Incompatible Google AR Core + [EMUI 9] Experience - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

Dear All Mate 10 Users,
I have updated to EMUI 9 (c185) using HiCare app (2 days Back) . I was really looking for google AR core and apps that measure stuff. I am disappointed. Any Solutions? I have never rooted this Mobile and I don't know if rooting is worth it or not (Kindly Guide)
I have gotten Super Slow Motion 940Fps Recording with the update (not sure if EMUI 9 brought it or it was there from before) but I dont like the new interface for camera. I am yet to notice any bad battery backup problem and I'll update on it shortly as well.
I have noticed that my Wi-fi dropped multiple times .. but it seems to have stabled for now (Don't know how, or whether it'll return back...)
Call Quality .. has gone bad, I mean its sometimes good as before or its all static like ... Noticed it few times (Never Happened Before).
Music Application is PATHETIC. Solution for this is needed in my opinion (What do you guys suggest?) I have spotify on my mobile but I am not an avid user, I don't know how I can use Spotify to play my own offline library..

I've emailed Huawei support and the response was disappointing, I've been waiting the Arcore support since they launched the phone, and really hopped they will give us that at same time with P20 line, (since both lines have the exact same hardware aside the extra lens on the pro models), this was the response:
Dear Mr. Mares, receive a warm greeting from the Huawei team.
We understand the importance of receiving all the updates in your Mate 10 so we inform you that the new updates in which we work will be released as soon as possible, this is done gradually to avoid a congestion on the server at the time of the download and that generates an error in the installation, the updates are send by compilation number, regions, stocks and other variants. The arcore update to create 3D objects for the moment dont have a date to be launch in the Mate 10, we are deeply sorry for the inconveniences.
When the update is ready, automatically your device will indicate by means of a notification via HOTA (Huawei Over The Air) which you only have to accept to start the download and installation.

"NOT Daydream ready" (!)

So, neither the Axon 7 or the ZTE VR headset are actually Daydream ready, which is not what I was led to believe!
https://community.zteusa.com/thread/1544
You are correct. The ZTE VR headset is not Daydream ready. At launch of Daydream, only the Google headset will be Daydream ready.
We are currently integrating the Daydream package into Axon 7 now. It requires an Android N upgrade and we need final certification from Google. So please note that Axon 7 is not Daydream-ready the day that Daydream launches from Google. We have said all along that we are working with Google on Daydream, which is true, and that we anticipate that it will receive the certification. We only recently received the final Daydream package so it will take some time to finish the integration on Axon 7 and then get certification. We will make a future announcement when it is Daydream ready.
I think it has the hardware but, as usual, ZTE is lagging way behind with the software.
That official statement answers to all of your concerns.
Not daydream ready? Yet. We knew this before the phone was released, Daydream requires Nougat.
Lagging way behind? They just received the final Daydream package.
A little more patient would be nice.
Damn you for the alarming post title!!!
Of course "Daydream-Ready" doesn't mean "(Al)ready-for-Daydream"! It requires N, logically!
If they're working on obtaining certification for "Ready" instead of "Compatible" then they're confident the phone meets Google's requirements.
Everyone should take a flipping chill pill, dang it!
I dare _anyone_ to come work with the types of BQ and Energy Sistem here in Spain with the same amount of "high standards" they expect, nay, demand from ZTE.
"Not Daydream ready" is a direct quote from the ZTE rep., as you'll see if you read the thread in the link.

I highlighted the important part 4u.
As this article (and many others) shows, ZTE were making many claims in the press that were, let's say, optimistic.
http://www.androidcentral.com/these-are-daydream-ready-phones-so-far
The first Android manufacturer to step up and claim Daydream preparedness did so before Google even had Daydream ready to use, much less the Android 7.0 requirement that followed. Google has yet to officially recognize this as a Daydream ready phone
I do believe we will, some day, get Daydream, but experience suggests it won't be soon.

