Experiments with 9.0 build - G8342 Only - Sony Xperia XZ1 Guides, News, & Discussion

I built 9.0 a couple days ago just because science and all that stuff. Observations.
The version of AOSP I built is: android-9.0.0_r6 :: G8342 Only
I built a regular version then I built another version with opengapps micro package built-in.
What I've noticed so far: Dual SIMs issue just like my other 8.0 build, unfortunately again. Only 1 sim is available.
Don't forget your OEM file.
Software binaries for AOSP Oreo (Android 8.1) – Kernel 4.9 – Yoshino
Software binaries for AOSP Oreo (Android 8.1) – Kernel 4.4 – Yoshino
I can make phone calls with sim1 just fine. Camera works but @ 17MP, obviously AOSP builds so no green images(Open Devices).
I'll post some images now.

I didn't test much to be truthful. Just camera, web browsing, making a call. Never tested GPS, or any other things.
I might, might, have some time today to go extensive.

That is true. I remember flashing and booting all 3 OEM files, if it doesn't boot on your end just go back to fastboot and flash the other.
But as stated, be aware that it's all beta even though the device was actually usable. Maybe 9.0(Pie) is closer to final by now but there are bugs.
G8342 Only

Not going in the G8341? Tested?

Right now it's just for the g8342 as I test it out. I might build a g8341 later.

I'll try posting a new clean build this afternoon.

Alright. I've built a new version from scratch, perhaps this one will work better since I did not make clean last time after G8342 build.

thx I flashed this rom and boot successfully!
I tried oem 9.0 beta first, stuck on bootloop than I flashed 8.1 stable oem
Edit: i found issue:battery persentage shows stuck at 20% i confused slow charge first and i restore stock rom, it shows 100%

Good news, they found a fix for the bootloop issue with oem 9 on G8341. We'll get a fix next vendor.

Now I'm not even sure anymore that all oem booted. I'll try again tonight, my shell timeline shows all oems were flashed.

UPDATE: I tried to log it on my desktop and it doesn't work. ADB doesn't detect it. Hope that you can found the issue and solve it, and sorry for can't bring you a log.
Keep the good job anyways

can you be more specific about the problem?
I retested it. As soon as the initial boot is finished, I turned off the automatic brightness. Now it is working fine for around 10 minutes. Could someone double check? I am on XT1521

Immediately after the first boot and setup windows it worked flawlessly for some moment. Then onwards whenever the screen in unlocked, it went to dark without any display. I could hear the device connecting tone in PC, however storage is not getting detected. I rebooted into recovery and did a factory reset. When the booting is completed, I opened the settings and disabled the automatic brightness feature. Now I turned it on but could not find any issue thereafter. I am not sure if this is the issue. I am just downloading the GAPPS and once it is done, need to flash again. Will update on the progress.

Hello all,
I tried to play a bit with AOSP and thank to phhusson experiments with Treble I managed to have an AOSP 9.0 Pie ROM for our Moto G6, of course this is a WIP, I still have a lot of stuff to work on but it's a good starting point!
Since I use my Moto G6 also for my work I can't backup/format/flash my device every day, would be very very nice if anyone would like to help me to buy a new one dedicated to the development.
The goal is 250CHF (see here: https://goo.gl/mWeKFz)

Oh okay. Actually I don't have the device. I'll probably get it next week, and as an android enthusiast, I couldn't stand Lenovo pushing updates late to the Moto G6 so I got excited when a Custom kernel and now your GSI showed up... Thanks for your work again.
@secuflag
I was successfully able to root phh's AOSP GSI.
If this ROM is based on that, root might most likely work on this one as well.
I'm just waiting to be able to flash gapps, that's the only thing stopping me from moving to 9.0
I just tested root access, it works :good:
Anyone tested this with the moto g 6 play?
I have one more question. Is this a 32bit or 64bit firmware? I'm really interested in using the GCam port with this device.

you can flash Gapps just fine, back when treble roms didnt come with android go gapps baked in, you would have to boot the phone up once, reboot into recovery, install gapps from unencrypted sd card or internal memory if you're using the encryption disabler zip, and then wipe/reboot again.

Thank you for this awesome rom! Running pretty smooth so far. Almost flawless! Just a couple of issues for me... No pen support, kill app back button in developer options is not working, no always on clock display on lock screen... Some of the good stuff... WiFi calling works! No Chinese crap! Yay! Battery life indicator for Bluetooth is back! push notifications work great!
Awesome rom using it now thanks
Thank you for your hard work and this awesome ROM.
The only issue I have so far is the inability to make calls. Whenever i attempt to make a call the phone just hangs up.
In some cases I cannot receive phone calls like the ones from banking apps to verify the users identity.
Probably something went wrong in the installation process.
I would like to know if anyone is facing the same issue before attempting to do a full reset.
Cheers.
Got it working. Very very pleased to have rr on mate 20x. I installed magisk using open Kirin website instructions. Where it says 'fastboot flash ramdisk patched_boot.img' .... I flashed to ramdisk_recovery, and have to do a button bashing combination when phone boots to get root. If I don't hold buttons, when phone boots, it gets stuck on home screen with a message displaying.
Did I flash patched image to the correct partition?
Thanks again.

