24, 2018, there is next to zero development for this device, Don't know what it takes to get the developers interested...
I can confirm that zero development right now
With xiaomi.eu rom, miui pro and lineage os we have something for everyone, and that without the sources. now that the source code has been released, the development will really start I guess. we also have aokp and ressurection remix which both look promising. people are just underestimating the effort it takes to create a rom.. the development is not that strong, but when you consider that it's a special device (not everyones taste) and that the sources had just been released it's looking good
Some ROMs are there. But development is extreme slow. Faulty bought.
faulty bought? lol
ok what do you need from 3rd party non-miui rom over miui?
Miui 9 pretty much includes alot of features that 3rd party rom has so there no real point to go for other roms unless you have specific need which doesn't give a good enough reason for any devs to go in and spend their precious time and probably end up with bunch of whiny users asking for update EVERYDAY....
to me, i found by root and install mi-globe rom + install google camera apk pretty much completes this phone already.
no issue spotted. also i'm using Lspeed for system tuning.
you have to learn to adapt the current world.
Yes RR does look promising, but then other phones got RR pretty soon, it's just that this one is taking a good long wait ...
The present RR is unusable BTW..

I think the Mi 8 Lite is not so popular, so the developments seen here appears at a very low rate. I love my Mi 8 Lite, but I think it does not have the required "development-strenght" I would like.

I don't know why this device is not so popular like redmi note 5 pro. it has all the best things in a affordable price. But number of official ROMs are not bad either.
It took my current device (redmi 4 prime) about 1 year to get its first official ROM, so I think Mi 8 lite is doing kinda good here.
BTW I'm probably getting this device in 2-3 days. It's Mi 8 lite or redmi note 6 pro. Still not quite sure :/

I think devel is actually quite good. Well, with the exception that 2 or 3 devs are releasing all the available ROMs. That actually means that support for a single ROM is not that great, usually taking days until the dev replies, if at all. In my case, never. Something else that makes this phone very difficult to support, is the fact that individual ROMs are closely reliant on the firmware installed. Many ROMs require a specific firmware version. Most users are totally obvious to this. Look how many users have posted they cannot dial, or no sound, simply because they didn't update their firmware. To me, this is not a good road to go down and honestly makes MIUI a bad choice.
However, I love to fix and compile things, so my phone works great and this is probably the best and fastest phone I have ever owned, included all my previous Samsungs.. I plan on purchasing the top of the line Mi 9 in the next month or so and selling this one., but I do love it!

Uh, so just not installing latest firmware causes all these weird issue that people have :|
I hope devs deal with this weird situation and keep the development alive.
All I want from a phone is active community here on xda and also good battery life.
Guess I should double check my options in this price range so I don't regret it in future
BTW congrats on soon to come Mi 9. It's a beast

This phone is doesn't need a custom ROM to be awesome. Even stock rooted, this phone still rocks! Now that the kernel source is out there, hopefully things will get much better regarding custom ROMs.

Yeah it has Pie which is latest till now and I guess Android Q will come by Xiaomi. This phone specs are too good to not get
I read a few comments above that this device is not very popular and does not have sufficient support from the developers, I came from the Zenfone 3 zoom and it was a year of terror.

Question Does this phone has a future for custom ROM development?