If this phone wasn't set up for daydream, then why are there so many sensors? Over 30 sensors show up in cpu-z

But did ZTE actually say that, or did these review sites jump to conclusions? On ZTE USA's website, the release day post for the Axon 7 said that Daydream would be coming later: http://blog.zteusa.com/axon-7-officially-on-sale-today/
"It comes equipped to support Daydream, Google’s mobile VR platform, and will be Daydream-ready in the Fall of 2016."

Wow, you people are so freaking impatient. How many phones out there are currently Daydream ready? How many phones outside of Nexus/Pixel has Android N? Stop making click bait topics and put the pitchfork down.
Blows my mind how we are in 2016 and reading comprehension is still not a thing everyone has or can use properly. Nougat Daydream requires Nougat you tool.

I been to a lot of tech forum over the years and ZTE forum def take the cake. I have never seen a bunch of whiny uneducated user group like them.
Every other topics is "Give me X and Y by Z date or I will return the phone, or I will start a class action lawsuit."
I mean it does seem like ZTE wants to get Nougat out asap but we don't even have a release date for their VR set.
Someone mentioned in the other forum the possibility Google had asked ZTE to take down any reference to Daydream. Which makes sense since they're promoting Pixel as the premier phone.
It says that their VR headset, the plastic thing that holds the phone, is NOT daydream compatible.
But if you get the google daydream headset, and after the phone is updated to N and approved by google, then the phone WILL be daydream ready.
So no need to panic, just dont buy the ZTE plastic headset thing and be patient.

Huawei's performance on the security updates?

Honor 5x is reaching its two year mark, I was curious to know what people thought of the Huawei's performance in regards to updates? In a blog post on the Huawei site, Huawei promises to provide feature update for 2 years from release and then provide security update for a unspecified amount of time.
For their feature upgrades, it appears that they upgrade to Mashmallow, but then failed to update to Nougat because Google failed to support their device's upgrade to Nougat (!?).
So how well have Huawei performed compare to their competitors? Based on info on the T-mobile website, it would appear that most phone get quarterly updates for roughly 3 years.

Some variants had no updates for more than 6 months. If I'm not wrong, some even haven't received Marshmallow yet. My L21 (EU) received september patch in november, and here, now it's march of 2017, nothing. One not-working january update (OTA not available, firmware downloaded via FF can't be installed - fails at random percentage, and it's not available as full image) and that's it.
Still, that's much better than my previous experience with LG (phone came with 4.1.2, got only one, buggy update - 4.4.2 a year later, and that was the end of the line, Lollipop came only for Korean variant; bootloader not unlockable, device basically running on hacks (sooo many unnecessary source changes by LG... and device was nearly 3x more the price I paid for L21).
Nougat update wasn't provided because they pushed out Honor 6X on their home-brewed chipset, so I guess 5X is a collateral damage with it's snapdragon requiring Huawei to obtain newer blobs. I guess that's how stuff work.

