LGM-V300K - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Hi does anyone have the V300k that can verify to me if it has band 17. I'm searching around on Google but it's showing conflicting results. I just don't want to buy a Korean version and have it not work with at&t.

This posting
He's got V300, but I'm not sure V300K or V300S, ask him

I have a V300K...now if someone could tell me how to check what bands it has...I can let you know lol.

I have LGM-V300S model. So the list in the link (B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B7, B8, B12, B17, B20, B26, B38, B39, B40, B41, B46) is for LGM-V300S.
According to the this site, V300K does not have B17... But better to ask someone.

IF YOU want AT&T bands, why not buy AT&T version, or U.S. Cellular version if you want AT&T bands? Or wait until October 27 for the official U.S. carrier unlocked version (which will also have bootloader unlock)?
U.S. Cellular has both the LG V30 and LG V30+.

I guess I don't understand why you want to order from South Korea for AT&T bands, when AT&T or even U.S. CELLULAR version is available here in U.S. right now.

The reason why I want to buy the Korean version this time is updates. They get everything first over there. I bought a unlocked lg g5 and lg v20 they get no updates at all. My v20 is still on December patch with nothing insight.

Order from South Korea is US$128.00 cheaper !

LTE bands according to country?

Hello everybody,
I'm about to buy an unlocked V30 (I live in Argentina and the seller brings them from Chile) and the seller said LTE bands are not the same as in my country, so that I won't be able to use 4G. I have no problems in living with a 3G connection since there are no unlimited internet plans in my country. My question is: Is it harmful for the phone not working in all of the bands? Will I face any problem in the future?
Thanks!!!

He doesn't know what he's talking about -- IF the phone is FOR Chile and being used in Argentina. Here's the list of 4G LTE bands used in Argentina and Chile below. Show me any difference?
Which carrier in Chile is he buying from? OR is he BRINGING them from Chile, but the phone is for European market or something?
What carrier in Argentina do you use?

Ask them for the model number of the unit they are selling, just in case they are importing them from somewhere other than normal sources. With the information Chazz posted, you should be able to identify which bands you need for the carrier you are going to use it on. If you are unsure, then post with carrier you are planing on using it on and one of us will specifically tell you which bands are needed and which model would be suit your needs on the available information. Some models so access more than what they are mentioned to support and others have very inaccurate information, like the H933 for the Canadian market.
Edit: This is usually the list I use to reference carrier and band info which I just noticed Chazz had posted under the image.

Yeah, that's my go-to list also and it's been pretty accurate for South American countries. I've visited Brazil six times in the past 10 years, so I'm familiar with the carriers and bands in that part of the world...
I just edited my post to put that link above the screenshot, instead of below. I meant to do that in the first place. I did include the link, as you noticed -- but I didn't mean to bury it at the bottom of the post. That screenshot is just Paint copy and paste from that Wikipedia page, of Argentina and Chile carriers and the LTE bands they use.

The only way that story makes sense is if they are importing one of the South Korean LG V30 models and re-selling them in Argentina and Chile. In which case almost all the LTE bands are not even the same for Argentina!
For instance:
LG V30 V300K
Carrier: KT – South Korea
GSM: 850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900
UMTS (HSPA: 2100 (B1), UMTS1900 (B2), UMTS850 (B5), UMTS900 (B8)
LTE: 2100 (B1), LTE1800 (B3), LTE2600 (B7), LTE900 (B8)
TD-LTE: 2600 (B38), 2300 (B40)

See, with that one, you would have only LTE band 7 for Argentina or Chile carriers. And if you are using WOM, which only has LTE band 4, then you would be out of luck. Unless that model has more bands than listed in official specs, which is possible.

Mexico and some other places around the world have a massive black market for stolen cell phones where carriers don't blacklist IMEI's. Whether that might be the case or not, the model number should hopefully help a lot. I also know way too many people who think just because a carrier says it should work, doesn't make it 100% compatible and vice versa.

