No kernel source after 4+ month.
Community development will die this way

I just found this one. I hope its true!!
https://twitter.com/MiIntrnModSeppe/status/955683630487146496

Appearently the sources have been just released : https://www.androidauthority.com/xiaomi-needs-to-adhere-to-the-rules-of-android-832599/

Development is dead. No real progress from the time we did not have sources to the time when we have sources. Sorry mates, I personally do not have knowledge to build roms or kernels myself, else I would ahve contributed. We have a semi functional build of LOS 14.1 and that is all we got.

Development pretty much dead i think. Developers shows no interest to develop for the device anymore, this pretty much caused by Xiaomi themselves.

Sadly it looks that way, maybe something will change, redmi note 5 was released last week and already have official twrp and first custom rom.
But mi A1 is still a great phone, it will get androdi P and I personally love stock Android.

I'd say pretty healthy, especially loving the italian dev community

Plenty of ROMs nowadays for our MiA1.

Any change since mid-April? I'm considering moving on from my Galaxy Note 3 onto this device, since it has all the latest features I'm looking for. (Dual cameras, fingerprint scanner, USB-C port)

Wonderful development community !

Can someone explain to me why this topic is important?
What are the benefits from a "strong community development"?
Thanks

The principal benefit is a long life of updates.

It's because the device (J2 Prime) is in a "new state"
Expect custom ROMs later this year

There's been no ROM development for J2, we got 1 custom recovery whose touch doesn't works properly. There're not evens mods available. So, the development is at its worst condition!
No real dev for this exynos device, not going to get another exynos again there is no real development here. never again.
MTK/Exynos chips = no kernel source
Please samsung galaxy j2oog root
No source so i got the expected features and they work nicely. Twrp and a reliable root.
Thanks by the way.

Actually I need Custom Rom for it
The only way you can expect this phone to pick up on the development side of things is to donate a device to a known dev. He/she might be able to help out if he's/she's got time and is willing to help out.
But that's highly unlikely. Maybe some dev will buy this device and develop for it? We can only hope

Coming from Oneplus 3T, Nexus 5,Oneplus One. Of course this phone is much less in term of community development strength.
Nonetheless, as a non-developer. I really don't have any right to request anything as all community development are voluntary.
MIUI is not the UI I like. Stock aosp is the best. But currently, there are no Oreo roms being developed as we can see is not in the case of older devices. So, Oreo roms are the only missing thing stopping me from unlocking my device. Want to be up to date along with stock google UI.
For Indonesian users, go find another phone...
I'm very disappointed with this phone, there is no way to unlock the bootloader even with testpoint.

same here, vanilla UI still the best for me. Bit I still rather go AOSP Nougat even MIUI Oreo update soon.

Both is illegal phone.
Distributor phone is illegal
Official phone is illegal too because its not bound to any carrier but xiaomi lock the bootloader with no option to unlock.

Mi 8SE Kernel sources released

https://github.com/MiCode/Xiaomi_Kernel_OpenSource/tree/sirius-o-oss
Pretty quick for a Xiaomi device
Great, I want to purchase a Mi 8 SE when it is available in my country and I will install LineageOS :3
Does this basically mean we are about to see a massive surge in development of custom roms and kernels for it ?

If we're lucky! It all depends on developers adopting development for the device as with every device. But price to hardware ratio I think (and hope) that it'll happen. When a good ROM comes out, this will probably be my next device!

If it's released globally, then expect a ton of Roms and kernels
example: Mi note 3 has the sources, but is China-only, so development is pretty much dead

I do expect it too as well. It's already available from several importers. However Xiaomi announced that the 'regular' Mi 8 is coming to Europe in August - no mention of the SE version though.

Already get the phone mi8 SE, 710 is pretty good, waiting for the twrp & lineageos....

What makes a custom rom development possible?