MirrorShare major bug, Android 7 and Samsung smart TV

Hello, when projecting anything from my phone to Samsung Smart TV, only the upper half of the screen is rendered correctly. The lower half is scrambled/green , pixelated and full of artifacts, no matter the phone is in portrait or landscape.
My Smart TV is flawless with Mate 7, Samsung Tab S 10.5 or Asus Zenfone 6 when using Mirror Share.
Previously on Marshmallow 6.0 MirrorShare worked without problems with my Huawei P9plus .
On my friend's Huawei P9plus, identical with mine and with similar Samsung smart TV, the problem is absolutely the same.
Huawei, please fix this major problem as soon as possible.
My phone : VIE-L09C432B360, unrooted.
Have you found a solution to this? Mine does the same and I can't find a similar topic anywhere else. It's very annoying as worked perfectly before
I hope Huawei read this forum and make things working properly. Don't try to mess your phone/root/reset , at least I don't. If Huawei want to be number three, two or the best brand in smartphone industry they must read and solve customers complaints. Sadly, every brand have some (major) flaws, for me Huawei is the best compromise. Until...
PS: I had a problem with mirror sharing (Huawei Mate 7, veeery slow speed, almost unusable ) in the past but it was resolved after the last update and now it works okay .
Huawei, please do your homework properly to be number one !
Easy come, easy go and upset clients sometimes don't come back.
Mine is VIE-L29C636B370 currently.
Tried on my Samsung (Smart)TV for MirrorShare feature and does not seem to have issues.
There's around half second to one second delay in pushing the display to the TV though. "Seemingly" slower than before update (because I never really measured the time previously).
Then is a bug for single sim international version VIE-L09C432B360. Before Nougat, on Marshmallow my P9plus mirror share function was without issues(I used it frequently) . Now I have to use my Samsung Tab S 10.5 tablet for mirror sharing so please Huawei do your homework and respect your clients, I paid 700 Euros last year in July for your product.
After last update to android 7 my mirrorShare feature is casting the screen to a samsung tv with half of the screen is totally green . Before the update everything was working fine.
I search the case and found many people asking the same question with no answers yet. Any Help ?
Sadly after yesterday's update to B370 (from B360) mirror share is the same, flawed with half screen bug.
Huawei, please fix this major problem, please !
+1
Discover the same bug in my p9 B386

Huawei don't care about us. Probably this is my last new, full price Huawei "flagship" smartphone.
Same problem on an Honor 8 with Android 7
+1 P9 B386
I wonder if this problem exist on P10/plus, Mate 9 or other newer Huawei phones.
Updated to B376 today (OTA) but the bug still here.
Probably my next phone will be another brand, Sony Xperia or...
I've got a P9 and a Mediapad M3 and only shows to top of the screen as well while connecting to Samsung tv. A Galaxy Tab3 doesn't have this problem.
Same problem with my huawei P9, running B391 firmware!

I thought I was the only one with this kind of issue. It's really annoying because I always use mirrorsharing! I went back to were I bought it since I thought that the problem was the unit. They changed it with a brand new phone but the mirroshare still won't work!

Emui 8 problems

I'm quite interested in the mate 10 pro or soon to be released P20 pro. However I have heard nasty things about the EMUI. One really concerning thing is notifications not coming through. A few more other things too. How many affected by this
I have a mate 10 for 5 months,
and no problem with emui or notifications
Everything works great.
Only annoying is the lack of updates.
And still no stable custom rom.

So it doesn't receive frequent updates. That can be an issue. I have a sony at the moment which receives frequent updates. That means the mate 10 pro is not treble ready. Might be safer to go with the pixel xl 2 but lets see if the p20 will be treble ready

Notifications are definitely an issue. When an app is not used for some time notifications will not be delivered. This issue is caused by the far too aggressive battery management. You could disable it but that's not what should have to do.
I have the mate 10 pro and it's certainly not a bad phone, but I wouldn't choose it again. Dual SIM is a requirement for me so at this moment I would probably go for the S9 Plus (also the S9's camera is another reason).

I 100% agree with MichelLoyen, I don't trust this phone at all (mate 10 pro). I don't dare installing 3rd party apps for stuff like calendar and sms. My Garmin (bluetooth) connection is completely random if it works or not. The manual battery "managment" settings seems to be ignored in many cases.
Also the M10pro is a "google recomended" device. A status that should give security updates at the latest within 90 days. My phone is on start of november security update. So this is just another bull**** promise that is worthless.

for example i have tried 3 apps for prayer reminders and non of them worked for a complete day , it works once and the next it get missed and other delay .
also i have a call recorder which is working great on my Xperia Z3 but here is not recording every single call .
also i have apps called BlipBlip for hourly peeping ... same issue .

