Honor 9, No OS, adb via fastboot not working. - Honor 9 Questions & Answers

***SOLVED***
Used DC Phoenix to flash stock rom using update.app provided from their website, as far as I know, this is the only way to restore the phone if nothing else works.

Hey guys, posting here as a last resort.
I have no OS and cannot use adb via fastboot, it does not recognize any device detected.
When running "adb devices" when in recovery it picks up the phone just fine.
Info:
STF-L09
Bootloader and FRP unlocked
TWRP 3.1.1-1
No Rom
Cannot use Huawei exRecovery (Package info fails)
adb fastboot does not get recognized.
Have all drivers needed on pc for adb to work.
HiSuite doesn't support recovery on this device.
Really desperate for help, so any info is appreciated!
Cheers.

How would I go about testing it, what problems could occur? Considering I dont have any rom on the device I dont see the issue.
Cheers

I have the same issue and could use some assistance here too.
but i have bootloader unlocked and frp locked .
Happend to erase everything on internal (vendor, cust, data, system etc) and have the same issue as the thread creator

Throw it on mega or something and I'll give it a go

Yes, i have unlock code

so, just put everything in the downloadfolder from your G-drive onto my SD-card (in a zip or just the files) and choose restore from TWRP, correct?
After that is done i will unlock my bootloader again like i did the first time and then make a facory reset via? inside the phone or via TWRP or?

Rommco05 said:
1. Yes thats right. Folder on sdcard must have same name like on Drive
2. Yes unlock bootloader like first time. (hupefuly will be possible)
3. I'm not sure which recocery will be installed but I think in twrp

Unfortunatly I got an error here... Error opening: " ( no such file or directory)

I cant seem to write on the system...
Unable to wipe system
Failed to mount /data (invalid argument)
Failed to wipe dalvik
Failed to mount cache, cust, data, system, vendor, product, version, (all invalid argument)

Restarted and did normal wipe and then it started to restore, went about halfway and the quickly said it was done.
Restarted and It went into download recovery (eRecovery)

No warningmessage or nothing, phone boots directly into eRocovery and eRecovery does not work to restore anything, gets fail message only

damn, device does not show up in adb. keep trying

I saw that in a thread but i am unsure on how to do that. so i want to try this option first

Strange that adb doesnt list my phone. Is it because im in fastboot&rescue mode?
I can only access fastboot&rescue and eRecovery. Adb doesnt want to list my device. As soon as its listed i could unlock bootloader.
Any tips?

doesnt work to install drivers again, they should work fine i think. Phone gets connected to recovery in Hisuite if i am in fastboot mode.
Dont know how to get device to show, seems like a small thing that is in my way.
Please help, anything

Is it worth tying even though the user above has experienced problems?

I think you and me are in the same bubble buddy, fastboot works, but adb will not list any devices whatsoever unless in recovery.
I have tried everything from using the HiSuite drivers to google USB, reinstalled all adb packages and it still will not work.
If I got adb working this whole problem would be so much easier.
EDIT: Tried flashing the STF-l09C432 firmware via twrp, it fails to install zip package with error 9. I can not find any info on an error 9 anywhere.

Well guys, I think I messed this one up, Sprint HTC One Max that I unlocked the bootloader on and then proceeded to S-Off with Rumrunner and failed due to not already having su permissions.(note his instructions say "OR Bootloader unlocked" so I figured I was fine having done that) The device rebooted fine initially after exiting the tool and then after attempting to manually flash TWRP for this device so I could get root access and try again, the phone rebooted to recovery and now fastboot AC is as far as I can get. Downloading the Sprint Decrypted RUU from OMJ now because I'm retarded and cant figure out how to get around using commands in Free Arc to unzip the signed RUU...any help is appreciated. :silly: Tried manually updating the drivers for the "unknown device" on usb hub port 8 in my device manager with offical and generic HTC drivers and tried reinstalling HTC Sync to no avail. am I bricked?
Everyone MUST use the files for the HTC One "MAX" corresponding to their model (Sprint, Verizon or International). *OMJ has posted in our thread.

