A green vertical line on the screen. Bad screen? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

A vertical green line appears on my phone tonight. Just got my phone a little bit over a month. Can I go to tmobile store to exchange one? When I use Dead pixel test to check, i couldn't see anything.

Yes, take it to T-Mobile to exchange. LG will probably tell you to as well. People have been exchanging their phones because of uneven panel lighting since the debut (something LG won't cover under warranty), T-Mobile should have no problem doing an exchange for an obvious defect like this.
If you want to make sure it's not an overlay or something (shouldn't be, reasonably sure the lockscreen can't be overlaid bcos security), reboot the phone and see if it still shows up during booting. Alternatively, try getting into recovery and see if it shows up there. Looks like a wonky panel to me, though.

Thanks. Will tmo try to blame the user and not to exchange one? Just curious and get ready for any unexpected situation.

I had mine replaced when I had a single light line down the centre no questions asked.
Replacement is great- screen is perfect (to me anyway!)

I don't know how they could. It's extremely difficult to damage a plastic-substrate display panel, that's one of their main benefits; you'd pretty much have to open the phone up and physically go at it.
If your digitizer is intact and the waterproofing isn't compromised (not that they'll have a way on-site to even check the latter), you should have no issues.

Thanks everyone. I'll report back.
Update: Tmobile twitter customer service rep wants to charge me $20 + tax for the warranty exchange. Did you guys get charge for the fee?

I exchanged in store but if you have to do it online, see if there is someone above them who might waive that fee.

Possible "fix"
Saw this post like a year ago and now I want to help .I got the same issue, green thick line one the middle of the screen.Unfortunately I was not able to replace it.sometimes the line is there and sometimes not i did not know why it shows up and dissapears from time to time Aaand..... Recently i found out that it dissapears when my phone completly runs out of battery and the only leftover is thin burnd out line of pixels (not completly burned out, burnd out like normal oled screen) again, its not a fix the line will usually come back after a month or 2 or 3. But then i just drain my phone to 0%. Works for meI cant guarantee anything but its worth trying.

worth fixing?

I made another post explaining that my phone will turn off by itself randomly and then today I had something very unusual happen. it was charging in my car, then suddenly stopped charging even(was at 62%). I unplugged it & plugged it back in then suddenly the screen glitched out and went black(but the power light was still on). The phone was unresponsive so I unplugged it and pulled the battery. I waited a bit & put the battery back and then it turned on normally. Once it was up though, the bottom left corner of the screen was super bright and looked like it had fluid behind the screen. I freaked out and pulled the battery again. I then took the phone apart and found it was completely dry and no water damage indicators. I sprayed it all down with canned air and put it back together but it still has that issue in the bottom corner(although the screen is still operating fine).
whatever that problem is, it takes up more then enough of the screen to bother anyone + is still doing the random power offs. I do not have insurance + with the S-OFF and the void sticker now removed from the screw I doubt Verizon will do anything. I'm sure it will be over $100 to fix this(just not sure how much more), so would it be worth it to fix this or just buy another phone off of craigslist?
Call Verizon and tell them about your problem. have them send you a replacement as it is still under warranty. When you get the new one CAREFULLY remove the void sticker (heat it up, hair dryer, lighter, whatever you have lying around that can do it) from the replacement, and put it on the one you are sending back.

Unfortunately, since I traded my old phone for this Thunderbolt they(Verizon) told me it is no longer under a warrenty. Instead, they offered to send me a new Thunderbolt in the mail for $250.... I then asked about the Bionic and was told they'd give me a new Bionic for $300. I'm debating what to do now.
p.s. a local cell phone shop said they could fix my phone for $140 but couldn't guarantee if the buttons at the bottom of my phone would light up again or not.
Do you mean you already have a replacement Tbolt? If so I think you only get a 90 day warranty on those.

well, i got my original TB when i signed up with Verizon. i took it back within the 30 day period and exchanged it for an Incredible 2... some time later i traded the Incredible 2 with someone for this TB.
so more or less, yes... replacement of sorts. i explained this to the verizon rep(who apparently already knew).

[Q] Does every gs2 come with defective screens?