I know it just launched. But I just wanted to hear the opinions. OnePlus Nord 2 is pretty powerful phone, but it's a MediaTek Dimensity 1200. Normally OnePlus devices has great development support but as MediaTek device, do you think it will also have ROMs in the future?
Maybe, but we will have to wait till then.
I highly doubt. Don't keep your hopes too high. Look at the Nord CE 5G for a very recent example, in spite of having a Qualcomm proccy.
Oneplus has supposedly lost its charm after becoming Oppo.
Only hope lies for the 9T, if they can somehow figure out a way to keep the temperature/throttling low with the inherently shi*ty 888 and increase the battery life.
At least 1st thing , it should easy unlocking bootloader. (and has unbrick tool.)
Then let's hope if devs interesting this phone.
It's a bit early to suggest, but the chances of getting a custom rom with official support for Nord 2 is slim. MediaTek is the villain here. Developers cannot obtain the source code [not for free] for MediaTek chipset. Though enthusiasts may port other builds to this device for fun and experiment. Further development and official support is unlikely to happen. Either way let's hope for the best.
use fastboot flashing unlock to unlock the bootloader and wait for somebody to patch the boot.img. then lets root and wait for oneplus (hope!!!) to release the sources (though MTK has not been publishing, hope it changes)
It will probably not. I don't have a single example of MTK smartphones with custom roms. Tell me the contrary if it happened, I'm not an expert. Too bad.

Exactly, this should really detract companies from using their proccys but they still go to them for really cheap stuff. And people (((enthusiats))) that buy phones with MTK are really to blame. If people boycott these pathetic closed-ended devices, these manufacturers would be bound to skip such shady manufacturers or pay them extra for their source-code to be released.
I believe the sole reason MTK is cheaper because they don't reveal their source and saves them the cost on extra licensing and stuff. If they did, it might even be more expensive than Qualcomm. Although, recent Qualcomm proccys have been nice little portable electricity using inefficient frying pans, we could still say the future is bright with their market practices being sorted and waiting for the next-next gen, when they switch back to the good'ol TSMC fabrication. Samsung fabrication is really pathetic, everybody knows but they still stick to making processors, makes me sick sometimes.

Well it depends.People have a misconception that mediatek doesn't support custom roms. But it's not entirely true.Take the case of redmi note 8 pro.It has more than 20 custom roms available and also good gcam support. In the initial stages it was struggling to get a custom rom,due to brick issues.Later developers figured out a way to unbrick the phone ,and now it's easy to unbrick if something goes wrong.
So what I'm saying is just wait for developers to pick this phone and if it becomes popular and if there's a way to unbrick for free ,then yeah surely custom rom developement will be there .

Nah! not going to happen. Sad but true fact. May be one or two lackluster half-baked ROMs here and there but it'll be foolhardy to expect quality stuff coming for this phone.

"the future is bright with their market practices"...
Are you serious? Qualcomm were condemned many time due to anticompetitive behavior!
Most competitors leaves the market due to patents abuse (LTE, CDMA), not tiny ones : Intel, NVIDIA, Texas Instruments, Broadcom, ST-Microelectronics.
And people like you applause!
Your name is LeDiable...a tiny evil...your master is Qualcomm...by far!
Ask Oneplus is they dont have the sources you're asking for. They have!
Even a deeper access (Mediatek Open Resource Architecture) than the have with Snapdragon : as Qualcomm's Hexagon sources are closes.

As soon as you build it.
I would wait on custom recovery, root access, other things first.
Last time I built LineageOS for a new device it was pretty straight forward, but without working TWRP and/or MSM tools I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to try flashing anything.
hopefully custom roms start flowing in the xda and telegram space

Question Custom Roms

Could anyone share a list of custom roms compatible with the Pixel 6? I see 2 in the development thread but I was wondering if there are others. I saw a Graphene but don't know if it's compatible.

The truth is, most of the custom ROM scene is much more active on telegram. There is a ROM update Channel which you will find when you search on telegram. There are couple more roms available there, but overall such a disappointed device when it comes to custom roms . My previous mi 9t pro had such good optimized ROM, that it was factually smoother than pixel 6. Tried side by side myself obviously. Sure more brute force power by the pixel SoC but the software tuning is bad. Much more framedrops on pixel 6 than my much older previous phone. Sorry for the little rant, but it has to be said when you are talking about custom roms...
Way more than a rom but i highly recommend checking out GrapheneOS!

Probably just different governors set so that the "faster" feeling one cranks the cpu to max sooner.
I flashed derpfest for oriole a few days ago and so far everything is running well. I even got face unlock with the rom.