I have it, both the decrypted one OMJ posted on page 2 and the signed one. But free arc wont let me open it. What the hell am I doing wrong? How do I unzip the signed one and use it without the error. I know it has to be something simple I'm missing. Yes I used the twrpsprint.img from Squabbi's Toolkit, thats what failed the phone into recovery. (Red Traingle). Now the phone can get into the bootloader and it will boot into android but no usb debugging when I enable it.

Found OMJ post now. He posted the decrypted in the same thread as the encrypted. Got it.
Can you boot to bootloader with vol down and power? Does it show you as s-off?
Flashify in the play store will flash the twrp .img from flyhalf twrp thread in original dev or you can use his instructions and use fastboot.

I don't think you need to ruu if you can boot to android and bootloader. It can be fixed using other methods.

I can get to the bootloader no problems just that the phone wont talk to the computer. I can hear it connect/disconnect from usb but always device unrecognized so I cant send the phone any commands. I can boot into android no issues though. So youre suggesting flash twrp img using an app like flashify or goo manager like a openrecoveryscrript from android then install a custom ROM after to fix the fastboot usb recognition? I am S-On, unlocked currently.
I am hoping to help but was/am distracted. I think you can fix what is going on with flashing the twrp from flyhalf thread. I am not on sprint so haven't gone through it on that side.
Also as noted in the ruu thread you cannot flash the older ruu posted if you are on a newer update. Check the version.
do you have the htc drivers installed on your computer?
Maybe try to follow this to get back on track. It was written specifically with Sprint in mind.

yup.. going through troubleshooting this connection right now... nothing returned on adb devices, list of devices is blank. somethings up. no serial number, nothing... tried both in the OS and in fastboot.
troubleshooting connectivity issues:
-try a reboot of the PC
-try different usb cables and ports
-dont use a usb hub
-dont use usb 3.0
-make sure nothing capable of comunicating with the phone is enabled and running. htc sync, pdanet, easy tether, and even itunes have all been known to cause issues.
-windows 8 has been known to have issues. try a windows 7 or older machine
failing the above,
-i use these drivers for fastboot and adb(donwload and run as admin): http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe (mirror)
failing that, try manually updating the drivers in the following manner:
-put the phone in fastboot mode(select fastboot from the hboot menu)
-open device manager on the PC
-plug in phone, watch for it to pop up in device manager.
-update drivers with device manager, pointing the wizard to the extracted
driver download folder from above
note that you can check the connectivity of the phone, and make sure drivers are working by in the following manner:
-open cmd window. change to directory containing adb/fastboot utilities
-adb with the phone in the booted OS,usb debug enabled, enter:
adb devices in a cmd window
-fastboot with phone in fastboot,enter:
fastboot devices in cmd window
in either case,a properly connected phone with working drivers installed should report back the phones serial number.
at any rate I know adb works because it can see my old m7wls just fine.

Never achieved SU to begin with so I cant flash it. the app FCs without Su permission. I'll try updating adb.
Question: If I never managed to achieve anything beyond Unlocking the bootloader, wouldn't a Factory Reset from the boot loader menu fix any partition discrepancies anyway and allow the PC to recognize the device again? I guess thats what I cant understand. What would go so wrong if I never flashed anything, not intended for Sprint HTC One Max's that would suddenly cause the PC not to recognize the Fastboot USB?
UPDATE1/25:
Updated everything in adb for 4.3 and 4.4 and 4.2.2 and the toolkits. Still nothing. I think I have determined the root cause may be a bad copy of TWRP that results in a QHSUSB_DLOAD issue like from the Evo 3D days. Unfortunately however, since the One Max is a relatively new device, there has been no "ultimate recovery tools" established to fix this type of error. So now, lol... wait for it. Now I have an "Unlocked", unrooted, S-ON, Stock HTC One Max(sprint) and stock recovery whos partitions I can only imagine are ok yet the computer refuses to recognize on fastboot.
That said, does anybody know, since I can apparently boot Android, and the phone itself works just fine, if there are any market apps which would support flashing from inside the phone, like Flash Image GUI to try and root this thing internally or am I just hosed/hard bricked stuck on stock?

