Are these phones overall better than S8+?

Better than S8+?? Man nooo. But they can come real close to its performance, but also remember they are very worthy for the price you pay. Like someone has already said it's the Mi6 and Mi Mix2 the Mix 2 being the better one.

But looking at the specs we would expect that Mi Mix 2 should be faster, have better performance. Am I missing something?

Specs are just to give the customers an idea of what a phone is capable of. Whether the device is fully able to utilise that power of its hardware depends on how the device is built by the manufacturer. Every single component used by Samsung on their flagships is the most advanced and most up to date hardwares available in the market. Xiaomi also uses the latest hardwares but due to their pricing they have to sacrifice on some things.

This or Moto? Advice?

Hi right now I have a Samsung s3 mini value edition (words cannot describe how bad it is), and I have a limited budget to buy a new phone. I can't get anywhere near enough for op3. I'm stuck between this and Moto G4 plus. I can only afford the 2gb ram Moto. Do you think it's worth spending the extra for this. Will the 2gb ram severely limit the Moto and will it be laggy. I've heard things about heating issues and cpu issues on this device, and support issues. Is the software support bad? Thanks
one plus 2 is great device, yes it has problem with heating coz of snapdragon 810.. but if root and install cm 14.1 nougat version, the problem is less.. how about xiaomi phone. is cheap and fast phone.. i suggest get redmi note 3... snapdragon 650 and 3g ram.. it also a lot of custom rom and development but the real problem is to unlock bootloader.. it quiet difficult
Hey bro, listen up!
It all depends on your personal preference.
But if u are asking me to choose from one of the devices you mentioned above, oneplus 2 would be the most obvious choice reason being it was a flagship device, so its got a hell lot more support than the moto g4. For the other departments like Screen quality, build quality, battery life might equivalent in both the devices but oneplus excells in sheer performance, good looks, low light camera performance. On the other hand, fast charging, expandable storage faster android updates may be the + points in moto g4. And regarding heating, the oneplus heats up like any other phone under heavy loads, i mean its just normal. Both the devices go upto 42-44 degrees if u r playing MC5 for about an hour.
Apart from these two devices, i would like you to go with none of 'em but Xiaomi redmi note 3 pro (3gb ram version). Its an excellent device with almost every feature in it pocket and will cost you same as the moto g4. Super good performance (snapdragon 650 is a beast) along with beefy battery which can give u 6-7 hours of sot even with heavy usage. Its got pretty good development support (2gb ram version is however not popular among devs) and a highly durable build quality. Moto g4 is simply no match for this dragon and it surely surpasses oneplus two overall. The only con i see in rn3 is the camera is on the weaker side but still its captures well in ample lighting conditions.
OnePlus 2 wud be my 1st choice, using it since last 1 year and i can say the development section is quite good, battery is decent display and usage is very smooth with negligible lag.
There was some heating issue but could be controlled with custom kernels.(ohh come on after all it had SD810 proccr, a little bit of heat issue is acceptable )
Still a happy owner of OnePlus 2
Thanks for all the replies . Unfortunately it doesn't look I'll be able to get a xiaomi because they are hard to get from China. Looks like the op2 will be the best choice then. Does it get decent support and updates from oneplus? I'll probably end up with custom roms eventually but it would be nice to know that the legit support is good.
Oneplus will officially support op2 until August 2017 atleast. And for xiaomi, u can try getting it from online sites like gearbest etc. They ship worldwide.
Thanks l. Gearbest looks good. As a last question, can any of you say how good the camera is between op2 and xiaomi note 3. (maybe the moto as well)

Should I buy a LeEco Le Max 2?

