Coming from Oneplus 3T, Nexus 5,Oneplus One. Of course this phone is much less in term of community development strength.
Nonetheless, as a non-developer. I really don't have any right to request anything as all community development are voluntary.

MIUI is not the UI I like. Stock aosp is the best. But currently, there are no Oreo roms being developed as we can see is not in the case of older devices. So, Oreo roms are the only missing thing stopping me from unlocking my device. Want to be up to date along with stock google UI.

For Indonesian users, go find another phone...
I'm very disappointed with this phone, there is no way to unlock the bootloader even with testpoint.

same here, vanilla UI still the best for me. Bit I still rather go AOSP Nougat even MIUI Oreo update soon.

Community development strength

No kernel source after 4+ month.
Community development will die this way
I just found this one. I hope its true!!

Appearently the sources have been just released : https://www.androidauthority.com/xiaomi-needs-to-adhere-to-the-rules-of-android-832599/
Development is dead. No real progress from the time we did not have sources to the time when we have sources. Sorry mates, I personally do not have knowledge to build roms or kernels myself, else I would ahve contributed. We have a semi functional build of LOS 14.1 and that is all we got.
Development pretty much dead i think. Developers shows no interest to develop for the device anymore, this pretty much caused by Xiaomi themselves.

Sadly it looks that way, maybe something will change, redmi note 5 was released last week and already have official twrp and first custom rom.
But mi A1 is still a great phone, it will get androdi P and I personally love stock Android.
I'd say pretty healthy, especially loving the italian dev community
Plenty of ROMs nowadays for our MiA1.
Any change since mid-April? I'm considering moving on from my Galaxy Note 3 onto this device, since it has all the latest features I'm looking for. (Dual cameras, fingerprint scanner, USB-C port)

I would love having official LineageOS ?
Wonderful development community !

Can someone explain to me why this topic is important?
What are the benefits from a "strong community development"?
Thanks

Hey guys need some recommendation should i buy this or wait for mi a2?
I think development for this a1 is going to get more advanced in near future what do you say?

HARD GAMER please I need your help.

I've been stucking here on Nougat and fails to move on to Oreo. I don't know I just think that Nougat is better in term of performance and stability for gaming. But now, you know, all the threads and developers giving all their loves for Oreo. So maybe this is my time to move.
So, please all hard gamers. In your experience. I need your setup badly for which Oreo rom should I flash. The most minimal and only essential customizations but very good performance n gaming, and please tell me which kernel you've been using for gaming. I really need it badly. Gaming is life. Please.
FYI I play Vainglory, FreeFire or ROS. Thank you so much.
Since there are no Oreo blobs for the Redmi Note 4 from Xiaomi (the Redmi Note 4 has yet to get the MIUI Oreo update and Xiaomi won't release sources for it until it does), kernels are pretty useless, IMO. Just stick with Nougat. It has sources so kernels for it are a whole lot more useful.

Ah, didn't know that. If you tell so I think Im gonna stick with Nougat. Do you know when estimated time Xiaomi to release sources for Oreo?

Probably never. Xiaomi never updates its old phones to new Android versions (only makes aesthetic changes to MIUI in updates), and this phone is a year old now. So it's old in Xiaomi's eyes. Xiaomi is a hardware company. Makes its money off hardware. So it has to keep pumping out new phones to ensure sales. If everyone holds onto old phones, like us Note 4 owners, Xiaomi doesn't get paid.
So don't expect an Oreo update or official sources from Xiaomi. You'll probably have to move onto the Note 5 Pro if you want Oreo and good gaming performance.