Calls working great for me. Make sure when you reinstall you do the recovery partition correctly or you will have errors
First thanks for getting this rom released for our phone!!
Regardless what I have Preferred SIM for Calls set to, the prompt for what SIM to use when making a call always pops up. I like to have it set to my SIM1. The settings for Preferred SIM for Mobile data and SMS messages does work but they don't have an Ask every time option. Not a deal breaker but would be nice if it worked properly.
Is there any legit alternative to huawei's password vault that will work on this ROM? I want the phone to remember my password for apps that requires logging in so it's easier.

Never mind, I figured it all out. Everything is working perfectly.
Will OTA work when there's an update? When I go to Settings>System>Advanced>Updater, first it states Last checked: December 31, 1969 (4:00 PM) and tap refresh I get The update check failed message at the bottom of the screen.

Haha yea , probably imma wait for 8 cores to boot up
So from what I've read, this is not Booting on the Non-BLOD 6P's. Anyone who can Contradict this?
Using this in my BLOD nexus. At first the battery drain was bad. like I am losing like 1% per 3 minutes. Weirdly enough after enabling the "dot notifications" in crDroid settings(i forgot where it is sorry, it is just somewhere in that setting), the battery drain stopped and the battery life is comparable to the stock android <3. However the playstore cannot download apps anymore lol.
Good thing fdroid and amazon appstore works. This is fine for now until I need more apps(maybe installing huawei app gallery)
I saw from one of the threads

I am curious if elemental x kernel (or any kernel that does the above) works on android 10?

I don't think it would work bit if you try make sure you back up.
What is FBE for?? I have all cores working, do i have to flash another TWRP?
Does camera, gps and lockscreen issues and reboot issues work and are fixed?
Latest build is stuck in reboot loop, does not even get past google logo...
Hi, thank you for your effort.
Is this ROM stable as a daily driver? What are some known bugs?
When can we expect the next update?

Oh boy, another custom ROM!
Make sure to update your device to the latest version of OxygenOS 12 (C.23) BEFORE installing this ROM. Mismatched firmware can cause weird issues.
How do I install this?
Installation is more or less the same as LineageOS. In short, if you're coming from stock:
- Update to the latest version of OxygenOS
- Unlock your bootloader
- Flash the dtbo, vendor_boot, and boot files in fastboot
- Reboot to recovery, wipe data, reboot to recovery again
- Sideload the copy-partitions zip
- Sideload the PixelExperience zip
- Reboot & enjoy
Detailed instructions
Does this work on the T-Mobile/Metro variants?
Yes. Keep in mind that the method to unlock the bootloader on carrier vatiants is different than on the unlocked variant. Once you unlock the bootloader, the rest of the installation procedure is the same.
Is this ROM stable enough for daily use?
I think it is. Check the known issues section to know what's not working before you install.
Does this ROM pass SafetyNet/Play Integrity out of the box?
Yes. Note that installing mods, such as Magisk, may trip SafetyNet/Play Integrity.
Where's PixelExperience Plus?
I didn't feel like building it, sorry.
A note about building PixelExperience:
If you want to build PE for this device, you'll need to make a few modifications:
You'll need the kernel build tools from AOSP. Add
XML:
<project path="prebuilts/kernel-build-tools" name="kernel/prebuilts/build-tools" clone-depth="1" remote="aosp" revision="refs/tags/android-13.0.0_r0.60" />
to your local manifest.
Use my hardware/oplus fork.
Get the proprietary files from TheMuppets.

@lzgmc - thanks a lot for this.
PixelExperience has been my favorite ROM and I have been looking for this for my N200(s) for a while.
Do you think you would be able to provide regular updates for the ROM?
I don't see any update option in the System settings.
Are updates not supported?
The cell network is extremely flaky - going in and out every 2 seconds.
I am using an xfinity mobile (verizon mvno) sim, in case that matters.

There's no updater app in unofficial builds. You're gonna have to wait for official builds

What firmware are you flashing from?
Thanks a lot for the support..
I'm using the latest firmware from the zip file linked here -
https://www.reddit.com/r/LineageOS/comments/136kkn8
@lzgmc - could you please recommend a device firmware that would go well with this rom?
Currently, I am using DE2117_11_C.16 and the combination is completely unusable. Thankfully, this is not my primary phone so I could wait for this to get fixed.
Unlocked (DE2117_11_C.16)
Full C.16 update
https://android.googleapis.com/packages/ota-api/package/6be3f133f8fb9bbcc30d787679bd7b5da5e30995.zip
There was a problem with my N200 and it got fixed after a device reset. Sorry for the false alarm.
This ROM is quite stellar

Would you mind pointing me to the C23 firmware that I could download? I am seeing a lot of references to it but I couldn't find any download link to the firmware for N200.
Thanks

Sadly, the only way to get this firmware version (at least for now) is by taking OTA while running stock.