Ok, Update 2! Managed to get into the Stock recovery console and wipe the cache partitions, but it seems even that did not fix the issue.(The phone had never been rooted or had a custom recovery flashed and got stuck on S-On, Unlocked, no recognition from Fastboot USB on the PC) So since I can apparently get here, can I flash a CWM or TWRP image from here(stock recovery->apply update from SD card or internal storage)? or is that only for flashing a whole ROM?
Thanks!!

Ok, UPDATE 3, back at work trying a different computer... Turns out it wasnt as bad as I thought at all. Its a driver issue on my personal computer.(work computer recognizes the Max on Fastboot Usb, still didnt list it on devices yet but I'm not worried about that right now.) Oh well... so since I know this is an isolated incident, any recommendations for driver cleaner, like Drive Cleaner CC? Or what would be the best method short of wiping my laptop to a fresh copy of Win 7, that I could use to make sure I am removing all failing instances of HTC Drivers from my machine. Like I said it picks up and installs my HTC One (m7) fine, but the One Max, nadda. So I need to correct the driver issue on my end ultimately to reduce further issues. :silly: Sorry to keep posting to myself but hopefully someone else will benefit from reading what happened to me.

Flashing Ubuntu devices to Android or the other way round is possible but not easy. You have to repartition your device to fit the other OS'es needs. If you want, you can find some information on the internet regarding that.
The Android files are still there because Ubuntu relies on some Android code for harware drivers. That makes it easy for harware vendors to get started.

Ok. Step 1 is done: Fastboot mode -> 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' -> Recovery Mode. In recovery I see Flyme screen with 2 options: install update(it asks for update.zip in root) or clear data. My question is how to transfer update.zip, while ADB is not seeing my phone?
Can I just use "fastboot update update.zip" from my command line while my phone is attached and staying in fastboot mode??

It's very simple. In Windows, just open Computer and you will see the recovery partition showing up, copy and paste it over there and make sure it has the name "update.zip" otherwise it won't detect it. Finally, hit upgrade and wait until it finish.

No, I've updated it through the "Upgrade" app within the Android. It will download the 4.2.8.2A OTA file with 415.29MB on the root folder of the device as update.zip, then it will ask to reboot to upgrade.

Mamdou7 thank you for your answers, there is no need to make a screen shots, while the installation is very simple, just sometimes you have to switch you brain . I figured out to enable dev mode in Flyme and forced recovery boot from ADB, while pressing Vol-up and Power was not helpful. I'm going to try international package, because I'm little bit confused with partially localized interface in Chinese version.

after that, if you want to change kingroot to super su, u can folowing this:
download this file http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3333295&d=1432683529 and extract to internal sdcard
install app "Terminal Emulator" from ch play. open it and type "su" for root permission, then type "sh /sdcard/mrw/root.sh", wait...
Reboot your phone, and finaly your phone get root with supersu.
So its a way to root Xperia C4/C5. Can anyone make recovery for C4/C5. Tks alots

It's Work my E5333 rooted.
I was able to root my E5506 (Wind Mobile) with or without USB debugging on. I tried both ways and it works using the latest Kingroot 4.8 app. It might reboot in the middle of rooting but just continue after the phone reboots. if it fails just try to root it again and it should work after a few tries.
I managed to install Titanium Backup Pro, Busy Box without any issues.
Note: If your Titanium Backup won't allow you to backup in your sd card, just download the app in the play store called SDfix. This app should fix your sd issues in TB. [emoji4]
If you flash a firmware using flashtool you will lose root so you'll have to re-root.
Nice, I'll try to change the root manager to SuperSU. Thanks for the info!
let me know if you manage to make it work. I tried to switch to super su but I keep getting error on su binary when it tries to update
OK Root C4
In my C4 I run until the fifth attempt. Xperia c4 5306
Fine...
After rooting can i use flashify to flash custon recovery? There's a custom recovery for C5 ultra by Bigrammy.
if your bootloader is unlocked you probably can install a custom recovery. my phone's bootloader is still locked just was able to get root access.

