Got my s10+ and galaxy buds just recently! - Samsung Galaxy S10 Guides, News, & Discussion

This thing is awesome, I'm still trying to get used to the features and everything. The pods did come with the phone and there is a screen protector pre applied and no there is no cutout on the screen protector for the fingerprint scanner. I have had no problems with the scanner reading my fingerprints.

Mines just arrived while I'm at work here, will open and setup when I get home ?????

my left thumb, which I'm left handed so usually holding my phone with left hand, I've gotten pretty good at unlocking with that hand, if I've got my phone out of hand or in my right hand I fail like **** to unlock it even with index and other thumb set to unlock. And in honesty, even the left hand is pretty easy to fail. It's pretty bad ass phone though, mine isn't a + but just a regular.

I'm right handed and use my left hand for my phone as there's keys and box cutters in my right pocket and just the wallet in my left. There's an update that just randomly appeared for "Biometerics and Security" that I just did and it's way better although I didn't have too much of an issue before. I tried system updates before hand and it didn't show anything so hopefully that helps others that it's "Biometrics and Security" update and not a system update which I thought it was.

in very typical sprint fashion I got an update tonight as well, but it was literally just labeled as security update, nothing explicitly set about biometrics. I suspect it was related though, as I read something a few days ago about Samsung having an update ready for it already. Either way, for my 99% use case it seems to be 99% successful unlocking with one press. I upgraded from an s7, so the performance difference is... well it's night and day

Oh definitely much better! I actually upgraded from a LG G6 which I technically upgraded from an S7 edge which was slowing down, so I found a deal on facebook marketplace on this LG G6 in great condition. I decided to get the phone and sell my S7 edge to a close friend/co-worker. Turns out that the phone I bought the ear piece speaker sounded really bad during calls, almost to the point of not being able to understand anyone unless the volume was way low. To top it off, supposedly the G6 SIM card trays are defective and mine literally snapped as I was pulling it out to take my SIM card and SD card out of it.. Meanwhile my friend has had no issues whatsoever with the S7 edge I sold to her. I would've been fine if I just did a factory reset on the S7 edge, but instead I was dumb and fell into a too good to be true deal Lesson learned though! I'll stick to Samsung for my phones from now on!

Weird noise on galaxy buds
After the last update, the person on the other end whom I'm talking to, is hearing a cricket like noise.
Someone else having this issue?

Had a Faulty Device, my experience so far...

So first 2-3 days with the device I kept noticing more and more issues since its been out of the box. I'm really particular with anything I own and if I'm paying money for it then I expect nothing but the best, and I'll take care of my belongings the same.
As soon as I unboxed it I noticed that some of the edges of the metal finish were unevenly colored and scratched. The dark plastic fillers on the back had patches in them and were discolored also. I told myself I wouldn't be so nitpick-ey about those. Moving on...
Later once I setup the phone I realized the power button's right side was completely sunk in, while the volume rocker was also uneven, with the Volume up Side sticking out of the device, and the Volume down Side completely flush with the device.
Concerned I took it to the closest AT&T store where I've become quite friendly with some of the sales associates there. Just wanted to get an opinion as to whether I should live with these imperfections (it would have drove me crazy). I showed it to one of them and they urged me to call AT&T support and try to set up a buyers remorse period exchange straight away.
It took two hours to deal with AT&T customer service on the phone, but it was worth it. I'm shipping this one back and they're gonna priority ship out another one soon. The representative told me they've been getting a few calls regarding such hardware issues.
I'm interested to see if any of you have had any issues yet so far. And if this is a isolated situation with a few devices manufactured at different warehouses.
As with any new product launch, there are going to be some bad ones that slip through the cracks in the rush to get the product to consumers as quickly as possible. I'm glad you got your fixed rather easily, though!

