Question about headphones volume level on latest Pie stable rom - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

I'm currently on MIUI 10 10.0.6.0 and I have my phone region set to United Kingdom but the volume in headphones is 20% lower then if the phones region is set to India
Does anyone know if this issue has been fixed?

Is the same with Italy... too low

First off, thanks for replying
This wasn't an issue on the last MIUI 9 stable ROM but for some reason was introduced on MIUI 10 stable ROM. I just don't get why it's lower for us but not for people who have their phone region set to India. I haven't tried to set my region to any other region apart from my own (United Kingdom) and India
I brought a pair of 1More Triple Driver In-Ear Headphones to go with my phone and was very happy before MIUI 10

I get the feeling no one knows lol

Don't know if this is the reason, but a few years ago the EU set sound level limits on personal music players:
https://blog.mediamusicnow.co.uk/2015/03/23/eu-commission-control-volume-mp3-players-ipods-other-players/
It may be different again now but it would explain things.
If the volume is louder when set to the India phone region it would tend to point to the limitation being in software. I'm sure I've heard of apps that can give you greater than 100% sound level.

Thank you for replying. I would think that was the case if this also happened while running MIUI 9 but it didn't so I can't see that it is.
I do use PowerAMP to listen to music so I guess I'll just have to increase the volume that way but doing so wouldn't that distorts the audio?

I suppose it would depend upon how much you increased it by; you could take the level up to at least of the Indian phone region level. If you can't hear any noticeable distortion at the sound level you feel comfortable with then it's not going to do any harm to anything.

True but it's only a quick fix for audio/MP3 only. Doesn't fix the fact that it also affects audio for videos also.
Please set your region to India and play some music and videos then change it to United Kingdom and play the same music and video again and you can hear how quieter it is

There do seem to be Android apps in the Play Store that claim to increase volume for media, ringtones, etc. I don't know how well they work but it may be worthwhile investigating.

Yeah looks like I'm going to as I just updated to the latest stable pie ROM and the problem is now worse than what it is.
If anyone is reading this I recommended you stay well away from the Stable Pie ROM at all costs

New firmware update arriving soon, 8107.12070
The following is a compilation of all known fixes & improvements in 12070:
• Battery drain issue has been fixed
• Lack of audio Bass when listening through headsets has been addressed
• Auto-white balance issue with the camera has been fixed
• Hardware buttons backlights are now always illuminated at all available screen brightness levels
• Diagnostics app has been updated to prevent users from receiving misleading technical readouts about their device
So why Nokia continued to say there is no battery bug, I do not know, if they claim that there's a new battery drain issue that has been fixed?
And why do I get the feeling that they've fiddled with the diagnostics to give you the readings you want to see?
Sigh, no tethering still.
Nice. Battery fix, just what I need to make me love my phone again.
Nice to see the lack of bass is going to be fixed! Thats my only gripe with my phone.
You can load the firmware 1270 with Nokia Care Suite.

Music sounds a lot better than before
You can simply try vf nz.
I downloaded the 1600.2487.8107.12070 firmware and compared it to another phone I have running the older firmware. Whitebalance (picture quality) is much better, there is more bass in the music (same volume) and the battery drain seems to be cut in 1/2 at idle (as shown by the diagnostic tool).

i squezed 4.5 days (on edge) out of the battery and i use purity monster in-ear earphones and listen to trance, the highs and lows are crystal clear, like Nokia always promisses. i can't complain much about the bass but i'm waiting desperatly to check out the latest firmware.
I can compare L800 to iP4S and N9. MS should work harder to improve battery life.

OnePlus X Euro version has "EU sound volume cap" applied?

Hi - ...I like to play my music loud. Sadly the EU don't want me to do this, and have imposed a volume cap (headphones) on all mobile phones (I didn't know this at first and spent *a year* trying to find the loudest/best phone for music before finding out that that quest was hopeless).
Does anyone know if the euro version of the oneplus X has this applied or not? ...in orther words does the Chinese variant go louder (headphones)?
I own a OPO that I bought via the OnePlus site (ie a european model) - and i don't think that had the cap applied - though it might have done.
thanks all-
Oli.
It's for your own good. Why do you want to ruin your hearing? Might want to buy some decent noise cancelling earphones instead of just ramping up the volume.

I think you're right because any volume or bass booster I use the result of the loudspeaker remains the same but it increases a bit in the headphones.

