LG V30 doesn't have 1,6 aperture??? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

The study of these examples caused us one question to LG. This question did not arise when studying the photos themselves, but when viewing their EXIF. The fact is that in them the light intensity is indicated not as f / 1.6, but as f / 1.69. Well, that is almost the same f / 1,7 that in many smart phones of last year, starting with the Galaxy S7 and ending with the Gionee M2017. There are three explanations for this: either the pre-release LG V30, which GSMArena was shooting, does not have the same optics as the commercial samples, or EXIF specifies incorrect data (this also happens), or LG is telling the truth about the record diaphragm.

I thought this was already settled by a LG spokesman, they deliberately set it wrong with test units, it's actually f / 1.6

Uhhhh.. Thx a lot

it's long been settled, with people posting tons of pictures with production models.
For instance, see this photo from this thread by @keithleger. That's a picture of his wife, taken last weekend.
If you have Win10, even Win7, click on the "i" in the upper right hand corner to see the underlying information.

I can verify that it is 1.6 in my photo software on my laptop.

Just get one. F1.6 but the quality not good in lowlight like my old S7E, LG need use better sensor and do more in software.

Hello,
I still think about getting Z2, despite of huge hardware issues like overheating. I have few questions to be asked:
1. I found in camcorder (video mode) there is no possible to use "touch to focus" feature. You cannot select what point is to be focused. Right?
2. How much do I need to undervolt CPU and GPU to avoid overheating during 4K filming or just in very hot sunny day?
3. If I install custom ROM, will camera remain as usable as in stock ROM? Example in Samsung often custom ROMs couldn't have the same camera as stock ROM because stock ROM camera used system parts not accessible for custom ROMs - ie. Samsung's deep level files.
So in custom ROMs camera was crap.
4. Is there still plenty of defect batches of phones? We all know Sony manufactured plenty of crap phones and rare of them is without malfunction - bad bezels, jinky camera ect.
^^
Wow! If I believed in massive hardware issues and build quality so poor it's rare to find one without malfunction, I'd put my money elsewhere.
Well I'm on my third Z2... But, as far as custom rims go it's just like Sammy. Stock based roms are near perfect and AOSP based roms will have their share of problems. Honestly though, a stock Sony rom that is rooted is excellent. The slow motion camera capability is my favorite. Far better 120fps capability than the iphone5s and Find7.

There are some week productions which are "better" than others but it is hard to check in shop what week was phone manufactured. Generally newer batches are better than earlier.

So in AOSP ROM I will not be able to use stock camera app because its files are not open source like in Samsung?

Super happy
Maybe I'm just lucky but my Z2 is perfect. I've switched to CyanogenMod, as the camera now works there as well (came from a S3 running CM11

And my Z2 is just perfect.
Buy!
I agree. I have no problems with my device either. Remember, Sony sold millions of these units. All manufacturing has some degree of lemons. I have to believe in this case it is under 5%. I say buy as well.

as for my unit, I'd say its perfect, has none of issues, recorded around 8 mins of 4k with steady shot on 30 C, mixed direct sunlight and shadow,
i think it only has a slight gap on a top, but a paper can barely fit in

"Huge hardware issues". The only issues I have is this forum with this constant harping on about "batches". This mobile is manufactured on an ongoing production line. There are NO BATCHES. It is not produced like bread where one hour the baker bakes one sort of bread then stops to bake a different sort, this is batches.
The Z2 is in constant manufacture, that tab on the phone is the week and year it was made, it signifies nothing except the date of manufacture.
Sony are well respected for their quality control and this mobile is no different. In every days production a lemon or two will be produced as in ALL THINGS WE BUY.
THE problem with the Z2 is the nonsense written here about batches and "Huge hardware issues" that are only in the uneducated minds of a tiny minority who write utter rubbish on this forum. The Z2 is as good as any other flag ship mobile presently available. If you don't believe this go look at the threads on any other flag ship phone on this very forum.
"Huge hardware issues" indeed. Some of you would believe in Santa clause if some idiot wrote about him here.

Well atleast 1 straight thinking guy, but dont even try, i did, and all you get in return is getting attacked and insulted lol. 1 man started this batch nonsense and now it wont stop no matter what, and it seems like for example slightly off centered camera(where does it even say it has to be centered???) is considered as serious defect by some, or even hardware issue. This is hilarious and pathetic at the same time.