Yes of course I completely agree with you. With a few product launches recently and the ones I've bought right when they were released have had issues out of the box or after major updates. The XboxOne, PS4, Retina iPad Mini, 5S etc have given me a little trouble out of the box or after their big updates, but they're still premium devices. Same with the HTC M8 that's why I didn't make too big a deal about it and seek to get my money back. I just asked for an exchange that's all. The rep that helped me, he urged me to ask for a replacement. This device is going to my daily driver for the next year and a half or so. Really happy with it minus the little issues thus far. Best mainstream android device I've ever used.

My M8 was random rebooting every so often. It was enough to notice it as a problem. I did a factory reset, problem still persisted. AT&T gladly exchanged and now I'm good to go ???

SO far I have the power button stick on me a few times. Pressing it a few times seems to get it to go back to normal.
Also once while on a call, afterwards the phone would not sleep. Powered the phone off. Ever since phone has been running smooth.
Glad you were able to get it exchanged. I've had mine for a few days and while there are no critical flaws, I do see some scratches that I most definitely did not cause and were there out of the box. I also know what you mean by the uneven banding because I have that too, it's very minor though. There are 2 surface scratches on the back that aren't noticeable unless you have really good eyes (which I do) and a very small chip at the front around the bezel that is impossible to cause naturally. I'm trying to tell myself I shouldn't be so picky because I've already unlocked the bootloader and put a custom rom on it and I assume if I want to exchange it at Best Buy I'll have to put the stock rom back on and lock the bootloader. I'm on the fence. I don't exactly want the Best Buy employee to think I'm crazy if I take it back plus it all takes up my time so I'm trying to tell myself it doesn't matter. If I caused the scratches I'd just live with it but it annoys me that they were there out of the box. Please tell me I'm crazy or I might actually go for an exchange.
Just got mine the other day and found a couple issues with it.
The top panel just below the front camera is pushed out a bit so there's sharp edge and stuff is already getting caught under it. You can push it down and make it flush but it pops back up after a while. Also my touchscreen will just randomly stop responding to touch. Going to reset to back to stock and exchange it later this afternoon.

Honestly you're lucky it's Best Buy. I've done multiple exchanges there before for each: MacBook, Xbox One and iPhones. They did it easy no questions asked. At least in my case. If I were you I'd exchange it. No excuses for the device to be that scratched up and imperfect out of the box. Also remember to check for Dead Pixels, Volume Rocker, and Power Button issues.

Thanks for the advice. For a little bit today I was determined to go get an exchange but I kind of buffed out the worst scratch (which was only like 3mm) with a nail buffer so I think I'll just save myself the trouble of putting the phone back to stock, having to take it to best buy, and re-flashing the new phone. Plus I did not take a backup of the stock AT&T rom. I don't know if someone has posted it in the forums, I'm going to look, but it's just such a drag to go through with putting it back to stock then an exchange.
The volume rocker doesn't sit 100% parallel but it's very close, the power button has no issues, and the bezel is pretty well flushed with the speaker grills. I think I'll just keep this one, I am also afraid that the new one might even have worse problems. HTC needs to get their quality control tighter because I have had tons of devices but never a problem out of the box.
Next time I buy a phone I am going to make sure I check the condition thoroughly. Or at least check it before I root and flash a rom. When I got the M8 I just grabbed it and went...
So I said I wasn't going to exchange it but I was still annoyed by the flaws and I was approaching my 14 days.. took it to Best Buy today without putting it back to stock and was able to exchange it. They just switched out the SIM card and gave me a new one, but they did reiterate that they don't normally do it for scratches and they were making an exception. I could totally tell they didn't believe it was the manufacturer's fault, but they didn't give me attitude and were nice. They didn't look at the software or boot screen in the old phone so they didn't even see that it was unlocked and rooted. They mentioned it was getting sent back so HTC is going to have to deal with it, which they should have to because the one I exchanged for is totally perfect. I didn't realize the other one was even more problematic than I thought until I saw how well constructed this one is. The volume rocker doesn't fumble around, the screen is set perfectly leveled with the speaker grills, no scratches on bezel or back. This is how they SHOULD come, every single one of them. In the future when I get HTC phones I am going to examine it right then and there so I don't have to go through the trouble of sounding asinine while trying to explain what the store employees surely think are non-problems.
I don't think I would've made the exchange without this thread though so thanks. I'm now free to enjoy the awesomeness of this phone without being held back by structural annoyances.