Hi guys,
I have been using an elephone p7000 since I bought it on their launch promotion. The lack of rom support and a few issues have finally made me consider a new phone. The Le Max 2 seems the best value for $180 USD for the 32GB version. Should I be looking elsewhere?
Thanks

I would say dont buy it as the support for le max 2 is very less. Buy something else, dont fall for the price with high specs. Also it has some problems with its display, the colors are not so natural

Bought it recently, came from a Mediatek device, and I'm happy with the move.
If you're OK with no headphone jack, I would say it's definitely worth it. Camera is a BIG upgrade to me, if that's important to you. Rom support is also a step from any Mediatek device (for obvious reasons). Build quality is very good, battery life is also good considering it's a QHD screen, screen itself is OK in terms of colour reproduction, no issues with outdoor sunlight. Just installed Lineage OS 14.1 and it's working great.
Maybe pay a bit more for the 64GB version if you need more space.

Nope display is not fine and by display i mean colors. The colors on custom roms are way too much saturated. If you use any different phone from different vendor for 2-3 weeks then the colors of leeco starts annoying. Even the colors on the stock rom is not good, it is better compared to custom rom but still not so accurate.

And support doesn't only means software support(never said anything about warranty). If some accident happens with phone's hardware, may it be screen, camera glass or any other hardware part then you cant get anything original to repair it. You have to opt for some different low quality hardware for which you will be charged quite the same as original one. So if anyone is going to buy anything new, its better not to buy anything from a closed company

for a Samsung galaxy that s not a screen repair

Lol so basically he should even let his 190€ go to waste. And no problem in it is solvable, like the colors are over saturated, repair that. I have a redmi note 3 too. And guess what i use my note 3 as primary device cause this phone even in a custom rom slower than note 3. Yes on reality it should be more faster and should produce more nice results even in terms of gpu but when i install same thing on this phone and note 3,note 3 installs it faster. When i play war robots, this phone will make me wait more 2-3 seconds even when the timer has ended to start the match, no such problems in note 3. Lets agree to disagree that this phone has better chip but its not good because the implementation of the chipset is bad, a 2k resolution burns up all the battery and takes a whole lot of cpu and gpu.
Try some other phones with 650 or above chipsets from some other companies, you would know what i am referring to. This phone just doesnt performs as a 820. And one of my friend recently got a mi A1 and guess what, its camera is better compared to this one. I never thought that can be possible so i tested it for 15mins and mi A1 won.
And dont waste your money, better buy something else if you want to use it for 2 more years. This phone wont get any far even with development on xda. While the new phone which are released nowadays will get development for more than 3-4 years as after all this phone is already 1 year old. I would say go for honor 9i,its chipset would be even better compared to sd630 as kirin655 was better compared to sd625

My colours are fine, and workspeed isn't slower than on similar devices (one plus), there are enough vids on YouTube. I agree that missing spare parts are a problem, but the situation wasn't different on my last phone, which was a popular mainstream device.

So now you tell it yourself that after a year when this phone is already 1 year old with no support of hardware, will you recommend it to buy someone. Will you yourself buy it at this point of time when the next year is so close and next year's mid range phones are coming here whose camera will beat it without any doubt and also they will get better hardware support and better software support from xda.
I would say he should wait this year or should go for coolpad cool 6 as it sports a nice camera with 653 soc. But this is way too outdated.
The main problem is, this phone hasnt sold much due to which even the support from xda is not so huge as compared to redmi note 3(speaking from personal experience) which came early than it but have been sold twice more than le max 2. Basically the one which sells more gets more support from xda afterall the devs do want their work to be appreciated by more people

There are more than enough good ROMs on XDA, I really don't know why you wish more support. I would never buy a phone with a 6xx soc if I can get an 820 for the same money. The 1440p display is great for VR, but you are right, in daily use you probably wont notice a difference, it's just nice to be able to say "retina? haha now that's some low res ****". So I would recommend it, but only if you like to play around with different ROMs, flash tweaks, etc.
If you want to have a phone ready to use out of the box you should take another one.
I guess it depends on where you are and how cheap it is. I bought mine from ebay(US) for $200 (64 GB version). Had mine for a few months (its an x829) and I've had no issues with it. Fingerprint scanner works(though sometimes it does requiere more than 1 try, no screen flickering issues. The phone itself is not bad, ive flashed a couple of custom roms but always end up going back to modified stock. I would definitely recomend this phone, or the LE pro 3. Good bang for buck on both of them. Sure, we might never see official nougat but that doesnt bother me at least.