Questions About Xiaomi, And The Poco F1.

hello! my first ever post so please tell me if i do anything wrong.
So now that huawei no longer gives unlock codes many previous huawei fanes are scattered trying to find a new favorite OEM, and i think Xiaomi would be the best for me, but i need to understand a few things before i buy one:
1- Does unlocking/rooting void warranty? and is it like the Samsung case where they would have to be sued in order to get the warranty?
2- Is MIUI really that bad as people make it sound?
3- What are your thoughts on the poco f1?
4- What are the most special things about Xiaomi phones that makes you like it?
1. They are officially supporting bootloader unlock, but not sure about rooting and custom ROM, btw, you can always flash stock ROM with Xiaomi flash tool and fastboot images.
2. MIUI is one of the most feature rich ROM, the Chinese version is the best and is much stable. Global ROMS are developed by nincompoops and they always introduce more bugs than fixes. I have seen this trend that in MIUI with each new update, your phone will become more slow and buggy.
3. Poco F1 is a great phone, I really liked it but because of so much bugs and company not saying anything about it nor fixing it and also, those bugs are present in other Xiaomi phones which is still not fixed till now motivated me to sell it and buy Nokia 7 Plus which is more expensive and less feature rich. Due to this attitude of Xiaomi I am not gonna buy Xioami phones atleast when they are newly launched. Also, never believe on reviewers, especially Indian, they are all bastards.
-->Best things about Xiaomi:
1. Best thing for price.
2. One of the best development support.
3. Best display and camera for price.
-->Worst thing about Xiaomi:
1. Bad developers
2. Bad and buggy software, they tend to release a new version before fixing all bugs in previous one;
i.They stopped development on MIUI9 and stopped support on many devices leaving half of their device in a bad shape.
ii.Redmi 2 and Redmi 2 Prime that share the same specs only the latter has 2GB RAM, one has got VOLTE and other doesn't have it, while it can be easily turned on in the software because if you flash Prime's software in normal Redmi 2, VOLTE works, although it's not properly optimized for 1GB RAM phones.
I also used Honor 8 Pro as one of my personal device and I was too furious of no developer support but atleast they provide proper updates. I am using Nokia which also doesn't allows bootloader unlock. Btw, if you use VOLTE, custom ROMS won't support it or will take a long time for one with VOLTE to be available.

What makes a custom rom development possible?

Tittle says it all. Why pocophone as soon as september 2018 already had custom roms avaiable here on XDA and other phones such as Mi 9, S10, V20 almost 3 months since launch doesn't have any?
What makes it possible to develop custom OS and ported OS?
I really wanted to purchase a Mi 9 but MIUI is absolutely unbearable. Will miss so much OOS for Poco F1
Edit: Is it a long way to learn how to port ROMs, GSI to the point i can develop my own OOS for my desired phone?
It's about how popular the device gets. Pocophone is indeed very popular due do having flagship SOC for a very low price compared to Flagship phones. Also, Xiaomi made Source Code available literally after the phone launched. Good price, source code, popularity, attracts the developers.
Also, why do you miss OOS? It's still alive and being updated. Beta version for example. You just need to join their VIP section for some cheap monthly price and you're gonna get updates regularly according to the OOS dev for Poco.

Sorry buddy i wasn't very clear. I am using OOS and if i move to another device such as Mi 9 i will miss it so much.
I really wish to know the best way to understand my android system so i could tweak it to my likings.
Buy a pixel/OnePlus and you will have countless roms to play

Question Will there be a aosp custom rom for the realme gt 2 pro?

Just thinking about buying the gt2 pro but currently using the F3 with a huge development support. Will be there in the future, this phone had a custom aosp roms?
google experience is working
This is also a huge question for me. I'm stuck on a S21+ now which, being a Samsung, obviously has no development. I want a phone that will actually have some custom ROMs like the OnePlus 10 Pro probably will. However, the GT2 Pro is just a cheaper OP10P with a much prettier design so yeah.. I hope and pray the GT2 Pro gets custom ROM's and some dedicated devs.
You'd better forget that. It's Realme, not Oneplus. I'm interested in this phone too but this company is not doing right. And as Realme, OnePlus and Oppo are all the same, I fear the worst for the future.
You can't unlock bootloader, only chinese version
Any company, even RealMe can be persuaded by public opinion if there is enough.

Bootloader is unlockable for all versions now. I think it's just a matter of time until we get an AOSP rom.

I need to pay about 700 bucks for that device now, from 619€ and 639€ with watch and tablet. Strange but now I will wait for next gen
9 months later and still no custom roms?

Now that the device is about 350€ we might get some love... Also bootloader can be opened...
ColorOS is not bad at all but lacks A LOT of optimization and bug fixes...