Yeah. And after I posted I realized he would still have LTE band 7 -- but would only be out of luck if he used the carrier that only has LTE band 7. So, I edited my post slightly.
I am curious which LG V30 model is being sold. Because as far as I can tell, the phone has not yet launched in South America -- so any LG V30 models are being imported from another country by re-sellers. On the Chile LG website, the LG G6 is still the top phone and the V30 is not mentioned at all.

I believe that phones sold in Chile are ready for Chilean networks... I hope the seller is wrong.
I'm buying it from a small business that sells computers and phones. I suppose it is legal, because it has a shop in downtown and pays all taxes. The thing is that LG never brings the latest phones officially into my country (Argentina). I'm telling you that the latest and newest LG phone sold here by official LG stores is the G5 SE.
I can't even find a mention of the V30 on any of the carriers for Chile or Argentina. I checked Claro, Entel, and Movistar and the closest thing I could find was the G6. With carriers in Chile and Argentina all using one of the following: 4, 7, and or 28. The H933 from Canada and H932SV from T-Mobile, as well as possibly other variants would be fine in your region. I mentioned those two specifically because I know all of those bands mentioned are supported by those models. In most cases, the Canadian version comes unlocked.

I'm still waiting for the phone to arrive. As soon as the seller tells me which model he's bringing, I'll post.
I also thought that it was strange that the 4G wouldn't be compatible.
Now I'm using an LG G5 H860 from Korea and it always worked like a charm.
We'll see this week.

I am hoping the seller you are dealing with is just going on what is posted and not what actually has been verified through the engineering menu. T-Mobile's model does more bands than officially mentioned by T-Mobile. I am guessing the Canadian model does as well, although no one has verified that and I don't have one to verify it personally.

I am not 100% sure as I do not own a V30 as of yet. In some Nexus devices, you can actually set a region, which have also been known to cause issues. I remember the Nexus 5 forum being full of people who selected USA when overseas and ended up losing their service. Changing the choice did not make a difference after that first selection. If I happen to pick up a V30 before yours arrives, I will definitely check and see. Otherwise, hopefully someone else will chime in and know.

What model V30+ do you have? "V30+" is not the answer. I have a US998 V30+ with band 4. Almost every V30+ has LTE band 4...
What model V30+ do you have? H930G? LS998? US998? H932? H930D? H930DS? I actually know you do NOT have any of those LG V30+ models or you would have LTE band 4.
You have one of the Korean carrier variants? Ding ding ding.
You didn't research before you bought. Every LG V30+ models except for the Korean carrier variants has LTE band 4.
The good news is you can convert your Korean carrier variant V30+ to a V30+ with LTE band 4.

Band Selection

I have V30+ (H932 /T-mobile version) I already get T-mobile Permanent Unlocked on my device.
Just realized that the bands availability for this device is not as many as Samsung Note 8 (T-Mobile version).
eg. no LTE band 8. The spec stated it has
GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
WCDMA B1/B2/B4/ B5;
LTE B2/B4/B5/B12/B46/B66/B71 (USA-Tmobile)
Roaming LTE B1/B3/B7/B20/B38/B39/B40/B41
I will use this phone in the country that need LTE band 8.
by reading this thread;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/help/increasing-data-speeds-t-mobile-t3703325
It seems , I have found a way to get into engineering mode to get into band selection option and turned on the band I need.
but I have a doubt if this phone will be working especially LTE band 8 in my destination country where I have to Travel. (there is no LTE band 8 on LG V30+ t-mobile)
Can some one confirm and test to by switching SIM card, (must be temporary /permanent unlock), let say turn on band 17 from ATT since default T-mobile version is not available,
The area where I live T mobile and ATT use LTE band 4 so it is hard for me test myself with ATT SIM card if band 17 is working after I turned on that band.
Thank you

LTE band 17 is a subset of LTE band 12. All new AT&T phones now only list band 12, because it includes 17.

No. Because LTE band 12 is listed -- therefore no need to list LTE band 17.

IF you go to the AT&T website to BUY an LG V30 H931 from them, here are the bands they show you are on the their own phone. Slightly different order from the LG.com website -- but still NO band 17. No need to show LTE band 17, since LTE band 12 is there!

The V300 I received from HK didn't have the B20 LTE band on the spec sheet.
But when i enabled it in the engineering menu, it worked perfectly with European networks.
There are some apps that give you the ability to record the bands number you encounter and log them.