Are you sure? Who said there cannot be defected phones with off-centered cameras as example?
Of course they are in constant production - but that doesn't exclude possibility to get phone with some defects.
They can manufacture 1000 phones till Quality Control finds example off-centered camera. They correct problem and next phones are fine, but those 1000 go to shops as they still work properly, but have visual issues. People who don't know about such issues like this will not return phone and generate costs for Sony, so they can count on people's poor knownledge.
Don't believe in Quality Control, only a fool believes in this. They check one phone per few dozen thousands and that's all.

The days of using micrometres to gauge acceptable tolerances have long gone. Such measurements are now made by laser beam. SOME will escape all human efforts to exclude a lemon reaching the shops but that is why a two year guarantee is given!
No were have I written a lemon will not be found but the % these days with modern QA is tiny in comparison to days gone bye. Of course some poor soul will buy a mobile that has issues. Point is it has NOTHING to do with non existent batches and all to do with being given a guarantee by Sony.
If you are going to base what you buy on what you read on the WWW I suggest you don't buy any mobile at all and use public phones if they are working and not vandalised.

1. from what i've seen there is no touch to focus with video in xperia. Whether that is good or bad is debatable. if subjects around you are in the same focal range then you can pan around and things are in focus, this implies subject is stationary. If it isn't then it will be out of focus and here the z2 focuses fast enough provided it can get a bearing on the subject. That is to say subject fills up more of the screen than not. In some cases it can be a pain but in others it can be more practical. This is highly dependendent on the video you are making.
2. try not to get too carried away with 4k. This is a new feature and current hardware struggles to keep up. samsung limits recording to 5 minutes, g3 reduces bitrate to 30Mbits (s5 records in 48Mbiits and Z2 at 55 Mbits) and still imposes a 5 minute limit. Z2 does not impose any limit. What is more important is whether Z2 can do 1080p without issues and i've not heard any one complain about this.
As for general heating wait for the next firmware to drop and see whether people confirm it makes a difference or not.
3. custom roms means camera functions are limited. This applies with any model except nexus whose camera is public source.
4. faults are reduced with later batches is the most that can be said here. If its a pretty phone then earlier batches will have more issues. if you are in a position to exchange the phone when you notice defect then there is no problem ,but if you are importing from another country this will be difficult.
I have the same dilemma as you but for entirely different reasons. I'm deciding between the k zoom & z2
A mid range with all mid range entails, bulkier phone coupled with a camera with optical zoom vs a flagship that in most respects is well rounded and contender for flagship of the year whose only rival will be the z3.

EXACTLY! Same situation here. Many people saying Batch 14w17 has many issues. Mine is PERFECT. I had the bad call quality issue at the other end, but mine seems to be fixed now..
I had the Z2 and I'm glad I got rid of it so fast. It was my first Sony phone and may be my last one. I didn't like how it felt in hand and yes, the phone has some serious over heating issues. When I had received the phone, I put my Sim card in and installed my apps like I do with every other phone. The phone got so hot by just installing the apps that it threw me off. I'm back to an M8 and I'm very Happy. But to each his own. Some may not experience what I have and love their Z2 but I'm definitely not one of them.

I say don't risk your money like I've just did on my new Xperia Z1c which turned out to be a disappointment. I read about the flash bleed issues before buying but I just thought it was exaggerated and that some people were just trolling. But when I experienced it myself it turned out to be a major issue. At least now I feel kindda glad I didn't get the Z2 which I also had in mind...I guess if I had bought it I would've had the overheating issues with normal photo shooting.
Anyway I guess it's also depends on the country you're in. I now believe Sony and maybe even other manufacturers ship defective products to third world countries like mine. So if you're living in say germany or the UK then I guess there would be no problems buying the phone.

Hmmm you mean there is no T2F in system camera or it is disabled by driver and no other video apps can use it? I often use T2F because continuous autofocus is bad - can be lost while manual focus stays steady.

There is no T2F in video with sony. Yes focus will be lost when you pan around but it gets it back quick. There is also some focus hunting which was not there in earlier models in low light. See Shem's videos on YT and you will notice it. Possibly a firmware fix to address this last one.

