Unlocked bootloader for note 8 (T-mobile) - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

Ok so if you don't know already I'm the guy with the crappiest battery on planet earth! So because of that I took some advice went to Samsung service center, they checked my phone and of course with my luck, my battery passed the test, even tho I see the drainage happen before my eyes... anyways my last question to the Samsung rep was "can I unlock my bootloader? And she said "yes, just bring in your receipt" my eyes lit up and I said NOT unlock SIM (mind you I have the T-Mobile varient) she said yes you can unlock your bootloader but your whole phone will be erased, I was like "ummm
..Ok perfect"! (By the way it was late So I couldn't get it done right there and then because they were closing..) So my question to y'all or the devs what do I need to do after I get this bootloader Unlocked? Would I have to extract something...is it hard to do?
Thanks in advance! I just wanna help[emoji4]

What you need is some milk.... You can not lock the bootloader and the person who told you that was dumb as a box of rocks. Please use the search button before creating another thread

The t-mobile version bootloader is locked that's why there isn't root, no? I was only trying to help, this is why I wanted to get it on film.....because I knew this would n, but she had my phone in her hand and she said very confidentially "yes you can unlock the locked bootloader from Samsung mobile varient.

Bro those people who work for Samsung know little to none... You can not get your locked Snapdragon bootloader Note 8 unlocked by anyone at Best Buy, Samsung, etc. That's the purpose of locked bootloaders, is to prevent people from tampering with items. I know you where trying to help, however if you use the search option. You will see there's many threads covering this topic going back for years.

So IF I do tho can I help? And if so how can I confirm in their faces that it's unlocked or Not?

it might actually be possible in the same veins as how the bootloader was unlocked for the HTC M8 and the sony experia Z tablet (off which i have experience).
if i recall each device has a specific token which was ran through Sony/HTC (Samsung) to generate an unlock key, the device is then placed into fastboot and the oem unlock command is used along with the generated unlock key, if all goes well, the phone is wiped (and in the sony and HTC case, some DRM partition is erased so make sure you back up before going any further)
Sony and HTC gives you an easy portal to show you how to obtain your device token so they can generate the unlocking key (every unlock key is unique for each device), Samsung does not. Now this does not mean that Samsung can unlock the bootloader, just means that it's not impossible

Nothing is impossible. Every lock has a key.

Yep, stick it in all their faces! You da man! Just walk into the Samsung office and demand the key! Don't take no for an answer. Even when they call the cops <or the guys with the straight jacket> to escort you from the grounds, still insist. It's for the greater good. You can do it! You can do it!
On a side note. What city do you live in? Wanna make sure I watch the news in your town for any Samsung related hijinks... This Is gonna be epic.

I did the htc unlock with either the eVo 3d or the 4g LTE, I forget. But I wanted to write Samsung about setting this up. It lets them know we agree to voiding our warranty and take responsibility for the phone. Every phone manufacture should just have done this from the beginning and everyone wins.

No, I ment bootloader Unlocked for rooting, but I actually thought the same thing, I wish I could have done it right on the spot, but I guess we'll see if Idk why but I'm so sure she's right, she said it with such confidence, I mean because what else could have she ment? The only other lock is SIM unlock but they dont do SIM unlock, and that is why im 100% sure[emoji4].

[Q] Returning relocked rezound?

So i really want to unlock but im worried about it still saying re-locked at the top if i ever have to send it back for any reason just in case. Maybe im just paranoid but i have already had 1 replacement and i don't want to have trouble if i need another. Anyways, my question is has anyone successfully returned a rezound BY MAIL. i dont care about if it worked in a store, i have to send it back by mail. Has anyone done it? If so, post your results
PS. I am not new to rooting, i had a Dinc and loved all the roms for it but you could always get it back S-on if you needed a replacement and there's no way to do that with this one.

You still have HTC's Warranty, as for Verizon.. A store Visit they won't really bother going as deep as checking the bootloader... A mail in to Verizon they would notice once they try to Debug it before selling it off as Refurbished and sending you another
But DO they check and debug that deeply. Going to a store is really just not an option for me and I don't want to be stuck with a defective phone if I can't get it replaced and its a hardware problem.
EDIT: Also, what does HTC's warentee cover vs. Verizon's?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
HTC claims they will cover all HW issues NOT related to unlocked bootloaders. Verizon is kinda up in the air. I can say plenty of people have said that they have sent multiple phones back to Verizon while still rooted and s-offed, so not just the rezound and have never been charged.

In all reality it comes down to the individual person at Verizon who checks the phone... Somebody might load up the Bootloader and See "Unlocked" and all hell breaks loose... Or some dude might just ignore it and flash a Factory Locked Bootloader and move on..
As for Warranty IDK.... Check the manuals that came with the phone
So, here's the better question, has anyone here actually been slapped with a fine for returning an unlocked bootloader?

I dk yet, this phone is friggin weird. The way it works makes my head hurt. the aboot.img file is constantly changing and writing new information, but messing with certain parts of it makes the phone not boot.
I don't know who invisible is, but he is a beast so far. He just really doesn't seem to have any help from any real devs that actually have the phone yet. I see things changing very fast once more people get the phone in their hands the next few days.

