Unlocking bootloader immediately - Xiaomi Mi 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi all!
I got this nice phone yesterday. I made a Mi account about 3 month ago, hoping that when i get the phone i can unlock it immediately. Sadly, MiFlash Unlock said that "You need to wait 360 hours..." etc.
But i found a way that could unlock immediately. :good:
- First of all, you need to download latest MiFlash Unlock. Get it here. (You need to update it in the app itself, just to be sure you have the latest version.)
- Sign in, Install latest drivers, connect Mi account & device etc.
- Go for unlocking, to the point where it says "You need to wait..."
Now the fun part:
I was reading guides and stuff in this forum, where i found a thread about 360 hours of waiting. There was a comment by @arddy1 (Thank you) which solved this issue.
- Download this MiFlash Unlock tool (This is an older version.)
- Sign in, go for unlocking (It'll still wipe everything so make backups)
- Reboot
- Enjoy
It's not 100% working but you can give it a try.
Hope i helped! Happy flashing :good:

So you're able to unlock instantly with that mi unlock right? Are you sure you have not waited 360h before?
In my case, that mi unlock version didnt make me unlock immediately, but to skip additional waiting hours. I still need to wait 360h before can unlocking.
I heard some old or admin mi account can unlock instantly. In your case, I dont know how it works. For normal account, normally you need to wait 360h on whatever any mi unlock version.

I tried unlocking with the latest tool yesterday, which gave me the 360h waiting. Today i found your comment and tried. It worked instantly

Doesn't work for me, still got 173h left on both versions.

How old is your Mi account? Maybe it's the cause of it.

I have a xiaomi account for some years now, this unlcoker tool did not change the wait time.

Interesting... Then it could be random. :/

Will try later.
Edit: it says binding time is too short.
latest unlock tool says 95 hours left.

I tried this version too, still have to wait 360 hours. You were lucky!

I wonder how it worked for me :|

according to my theoretical & practical research old tricks like using old miflash, old account do not work. i used also this version with veteran account and it didn't decrease waiting time by a nanosecond. the only trick still working is when xiaomi gives you extra ~3 days to wait as a bonus for not using the device (who would use non-rooted device?), you can skip it with old miflash.

I've ordered one, should be here Saturday. Given that, I'm reading where you basically have to use the device during that 15 days? I'd honestly prefer not to until I can set it up how I prefer, from what you gather, using the old version will allow that?

Good attitude. I'm strict too and i didn't use the device at all, and also borrowed SIM card for the registration process. So i got penalty 3 extra days for not providing Spyaomi enough of profiling data I can imagine excited sheep, having privacy in mind as last priority, will use the phone most actively during the first days, which is perfect for them.
You don't need to do it. After 15 days, get a bail from extra jail with old miflash. Just make sure to keep the account, i switched, and the countdown started over. After oem unlock, you can delete the account from phone, then delete it from the xiaomi website. Bye bye:victory:

Great. That's what I'll do then.

This method is not working for me either, waiting time is around 347 hours, let xiaomi use my data for that time... lolz

Trying to unlock bootloader -- Can't register on Huawei website!

I'm following this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/development/root-kiw-l24-usa-kiwi-t3305190
I can't register on the website because it's taking a really really long time to load the website. I've tried different browser with the same result... Can someone let me borrow their account/ do it for me so I can get my unlock code?

Same issue for me since Wed last week! I am beginning to think that $200 just doesn't buy as much company support as $600 does.... Will probably sell the device if I can't get the bootloader unlocked soon.
I am having no issues loading the sites.
U might check any antivirus program u might have on our comp or firewalls

This has been happening since the day the phones came out. The good thing is that you only have to unlock one time. After a month with this phone, I am very happy with it. So don't let the unlock website ruin the phone for you. The rumor is that they run their website with hamsters, they probably tire easily. Small price to pay for such a cheap phone with such good specs.
I like the fact that Huawei has gone out of their way to tell developers how to unlock things and mess with things. Even one of their company reps has posted several times that he will give advice for those making mods.
Hello,
I had problems with the website as well - registering was fine, but the unlock part was always "busy".
I got my code by using the chinese part of the site - horribly slow, but it works.

Its been more than 32 days since I have bought my KIW-L22 (Indian version). I had no luck with site even though I used both IMEI numbers. Every time I do it, 14 days message appears. Its been more than 32 days and getting frustrated with it.

Hello, that won't do it, only the unlock does.
Unlocking the bootloader won't prevent OTA updates.
But custom recovery, like TWRP will. You will have to go back to stock before installing updates.

I had to give up and use the unofficial process. I detailed it here - http://www.modaco.com/forums/topic/...our-honor-5x-official-and-unofficial-methods/

Not sure, if it's the same issue, but I think everyone has been misinterpreting the 14 days warning. What it says is the ID "has not been used on the phone for more than 14 days." While most people have understood that to mean "you have to have used the phone for 14 days," what I discovered it probably actually meant was "The ID you put in here has not been used on this phone for over 14 days" or, in my case "has never been used on this phone." I think the hard stop is trying to prevent granting unlock codes to inactive users, not new users. The second part of the equation is that the ID with which you log in has to be in some way tied to your phone. I had tried to log in with Facebook because my email registration had screwed up. I was getting that error because I hadn't used that Facebook account on my phone. So I downloaded the Facebook app, logged in with my account, and tried again. This time it worked!
TL;DR: Make sure you log into Huawei site using an ID (phone number, email address) that is actively tied to some account on your phone, be it Google, Facebook, etc, and you should get past the 14 days error.