I had purchased a Galaxy S2 T989 and it came with a defective screen. The screen had some vertical lines and spots that were visible when the brightness was low, so I returned it for a refund.
After receiving my refund I went to amazon and purchased the GS2 GT-I9100 (international version) and I just received it yesterday, I was playing with it for a while and noticed that it also has some lines on the screen. It doesn't look as bad as the T989, you can barely see those lines when you set the brightness above 50%, but they are still there and that really bothers me because I paid $70 more just to get another phone with a faulty screen.
I don't know what to do with this phone, I still have 29 days to return it for a replacement, but I'm scared that they're gonna send me another faulty phone and if I return it for a refund they will charge me a restocking fee

can it be fixed?
I did the exact same thing as you, switching from the T989 (with a faulty screen) to a i9100. My i9100 also has some lines on the screen, but it is much better and much less noticeable. My advice is to enjoy your phone as it is, but if the lines really bother you that much, the best thing to do is to get another type of phone I'm not sure if it can be fixed either as most phones have some extent to screen lines.
I've purchased my I9100 through my carrier, and I don't see any problems with screen. I have heard of problems with screen, but I myself didn't have any. I think you do have a right for a replacement, since it is faulty.
i also have lines on my screen. the phone itself is faulty so you do have the right to get it fixed at least. i am in 2 minds of sending it back as its not that noticable.
just how much does it annoy you?
the lines in the gradient are actually a software issue where the phone used 16 bit colours for performance

To be honest, I would be more annoyed by being limited to Edge data speeds with the i9100 on T-Mobile USA's "4g" network, more than I would by the screen. This applies to both you and the OP.
I don't really care about being limited to the edge data speed since I rarely use the data network, the faulty screen is what annoys me more. I'm pretty sure that they won't fix if I return it, they're just going to send me another faulty phone, so I think I'm gonna keep it for a while.

You could be right, but it may be even worse. You said you bought it through Amazon. When you bought the item, did it have "no warranty" in the description? (unfortunately, most i9100's sold on Amazon seem to have this in the description...) If it did, then they aren't even obligated to replace it at all, I don't think.
That said, I have an i9100 (bought through Expansys USA though, not Amazon), and my screen is flawless.
Could be worth it to try to obtain a spare part screen + digitizer somewhere and try to replace the part yourself, if you feel up to it. Though it will still cost you. Quick google search for this part shows it being about $180.
EDIT: though, if there IS a return policy, just return the thing. Or see if they'll exchange it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I went to amazon.com and it seems that they can give me a replacement or a refund and they won't charge me a restocking fee since the phone is defective.
I'm not sure whether to go for a refund or a replacement. What would you suggest me to do?

If you still want the i9100 regardless of slow mobile data speed on T-mobile USA, then exchange it. Me, personally, I'd return it and get a phone that was actually optimized for my network.

[Q] Warranty through Verizon, Samsung or Use Insurance

I'm hoping all of you could help me with my dilemma.
My phone currently only charges (90% of the time) through USB connecting to the computer. It also transfers data fine between it and the laptop. It's not charging connected to the wall, which is a problem because that means I only get a trickle USB charge. The phone itself still works beautifully. Initially I thought my best option was to get a warranty claim in through Verizon. I also have insurance through Ensquared.
I started googling what Verizon would do if they denied a claim. Would they send your broken phone back no charge? I had thought that if it got denied for warrantyfor whatever reason I could just claim it under insurance. Turns out they won't and if they find anything to void warranty they'll hit you with a $299 charge for the replacement like new device. I was seeing a lot of people online getting denied warranty due to corrosion on the connection in the MicroUSB port.
This got me thinking. It's been SUPER humid where I live lately and we've had a lot of downpours. Maybe some rain trickled into the USB port and corroded one of the contact points? The water indicator under the battery and on the battery itself have not been tripped, however I've read people getting denied warranty even without the indicators tripping and corrosion on the USB port. I know leaving it in a steamy bathroom 1 to many times could corrode the contact points. I'm going to try and take a picture of the connection to see if I see any green, however it may still be hard for me to tell because I don't know 100% what I'm looking for.
A few other notes: Ensquared covers accidental damage due to liquids. They also send out new phones most times. Verizon sends out a certified like new replacement. I also have a backup garbage phone that'll get me by for a few weeks if needed.
So my question. What would all of you do?
1.) Move forward with my warranty claim through Verizon and hope there is no corrosion that causes me to get a denied warranty and a $299 bill. I have the replacement phone right now, but have called and verified I could send it back in the box if I don't want to replace.
2.) Send my phone to Samsung for warranty. Samsung only repairs the phone and they will also repair defects not covered by warranty and bill back to you. I've read online to replace a corroded USB port (assuming that may be the reason for my odd charging) would cost around $80. I will be without my phone for a week min and possibly a few weeks.
3.) Pay the $75 deductible through my insurance and take the safe approach, however a guaranteed amount out of pocket. I'd be without a phone for 2-4 days. Phone likely would be new, but could be refurb.
I'm leaning towards one of these options and want to see if you guys would agree with what I'm thinking of doing.

Anyone? At this point, I'm thinking of picking up some Deoxit from Radio Shack this afternoon and seeing if that fixes my problem. I'm going to return the CLN phone to Verizon and keep my "broken" one. If the Deoxit doesn't work, then I was leaning on going through insurance to be safe. I'd rather pay $75 and know my final cost, then send my phone back and keep my fingers crossed for a week or more to see if I get slammed with a $300 bill after dishing out $600 for my phone off contract.