Haha, i wish i had your clarity of thought. Am referring to k zoom not s4 zoom. k zoom is the successor to the more bulky s4 zoom. The ads can be a bit off putting as they only feature smiling women using this device. It's take two and a definite improvement in terms of form factor over its predecessor. The annoying thing is i know samsung will nail it next year with v3. That means a possible replacement whereas with z2 i don't think i'd bother as soon. Whatever software improvements z3 brings with will end up with z2 thanks to community efforts.
10x Optical zoom and aperture control opens up many possibilities for framing. you will not use zoom all the time but its handy to have when you want it. And once you get used to it, you cannot go back. Put it this way, no flagship without optical zoom will ever compete with it other than the successor to k zoom. They cannot be compared with on this aspect alone. Without zoom z2 is comparable in image quality but there are more camera features on k zoom. Plus and the most important is this is an android device.
But you compromise in other areas that might be unacceptable to those used to flagship performance.

[Q] K Zoom Follow Up Model

I sent my K Zoom back to Samsung as it required a repair. As well as a very poor, slow service, they have now decided that it is unrepairable & are going to give me a full refund.
Samsung are out of stock & I can't find another K Zoom anywhere for the same price I paid so I'm thinking of trying to hang on & wait for the next generation of this phone - will be hard!
I thought I'd seen some comment somewhere on the web recently which alluded to the new version but now can't find anything searching on Google, has anybody on here heard any rumours, any thoughts of how long it will be etc??
Cheers.
there will not be any successor, this is the last of its kind
K Zoom flopped from Samsung's point of view. they stopped producing and shops sold it for 222€ multiple times until everything was gone. now ebay prices for new devices keep skyrocketing.
we are a too small niche group to beeing worth chasing for them. 99% of people just want faster-bigger-thinner phones and give a f* about the camera, as they only use it for selfies or the ocassional food instagram. on hollidays they carry their dslr's
Yeah, managed to find one for a good price in Argos as I couldn't wait any longer!
Interesting that sales were poor as there is a Zen Phone model with limited optical zoom this year!

May not have one right now but who's to say it won't happen later. i think samsung with the k zoom created the most fun camera to use on android.
if there is a delay it means the tech isn't there right now to make a compelling upgrade. in the way the k was over the s4 say.
This in no way means there won't be one later. I don't know if its feasible to make a fixed aperture with zoom. Stays at 2.8 over the range of 10x optical. That would be a significant upgrade but the physics might make it impossible to retain the same form factor.
This thing goes for a third of the asking price of lumix cm1 which hardly any reviewers got to play with. the cm1 is competing with the rx100 that costs a fraction.

i don't know about that, what makes flagships sell when phones half that price can achieve most things if not as well. when i see people ***** about their photos and camera quality it makes me think otherwise.
having said that the k was not an obvious choice for me to go with at all, had it not been for a friend on this board that somehow made it click. as you say people are very drawn to design, looks etc which when accompanied with a marketing blitz can really obscure function which isn't that obvious.

Did LG V30 have crappy camera?

Hi to all,
We all love V30. We all wait LG V30 and real photo/video comparison. V30 is the phone with all good things. And the main thing what are we waiting for is camera.
So I search to see witch camera did V30 have and it is Sony IMX351, with 1,6 aperture, with 1pixel size. This means that small pixel is not so good for low lightcand for the details. V30 will catch photos without noise because 1.6 aperture but not so much light in the dark because 1 pixel size. And this camera sensor Huawei P10 use it for front camera. This make me a big disappointed. Why they use a average camera? The competition (Samsung, Google, Appel) use camera with big pixels.
Last night I watch google pixel 2 and how DXOMark write the best phone camera on the market.
Samsung and Appel have very good camera.
Where here is V30? In the middle? Or near like them?
So what you think? Is this camera sensor very bad or not? Is Possible to V30 with software make very good camera?
P. S. And OIS is veey bad on V30, every video is shake so much. Is possible with updates to make OIS+EIS for better stabilization?

His channel is very popular, I don't think he would lie about the devices he compares. After the presentation of the pixel xl, testers could take the phones for a test ride outside. Also same way lg gave test units to some youtubers, that's how he can have both. So you can believe the credibility of this video although unfortunately front-facing camera is a disappointment an there's not much lg can do about that

I'll know soon enough. I ended up pre-ordering one from my carrier a few minutes ago. Says it'll ship anywhere between today and Monday. (Not that I trust that estimate but fingers crossed that it is true.) If it ships today and I have it in hand by the weekend, I have a standard set of tests I can run on it. Otherwise, hopefully it is still here so I can use it at a concert on Wednesday. I'm keeping my V20 so I'll be able to side by side with that.