So with the Bootloader Unlock thread being "Locked"... ???

Who of you who are SOLthinks it may be time to jump ship? I personally don't know what to think at this juncture. No offense AT ALL to the developers who brought this device along before it was updated, but I know that many of us (Whether by choice or otherwise) ended up with this updated, Fort Knox phone, and who are now seeing the Bootloader Unlock thread being closed, AND are now feeling well...a bit disconcerted(?) I am feeling...well...I don't know what to do ...I am kinda at the point now that I really want out. Where are you guys at if your're in our position? I am kinda wanting out at this point. But I would hate to ditch a device that I was originally SO HAPPY to own! :crying: This REALLY SUCKS! :crying:

I don't think these kind of threads are going to do any good. In fact these threads and posts are the reason why devs abandon projects/phones.
One thing is giving feedback, another is filling forums with useless stupidity.
Maybe we should make a thread collecting a bounty for a new unlock method.

Tried that already. I don't know what the one dude is complaining about, to me the DNA is still a sweet phone. I hope some DEVs are working their skill and trying to unlock the new FW, but if not I'll live and not be a jerk to other people here. Since I've joined XDA I have had nothing but positive experinces with help rooting and modding a few phones. If they end up leaving the DNA no worries and if they work on the new FW that would be super great too and appreciated by many.
I feel bad for you guys that are still locked, but I wouldn't be concerned about it not happening... IMO the devs working on it are extremely talented and the chances of it staying locked are very slim. If there's a will, there's a way. Also, I don't know if this still applies to our phones, but for what it's worth most of the recent Moto phones, including my bionic, had locked bootloaders and they were still rooted and ROM'd. My bionic had root, a TWRP-based recovery, 3 custom roms, and it was overclocked... All with a locked bootloader. The only thing I couldn't do was use a custom kernel. Have faith, it will happen.
I should also add, if you are just too impatient to live without a rooted phone, that's understandable, I'm sure you guys are just itching to mod it. But if you really like the phone, just be patient. It will come in time.
Wow, lots of Internet tough guys in here.

I know with the Razr, the op lost track as once djrbliss posted the root exploit people were just sending in donations without saying how much. It was at close to a grand when the root was released and then all hell broke loose.
They're at $450 for an unlock for the Atrix HD (pigs will fly first when dealing with Motorola).
The samsung galaxy s3 on vzw got to $3,800 before they unlocked that.
I understand people develop android without being compensated, but hell if a large group of people just start waving money around.... It motivates people. I'd love to see a bounty started. I'm just not too sure how many people would be into it.
We don't even have an R&D thread anymore, the outdated unlock thread was turning into that before it got locked.
All I know is with complacency, our beloved DNAs will fall into obscurity pretty fast.

Dude,
The OTA has been out for how long? Do you realize that when the DNA first came out it took a long time to get to where we were pre-OTA.
If you don't wanna wait then sell the damn phone. As far as your whole "we, the people own the airwaves" comment....
LOOOOOOOOL!

I'm still waiting for you or someone else to tell me what I said that wasn't accurate? You do realize the FCC does license the waves lengths to the phone companies. They pay a large sum of money for this privilege. And like I said already, the FCC being an entity of the federal government, we the tax payers own the commission. So by proxy, we license the bands to companies like verizon or sprint.
Or maybe you can put me on track?

Development is dying

Beans has said that mobile developement is dying due to companys trying much harder to block us out. Why do it android was built on this platform. I personally own an android for the reason to make it what I want ( with help from everybody here) so why are they locking us out? I understand the company does what verizon says but why not leave holes for us? It used to be that way now its like the company wants us out as much as the carrier!
Anybody have opinions on this I just dont understand

I dont mean development on this phone but mobile development in general

Money talks. The more vzw can keep us out the more additional products they can sell us.
Vzw is a big company with good negotiators. Samsung wants to keeps offering their products to vzw consumers... and they realize it's vzws call.
Back room dirty politics. Its everywhere.

Yeah they're making their money now and got lots of popularity so no screw u. That's Sammy. Moto and HTC are going the other way leaving holes but once they come out of slide they'll change too.

My opinion is for you to take your sap and negative opinion else where.
This is a community of support and Improvement.
Yes with every update, new work arounds needs to be made.
And one would be very ignorant to think this is like the First time this happened with a brand new device.
It hasn't even been out a month and you're saying it is safe to say development is Dead?
There will be a work around released eventually.
It may come out by this weekend, it may come out by winter holidays or it maybe it will be worked out by spring.
For all we know, we could just end up in the same boat as the s4.
However, i strongly advise you to
Be patient and show your support to devs working day and night
or go follow another forum.
Thank you.
Hey guy I said not this phone!!!!!!!
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
I think that a lot of this has to do with security of the Android system. Remember that we get root and bypasses by dev's finding holes in security. That means that those same security holes can be used by rogue hackers to steal data. It's a big deal for all of us and especially for businesses. If Verizon and the phone makers wants to sell Android on the enterprise level, they have to prove that it's secure for enterprise use. For most users, this isn't a big deal. They just use stock. But for us...
I think the real issue here is that carriers are exploiting those of us who want an open device by charging full price and by releasing it much later than their locked devices. THAT'S the BS IMO
Ps griping about the company and carrier not the community I love this community and have been here since my droid eris

Ummmm....top poster. Just unnecessary. OP is not putting down devs. He's restating what the devs are feeling..are you following devs on Twitter? Some of the very best out there are refusing to touch a Samsung phone and many are just tired. Development isn't dead. It just evolves.