I don't believe it's the battery because it works fine and it charges fine when connected to USB. When I had it in the CLN device for the few mins while I was reading up on horror stories about Verizon Warranty, it was charging correctly through the wall charger as well (with my old battery in it). I tried deoxit on it last night twice and let it sit overnight, however it's still not perfect. Seems like a few places it wouldn't charge before would charge every now and then, but still nothing out of a wall charger. It's very odd. In any case, I'm returning the CLN device back to Verizon and will just go through my insurance. It's the safest bet of the 3.
I'm a manager at a verizon store. In all honesty just call them and say what it's doing and let them walk you through their trouble shooting steps. After that wall you through they will decide the best option. Most likely they will replace it for free. That's what I would do. Save yourself an insurance claim till you really need one cause you only get 2.

I went to a Verizon store and they looked at it and tried to get it to charge too. Even a manager looked in the USB port to see if there was anything in there with a magnifier with a light. The problem is, they are not technicians and can't tell me if my warranty claim could be denied. They already ordered me a free replacement. I have it here with me, however I'm hesitant to send a phone I spent $680 on to Verizon for a CLN one that I may have to dish out another $299 for if they find anything wrong with it that I'm not aware of. If they would send my phone back if it was denied because I paid for the phone outright, then that'd be a diff story. They used to do that, now they don't. I'd def send it in if it was the old rules, but now it's just a guessing game until you have a few weeks pass with no extra charge.

[Q] Non-responsive touchscreen

I've had my ultra z for a little over a month, love it.....until now. The touchscreen is not responsive on about 90% of the screen, and the other 10% it is iffy. It is unusable now. I bought the phone directly from the sony store in canada, called sony they told me to do a software update using pc companion, which I did, it didn't work. Now I have to send the phone in to "be evaluated" which could take upto 14 business days!!!! No loaner phones are given, so basically I have to scrounge to find a replacement for the next few weeks. I'm posting here to see if 1) anyone else has had this problem and fixed it, and 2) any input on dealing with the service people at sony
The phone has no physical damage, I have never dropped it or hit it against anything, been very careful with it. I didn't put a protector on it. I have cleaned it with water and a microfibre cloth. When I touch the screen it clearly doesn't feel as smooth in all areas, and I am guessing that maybe the oleophobic coating has worn off a bit, and that somehow has affected the touchscreen responsiveness? I can't think of anything else.

6 weeks is quite a bit of time.
Update on my ultra, now it has ZERO responiveness. It is basically a brick. Can't get past the lock screen. This is f'in ridiculous. And on top of things, Sony wants me to pay for the purolator to ship it to them, what a bunch of B.S.
NEVER getting a sony phone EVER again. Should've gone with the Note3 ugh.

So let me get this straight.
You bought it from the Sony store. You returned it to the same store, and they want to charge you for shipping?
Refuse. Simple! Don't pay it. You have 1 year limited warantee. You don't need to pay for anything (unless its user fault) which upon testing they would be able to determine that...
Refuse to pay. Its the stores responsibility. They would then be compensated by Sony corp. HQ

No I haven't yet returned it. I was mistaken about the shipping; Sony emailed me a purolator label for shipping, so it won't cost me to ship it. However, a phone that is 45 days old shouldn't have a dead touchscreen given that the phone hasn't suffered any damage. In addition, I don't give a **** that I'm 15 days over the 30 day store warranty, they should simply exchange the phone, this is absolutely ridiculous. I conveyed that today to Sony and am expecting a manager to call me back within 1-2 business days, we'll see what happens but I don't expect much given the level of customer service so far.

[Q] Dead Phone, Now What?

So I have come to the conclusion that my phone is totally dead. No lights or any response from pushing or holding any combination of buttons, and the charge indicator doesn't come on. No USB activity either. It just died one day while streaming music.
I have picked up a ZTE Zinger as a stand-in, so not in any rush.
Now what do I do with the One? Looking at repair costs, it seems I could just replace it with a very nice used one for even money.
I wouldn't mind selling on Ebay for repair purposes, but I'm not going to do that without being able to wipe it.
Suggestions?

No warranty of any sort. It just sits on a shelf looking pretty, as in totally mint looking, never dropped. :/
Going to just hang onto it for now in case my son is in need of any pieces if something happens to his M7.
The up side is that for about twice what repairs would have cost, T-Mobile had a perfect condition M8 refurb to sell. It really does take what is great about the M7 and kick it up a notch, plus the SD card slot.
The Zinger is destined to become an IP security webcam.
I'm in the same boat. I assume there's no way to wipe it in this condition?
In that case can't even sell it for parts, though from what I've read you don't want to open it anyway because it's too difficult to do w/o damaging it.
