Why my camera is not in full screen mode? - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

As title said, my camera cannot display in full screen mode instead it only display in part of the screen as the black screen occupy by the button selection, can somebody help me?

You have your camera set at 4:3 resolution. Set it to 16:9 (slide left menu) and you should get full screen.

Is this suppose to be pro mode in camera setting? I mean if i set as standard to resolution setting is disable and I cannot click on the resolution. Only if I change to pro mode then only i can change the resolution but this is annoying since the pro mode show the information block the screen

To get full screen you must set resolution to 8MP 18:9 aspect if you have M10pro
Or 16:9 if normal M10 i think

No, don't need Pro mode. Just pull from the right side of the camera app. This will get you into general settings.
Chose 16:9 format, then slide the setting page closed.

Disable any add-on. (portrait mode, wide aperture mode) Then change resolution.

I am having the same problem on my Huawei nova 3e. The issue is not about the camera being in full screen mode. The issue is some items which are displayed down below cannot be displayed anymore. For example, if I go to pro mode, it cannot display items like iso, etc so that I can adjust the settings. Or if I click portrait mode, it does not display where to click for bokeh effect or adjust beauty

how to set camera to 12MP mode?

I was reading some reviews with the camera and some people said they can set the camera to 12MP or 9MP mode depending on 16:9 or 4:3 (which I have no idea what it means), how would I be able to get better pictures?

For changing to 12 MP mode, press menu button while on camera app, and choose Resolution (the icon with is a rectangle with a number on it) and choose 12 MP.
Oh, and 16:9 -> Rectangular photo (I like that way more), just like big TVs.
4:3. Square-ish photos, just like the old 15 inch monitors.
coming from an iphone I ALWAYS forget about the menu button (far right), I only expect options on the screen, so 16:9 is when you hold the phone sideways? and 4:3 is when you hold it the normal way?
is 12MP only showing the 4:3 ratio? Not sure how I can get 12MP and 16:9.
you cannot use 12MP as 16:9 ratio.
I and almost everyone else using it as 9MPX...also on 8mpx i use 6mpx which is 16:9...and 8 is 4:3

Yeah. More or less like that. But you can take 4:3 photos while you're holding your phone in landscape mode ( I.e using camera button). The photos will be the same.

I ntoice that in the dark my camera screen kind of lags when I move the phone around, but in the daytime the screen is very smooth when I move the phone around, does this have anything to do with the auto setting? What do you guys recommend for camera settings?
For me auto settings work well most of the time.

Questions about the camera

So I've had the phone for a couple of weeks an am loving the camera. However there are a few things I've not been able to figure out with regards to the camera, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction:
1: When in Auto mode or Manual mode, I can't seem to turn on OIS. The OIS icon is grayed out. Can I use OIS in these modes? If so, how do I turn it on? In what modes is OIS available?
2: Is there anyway of changing the default metering mode? Even on my old Galaxy S4 I could switch between Matrix metering, Center weighted and Spot metering.
3: Is there any way of taking bracketed shots?
4: Why when in manual mode do the various controls not rotate between landscape and portrait modes. When I'm holding the phone vertically the WB, MF, ISO etc.. controls are in landscape mode.
I do own Camera FV-5 and I know that solves some of these issues. Does anyone know if FV-5 will use OIS?
Any Insight is appreciated.
1. You might have issue with your phone. Click on auto, then settings wheel, when switching it takes between 1-3 seconds from gray to white.
Manual mode does not have OIS available.
2. Metering mode. Sorry, can't switch. I know, it sucks.
3. Bracketed shots, ?.
4. It has to do with the widened of the screen . They set the UI up like that. The settings and flash will rotate but not the others. Maybe update to LG's camera UI in future will bring that.
Nope, the OIS won't turn on.
Is this something I need to check with Verizon on?