Products that come here are bound to European rules and regulations, so of course the cap is there.
Most products that we use in EU are made in China and have that cap, so the OnePlus X is no exception to the rule.
This in not about volume but output power. for example - if you have earphones like SoundMagic E10 (with i have) - it will be ok with OPX with EU software. But if you want to listen music on some bigger earphones with for example 120Ohm resistance - you will have problem because it will not be enough to power up those bigger earphones.
For DARIF i have some useful tip: buy some MICRO USB OTG cable and DAC that is called Dragonfly that is made by Audioquest - it will boost up not only power but also quality of sound. With this device i strongly recommend that use it with USB AUDIO PLAYER program.

I found out that ONLY stock roms uses the best DAC.

Hi, all audio enthusiasts!
So recently I purchased a pair of Sennheiser IE80. These IEMs are known to be VERY sensitive and thus you need a really good DAC unless you want background noise in your music.
When I first plugged these IEMs into my phone I was hugely disappointed, the sound was pretty good I guess but there was this constant annoying background noise whenever audio was playing. This was noticeable even when listening to high tempo EDM music with a very low dynamic range, and when I tried some acoustic music with a higher dynamic range the background hiss completely ruined the music experience for me.
Disappointed as I was I decided to ditch LOS and get back to stock and try the audio there since I've always poor battery life on ALL nougat Roms anyway I decided to try the latest Stock Marshmallow build (B11).
The standard HiFi option sounded very poor, I think even worse than LOS but I'm not completely sure as A/B testing is practically impossible. When I turned on the Super Hifi option, however, ALL background hiss had vanished and the sound just got to another level!!! This could only mean two things; either LOS based Roms have some very funky audio processing or (whats most likely) Only stock builds use the best DAC which is presumably the AKM 4491. I haven't tried Nougat but I suspect that the audio is more or less the same ass on Marshmallow.
TL-DR: Only stock build uses the best DAC (AKM 4491).
Where to turn on the Super Hifi option?
It is using the AK dac without genuine drivers. It is not going to sound great the way it is being forced to work. If drivers could be found then maybe it would be like stock.

Yeah this could be accurate. Anyway LOS has hiss, Stock with Super setting doesn't.
Has anyone tried this fix for LOS rom? Or the latest nightly if the patch is merged?

That was merged mid to late April. It is on all of the Los/asop roms now.
I dont know many why many people using wrong DAC number it should be AKM4490 or 4961

Is it worth rooting this phone?

Hi guys,
Coming from a Google Pixel XL, I didn't bother rooting it because everything seemed to work right out of the box and being a stock android phone, I didn't feel the need to. Now that I have my v30, there seems to be so many customizable options (Android has come a long way with their software over the last few years!), which in the past few years would have needed root or custom rom to access.
My question is, since there are ports for things like the Google Camera app, substratum themes and other mods that work without root, what are the benefits of rooting this phone?
So far all I can think about is a better ad blocker and installing some speaker mods. Oh and F-droid was useful back in the day for Youtube Downloader - but don't need that since I have Youtube Red.
To me it doesn't seem worth it to void warranty for such small benefits, I could be wrong though, and I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on other benefits of rooting/custom rom!
I myself rooted my V30 in order to use Magisk and especially V4A, so if you like good sound then, you maybe should.

Which V30 variant do you have? You seem to be from Australia. Do you have a V30 which can be rooted? Only two actual V30 can be rooted (European H930, North American open market US998); three if you're including the European "V30+" (H930G).
Yes, software has been optimized more since the early days of Android. Maybe there's less stuff that needs to be "fixed" -- and with Nova launcher/custom icon packs, etc, there's a lot that can be done without rooting. Also, Blokada for instance, is a good free ad blocker.
But TWRP custom recovery, Titanium Backup still give you power you don't have without root.
Some of the V30 custom ROMs do "fix" (or improve) the quad DAC, as well as some standalone audio mods (which require root). The ROMs may not "require" root, but they at least require unlocked bootloader and TWRP. So, you might as well root and get full benefit.

Well, nothing or possibly quite a lot -- depending on which model you have. @Whiskeyomega discovered some inconsistencies across V30/V30+ models that should not be there. But with root, you can fix it.