Dunno, I do some gaming and havent noticed lag on my emulators (ppsspp, epsxe) or in heavy games (I played unkilled and dead trigger, as well as a few MMOs.) I use crisballgreece rom with AKT profiles so whenever i play i use performance profiles. For me, the phone is ok, but only if you can get it cheap. The pro 3 is less than $200 on amazon US. Snapdragon 821 but the camera is a bit worse and screen is a bit smaller.

Yes i am not denying that the phone isnt best at its price rate but one shouldnt go for it majorly because the colors are oversaturated compared to other phones. Brightness is not so high as it should be. Stock rom is best but performance in it sucks. Also its already 1 year old phone so even the support from the xda will get less. So he should better buy something of this year or wait 4 or 5 more months to get hands on the good phones from next year

Snapdragon Vs Exynos - Not Looking So Hot For Exynos

Just wanted to share this very direct comparison I found on YouTube, directly comparing the Snapdragon 855 to the Exynos 9820 both running on S10 software. Really not looking great for Exynos in relative comparison to the Snapdragon at least for the S10. Let me know what you guys think about this comparison.

1. Will that translate to real world? We all know the grain of salt to take with benchmarks.
2. That's as good as it gets for SD, exynos will have custom kernels that could improve performance.
Not to mention the exynos could have an edge on battery. I'm not worried a bit.

I am also curious to know how this translates. The guy who created this benchmarks specifically states its supposed to translate to real world performance pretty well, but that's taking his word for it. We will see.

1. That depends on the user. Nobody really cares about a phone talking an extra second or two to open an app but if it's work related then your time wasted is money lost.
2. There are Snapdragon variants with unlocked bootloader's as well.
3. It doesn't. There are videos on YouTube you can search for.

Do you happen to know which regions/models specifically will have an unlocked bootloader? How much development do you think we will see for those few models?
Really want an exynos chispset for the unlock, but none of them support band 71 as far as I know. Currently faced with a huge dilemma

I'm sorry, I was under the impression that the Latin American and Hong Kong Snapdragon variants were unlocked from the start (previous models) but turns out they need to be unlocked manually, I assume though some type of vulnerability.
People are talking about cancelling preorders... Kneejerk reaction, or justified? Hard to say, but I do know Samsung set loose the very first update of many. Perhaps it'll shrink the performance delta.

Thinking serious kneejerk borderlining on freakout, but I'll know tomorrow night. Coming from a Pixel 3 so I have a good standard to judge performance from.

What we've been shown won't necessarily translate to "real" usage. The iPhone XS blows just about everything out of the water. Despite that, certain Android phones match it in silly speed tests.
The average consumer uses social media, YouTube, navigation, browser, and streams music/movies. Considering how well these run on budget phones I'm certain the 9820 will meet - if not exceed the expectations of buyers. Now... the area everyone wants to know about is efficiency. Will the SD or Exy take the crown this year?
Samsung has proven it knows what it's doing with exynos in years past. If there does happen to be an issue, I'm certain they can issue a fix for their in-house built processor.
Isn't this just the same old fundamental issue Anandtech much talked about with the Exynos S9 last year? At least its not looking as bad as last year's SOC.
Exynos fares better here (compared to other reviews).

I can't post it because I'm new but Look at this one "Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus vs iPhone XS Max - Speed Test!" by XEETECHCARE, how can such "slow" chip defeat the XS Max most of the time? If Exynos is so crappy why does it still beat it?
Still no videos about the SD version against the iPhone, in theory it should beat it even harder, but I started to think that the power settings they use on the Exynos are more conservative, at least I hope that's the case.

That is very impressive. Usually iphones are extremely hard to beat. It's good to see that Samsung is finally learning to remove bloatware and create much lighter software.