Doesn't biggrammy's custom recovery method address' this fact? It may show as "secure = yes" but recovery can still be flashed.
Quote:
following info from Sony my phone stated “NO” and as you can see the bootloader info said secure = yes but been a I went ahead anyway and here is the weird and lucky for us thing.
After I unlocked it I got (bootloader) secure = NO from fastboot but the System software still reported Bootloader unlock allowed = No
Nothing tripped no warranty warnings nothing it’s like the system never even knew sweet.

Success changing KingRoot to SuperSU!
Just follow the rules precisely as are mentioned in the following post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/replace-kingroot-superuser-guide-t3251013
Oh yeah! Confirmed Kingroot to SuperSU is a success here too! Thank you pablo_xperia for sharing that link [emoji4]
I don't know why it didn't work for me the first time I rooted my phone but this time definitely worked like a charm.

Yes I understand that bigrammy did mention in his thread that some may show "secure=yes" but recovery can still be flashed. I am just worried about mine being a carrier bought phone not being able to flash the fotakernel. I don't want to screw up my phone just yet. Right now i'm fine with being rooted and have superSU installed.

You have to install supersu and terminal. Put wrm dir into phone storage
Follow the commands,
Su
/Sdcard/wrm/root.sh
When it completes, go launch supersu and update binary.
Then reboot

Ok cool but this nokia phone can't be bootloaded into; it's always locked, even if you tick on allow oem unlocking in dev settings fastboot will tell you it doesn't have permission. Whats the purpose of this? Is there some kind of way to get past it that I am not aware of?

You need to unlock bootloader, it is a paid service....
@Maherabed1986 can you add link to the bootloader unlock to your guide?

I have not seen this service anywhere, I did see that a page containing this service was deleted due to paid services, though. Regardless, I can imagine only a few handfuls of people being able to make use of this, which is a shame.. I hope in the future some method of unlocking it at home gets discovered, but that probably won't happen knowing nokia.

I also hope, not because $5 is much for it, but I rather do it myself w/o giving my IMEI or any other infos to someone. As it was on Nexus devices.

I'm new here and I don't know much about phones but I'll ask a dumb question anyway. Can't you do something about unlocking the bootloader now that you have a working rooted version w/ twrp ? If the answer is no please elaborate on why not.

@Maherabed1986 Thank you for getting this device rooted. Why does Magisk has Preserve force encryption selected by default?
Is the Nokia 6.1 encrypted by default? I had many Android devices and none were encrypted by default. I didn't know this Nokia was encrypted until I saw it on Magisk.
@Maherabed1986 Thanks so much for your efforts, I would like to contribute a dump of my boot.img for my model of Nokia 6.1 (TA-1045) but the instructions didn't quite work the way I expected, when I attempt to temp boot into the bootloader linked for the Nokia 6.1 it just boots into regular Android and then trying to su in the adb shell it tells me the command can't be found (because I am not rooted yet, of course). Am I missing something? How can I help?

It's not possible to unlock while sys.oem_unlock_allowed is set to 0, and since he is unable to boot into system and allow it; his only choice is to use Emergency Download Mode from Qualcomm, but as stated before, to use EDL, Mi account with proper authorization is needed, as such 3rd party services may be the only solution.

There is no point he has a locked bootloader we know the issue.
The answer was already commented on the last page.
It needs to be recovered in edl mode but can only be done with a verified mi account. That's the issue it happens quite regularly here and is answered almost every week now.
Very common issue which is why it is important to read documentation before trying any system mods or ROM flashes