Power Button

On my Verizon V10 the power button/fingerprint scanner seems pretty loose. There's a lot of play up and down, kind of like this video. Is this common? Is this a defect? Should I swap it out while I'm in my 14 days?

Also feels loose on mine, but not too bad. Maybe intended as mentioned above.
Mine is not that loose. It has a little bit of play but I don't hink it's as much as what your video shows.

Rolling the T-Mobile version here as well. Mine isn't as loose as it looks like yours is.
I'd go and get a replacement if you think it'll cause problems in the future.
F600S here... I would say loose, but the video is like twice mine.
Mine started out being a little wobbly but has gotten progressively worse over the last 2 days. I'd say now it's as wobbly and creaky as in the video. Gonna head to the Verizon store to check out the floor display and possibly swap it out.

Good idea. Better to go work it out now instead of letting it fester inside you.
My fingerprint reader wasn't working well at all, took 20 minutes to register fingerprint and unlocking was hit and miss. Took it back to store and tried the demo. The demo was perfect. They gave me a new phone and reader didn't work. (the sales guy couldn't get it to work either)
Then I realized the only thing different was the cheap Verizon case.
With the case off, and touching the metal edges while using fingerprint reader it unlocked 100 percent all the time.
If you have issues try without case. Must have something to do with conductivity. Happy camper now.
Mine has a little play in it as well. I wonder if it was the result of the jagoff TMO employee straining to turn the thing on with brute force before I asked him to stop then hand it to me. Oh boy, this feel lighter than my G3, you sure the battery is in it?
I'll forever blame that person now.
I swapped mine out, now a week later the button on the new unit is pretty wobbly too. I don't know how well LG designed/tested this thing and what kind of long-term durability we should expect out of it. I love the phone, so I'm not going to return it. Let's see if any wide-spread issues creep up.

I have the same problem but its not that bad, it does not stay stuck onto one side but i did notice that it was very creaky and sounded like springy

All The Issues i Have had with my LG V10/mini review

Let me start by saying that i bought this phone only 3 days ago and these are the problems I've found with it.
1. The Second screen back light issue. This is a common problem among many lg v10 users as i have noticed, and i have that same problem too. to the extreme left of the second display it is brighter than the rest but only when it is off. I do not find this very annoying since i do not use the second display for reading my notifications while it is off. i mostly use it when the screen is on
2. In addition to that, the power button/ fingerprint scanner combo is completely garbage, as in the actual clicking. the button seems loose and when i click it, it squeaks. Also, when i run my finger up and down the power button it wobbles and has the same annoying squeak.
3. The charging port is loose. Not so much that the cable could slide out not in that axis, but it moves side to side freely and up and down. this worries me because i think that if i put too much pressure on the cable the port could break somehow.
4. The steel bezels are nice and stuff but the gaps, are uneven at the bottom left, the metal bezel is like bent and you can easily see through it. also at the back when you pop in the cover it seems like it doesn't align with the bezel. but that might just be my ocd lol
This phone in my opinion is great the best phone I've had. but its just that these things are what let me down. This phone is great but they absolutely ruined it with the quality control. note* my batch is from January 15, 2016
U probably just got a bad one. Sometimes, they make it thru the quality control somehow. I would return it until u get the one ur satisfied with.

Yeah I think I should but I'll wait until the weekend and decide if I should change it.
Probably a good idea. The flaws won't change. I have the lightbleed on the 2nd screen, but I never notice unless it's absolutely pitch black where I am and the screen is off. It doesn't annoy me tho.