We will see! I also frequent a dark jazz club a lot here in KC. So I have plenty of opportunities to test audio and video in the absolute worst conditions. I can tell you that the V20 mics using just the HD Audio app that it came up with picks up things pretty clearly. Unfortunately, it also picks up the other people in the club talking too. That's not a knock against the phone though. I'll be interested in seeing how the directional mics compare while recording video. Although, I still need to figure out those sliders.

Thx a lot my friend I hope you will enjoy I will your new phone. The V30 is the phone what all we want it is just All In One phone, but just we need really camera comparison. And I hope that they will release full good update for camera.
P. S. Yes, someone will tell if you want good camera buy DSLR, that's true but if I want to buy flagship phone I want with good camera.

Looking forward very much to these tests! Thank you so much! I heard a rumour that the V30 mikes cannot be directed like the v20 could but it could be nonsense there are two mikes instead of the three in the v20

Ha! I'm a bit of a photographer already. I shoot with a full frame DSLR and a smaller mirror less in addition to my cellphones. To tell you the truth, I only drag my DSLR out for road trips and special shooting conditions. At this point I do most of my shooting with smaller sensors like my mirror less or cellphone. DSLR sensors are too clinically clean for my tastes. I just reset my Flickr account settings so people can see which shots are done with which camera:

I will say that when I shoot, most of the shots are going to end up in B&W. That's just my shooting preference.

The information about the V30 is a bit confusing. I've looked my V20 over and over for the three mics it's listed as having and only ever saw two holes for mics, one on top and one on the bottom. In the JerryRig tear down of the V30, he does point out something interesting though. He points out the same two mics but then mentions that the phone's earpiece becomes a mic in very loud conditions. I'm guessing the V20 did the same then and explains why the sound when testing video recording sounds different than if I am just doing audio recording without video.
As for whether the mics are directional or not while recording video, I swear I saw one video where someone was demonstrating it on the V30. Only problem is that I've watched just about every V30 video on YouTube from a lot of the larger tech contributors that I will have a hell of a time trying to go back and look for it. I suspect it will be there.

In LG official web site, now they put info about camera. It is good it see that Slow Motion have 240fps at 720p. But too bad it is not 1080p...
LG V30 camera is phenomenal, Saw a comparison between the Galaxy Note 8, the LG V30 did a lot better, specially the rear cameras., LG V30 should have been released faster and for the DXOmark scores, the V30 should score higher than Galaxy Note 8.

Guys as a long time htc user, I have been on xda for a long time just for htc mega thread. After doing a little research, I noticed that there's no such thread for lg, there are separate threads for lg devices but no mega thread where all but mostly latest devices are discussed. Can someone start a thread like that?
Also if you can read or don't mind translating Korean language, here's an amazingly detailed review of lg v30

Thank you! You mentioned that the audio recording quality changes between using the camera while on video vs recording only audio with the dedicated audio recording app on the LG, which one gets you the better audio and utilises the earpiece as a mic please? Are you able to record high pitches like a flute or sax on the high register and drum sets?

V30 slow motion bitrate: 10mbps very small

Hi to all
Is possible to increase bitrate of 240 fps slow motion which is 10mbps? It will be much better video quality if it possible to put on 25mbps like GoPro Hero 6.
I don't see the option to do so. Of course, I also don't see the same amount of space dedicated to imaging in a cellphone that I see in a GoPro or any camera for that matter.

A) What are they using?
B) Is it actually enough of a difference that most people can tell?
C) Is it enough to produce image quality that you would ditch using a GoPro for this same work?
D) What penalty is incurred for using this higher bitrate?

Is it possible to change the bitrate on any phone, especially without root? I'm not aware that it's possible to do this. Can you change resolution while recording in 240fps? I haven't tried on V30 but Don't XZ premium is stuck at 720p when recording at 960fps.