So Im testing a few various options tonight with mixer_paths_tavil.xml and I genuinely believe that LG have done goofed.
What I think ive found is the V30 has 2 sound devices (not sure if its 2 DACS) but there is a low power device which seems to be what would be the default sound device for a LG phone (maybe the G6) and there is also the decent ES9218P DAC chip.
What LG has done as made a bad job of the mixer_paths_tavil.xml which includes references a ES9018 which was never put in the phone or any phone AFAIK.
But what I have just noticed is if you are using a set of low impedance headphones . It goes through to the low power sound device chip but keeps the HIFI DAC switch working so the EQ can still work. Unless you make it think you are running a different type of headset -- which it calls "Advanced", which is high impedance -- then it runs to the decent DAC and there are no problems.
I have also noticed in all the mixer_paths_tavil.xml from around the world markets that there are differences in settings which should be the same. Which is what could account for some people saying Low Impedance still runs through the same decent DAC and some people saying it doesnt. Either way mixer_paths_tavil.xml is a maze of old and incorrect information.
So with that in mind. I'd Like to share the results of my work with more always coming.
There is a key to the file names
BQ = Better Quality IE It uses the decent DAC
MV = Move Volume for Low Impedance and/or Aux devices
HIM = Forces Low Impedance into High Impedance mode
LIH = For Low Impedance Headphones
Aux = For Auxiliary devices E.G Car Speakers
Stock = Depends on the Country it came from as to what it does. Could be Better quality might not be.
Please delete the part between mixer_paths_tavil and .xml and put in /system/etc (Requires root)

Oh I had no idea that only a select few could be rooted. Mine is the dual sim variant (H930DS) which looks like it can't.
After reading the responses and doing a little bit more research, it seems to me there's not that many benefits for this phone except pushing the sound quality a little further. For me it's not worth losing warranty for just a few small improvements, so although it is quite saddening that I can't unlock the bootloader for the option to be able to root/custom rom - I think it's ok for this phone as it's already packed full of features and seems to check all the boxes.
Thanks heaps for the replies, I should've done my research to see if I could even root the phone before asking haha!

Depends whom you might ask. Several of us have sound over Bluetooth issues. This has nothing to do with root though.
Do some serious research on this phone before you take the plunge. I'm not trying to hate, but in all honesty, my experience with this phone and its issues / lack of support / slow updates, makes me no longer a fan of LG.

I'm referring to wired sound with the DAC which I find to be fantastic. I have had no issues with the phone so far, but haven't tried Bluetooth for music. I'm also on Oreo.
Well, if you root, you can have Oreo right now.

I thought about rooting it too but decided it's not worth bothering with. There's nothing to improve on the sound so V4a is useless. I don't use any EQ, good headphones don't need it.
All the bloat can be uninstalled and all other annoyances I had could be fixed without root. Like Android resampling 16 bit 44.1 KHz to 48 KHz. Can be bypassed by bit padding all the flacs to 24 bit.
IMO
Back in the day ... absolutely.
These days since you can disable or restrict most apps.... just not that big a deal.

There isn't. I don't think what that dude says is accurate. The HiFi DAC is always on if toggled, it's not dependent on triggering high impedance mode.
I can turn it on with low impedance headphones, I can hear the difference, it's been measured and proven on Head-Fi too.
He probably broke something with the ROM he used then he had to fix.
The only case when forcefully enabling high impedance mode might be useful is when using low impedance inefficient IEMs that require lots of power. I'm not using such things.

Unbalanced, Distorted and very low sound from earphones while playing PUBG

When using earphones in the POCO F1 to play PUBG, the sound is distorted, unbalanced and is way too low even though the sound/audio is set at 100% (In game & In System), Otherwise, the sound output through earphones in every other app is very good. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Any one know a way around? I don't think mine is a defective piece because all other apps provide a very good output.

Even speakers ? sucks. I can hear the sound if the volume is around 80 to 90 % and no sound at all (very minimal, only can hear if speaker kept close to ear) when volume is below 50%.
You guys have this problem too?
Hey, guys! I'm experiencing the same issue with volume and sound quality through headphones when using apps like Soundcloud and TuneIn Radio. And when I pause the music and unpause it, it plays at normal volume and quality for like 1 second, then it gets distorted again. It's odd, because in youtube the sound quality and volume seem fine. I'm using KZ-ATES in-ear headphones and the phone is on the lastest firmware (MIUI 9.6 Global Stable 9.6.18). I've tried tweeking some sound options in the phone settings and searching for some extra audio settings in the Developer Options (didn't find any), but still no change. I've send my feedback to Xiaomi, hoping for a quick fix.