I like the phone, maybe I love it. I have the same problem with the residual light on the left of second screen. (phone batch 26 Oct.2015) But, what I dislike the most:
1. The lack of a LED on the front.
2. The second screen, about my opinion is useless until then a developer create an xposed apk for a flashing light on second screen when I loose a call.
3. The fingerprint sensor is useless too for me.
4. Volume of the speaker is not too loud.
But, I like the size and the shape of the phone. It is a catch eyes everywhere I go. Benchmarks are very good for a Snapdragon 808. The screen is very fluid. And the most, the camera and his software are great; you believe or not I compared in photoshop pictures from an expensive Sony semiprofessional DSLR camera with photos made with my V10 and the overall quality are quite the same. It's the best phone I ever had (and I had a lot of top level androids)
I don't want to change it, even on a G5!

The light bleed is a common issue, but everything else sounds like your phone was assembled incorrectly, you should exchange it
Okay so today I was wondering if I could find any more nit picky problems and noticed that the back cover did not sit flush with the buttons and that if I pushed it down it became flushnot a big issue but it bugs me when I'm turning up the volume or turning on the phone

Well I exchanged a week ago and now that the time limit to return it is over, it cracked, not from a drop. It just cracked by itself there is a small hair line crack right by the metal rail and if is so annoying I paid good money and I take care of my phones well even if this was made to be tough. It cracked while I was in the car waiting for someone and then out of no where I heard a little pop and I thought nothing about it but after I finished watching the video I noticed it and got so scared I was like"did I drop it" but I did not idk how it managed to break I haven't dropped my phone yet and it just cracked out of nowhere

Fingerprint Reader

Does anyone know if the fingerprint reader works without actually having to push it and just rest your finger on the reader?
Yes, it does.
Yes it does and in fact, it is the fastest sensor I have used. I received mine yesterday and it has been great.
It is a million times better than my note 5 fingerprint scanner. No need to wake the screen with the G5!
This feature is invaluable and its placement really is perfect.

Sounds like the same setup as the Nexus 6P, which was amazing. I really miss it on my S7 Edge, which usually fails the first attempt every time I try and unlock it.
Yes s7 edge sensor is crap compared to the nexus 6p. I might sell my s7 and go to LG g5.
I'm shopping for a new phone and a fingerprint scanner is a key factor. I'm looking at the G5 or the Nexus 6P. Both have the scanner where I'd like it os it's a hard choice. The G5 has the smaller screen which I like too.

Well the price is a huge difference too. Really i'll have to see the G5 in person. I have the 6P. Not sure I can justify the extra doe even if I prefer smaller. Might wait a few months if I do like it. Doesn't hurt to take either device on a 14 day testing trail

If your phone lies on the table and you want to unlock it to check some stuff, how do you do this ? You must lift the phone from the table, and put your index finger on the scanner. While on any front sensor placement phone, you don't have to lift the phone from the table.
When the phone is in your pocket, when you take it out it is much easier to unlock it when the front button has the sensor, actually trying to put the index finger on the sensor is cumbersome and creates instability while holding the phone.
When you are using payment services, it is much easier to use your thumb to unlock it while the screen is facing towards you, because you can then hold the phone near the scanner while securely holding it. Using the index finger creates unwanted instability.
This placement doesn't look "perfect" at all to me. It's just a way for the manufacturers to differentiate in a bad way and not look like copycats for Apple and Samsung, while saving some money and making the phone more compact. It is much easier for a manufacturer to place the sensor on the back on the phone because there are no connectors needed, the sensor is soldered directly on the mainboard. But the ergonomy is really bad.

Sadly, I can't do the 14 day trial testing. My contract is considered a Sprint employee contract. Both phones appeal to my liking. The G5 is new and has no development, which is normal for a just released device. The 6P has tons of development, but the size is a little large. I have been using the Note series since the first release but 5.7 inch display is as large as I want to go. I just don't personally have the need and my hands are small. I can always start up the battle between removable batteries and SDcards but at the end of the day I really want a phone that can last me as long as the Note 3 when it comes down to mods and over all enjoyment of the device. Being able to root and flash is important too, and with the news of some recently release devices having locked bootloaders make me leery of new phones. To be honest, Samsung is just not making moves that make me want to spend money on their devices. I'm going to have to wait and see how things turn out before forking over part of my paycheck.