Correct, this is a video phone. The concentration is on the 1080 and 4K content creation from a cellphone. (Emphasis on that last part. If you're really worried about video quality, chances are you're using a bigger dedicated camera.) Slow motion is more of a gimmicky side trick and not really the main focus of cellphones. Even the much talked about Sony XZ seems to be so so in the slow motion department.
In the end with all imaging pursuits you have to keep in mind that this is a cellphone. The phrase "jack of all trades, a master of none" applies. If you're worried about slow motion quality they make dedicated cameras for that and they cost a very pretty penny. Even my DSLRs and mirrorless cameras don't really do slow-motion and their entire size and processing systems are dedicated entirely to imaging!

Thx for you answer, but I don't know why are you angry on me? I know you have V30, i don't have yet. But im planing to buy soon as possible. I like V30 so much but I would like to know much more about camera and will LG fix somethings in future updates.?
Why I put all this questions? Because the competition who have the same hardware have something much better then this phone. I want to know what im buying. I will put some examples:
1. LG V30 and OnePlus 5 have EIS. If you compare this two phones V30 video is like they didn't have EIS. This Is just software implementation. OP5 is not video phone, V30 is video phone. What is problem with V30?
2. The same comparison between LG V30 and OP5, when you focus on something and took the photo with OP5 you will never get "White sky" Instead of the blue sky like LG V30. This is not because camera sensor it is because camera software. The Google camera fix this problem on V30...
3. About slow motion, this is comparison between LG V30 vs Samsung S8, go on 6:10 -
You can see how much mire is better S8. And they are much more video examples on Youtube.
Is LG able to make an even better camera in new updates? YES! Do they want it, we do not know that...
Yes you can change the bitrate. Try Open Camera from the playstore. you should be able to change bitrate with that app. It would just depend on the phone whether it can handle it or not.
I dont see a reason why not trying to increase Video Bitrate. There where camera rom's out in the past that significantly increased the recording bit-rate
of some phones. For example my very old HTC Sensation had a camera mod that pushed up FullHD recording from ?16 to something about 40! Mbps, that was absolutly georgeous! If the hardware supports it in any way why the heck dont try it and let the people decide themselves instead of nip the idea in the bud by arguing "buy a real ...blah ", "its not intended blah.."

You have a point. This is where dev work is very helpful in pushing the limits of what our phones can do. These manufacturers spend a few months creating the hardware and software, then move on to the next phone coming out. Rarely do they go back and IMPROVE features (unless it's bug fixes). Whereas many people keep their phones for 2 or 3 years. Devs have time to examine, tweak, improve in ways the manufacturer design team never would. To the OEM, once it's shipped, it's shipped.
This is why even LG G4 devs are porting features from our LG V30, that LG would never give the G4. But in the same vein, XDA devs can give the V30 features LG wouldn't give the V30 because they ran out of time before it shipped.
There's always areas of improvement. This is a great phone with great features, I think one of the two best out there right now (along with the Note 8) -- but the best for me. I own three now, and while I'm a fan I'm not going to say everything is perfect.
If someone can improve the bit rate of slow mo, go for it.
If someone can create a great bokeh effect portrait mode with LG camera, go for it.

Not sure if you're aware , but by now Bokeh effect already works great with the V30. Both on the selfie camera and on the rear main camera.
Also, HDR+ works on all 3 lens and it is amazing.
Last, the quality of the selfie is pretty good now! Even in low light.
(Just get the cstark27 google cam apps - two APK - one for wide and one for the rest).
This makes ****load of difference, making it probably the best camera phone out there.
Just make sure "HDR+ Enhanced" is chosen.