1. OIS/Steadyshot option is available on Auto mode for rear camera (See attached). I think in manual mode it defaults to OIS, and SteadyShot in Manual Video Mode. (See Pic attached).
2. I was missing this feature as well, no different metering option unfortunately. The only thing I noticed that works is a spot metering using the FFC, you can touch a spot and the metering will be based on your spot of choice.
3. No Bracketed Shots in the default camera app as well, need to look into 3rd party apps. There's only burst mode, which is different, and even then it's only with the FFC.
4. THIS is my biggest pet peeves as well, such a bad UX design. You would think that they would take into account that people will use the phone in both orientation instead of just landscape. This problem doesn't just happen in camera mode unfortunately. I wished the 2nd screen icon will rotate as well when you put your phone in landscape mode because currently it's fixed into portrait.

1: I cleared data and cache data on the camera app and that seemed to fix it. I know have OIS again.
2&3 frustrating, but I guess that's why I have Camera FV-5.
4: My second screen icons all rotate to landscape and back to portrait. Weird that your's don't.

I tried Manual Camera app the other day, you can bump the FFC ISO up past the default setting on that one. I think I could bump it up to like ISO 12800, and yes it looks like **** lol. But it's an option.
Are you talking about the second screen within the camera app? In camera app, yes it rotates. Other than that, no they don't rotate. Like say when you're watching a video or doing something else in landscape mode, my second screen is fixed into portrait mode. So when a text or notification comes in, they don't roll the "correct" way.

My second screen rotates regardless of the app I'm in. You may want to do a factory reset and see if that fixes the issue. if not I'd go back to the store and do an exchange.
I've not heard of the manual camera app. What does it bring that the stock or Camera FV-5 don't?

Slow Motion video problem

Hello, guys! I had a serious issue with the slow-mo video of the G5..The problem is that when i start recording and the colors are changing non-stop..
The colors goes like the warmth go down..Did anyone else have that problem and how to solve it? Any ideas?
Unfortunetly i can't show u the video i found in youtube witch is the same problem like mine...
It's due to the automatic white balance, try using manual camera mode (there are some threads in LG G5 Mods Section that explain how to enable manual video if you don't have a custom rom) and manually set white balance, resolution to 1280x720 and FPS to 120.

Yeah, this is a good idea, but it needs root and the phone is not rooted...other idea? Because really am wondering what are the good and the bad things into rooting the phone
Any kind of modification to system apps require root. You can use other apps that allow white balance for video, such as Cinema FV-5. Even though the profe$$ional version has much more controls for color grading, in free version you can manually set and lock the white balance. From the user manual:
On supported devices you can lock the automatic white balance algorithm.
Auto white balance lock.
If the white balance is set to auto, when the toggle is active, the automatic white balance algorithm will stop running, keeping the last calculated scene temperature. Tap again the toggle to unlock it and recalculate the scene color temperature.
Tip
If you usually record clips with the white balance locked, you might find more comfortable to have Cinema FV-5 to lock the white balance for you automatically during the clip recording. To do so, activate the option Settings > Video > Lock white balance during recording

I don't remember if that app can take slow motion videos though.

Yes, found it but any idea why I can't see effects like hearts, circles, swirl , etc... In portrait mode ?
There are 3 buttons in the lower part of the Portrait viewfinder. The first one(left) sets the type of bokeh. It's probably set to "None" in your case. Aperture mode is a separate mode/tab to the left

Yes, there are buttons but effects are not visible at all, with or without face detected. The new camera app is really crap...

Exactly that I meaned ... Effect not visible
Works well. Just select something other than "None"
Tried to remove the tired mug, but couldn't...
Those effects are based on lights behind you they won't just appear..
I have taken a few successfully, try to picture something in front of Christmas lights and see the magic
Yes, the shape chosen for the blur is more visible when applied to lights, but no Portrait bokeh can be seen when "None" is selected. Also, sometimes it forgets that setting and you have to enable it again

And f zoom in camera mode switch to >1x and then go to video mode, no problem found. May any way to add minimum zoom limit option in setting or make default zoom setting value is 1.1x.

Hi @nickadsy, this thread is being closed since a GCam thread already exists. Kindly continue the discussion in this thread. Having multiple threads for different versions of the same mod is not productive, and it's better to have one single thread where the discussion can take place.
Have a nice day!