Tittle says it all. Why pocophone as soon as september 2018 already had custom roms avaiable here on XDA and other phones such as Mi 9, S10, V20 almost 3 months since launch doesn't have any?
What makes it possible to develop custom OS and ported OS?
I really wanted to purchase a Mi 9 but MIUI is absolutely unbearable. Will miss so much OOS for Poco F1
Edit: Is it a long way to learn how to port ROMs, GSI to the point i can develop my own OOS for my desired phone?
It's about how popular the device gets. Pocophone is indeed very popular due do having flagship SOC for a very low price compared to Flagship phones. Also, Xiaomi made Source Code available literally after the phone launched. Good price, source code, popularity, attracts the developers.
Also, why do you miss OOS? It's still alive and being updated. Beta version for example. You just need to join their VIP section for some cheap monthly price and you're gonna get updates regularly according to the OOS dev for Poco.

Sorry buddy i wasn't very clear. I am using OOS and if i move to another device such as Mi 9 i will miss it so much.
I really wish to know the best way to understand my android system so i could tweak it to my likings.
Buy a pixel/OnePlus and you will have countless roms to play

Android 11 Beta 1 Port for K20 Pro/Mi 9T Pro

A request to the devs to port the android 11 beta 1 build of Mi 10 for K20 Pro/Mi 9T Pro
We also wanna experience the latest android on our devices
No we don't, a port would take so much work to get headphone jack, pop up camera and everything else to work even slightly ok, it would not be anywhere close to being a daily driver but a rom to try for a hour. In good time Xiaomi will release miui 12 android 11 beta for our device just be patient.
I don't think Xiaomi's gonna provide Android 11 for K20 Pro. They've already discontinued it's production and investing more work in it won't bring them profit. Also they've got a lot of flagships. So, I don't think they'll care about this phone. They've already given one Android update, they'll settle for it.

Just wait for the release and some custom roms will pop up, just give it some time.

Yeah, predictable as things with sense matter. Ok, I won't but this thread was to check if any dev is interested as nowadays people aren't interested
You don't think the devs have already thought of this? It's a lot of effort and time. Are you willing to fund them?

They might not provide the beta but they certainly will a stable version once it's ready. Don't forget that the phone launched with Android 9, was a part of Android 10 beta testing and should receive one more Android update which would be 11. Xiaomi has always updated higher-end models with 2 Android versions just like every other OEM (except Google). It would be a shame if they left one of their most popular phones behind, wouldn't it?

Can be done from the Poco F2 Pro Android 11 Beta 1 easily, right?
porting isn't straight forward as you might think, not only that more than likely a new kernel would need to be compiled.
It probably won't be long till the k20 gets a proper beta release, imagine someone working on trying to port another devices firmware and doing a kernel for it and then a proper firmware gets released, it would be a waste of a devs time.
Most devs on here are concentrating on non miui roms, apart from xiaomi.eu firmwares no other miui roms are being kept upto date.

As far as I can tell they haven't released the beta for poco f2 pro yet, the other 2 phones don't have a pop up camera so porting would not be straight forward.
It's an early dev build which will be full of bugs, below are the features that android 11 will bring:
https://www.androidauthority.com/android-11-features-1085228/
A lot of these have already been done or very similar in custom aosp roms already available, if not more.
I wouldn't hold your breathe on this, it's probably not going to happen, and people will just wait for a proper k20 pro release

What a joke! By your logic, no phone should get 2 android updates because no company produce a particular phone model for 2 years. And, software updates profit them because it allows their royal customers happy and stick to their brand. Otherwise, they will just buy another brand with better software update. Lastly, there isn't many redmi flagships, k20 pro, k30 pro/zoom. That's it.
Even midrange Mi A2 lite got 2 android updates.
Xiaomi has pretty good record of giving updates and I am 100% sure that K20 pro will get android 11.

It's not my logic, it's Xiaomi's, so far as my observation.
Besides, the ones you're calling "Royal" customer, K20 pro is a budget flagship. The customers for this are anything but "Royal".
Mi A2 lite got the update probably because of its long lifespan.
Again, I don't have any problem if Xiaomi provides another Android update. I'm just skeptical they'll do so.