I've got to disagree with your assessment of the screen. I love the V30 screen, but it's still a clear second to the Note 8. I knew that going in, and it didn't stop me from purchasing my V30. I look at how bright and crystal clear it is when I have it mounted up in the car for navigation and keep thinking oooh, two weeks on. Playing videos are fine, but if I'm watching from an off angle (and this happens, in the morning if I'm showing my boys something over breakfast), or I might notice that skin tone is ever so slightly off while watching in a dark room, but whatever -- it's a great screen for my uses, certainly better than the Droid Turbo I'm coming from, I'm ok but props to Samsung for nailing theirs.
Also the rear camera -- you gave it some knocks, which may be deserved, but it takes photos as well as I need them to be taken, meaning solid results. But the wide angle lens -- let me tell you, I'm a picky camera shopper, and one reason I've been a fan of Panasonic's LX series cameras over the past 10 years is because of the great wide angle lens on those units. So many buyers seem to ask, "what's the max zoom?" but the real question is "how wide can I go?" This camera's wide lens will get the shot that others optically cannot.
The UI, eh, but I threw Nova and Google Now and Pixel Dialer on there, so it doesn't bother me. I love that LG long press feature. I love the Knock Code and the Knock Off feature. I miss my (non-stock Android) Moto actions for "twist for camera" and "chop for flashlight," but I'm getting along without.
Anyhow, your review I found a good summary. It's not just the information, but it's the enthusiasm a reviewer offers that gives the clearer indication if a product is worth somebody's time. That's why when I read these so-so reviews from ARS, Business Insider, Engadget, etc. and I shake my head. It's like these guys aren't about looking for a good phone that works well, they're stuck making all these comparisons, "is the screen BETTER THAN Samsung," "is the camera BETTER THAN iPhone," "is the UX BETTER THAN Pixel." Obviously the features need to measure up to some bar -- obviously the selfie cam on the V30 is a major disappointment but thankfully that's like no. zero on my "things I care about" list.
How about, are all these aspects ENJOYABLE and how well do they function as a PACKAGE -- you know, usability. For me the Note 8 was a contender but it is just a little too big, the V30 is a pleasure to hold. The Note cam has some cool features I'd like the V30 to have but the V30 has some cool features the Note doesn't.
Anyhow, great review, don't knock the Corolla too hard, one may have saved my life, but I know what you mean 'cause I didn't buy another.

Yes, and it nails that LG has its mojo back. They would be back more if they would treat the G series like Samsung treats the Galaxy S series (like a real top tier phone), but they made a great phone with the LG V30.
The LG V30 is contender for phone of the year -- another reviewer said that, and I agree. I'm not saying it's THE phone of the year, but I think it's in the top two. I wish LG had put in a better selfie camera, mostly so I wouldn't keep hearing people complain about it. I personally don't care. (And some in the forum have pointed out the default software settings on that selfie camera make it worse than it really is.)
I'm coming from the international version of the Droid Turbo, the Moto XT1225 (basically the smaller version of the Moto Nexus 6, but with bigger battery), but a long time LG fan and have owned several LG phones. But the last LG phone I cared about owning (size, specs) for daily driver was the LG G4. And I sold that to buy a third Moto XT1225.
The LG V30 makes me feel like when I heard the Moto XT1225 announced. I WANT this phone. I also want to root it, so waiting for the dev friendly LG V30 to be released in the U.S.

Thanks for responding. I have read some reports of some people having bad screens and I suppose it's completely plausible. My unit had a great screen. Also I think the rear camera, but the average just wants to point and shoot and have the phone spit out a good pic. They don't want to tinker with shutter speed, iso, metering methods, etc. The v30 capable is capable, but the software in my opinion don't maximze the camera hardware. Front camera is plain trash. The wide camera is awesome.
Also I appreciate those kind words. I will Never be one of those "tell them what they want to hear" reviewers. I have been lucky enough to land some pretty big deals from my tech reviews in the shorrt time I have been doing them, but no matter how high I go, my review style will always stay the same. Some hate it some love it.
Thanks for taking the time out to respond. I appreciate that **** man!

I drive a Toyota Yaris. I think for me, the V30 might not be the best phone out there, but it's like my Yaris. It just suits me. I'm not keeping up with Joneses, I like my stuff to appeal to only myself.
I get why some people want the best car, the best phone, the best house, etc.
Me? I just want to be happy. If that means going against the flow, I'm cool with it.
I'm a girl obsessed with tech, I'm already looked at like I've got a third eye. Haha!

Best is relevant to the person. That's more what I meant. They'll follow trends even if it's junk. Like the iPhone X for example.

