Fingerprint scanner error - Honor 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
There is a problem with my Honor 7 fingerprint scanner. It does not react when being touched and gives false touch vibration 5-10 min after. When trying to add new fingerprints, it gives "Do not move finger on scanner" notifications continuously without even touching anything. When all the actions for scanner are disabled, the phone starts to overheat and drains battery to 0% in about 5h. Even when disconnecting the fingerprint sensor from the phone, still get the same continuously pop-uping notification when trying to add new fingerprints. I did not see any water damage, when opening the phone, but I have used it with wet fingers on some occasions.
Anything else I can try to overcome the overheating problem?

Is there any specific area it overheating?? From battery side or board??

Look for some corrosion on the board or on components

The whole phone is overheating, but the heat seems to be locating from the battery side.
There is no corrosion on the phone or other components.

It could be a faulty battery then..

G5 thinks it's in my pocket whenever it's dark, cant use fingerprint or tap to wake

Also, always on display turns completely off.
Not sure what's going on here, but it's extremely annoying. If I'm outside at night or in a dark room or area my phone thinks it's in my pocket so the fingerprint sensor, tap to wake, and always on display don't work. I have to press the power button extremely hard to get it to turn on.
Also, not sure if related but when I make a phone call, as soon as I dial the number my screen will turn off completely before I even bring the phone up to my ear.
Any ideas?
Make sure there's nothing in front of the proximity sensor. When that is triggered and it's dark, it disables the fingerprint reader and always on display. I use a Life proof case and when I had a screen protector on with that, it caused issues.
Definitely nothing on it. Not using a case or screen protector.

Download a sensor test app, there are many of them on the play store, check the proximity sensor with one of that apps, if it doesn't work then your g5 is faulty
Sent from my LG G5 using XDA Labs
Also noticed when I cover up the sensor my brightness immediately jumps to 0%. It's no longer a slow and steady drop down to 0, it just immediately goes to 0. Like and on/off switch
Just downloaded a lightand proximity sensor test and it seems to work perfect. So I'm not sure what's up.
OK this is weird, there must be a setting I messed up. My auto brightness jumps from 0% to 51% to 100% depending on the lighting I'm in. Nothing in between and no more smooth transitions.
Looks like my proximity sensor is dead. Tested it through and app and it says "near" and never changes.

Fingerprint scanner not working when always on display is off

Did you guys notice that you cannot unlock the phone when the always on display is off ?
Eg. You're keeping the phone in the pocket, you reach for it and take it out. The display hasn't yet fired up (while the phone is in the pocket the AOD is inactive) and at the same time you put your finger on the scanner. This should wake and unlock the phone at the same time but instead only the AOD comes up and screen is not being unlocked.
You can simulate this by locking the phone, covering the front sensors with eg your finger until the AOD turns it self off. Then place your finger on the scanner. The phone should get woken up and unlocked but it stays locked and off.
Anybody knows how to fix it ?
I dont use AOD ..... and mine works fine.
Relax. This is by design to keep it from waking up in your pocket, bag or whatever when you reach in for something else. You'd be even madder if you took your phone out only to find it had been woken up in your pocket and took 106 photos and placed four phone calls and sent texts to your friends that made them call the police because they thought you had a stroke.
It's not that I'm worried about accidental wake ups...
There's a delay between the phone enabling the fingerprint sensor after uncovering the front light sensors etc. which makes the phone to not register the touch on it for unlocking.

And now you know why it does that. You might not be worried about accidental wake ups but most people would probably be highly annoyed to take their phone out and find it firing off 20 photos. of pocket lint.

Fingerprint sensor stops working

sometimes the indisplay Fingerprint sensor stops working at all.
The display wont recognize any touch and stays black.
If i push the Power button it starts working again.
This happens sporadically, 1 -3x a day
Did anyone had the same Problem?
Any suggestions?