I think mostly the speed might come from UFS3.0. Soon someone will put snap vs exynos version next to each other, test it out and see which one is better so we will get a full picture. I don't play on my phone so day to day tasks and smoothness are the most important for me... Oh and battery life

The S10 phones have UFS 2.1, the first phone with UFS 3.0 will be the Galaxy Fold
That xs max vs s10 video, scrolling was pretty choppy on the right phone.
The exynos model is alot better for battery life than the s9. As mentioned above the exynos model will usually run smoother and have better battery life.
Just got my S10e G970F setup and updated to the new patch with Feb security. This thing flies. Repeat.. no performance issues in casual use and I'm not sure under what conditions there would be issues. I'm sure Pubg runs just fine. Feels a noticable step faster than my Pixel 3, which is exactly what I was expecting. Full day battery test tomorrow..
Benchmarks are nothing.
(And really liking this phone so far)

Note20 Hype

Who's already thinking about upgrading their phone, according to the current informations we have about the future Note? And which phone do you want to replace it with?
I'll start: I'm a big fan of the Note series since the first one (I don't use the Spen that much, but I find the overall design and specs to be quite nice, I prefer it over the S series). I usually skip one iteration because I find on one year they add features, and the next year they fix some of the previous year's mistakes. I even had the Note7... not for long So now, even it it still rocks, I'm thinking about replacing my Note9 with a Note20, for the cameras, the display, and all that stuff. Yes I'm totally into the consumer's profile, paying the full bill for a "minor" upgrade, but I enjoy it
What about you guys?
I'm hyped!
Note 10+ here, but I got the upgrade plan or whatever through Samsung with every intention of getting this year's model.
My biggest excitement? 120Hz screen and the new colors. Improved camera as well. I'm hopeful the battery life will remain similar despite the increase in refresh rate.
I'm actually trying to find out reasons to NOT get the Note 20 Ultra and I'm not finding many so far which is a good thing.
that camera bump is MASSIVE.

Big bump, but the array looks way better than the S20 Ultra.
Oh Im getting it for sure, the new copper color.
Will be keeping my note 10 plus though and still even use my copper note 9 once in awhile lol.
On an S8 and have been putting off a new phone because every time I get hyped I read about what the NEXT one is going to have, most recently skipped the S20 because the 120hz doesn't work on the highest resolution, but I think the Note 20 Ultra will finally be what I drop money on. As long as I don't hear rumors of the S21 folding my laundry...
Sent from my SM-G950U using XDA Labs
I really want to get this phone. But I gotta say I'm a little disappointed with the news being reported today that Samsung is sticking with the Exynos 990 (note the rumored Exynos 992) again for international models, while the US, Japan, China, etc get the Snapdragon 865+. There was already about a 20% difference in power between the Exynos 990 and the regular Snapdragon 865 with the S20 models, now that gap will likely be larger.
Don't get me wrong, I think I will still get the Note 20 Ultra as I'm a huge fan of the Note series and I don't think I can wait another year to upgrade from my Note 8. I just wish I wasn't going to get an inferior processor for the same high price as others are paying for the Snapdragon variant.
I'd be interested to hear what others here think about this.

The rumor also suggests a thin possibility of a "SD865+ in all markets".
If 990 continues, it will definitely be NOT my Note lol.

I love the copper and also the alleged green color (the rendering). Seems like a lot of options for colors in the rumors... It'll be interesting.

Likely to keep happening as people push for better cameras.
I use a case, so it won't bother me much at all.
I also hope there will be some sort of pre-purchase offer, for example a refund if you send your old device back maybe, like they did for the Note9.

I hope so too! Have been away from Samsung for a while, I think this will be my first entry back into the ecosystem.

the ONLY reason whoould be that Samsung will again charge us the same money for Exynos chipset eventhough South Korea, China, US and Canada will get Snapdragon 865+ which would be with 30% more powerful and more power efficient.
This means approx. 3hrs SoT more for the Snapdragon 865+ ..
And Samsung it makes it even more difficult if we will buy Snapdragon 865+ note 20 Ultra from US or somewhere else, because in EU they are not supporting warranty for the Snapdragon devices..and they neither do service where customer pays money because they don;t have the spare parts..which is awful..