Read my reply again. 17 is subset of 12. Even new AT&T phones no longer show "17", since they will now show 12. If you have 12, then you have 17. New AT&T phones will no longer show separate 17.
Even the AT&T LG V30 doesn't show 17. Why? Because 17 is already IN 12. (Like sugar is in cookies.)
But I'm repeating myself over and over. Just go read that post again.

There is no reason not to believe your point, as I already said "good to know"
I don't need to argue about it .
In technical point ATT band 17 is already covered by band 12 (T-mobile) which 700Mhz ( a )
for some people they just read band 17 is band 17 not band 12. and obviously they are thinking it is different with limitation of technical knowledge.
I just pointed out the frequencycheck.com
https://www.frequencycheck.com/carriers/at-t-united-states
I guessed ATT can't just stated they are using band 12 which they don't have (extended range LTE 700Mhz a)

AT&T now calls it band 12 on their phones moving forward.
Older phones will still show "17".
That site you keep giving link to is not an AT&T website and you have no idea when it was even last updated. I'm not even going to bother going to that site because I know I'm right. I really don't care what they say. They haven't kept up with current development.
It's why the AT&T LG V30 H931 on the AT&T website doesn't have LTE band 17 listed, but has LTE band 12 in the specs instead.
There are apps like LTE Discovery that will show you what bands you are on, and even keep a log as you travel around.

On my US998, here's the bands I am getting as I travelled to work yesterday morning. I was getting LTE bands 2 and 12. As expected it's now LTE band 12, not "17" -- because AT&T doesn't call it Band 17 anymore (except older phones will still show that). All new AT&T phones or new phones compatible with AT&T (like the US9998) will show LTE band 12.
https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/47blo3/eli5_band_12_vs_band_17/
Band 12 consists of the frequencies 698-716 and 728-746. This band is the only band that covers the 700a block that T-Mobile uses, and also happens to cover the b-block and lower-c-block that AT&T uses.
AT&T is upgrading its network so that it can handle Band 12 phones, since Band 17 is a subset of Band 12. This means that people will be able to use T-Mobile phones on the AT&T network.
Additionally, AT&T's phones will begin coming with Band 12, which means they can be used on the T-Mobile network.

Rooted LG V30 - adding bands?

So now that all variants besides the T-Mobile V30 have root I am hoping maybe that opened up more options to get more USA bands working on my India H930DS.
I read a few threads about adding bands on older phones with root access particularly this one for the Galaxy s5:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/forum....o-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059/amp/
It details the whole process of adding extra 3g and LTE bands on a rooted s5 with custom rom/kernel. He also states it should work on any Qualcomm based devices.
My question is will something like this work on newer devices such as my H930DS V30+?
Also i am not sure but i am assuming the "ids" he mentions in the steps 17-23 are going to be different?
Can any experts here confirm weather the process in the thread i linked would be relevant for my purposes or any other methods that can take advantage of root to add/enable more bands?
Ah come on. Someone at least give me some hope that i can keep this phone.
Back in 2015 we tried that Qualcomm method with Moto Quarks (Moto Maxx, Moto Turbo) and it didn't work. I don't know about LG phones.
I think no only one is answering because they really don't know.
All I know is when you flash Sprint LS998 to US998, it takes on those bands and loses a couple of Sprint bands. Sprint guy @JWnSC reflashed Sprint modem and got them back. So it IS possible to add/remove LTE bands from the V30. Whether it's possible in the way you need, I don't know. You're crossing hemispheres.
Alright thanks for the answer. I just don't want to go through the whole process of bl unlock and root just to find out I can't even get the tools to connect to the phone and read/write the bands or something stupid like that.

I can add, when I flashed the VS996 modem back after BL unlock/root, the hidden menu did not show the additional bands that, according to GSMArena, should have been present (46 & 66). Instead, it showed the native US998 bands and my connection was screwed up.
It may have been something I did or didn't do... I don't know.

Maybe some description of how to flash the modem correctly is what we need. I just flashed the modem partition using patched LGUP with the VS996 kdz.