I'm sorry, but this was a HORRIBLE review.
1. The screen is not that great. It has terrible off axis viewing. Tilt a white screen slightly and it will turn blue just a few degrees off axis. It also washes out in bright light.
2. You didn't say when you can and cannot use the Sabre DAC in the system. What is good about it and what is horrible. You also fail to mention that the MQA playback ability really does not work and all 44.1khz CD quality PCM is upconverted to 48khz with awful artifacts. You also should mention that the only way to play DSD on this device is to use the very basic stock LG Music Player
3. The camera HARDWARE on the rear facing camera is actually the best. It is the camera software that is not great. The jpg processing is horrible but raw photos are excellent. You really need to use manual mode to take advantage of the cameras. Also, you keep talking about the camera on the other phones being better. It is actually just the software. Install the Pixel 2 camera software on this phone and it is terrific.
4. Most of the complaints that you have are due to bundled software choices which are all changeable, not on the hardware which is not.
5. The promised wireless quick charging is UNUSABLE as there is no quick charger available the correctly outputs the necessary 15 watts to take advantage of it.
If you are going to review a phone, really learn the hardware features of the phone and really push them!!!!!
If we were all concerned with what others think, then we'd all be cursing our iPhone X's. I buy what appeals to me and am not loyal to any particular brand of phone. That is a bit different when it comes to cell companies though. Definitely can't complain about T-Mobile and I've got the magenta gear to represent.
The video gets a thumbs down from me for one reason. Keep your personal political opinions to yourself! I don't care if you agree with me or not. My opinions are mine and unless I ask you for yours, I couldn't care less! Political crap aside, the opinions expressed in the video seemed a bit... over the top. It's kind of ironic that 3 out of the 4 features he mentions that were the only features he liked about the V20 aren't in the V30/V30+. Like the V20, the screen V30/V30+ could also be better. Personally, I think he was a bit too hard on the V20 but that is just my opinion. He really didn't support his opinions very well, like with the V20 screen and device in general as a comparison. He might just like this phone a lot and there is nothing wrong with that. It doesn't seem to translate well into a review I would personally consider useful to helping me decide on whether or not a phone is for me.

Exactly.... That's exactly what I meant. I picked the best phone, leaving out the "for me"
To help the OP out with any reviews he does in the future. I would like to offer a good point of reference to further illustrate how I think reviews should be more focused.

Although an unboxing, this videos fairly direct and to the point. He also supports his statements and opinions with reasons for them. "Shout out to AT&T for stealing the headphones!" That piece of humor fits with the theme of the video because it is related to what the subject of the video is all about. I can personally say I have had that happen to me more than once, friends, and others that have received a device at some point or another that were missing an accessory that was supposed to be in the box.
Every day, people are bombarded with political crap and some of us are just tired of it. Whether people are pro-Trump or anti-Trump isn't the point. If I wanted political views, there are plenty of videos on YouTube that represent even the most ridiculous views on all sides out there to watch. When I am looking for a video on a cell phone, I am only interested in seeing and hearing about the phone in a constructive way. This extends well beyond political views as well, at least for me and also falls along the lines of sneaky ad placement.
In most cases, people just want to see and hear about the subject, which is the V30 in your video, and why you like it or dislike it with reasons to support those conclusions. One of the reasons why I watch just about every review of something I want is to see if there is something someone else will notice about what I am interested in that I might not. Especially when that might affect my decision on whether or not I still want that particular thing.
...or you could just let the man do his reviews the way he wants to do his reviews, and you don't watch them.
You've spent a lot of words trying to get him conform to your ideal.
I enjoyed the review and ignored any political stuff.
I'm also not sure why he NEEDS to say certain audio files can only play through the stock LG audio player to take advantage of the quad DAC, when other premium phones don't have quad DAC at all.
It's like saying "it's a Porsche, but you're forced to buy premium gas." It sounds like a criticism which is irrelevant. Don't like using LG stock player? Will Samsung NOTE 8 have quad DAC with 3rd party players or ANY PLAYER? No? So, it doesn't matter then. LG supplies a quad DAC and the means to play the files. Maybe he LIKES the LG stock player. If you don't, make your own review.
Only if another popular premium phone has a feature the LG V30 does not have, is it relevant. Which is why most reviewers are forced to mention portrait view camera vs wide view cameras.

It's not that I want him to conform to my views. We need more reviewers out there reviewing phones. Suggesting he leave out things that may alienate potential subscribers as well as providing a more in-depth explanation as to why something "sucks" would at the very least help those watching understand his point of view. It was just constructive feedback because I would like to see more people review phones outside of what YouTube currently has to offer.

I definitely agree about the Portrait View I keep hearing so much about but couldn't care less about. Same with people pointing out how the selfie camera produces poor results. Those are two things I don't care about. However, for a less than ideal camera on the front, the Face Unlock for the V30 works exceptionally well. You don't need the best camera out there to give you the best results for Face Unlock.