Yeah, I love the 6P... clearly the best phone I have had. I just which they made a smaller version of it. It is large and you will quickly get used to the size but then for work I have a smaller phone and find that I miss it. I do prefer LCD over AMOLED which is probably the number 2 reason I would even consider the G5 or the HTC 10. I will play with one at the store to see if it is even worth considering or if I should wait to see what the HTC 10 has to offer. EIther way I wouldn't buy it right now since LG's phones usually drop in price a few months after launch. I'd also go for the international version because after owning the AT&T G4 I noticed that it'll probably never have development with a locked bootloader.

I will say the only thing I don't like about the rumored HTC 10 is the placement of the fingerpirnt scanner. I like the idea of it being on the back. I know someone commented on the placement not being good as it being on the front but those points didn't sway me even though they made great sense.

Yeah but it all depends on how the phone feels in the hand, if it is small enough it wont be a problem. I wish someone would put 2 fingerprint readers on the phone. I love the one on the back but when I have it on my desk I have to enter my stupid code every time which gets annoying.

Yeah, I've always hated the Pins, passwords, and the patterns on phones. Face unlocks are a joke for now. My wife's S6 fingerprint scanner doesn't always work the first time, but that could be a thumb placement issue. I'd like to see a retinal scanner on a phone that works, but pipe dreams, no?

Yeah that would be interesting but probably be a bit before they can shrink it down and have it fast enough. Or a under the digitizer finger print reader which is probably what is next. It would be cool to place your finger anywhere on the screen and have it unlock.

yeah, it may be in the new iPhone this year since they removed the home button so it is likely the rest of them will add it as a response.
Hi guys, I just received my LG G5 from Verizon last night. Strangely, on my unit I need to press the fingerprint sensor button rather firmly for it to register. Is this the case for anyone else?

First I've seen this. Everyone else is commenting how quickly it works by just "touching" and not "pressing" down. Mine works very well workout any pressing.

Yeah on my G5 from T-Mobile all I need to do is rest my finger on the sensor and it unlocks the screen, no pressing required.

Thanks for your replies. I talked to LG yesterday and they are looking into this. I will let you know what they say. Last night while my phone was plugged into the charger, the fingerprint scanner was working correctly and all I had to do was rest my finger on it. Now it's morning and unplugged, and I have to press the button firmly again for it to register.

Mine unit from Poland also have this... More over i found one redditor that have bended unit.. I put mine on leveled (screen side) surface and also is bended... So meny $ a issues...

I am not going to defend Samsung etc, however if your unit is broken, got defects, or you are not happy with something - just send it back, ask for replacement or just return it then buy new one.
It's not just his... looks like a lamination issue.
Not something you should see on a flagship display.
Rather than owe up to it Samsung is making excuses saying it's normal. Translation: there must be a lot of them with this defect...

First: If you were read article you will knew that Samsung said it is manufacturing side effect so maybe it is not so obvious to return the unit. The defect is in the same place on all reported phones... Could be hard to get one without it as guy in twitter try 2 times and both have the same issue.
Second: If you were look inside the twitter comments you will see that it is not only uk but also in usa and other regions that are affected.
Third: 23u is my primary phone, so not so easy to just return it and stay without the phone as i also use esim. And more over i can get another unit with the same defect or even they will not accept it as they mention as it is side effect of manufacturing.
Right now it is not disturbing the use of the phone, but as i know it is there it is quite not comfy...
It's really irritating that people look for this nonsense that doesn't affect the functioning of the phone one iota and then share it around and ruin everyone else's enjoyment of their devices.
I can confirm that my US Ultra has this. Never would have seen it if it wasn't pointed out.