I haven't seen this problem. I use face unlock along with it and it usually recognizes my face before I can even scan it.
When the screen is black, you can put your finger on the display and some glowing circle Appears. This does not appear to me at all. The screen just stays Black.
Thx for the information.

Maybe your fingerprints got erased somehow? Does your phone display a fingerpring icon on the screen a second after you turn the screen off?
Sent from my LYA-L29 using XDA Labs
Yes the second I turn if off it shows a fingerprint sensor. Just after a while it won't toggle the sensor if I touch the display. It's like the fingerprint sensor is deactivated. The second I turn the display on manually it appears again.
Hello! I've got the p20 pro and now I'm testing mate 20 pro. Sometimes I'm not able to unlock the mate with my fingerprints at all. Same finger. The p20 works perfect, just touch and unlock. Mate sometimes I have to touch it 3-4 times before it unlocks , sometimes it doesn't unlock at all? Is that normal? The display was exchanged already because of this issue.
I believe you guys are not the only one. This on screen finger print is not reliable. I guess because they are new and will improve over time. Personally I just use face recognition than finger print. They are a lot more faster and accurate to unlock.
I know it's an old thread but it's happening to my M20Pro right now! It's awful! The screen is protected by a tempered glass made by Spigen (maybe this glass has issues?). I reconfigured the fingerprint and I touched almost 50 times until the phone captured the fingerprint! What's wrong with that sensor?!
I had problems with glass protector, if you can get plastic film it is fine, glass you will have problems....this was my finding
Possible brightness/proximity sensor issue

If you still have this phone and problem: I have a P30 Pro, and/but the reason I write here is because our phones share the fingerprint technology, and I didn't find anyone mentioning this problem regarding P30 Pro. So:
I have the same problem - seemingly sporadically the fingerprint sensor (or screen) wont react until I press the power button. Then I noticed that when the brightness/proximity sensor (located near the top right on the P30 Pro, and next (right) to the upper speaker on Mate 20 Pro) was covered, the screen would get unresponsive. I guess this is by design, to not accidently let your phone come to life in your pocket. The problem was/is that the proximity (?) sensor is way too sensitive - any obstruction at about 2 cm (0.8") above the sensor(s) will trigger this behaviour. I also think it can be triggered under other circumstances; I had som weird fingerprint/screen behaviour in a store with a high and very dark ceiling, but I have to test this again, so don't take my word for it.
Anyway - if anyone is having sporadic problems - see if this could be a reason.
Edit: Well, sometimes my screen is just totally unresponsive even without sensors blocked, so ... I noticed it a couple of times after digging my phone out of my pocket, suggesting it could still have something to do with the sensors turning the screen (functions) off. I'll try to see if I can make it behave the same way in other scenarios.
I have also been experiencing similar problems on my mate 20 pro, But mine is more of an accuracy problem. sometimes its on point and registers instantly. and other times it just doesnt at all.
However i have noticed that in extremely bright weather i have more issues, fingerprint doesnt read at all, and face ID is also doesn't. My finger print issues have started only after EMUI 10.1, so i suspect that it could possibly be a software related issue

"Lock Screen Loop" Issue?

My LG V30 VS996 will occasionally get stuck in what I've called the "Lock-Screen Loop", where it'll flash the lock screen, start to load things, and then immediately put itself to sleep and do it again. It looks like I'm turning the phone on and off without unlocking it. The fingerprint scanner doesn't work, Knock-On doesn't work, volume buttons don't work, the only thing that works is restarting the phone.
I have scoured all over the internet and tried toggling every possible setting that might be related to this issue, and still I've come up with something. It's so infuriating.
There's no easy way to recreate it, but it'll happen at least once a day, sometimes more than 4 or 5 times. The circumstances to make it occur change, too. Sometimes I'll go to turn it on with the fingerprint scanner and it'll happen, sometimes it's completely off and I'm not touching it and it happens, and other times I'll be scrolling through Twitter or whatever and it'll just happen.
Has anyone else on here ever experienced this or have an easy fix? I could try factory resetting it but I'd really rather not do that; my phone wasn't receiving the 8.0 update so I had to manually put it on and I'm afraid it'll revert itself and I'll have to go through all that hassle again. (Frankly, I don't remember how I did it, but the lock screen looping started long after I did that).
Any suggestions or help would be very much appreciated