I feel the same. But I'm also quite conflicted on this for another reason.
Snapdragon phones are locked down, usually they can’t be rooted, and users can’t flash custom recoveries/ROMs.
There are of course exceptions to this but the Exynos variants are definitely better for development purposes.
Now for the first 2 years that probably won't bother me as the stock software would be fine. But once Samsung no longer provides OS updates it's really nice to be able to run custom ROMs.
If only we could get an Exynos device with comparable performance to Snapdragon.

Exynos 992 on 6nm or 5nm with arm x78 architecture is the best soution as of now for Note 20 Utra
If Samsung does a really strong trade in offer (I have a Note 9) to get the price reasonable, and ideally a throw in offer like the new ear buds, I'm in. Multiple Note owner (had the Note 4, 7 and 9) and really looking forward to a camera with a real zoom and better battery life. Looks like a winner!
Note 20 Ultra Colors
Does anyone have a link or list of what the Note 20 Ultra colors will actually be? Thanks in advance.

I read somewhere the 3 colors for the Ultra will be that new copper color, then black and white.
One with Exynos 990 & the other one with SD865+, Samsung will STILL find them to be equally performing..
And a lot will believe it too.
I went from a Note 10+ to a Oppo Find X2 Pro instead of waiting for the Note 20 series, simply for the fact that every leak was pointing to European users being stuck with a Exynos 990 & I don't regret my decision at all, Samsung themselves are so blind they that continue to argue that the Exynos 990 is on the same level as the Snapdragon 865/+, it's ridiculous and from a consumer point of view, unacceptable, we're paying the same premium price but for a worse equipped device.
Many argue that it's only noticeable in benchmarks or on paper etc. But it isn't, it affects camera performance, camera quality, gaming performance, thermal performance, app fluidity, all the important parts of a smartphone experience, Snapdragon is far far ahead.
Sorry for the rant but it's just frustrating, hopefully one day Samsung will listen, in the meantime I'll enjoy my Snapdragon equipped Oppo :good:

Question Support for this device?

Since the production for 780g has stopped, that means hardly anyone will make a custom roms or stuff like that, but my question is, does that means that offical updates from Xiaomi for MIUI will also stop or they'll be rarer in compare to other devices?
I wonder, will we get normal updates or they'll be rarer cuz of rarity of this cpu?
For custom you can use GSI ROMs..for the rest only Xiaomi knows, but maybe less update
I'm very disappointed, I would never buy this phone if I new this model would be abandoned. This news was launched 2 days after I bought it :-(
Should be worried? I generally don't think it will be " abandonded" Xiaomi like xiaomi, we'll get updates for sure, burt idk how often.
I also think that the production of 780g might continue in the near future? Thoguths, gentlemen?
I bet they will be a few roms for this phone (I'm hoping for dotos or cherishos )

MI 11 lite 5g appear on Android 12 update list. So probably we receive A12 and 1-2 patches and than stopped. Anyway Xiaomi is known for short support for his phones.
Im hoping that both versions get the same support. The only difference being the SOC(?) with everything else being exact.

Tehnically, yeah, the diffrence in perfomance is so tiny.
Unlikely it changes anything. I'm 100% sure support for 5G ends when support for 5G NE ends. Maybe less often security updates, that's it. Support for both phones will be dropped with MIUI 14 or 15. Android 12 guaranteed, Android 13 possible.
Hard to believe that the 6nm 778G is more power efficient than a 5nm 780G. But what do I know?

Maybe it's just the issue of system optimization
It would be nice to have a battery that lasted longer for sure, but I will not gamble getting a NE and realising it's a Tianma display instead of the Huaxing I have now.

This website base power efficiency on guesses I'm afraid. No real tests. Rest is based on pure benchmark numbers. But there is no benchmark for power efficiency. They thought 5 nm means efficient but fact is our phone likes to run hot.

Okay then, looks like you are right then. How is that possible that Xioami kills performance of their phones with OS is just beyond me. But still they are not bad in terms of efficiency, many Xiaomi phones leading battery charts. So I assume other companies are even worse. Wish to try custom ROM but for safety reasons I don't want to.