First - I read it, if you are not happy with the product, don't use it, simple. You still have 14 days to send it back if you are not happy, vote with your wallet.
Second - And? Not sure how big % of phones got that issue, but same as above applies, if people are not happy they should send units back. Maybe then samsung would acknowledge issue.
Third - No one force you to stay without phone, if you sold etc. your previous one or sent it back for trade in, then make a complain to Samsung.
And fourth, if you read my post with understanding you would get that I do not defend them. Sending back bad/wrong/broken etc product is our right, Samsung and S23 is not the only phone on the market, if you have issues with them, than feel free to buy something else.
I was angry with oneplus few years ago and guess what, I am on samsung now.

If that's what they say and your unit have it, vote with you wallet and send it back, there will be no change when people moan on this forum and Samsung keep their sales.

This is nothing but people hunting for reasons to dislike the phone. It has zero effect on functionality and you have to really be looking to even see it. It's a nothingburger discovery some iPhone fanboy found and put on Twitter to cause drama.

The problem is it's not supposed to be there at all. Not on my N10+'s. On a display that's not acceptable. It's a manufacturing defect and right where it's always in your face.
Worse, pretty sure Samsung was aware of this defect but they shipped them anyway. Like a brat they do what they want then make lame bs excuses for their actions. This isn't a injection molding tab Sammy, it's a screw up.
At this point there's no telling if over time it will get worse and/or spread. I'd return it for a cash refund especially at this price point, where the defect is and Samsung's condescending attitude.
but this is only visible with a strong light source, with certain angle of light with screen off. it has no impact on usability. i have seen it in the past on other curved displays

I upgraded to s23u with EE and i got it on 13th , 512gb ,green. Everything fine,until 3 days later when i installed a Samsung screen protector on,using a flashlight i was eyeballing for dust particles using a sticker. Right bottom corner i noticed a smudge, wiped off,still there, anyway upon close look ,in certain angle using the flashlight, i noticed this crease/bubble/dent around 4mm in width and 2mm height . To me it looks like a dent inwards rather than a bubble. Checked my pixel 7pro,nothing, checked my missus s21plus(flat screen),nothing, then i remembered i have stashed a galaxy s8(still works a take faster photos than s23u though) anything like this,screen was perfect.
Don't get me wrong, only in bright light ,shining directly on the screen you can see it. The touch screen works perfectly.
I contacted EE, the tech support said it looks like delamination or sort and could spread in time, right ,i said i do like the phone and i would like an exchange. EE delivered next day the replacement, as you guessed, same issue, this time half in size,almost not visible, but because i knew where and how to look ,i spotted it right away. Also very fine crease on the right,but almost not visible(unless you know what to look for).
Can i live with this ,yes i can,do i want to take a risk,thinking that potentially, ot could spread over thetime,hmm ,i don't. Opened a second return.
For ppl who said that this is not a big deal,remember, th ise damn phone is expensive and it should be perfect,like my previous s22ultra amd my 5 years old S8

My S23 Ultra has it. Then I just realized after a year of using my S22 Ultra that this is the case as well... Guess it doesn't really matter.

I'm still having trouble seeing it in these pictures, even when it's directly pointed out, lol. I'm not gonna examine my phone. It looks generally fine and I'm gonna stick with it.

I think the issue is that most people wouldn't even notice if someone didn't point it out to them in special lighting. I think you should be able to discuss and point out anything you deem flawed. But on the other end you should also expect pushback from people who think you are just being spoiled when you have the option to return it. I have noticed it on my Galaxy S23 Ultra US version but only by looking at it in lighting. I think the device is fantastic and even with that little flaw I will keep my device since I can't really notice it since I have a case on it.

It's probably present on certain batches; some will have it, others not. A major QC screw up. If the defect was minor you wouldn't be able to see it at all.
This is a defect that could effect the survivability of the glass. Glass is subject to some of the laws of hydrodynamics. This deformity causes new stress points. It may not crack there but in another area of the display, hydrodynamics. Glass is a peculiar substance with bizarre properties. Of course if it breaks Samsung will say it's your fault for dropping it.