Factory resetting will not wipe out Oreo.
The same problem comes up when in Pie. It seemed that the latest security update would have fixed it, but no.
I wonder if someone has a solution, other than factory reset.
From how you have explained it, it seems ghost touches on screen, either the digitizer is damaged (a hardware problem) that can happen from heat or dropping the phone. Ghost touches can also hang the phone in a state that fingerprint scanner or volume buttons may not work because cpu is too busy processing constant ghost touches. I had this happen to me when i dropped a phone where at random times the screen would light up as if i did 'knock on', lockscreen would come on for a sec and then phone would go back to sleep and at other times the phone would behave normally. If that's the case with your phone, there is no fix for that and even factory reset will not help.
It is also possible that your phone case or a new or worn out screen protector are interfering with the normal function of digitizer by producing ghost touches. Inspect the screen, especially the curved edges, if you have a piece of debris or phone case interfering with screen. If you use a case, try not use it for a day and see if it happens. If it still happens, remove the screen protector, put the case back on and see if it still happens.

Disable Fingerprint Sensor Redmi Note 11

Fingerprint sensor instantly wakes up phone, making me unable to manually lock the phone which is what I've always wanted, I've been researching with almost no progress, besides knowing that this is not an issue, it is intended to be this way. However I have root access and I refuse to belive that I can't just disable the sensor completely, it is worth noting that this problem started when I began using DerpFest 13 Community Tango 20221114 1210 (Flashed from Stock), the Stock from Miui and Another Vanilla Android 13 didn't have this problem, I think spending 8 hours trying to fix the problem is enough time to get some help from you guys:
- Genteman solutions I have already tried:
[FIX] Disable Fingerprint Sensor & Wake Up Completely
I see so many questions in threads. Even if you don't set a fingerprint password, sensor still works and screen opens up. This can be annoying. So if you're not using fingerprint at all you can delete (or temporarily disable) it from your ROM...
forum.xda-developers.com
(I didn't found anything to delete in those directories, fair enough since that post only mentions MIUI stock and Nougat/Oreo, and 13 is Tiramisu)
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 completely disable fingerprint scanner
Unintentional touching the fingerprint scanner, even with no fingerprints saved, wakes up device, which can be quite annoying and lead to several scenarios: -battery drain -turn on camera when in pocket -pause video in VLC -turn on flashlight...
forum.xda-developers.com
(I did found those files, which I promptly edited with the # at the start of each line, rebooted with no result, completely deleted and rebooted with no result and leave the files blank and reboot, again, with no result (Shocker, right?)
- Caveman solutions I have already tried:
Taping the button with the strongest, thickest duck tape I had around, (Yes, seriously), which did In fact worked but because the duct tape is an adhesive sometime it sticks, sealing the button down, therefore making it unreliable.
Tin the Button with a soldering iron to make it unable to do the **** that I don't want it to do, obviously it didn't work because the Tin with the resin flux can't stick to a piece of plastic.
Disassembling the phone to manually remove the sensor, which made me realize how insane hard is the glue holding the back and I don't have a hot air pump to open it, and the Oven didn't seem like a good idea to me.
- Solutions I'm trying as you are reading this:
Making a flat piece the same size as the button in blender to print it and superglue it.
Deleting all Google bloatware from the current ROM.
Looking with SD Maid for the driver/.com/file that remotely relates to fingerprint sensor to delete it.
Probably resting because I'm tired of pulling my hair out
Edit: Oh yeah and before any smartass comes saying "Actually don't use that rom duh", I'm posting this because derpfest is a really fantastic rom and I want to keep using it, I don't want to switch to a worse rom for something that could be fixed with a piece of plastic and superglue.