You need remember that it isn't htc or Samsung or any of the others for the most part. But rather verizon and at&t. Any of the other carriers can unlock their bootloaders on practically every android device

Galaxy S5 to M8 because of no root

I have been an avid Samsung fan and have had the S1,S2 and S3. In between I had the HTC inspire 4G, so I know what it's like to have experienced htc. Never did get the S4 due to being on a 2 year contract with the S3. And now it's time for me to finally upgrade, I naturally went with the S5,which I found out after the fact that its boot loader is locked. This, like with many ppl here,is a deal breaker for me. I waited and waited for root or an exploit to be found, and still nothing. So I finally decided to take the plunge and try out the m8 since root and boot loader unlock is possible. And wow this thing is nice.. highly impressed. Definitely the premium feel that a lot of ppl talk about. The only thing that is better on the S5 is the screen. The M8 colors look a little washed out in comparison. But not a deal breaker for me. I will be rooting this phone real soon. Glad I made the switch

One of the exact reasons I ditch my S4 after 4 months,...I HATED the fact that Samsung and Verizon locked that sucker down so tight! I left my M7 for the S4 and regretted it so much, I left Verizon after those 4 months (and a 300 ETF), to go back to HTC with the M8 and ATT lol
Actually I was able to root, but that was it
The locked bootloader on the S5 is one of the main reasons I decided against it, in favor of the M8. That, and the exterior design on the M8 is simply much higher end, and I also love the front facing speakers. And TouchWiz while not as horrible as past iterations, is still pretty awful.
If the colors on the M8's diplay don't look as vivid, it may be that you are used the AMOLED on your old S3, which many considered to have over-saturated colors. Its a matter of personal preference whether the over-saturation looks better (many hated it). The S5 isn't quite so artificially over-saturated, and IMO not all that different in color reproduction from the M8. Contrast is always going to be better on a AMOLED than on a LED, as the contrast ratio is effectively infinite. But the M8 still has one of the best smartphone displays around.
In any case, glad you are enjoying your new M8. Welcome to the fold!

I rooted and unlocked as soon as I got my M8 also.. (I came from S3)
The only thing I have done with it since getting it is changing the boot up / down screens and removing CarrierIQ. Otherwise it's bone stock.
I don't run the Sense launcher, but really only because I got used to Nova after using it for so long on that horrible Touchwiz.. Sense is so good, I really don't see a need to do a custom rom.
On my Infuse & S3 I was die hard CyanogenMod user. Haven't even bothered with it on this phone.
Just got a HTC One M8, selling my Galaxy S5

I did the same with the m7 and s4 last year. I realized that I enjoyed the speakers more than the higher mp camera. I ditched my nexus 5 because I can enjoy stock android whenever I get that itch with the gpe rom or conversion ruu. The phone is just so versatile.

Two days ago I bought the note3 after being a satisfied note2 user.
Little did I know that the latest kit kat update hard locked the boot loader and removed all possibility of root.
Haven't had an HTC since my inspire 4g. Loved that phone... Now I love my m8 after returning that God awful note3.
Worth every penny of the $35 restock fee.
Long live the king, HTC. Thank you for giving me a phone that is wonderful out of the box and giving me the ability to make it more wonderful within minutes if owning the phone.
Boo Samsung. Go get your NSA and government contracts cuz you've lost the Dev community and Joe consumer is soon to follow.
-》Sent from my mind to your screen.
After giving it a few days to test the hardware and make sure that there are no defects, I finally unlocked, rooted, and ROMed my M8. So nice to be free again to mod how I see fit with a phone I paid full price off contract for. This whole locking thing is about as asinine as if Dell or HP decided to lock their PCs to the point where you couldn't install anything other than Windows (let's hope it doesn't ever get to that point). I just read that an infamous developer who hacked the PS3 and iphones announced that he rooted the locked S5's but is not choosing to release the root method. So much for open source and modding. Anyways, I'm enjoying my M8 even more now. :good::good:

Yea I saw. They probably will still have a locked bootloader. I had the S5 for a month and I'm enjoying the M8 more. The S5 is nice but it might as well been called the 4S prime. And touchwiz is in desperate need of an overhaul like sense 3.0 vs sense 6.0. The new sense is very streamlined and modern.

Same here. Had the s1,s2, s3, note 2, and s4. And because of the lock bootlader/lack of root, now i've got the M8. There are a few things to get used to, but I absolutely love it. I'll probably grab a 1+ also if I ever get an invite.