Here's what I don't understand. If you flashed the H930 over your H930DS phone, these are the bands you should have...
If you have"H930" (either actual or converted), you will have these bands:
2G GSM: 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G (HSPA): 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G LTE: 1/2/3/4/5/8/12/17/20/28/38

CDMA: 800 MHz CDMA
2G GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G UMTS (HSPA):850/900/1900/2100 MHz
4G LTE Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/12(17)/13/20/25/66

So what bands are you missing that you need to add? I know Sprint users want LTE band 26 and 41, which can be added back by flashing the Sprint modem. I know T-mobile users would love LTE band 71 (probably not going to happen). Verizon users want Wi-Fi calling back and that's been solved.
But you SHOULD already be getting LTE on AT&T or T-mobile on the existing bands.

That is the problem I'm encountering. I flashed the H930 kdz on my H930DS and I am still not getting the H930's bands, only the H930DS'. I'm not sure if I did something wrong here. I also tried to use partition dl mode in LGUP to flash only modem, xbl and xbl2 from the H930 kdz but still no change. Any help?
I don't know, maybe 66? I think 66 is extension of band 4 right? Something I read somewhere. All I know is nothing I tried would let me get anything better than a 2g/edge connection at home and a 3g connection in town. It was constantly only being able to get 2g that bothered me. If I could have gotten a consistent 3g/hspa connection I would have been more than happy with it. Anyways I just gave up and sold it.
Which bands are you missing?
The bands listed for the H930 earlier is not correct either. It supports a few more than that.
---------- Post added at 08:56 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:52 PM ----------
According to GSMArena, India uses these bands: LTE 850 (5), LTE 1800 (3), LTE 2100 (1), LTE 2300 (40), LTE 2500 (41). All of them except 41 is supported by the H930DS. It sounds more like your APN settings were wonky.
All I know is with the same SIM card I am getting LTE+ connection on my new essential PH1 in the same spot I was only able to get 2g connection with the h930ds.
So has anyone figured out a way to add LTE bands to their US998?
I am stuck with AT&T H931 firmware mainly because I don't want to lose band 30. The more I dig into the AT&T firmware, the more I dislike what the big brother did.

Because your H930DS is not made for North American carriers. It's missing most North American carrier LTE bands. So, all you could receive is 2G bands.
Has nothing to do with SIM card, has everything to do with you not researching what you bought. .
You should have bought Open Market US998 V30+.

How did you do that?
Can you provide proof like with LTE Discovery screenshot?
If true, you're going to be a hero and cause a lot of excitement...
Even with root and "enabling" via T-Mobile network hidden menu, no one in the past few months could get LTE band 71 to actually be used on US998. We gave up.

OnePlus 6 meets that requirement. Then next month the Pixel 3 will be out with B71 already confirmed and will be unlockable.
Maybe the Moto Z3 Play, E5 Play/Plus (only the versions sold by TMobile) can be bootloader unlocked but not sure.

Yeah, but he wants a premium phone.
Like with IP68 (or ANY IP rating), Qi wireless charging, QHD 1440P resolution.
OnePlus is a pretender, not a real premium phone.

I don't use T-mobile, I use AT&T so the T-mobile Band 71 wouldn't show with my SIM card. AT&T doesn't use Band 71 and I have no roaming on the AT&T Prepaid plan I use.
I do know we cannot flash T-mobile modem as I was hoping, due to the different RSA encryption LG/T-mobile mandated for the H932 (different from all the other North American variants, for some reason).
But yes, others say they have gotten Band 71 on rooted US998, with T-mobile SIM card using various tricks like the Shortcut Master Lite, etc. I have no way of confirming what they say.

Just got my 10 Pro delivered yesterday and for the most part it is absolutely fantastic. However for those in the UK like me considering (wait for the global) I say this as on the Chinese version Band 20 is disabled and you won't be able to get 4G.
Having bought many Chinese devices Vivo, Oppo this was the first one for me not to support band 20. I never looked into it as from previous all was fine.
Currently there is no way from what I have read to get band 20 working , So consider this before you purchase.
That aside I'm delighted with it ......:good:
