audio chip exynox version - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Does anybody knows the audio chip of the international version?

you will have to wait some time before we figure this out

As long as I read this,
It seems like built-in SoC. 32bit/384kHz

But...also the specs are talking about 4k/120fps....I am wondering if we get also an sound amplifier, something similar to LG Vxx series....?

If they're saying sounds 1.4 x louder on the plus i would reckon so right?
Fingers crossed

Waiting for more info on this as well. Thinking of retiring my v20 and getting this instead.

[email protected] was disabled in the Exynos chip in order to be in the same specs as Snapdragon users, because Snapdragon is limited currently to [email protected]

I have been in different stores trying the speakers, and I have to say they sound nice pretty nice and loud. I never buy phones with no dual speaker configuration, and for the first time Samsung is doing this, I have to say I'm pretty impressed. About the headphone jack, I wouldn't be able to say, but I think most of the phones are in the same level except for LG V line.

I think many of us would like that, but they didn't say anything about a special DAC, so I doubt they implemented something really special for audio.

Sigh. Wish they did. I love the v20 but the lack of updates on LGs part is just pitiful. Still on 7.0 with Dec security patch. Nice camera, Excellent audio output through the jack [what i care about].
Might as well buy a dedicated dac and the s9.
Edit: What would be a good DAC to buy?

Honestly, I don't care that much about if they use a specialized DAC or nor as long as it sounds decent. I was more worried about the speakers, but they sound really nice.
Usually I'm not much time with headphones, maybe 1-2 times per month, but everyday I see videos and I appreciate a lot the stereo speakers, which are really good.

Looks good! But slightly beyond what i can buy especially after buying the s9+ :silly:
How does this look?

It's around 149 bucks on amazon.

So apparantly it's running the latest cirrus logic we will have to wait a bit for root to tell exactly which one. Sound is great through high end headphones, rich sound louder than the s8

High impedance?
I have the Amiron and DT 770 80 ohm and the volume level in the S8 is too low.
If S9 is louder I'm seriously considering a switch

Guess will have to wait for Dolby to be ported to the S8 before rooting.

Sounds quite good with the sound personalisation (test tones) all with "yes" - using AK T8ie mkII it sounds pretty credible.
Dolby Atmos is a major turn-off to me though
It does sound different to the Note 8 (both international versions), more authorative - so, definitely feels like an upgrade.

The audio chip in the S9+ is the same as in the S8 series.
Cirrus Logic CS47L93 Audio Codec.

[Q] Fluctuating/Auto volume issue

Since there's no Q&A forum for this phone (yet), I'll try in here.
I've noticed this morning, when listening to my music through my earphones, that the volume tends to subtly fluctuate - perhaps slightly reducing the volume on the louder parts of songs.
I don't like this (it's not even at max volume either) - is there a way to stop it? I've looked in the music player's settings and also the sound settings for the phone itself, but no luck.
This is my first Samsung Andrdoid so if I'm missing something common to these, feel free to hit me with the noob stick
You've got the SGS II already?
You are probably in the wrong forum, mate.
Nope, he is not.
Some lucky dawgs got it through P4U.
I got it yesterday afternoon from Phones4U, although I think I've sorted this problem out now. I think it was related to the bass enhancement setting, because I disabled that and it's not doing it anymore (or it's no longer noticeable).

Big question how do you find the sound quality what headphones are you using? Thanks
Swyped from my Desire HD using XDA App
I'm using Soundmagic PL30's and the sound is great, although I did notice a bit of crappines when I had the bass enhancement on and turned it right up. Now I have it on Auto/Rock EQ with no effects - perfect for my needs.
I've yet to test the phone's speaker.
I don't have the phone and only played with android briefly before, but in theory, what you are describing is known as "normalizing", where the device tries to make the songs sound as even as possible. This results in capped louder parts and sometimes increased quieter parts. Is there any option like this in the equalizer?
May I say... Congratulation and I HATE YOU... J.K...
Post up some more details of what you DISLIKE of it so far

Actually PL30 are slightly bass heavy themselves and at best average if sgs2 sound is even somewhat like sgs. If u really want something better without breaking bank get brainwavz M1 or nuforce ne6 if you prefer boomier bass. This phone does deserve more than PL30.
PL30 respond very badly to presets on SGS1 as well.
Magically posted from thin air!
Aw, I only bought these a couple of weeks ago!
I'll bear your recommendations in mind though, thanks.
Actually, the earphones that came with it look better (not the awful standard things you usually get). I probably won't open them though.
Edit: no normalization option, Deathangel. It sounds ok now anyway

Really? The Yamaha DAC that was included can actually best the Wolfson 8994? I've been torn between the SGSII and the Sensation for quite a while now. This tips the scales in the GSII's favor.
P.S.- How does it compare to an SGS with the Supercurio Voodoo mod?
It's very close mate. I haven't done a proper comparison between them but I get a full range from Bass, mid and treble using PowerAMP to listen to music with the SGS II. I'd say it maybe slightly better than the SGS with Voodoo if I had to chose.

This seems the best thread to ask...
I'm looking for the best earbuds I can get for £30 or less (preferably less of course) for the highest quality listening. I'm hoping to use the SGSII in place of my iTouch since it can play FLAC natively!
Any help/suggestions is greatly appreciated!

Best sounding Android phone (DAC etc)?

It's a bit of an OT, but related to XDA, because so far, it seems the best sound comes from a Galaxy S with custom kernel for voodoo due to the Wolfson DAC inside. Someone then said, all Tegra Chipsets come with a Wolfson (?) but all info I could find was related to a Wolfson Power Management Chip, not a DAC. Also, I wonder what kind of output impendace matching phones have, as I got some slightly difficult to drive in-ears, requiring a very low OI.
Since there are competent people here dealing with specific hardware and probably able to give more than a "My phone sounds whoopey!" answer, I thought I'd ask here ... also with the idea of a pointer to a possible custom rom?

I don't think there's better than the phones with the Wolfson DACs on the market. I know there's stuff like the HTC Rezound being touted as a music phone but we both know this doesn't really target real music amateurs rather than people wanting some boom boom (yeah, Beats buds...). Doesn't mean it doesn't have good stuff in it though.

Right ... I'm not talking about those HTC Boomphones for schoolyard kids. The Galaxy S already had it fairly right with the Wolfson DAC ... for whatever reason, they didn't use its amping capability, which all sounds massively better than whatever other amp is in there ... bizarre. Why put in great hardware and then not use it. Later it sadly vanished for the known crappy Yamaha chip.....
Maybe if enough people scream, HTC will hear us ... after all, they NEED reasons people would have to buy a new phone. There's one. Go produce it, HTC.

I don't know, as I said I don't think there's any better phone for music than those with Wolfson DACs currently on the market. *shrugs*
Well I followed that idea ... and won an auction for an LG Optimus 2x yesterday ... I'll see next week, how the Wolfson in there behaves. if I understood right, in many cases, you just have to root the phone and the voodoo app will insmod the wolfson kernel modules? That'd be a bit easier for a start than to use a cusom mod.

Beats Audio

Do installation of beats audio on rooted phone makes it really work? Mean does it improves the sound quality like the original beats audio phones?
yes.but u need a beatz headset.it also works with other headsets.but not that effective.
Yea
The result is different with different device. This app really have system files of beats , i open and extract this archive and found folder asset where system files like bin , etc , lib.. and then i copy to my mobile ,sound fells good. It have just only little bit clarity and sound was abit louder with my Samsung Stock Headset
It will be great to buy the Beats Headset

Well I've tried it on many of my Droids and it does seem to bring about a change especially in bass and treble terms . The difference is not too noticeable with oem headsets or so it feels to me but on others , a few premium ones I've tried it is noticeable indeed

It doesn't make such a big difference unless used with high end headphones where it does slightly improve the base but most of the time you won't notice the difference.

audio frequency fix? nokia lumia 800

the audio frequency is shocking. no bass at all. tried with monster puritys, beats solo HD, sennheiser cx 150/200/300-II
no bass on any headphones.
is this the phone its self or a hardware issue?
any fixes out there?

well... the lumia's sound SUX.. anyway, I noticed that the new firmware in 7.8 makes it even worse and the max volume is 50% lower... so I downgraded it back to 7.5 (download the firmware over navifirm, and then put the files to nokia caresuite folder and flashed it with caresuite... just google how to) and then used seveneighter app (here on xda.. the force update thread) to update the software to 7.8 as this method leaves the firmware as it is and just update the OS and the sound is now acceptable... still **** compared to iPhones, but usable.
If you're on 7.5... well... that's how it is.. probably hardware issue as they patched it several times and it is still pure ****, but what I don't understand how can they fail it even more with the new firmware
Really dissapointing quality from nokia... I was used to top notch music performance on their hardware.. and they even promote the lumia range as some kind of music super phones and they all suck at audio.. yes even the 920 has audio quality issues -.-
I don't know exactly what range you mean by "bass", apparently anywhere below mid is the least despicable range for this phone, obviously it's not good but not as bad mid-high which is pretty much unbearable even for the most random listener IMHO.

Audio is far inferior to V20

Tested back to back with my wife's V20 using the included AKG earbuds using a high fidelity flac file of the Allman Brothers song Old Friend, which is two acoustic guitars with strong vocals. Night and day, there was far more detail and less hiss using the V20. Tested also with hih quality flac files of Metallica and Andrea Bocelli. Same. Far more detail.
Used Poweramp Alpha with high fidelity output enabled. Nothing scientific, just back to hack.
I mostly like the Note 8 otherwise, but for sound quality alone I think I'll return for the V30 when it comes out. Haven't Used the S Pen hardly at all, which surprised me. For me, audio quality is important.
Just one man''s opinion.

So what was your purpose of buying a Note then if you had no intention of using the pen? Seems you bought it for all the wrong reasons and decided to post here to get others to sway away from the Note 8.
Just information others might find useful sir. Not trying to sway anyone in any direction.
You are comparing a phone that was made for quality audio to a phone that wasn't.
Now, LG V20 stylus is inferior compared to the Notes.
"audio quality is important"... what the Note 8 could do was known before you ordered it. Sorry but all one had to do is search and then look at the history of Galaxy phones in regards to sound. For me the word 'NOTE" says it all. Now.. again for ME... MUSIC? Yeah.. not going with any phone
After my Note 7 Fiasco I got the LG v20. The sound was good on it. But I don't listen to anything on my phones anyway. The phone it's self was ok at best. The LG v30 will be the same. Lg is incapable of making a phone with the build quality like the Note. I can tell by looking at the v30 that it is going to feel cheap.

Opinions are always welcome but your opinion is of the "duh really" variety. If you want the best sound get a V10, V20, or V30 when it arrives. For that matter I'll trade you my U11 straight up, if music is that important to you.
Enjoy your Note8.

When I first receive my Note 8. I was despised with how it sounds.
I think you want to make your own adapt sound setting first. only then it sounds good. really good.
Listen with Tidal and Neuron. boy. it sounds so good!!
Adapt sound on note 8 is much more better than adapt sound on my last note 3
Yeah amhave to agree with everyone else. If audio is important, LG V10/30 is for you.
Comparing quad dacs to what Samsung offers is not an even match.
If audio is important, i would advise you to get a separate audio device. I have note 8 as my daily driver for work, personal and games. I own a DP-CM1X for audio with 2.5mm balanced cable to my im03.

Note 8 is much better than the Note FE but no way as good as the V20 when you use 24 bit music (Lossless). But I believe most consumers use streaming services which use high but rate MP3s so most so consumers would be happy with the Note 8. I am not which is why I use a dedicated Sony NW ZX300 DAP.