Not sure what do you mean by "lack of updates". I got at least 1 update every month (mate 10 pro bla-l29 on .129 update here, on january 1st security patch). This is more than reasonable. My only problem with notifications is that i dont receive notifications from telegram app, thats all. And this started after an update of the app

Mate 10 series is treble ready, lol. Search forums
The Mate seriies is aimed mre at business people just like Samsungd Note series. However if you don't receive notifications on a regular basis this is a major problem. Especially if you are a corporate user you would want your phone to function like a work horse. I'm really upset with Huawei as they have not rectified the software problems. I want to get the new P series if it has OLED display with a 4000mah battery. The one thing that worries me the most is notifications. On the other hand on forums I have come across a fair bit of complaints that certain apps crash on the mate 10 pro. If I'm paying a premium price for a phone i would expect it to be nearly flawless. Also you would expect Huawei to roll out updates fixing the problems.
The reason why i don't get updates is that i bought the phone in Kuwait since its not being sold in Netherlands... Lol. So i rebranded it to Asia c636 and now it's on January 1st security. Just checked and it is trebble ok. When there is a stable custom rom i will flash it to it this easy way.. I have a mate (no pro) and really everything works flawless. Wifi/4g/Bluetooth /gps /all apps/notifications /calendar etc....
The only thing that doesn't work is huawei cloud.
Reason is that i cannot select Netherlands phonenumber because cloud doesn't work here in.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro, where's EMUI 8.1, when is OK Google gonna work, landscape homescr

Hi Members, when are UK HM10pro phone and users going to get the EMUI 8.1 firmware Android update (if ever), why does OK Google still not work, with it still greyed out, why have they still not sorted out having the home screen in landscape view (not just the apps).
I think Huawei leave a previous model behind ,like all Chinese makers, forget about there users of a previous model, and concentrate on there upcoming phone (The Mate 20 Pro)
I have the latest OTA UK user updates, I even tried that Huawei beta program app (load of rubbish, only for Chinese models).
I think this will be my first, and last Huawei phone product, I think I'll stick with Samsung next time (updates always funelled through at some point with them)
If anyone has an idea on resolving these issues, please post (I've done may full phone resets, so don't bother with this suggestion thanks)
I've also emailed Huawei many times about all the above issues, with there finale help being an update will come (or in the next update), this was months ago now, so very unreliable support.
Thanks
Same here. I regret buying mate Pro. Waiting for one plus 6t n I will get rid of this 10 pro. Absolute bollocks

Looks like we´ll never get EMUI 8.1 in the west, most likely EMUI 9 on Pie soon, as Pie beta program is running and expected to end Nov-30 so far.
Regarding UK devices, if you have some experience try rebranding to EU, which is constantly updated(on October security patch today). I posted a little guide to go UK -> EU on UK thread, check it out if you´re interested: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77825017&postcount=470
Hi All, thanks for the input and comments, so what it really comes down to is ..."don't buy Huawei again" from the vibes that I'm getting here.
I wouldn't want to do any unlocking and rooting, just to have bug fixed update, which should be offered by the manufacturer as a 'duty bound product service' provider anyway, ..no, this is not acceptable.
My only course of action is not to buy there products again, as a consumer that's the power we all have, and we should invoke this stance buy the casual manner by which Huawei, or anyother manufacturer chooses to do so.
Our mistake as buyers is, that we allow these large profit mongering technology companies to continue.
I don't include the likes of Apple, or Samsung, or Sony, these companies have a strong and proven track record, and in the end, are a safer bet with standing by there technology, and supporting there products a little more.
Thanks you members who posted comments.
Regards
Since getting a Mate 10 in February it has received improved night mode camera, monthly security updates, GPU Turbo (never used this), and face unlock. I am happy with that. Much better than Mate 9 that did not get any new features until Oreo arrived in January, and only security updates every 3 or 4 months. 8.1 is out on Chinese Mate 10 models, and Pie is on the way bring it on
This is for C185 region
OK Google Update
OK Google still not working here in UK, any idea when Mate 10 Pro will get Android Pie?? Im still on Android security Patch 1 June 2018 with no updates available? Anyone got a newer security patch?
Model BLA-L09
EMUI 8.0.0
LG and Samsung are as crap as Huawei for updates.
Good luck ever seeing an update on a LG - the wife's G6 (which was mine before she had it) had no security updates while it ran Android 7, was updated to Oreo, and has had one security update since.