I have created Huawei account using my yahoo email
Have installed Facebook app and login using the same yahoo email
Have installed yahoo mail app with same yahoo email
I still see the message
"The Huawei ID used to apply for the unlock code has not been used on the device for more than 14 days."
I was thinking of that in the same was as you @ultimahwhat thought, in previous two days in have installed almost every app published by Huawei and login using the same Huawei account by thinking it may identify my ID as "used in the device" still no luck.
Even I reset my phone to see if I missed something in initial setup like if I have skipped any Huawei login process in the setup process, but there is no such step in the initial setup.
So actually very disappointed and reall have no idea of what they say.
Feel like I would never buy any Huawei device again and never recommend Huawei to anyone.
This is gonna be my first and last Huawei device.
Dear @wimbet
Can you please explain what Huawei actually mean by that 14 days message and what Huawei expect user to perform for obtaining the unlock code as there is a big confusion in this matter?
I am very thankful for any information.

Problem getting bootloader unlock code

First, I try to log in with my usual Huawei ID. It doesn't allow me. I try to get my password back, they send me an email in Chinese with a link to restore my password, I click on that link and the web does not exist.
Then I created a new account. I finally logged in! But, when I was typing my phone information (IMEI, serial number, etc) and when I finally clicked on the submit code buton, it said the following:
The Huawei ID used to apply for the unlock code has not been used on the device for more than 14 days.
Any ideas with that?
Hi,
I can tell you I tried during months on the website and always got the same error code as you. Then I used DC unlocked, it cost me 7€ I think and I got the code in 4 minutes. It saved me a lot of time, so don't hesitate. Please have a look at a tutorial where they talk about the official and unofficial method. That's the unofficial method which works great.

never again huawei!,because I have to pay to have the code!??????? , ****!
To pay 7€? Are you kidding me? For a phone that you got at least 50€ less expensive versus the competitors...

This means that the registration on Huawei website must be "old" at least 14 days. If you can wait 14 days, you will can get your unlock code without further problems.
This doesn't means that I agree with Huawei statements.
Hope this can help you.
I waited 60 days , I think are sufficient....

Certainly, a problem is occurring. I'm reporting mine experience that was positive, at 15th day I was able to generate the code and next to unlock the phone.
The message was still the same ?
yes,the message is alwais the same

ciao
Hi,
I can tell you for sure you will never get the unlock code from the huawei website. I tried for 4 months i think. I tried with my huawei account linked to facebook, i tried with a new user account not linked to facebook, I alsways made sude the huawei ID was connected on the phone, I got in contact with Huawei club also which only warned me about the risks of rooting the phone, etc.
I still don't figure out why it worked for some and why not for some others, but paying 4 or 7€ definitely saved me a lot of additional headaches.

Hey guys, thank you for your comments, I tried yesterday in Huawei's website and it worked, I'm not sure I will use it yet, but I've noted it just in case^^

7 Days OEM unlock requirements ? exactly what is required

so about 8 days ago i saw there were updates for my S9 software available , at this time i was about to root and had oem unlock visible. anyway i thought it would be good to do the updates first as it said something about improving the camera stability which i thought would be worthwhile to do before root ( and then cant do OTA updates)
anyway after the updates the phone restarted and said something about security issue and restarted again. after that no OEM unlock available. i just waited 7 days with no restart and no OEM unlock is still not visible.
so yesterday i did full reset of device and will wait another 7 days, phone has no sim in it as im not using it. but it is signed into google but not samsung account. do we know if this good enough to get the OEM unlock after 7 days ?
its a long time to wait each time... had the phone over 2 weeks now and still using my s8 as i cant root this new one yet...
please can we confirm what exactly is required to make sure that after 7 days we see the unlock ?
insert sim card ?
google account sign in
Samsung account sign in
don't power off or reboot
i didn't insert sim or sign into Samsung last time.. not sure if necessary ?
would be good to make sure what is needed for sure.
I saw this on this forum, but my phone had OEM unlocking even on the first days of purchase.
I have the same problem with my s9+ have been waiting for 7 days since first start the phone but I did factory reset few times trying to get OEM but still no luck.
My wife s8 had the Oreo update this morning then I checked the dev mode after it completed and fuss what OEM is fine too arrrrrr
I believe you need a SIM.
Also factory reset will reset the timer. So dont do that!
Hi, any update in this. I'm currently experiencing the same thing. Did the OEM unlock eventually show up?

Unfortunately you just have to wait it out, there have been cases where weeks went by and then it just pops up.
Some people have had luck changing csc but doing that has caused others issues.
Even since the note 8 came out last year this isnt fully understood sadly

360 hours in most cases.
For me 360 hrs, am still waiting.......
15 days and FYI dont sign out of miui account or do factory reset during that time. If you do you have to create a new account and start the wait over again.

The normal setup is:
- Go to Settings/Mi Account and logging in.
- Go to Settings/About phone and tap 7 times on MIUI version (to enable Developer Options)
- Go to Settings/Additional settings/Developer options and enable USB Debugging and OEM unlocking, in the same section go to Mi Unlock status and Agree the Permissions required, from the link you can download directly the MiUnlock Tool and then move it to your pc, now tap on Add account and device; this will bind your account and device.
- You can go to fastboot using buttons or downloading ADB installer https://androidmtk.com/download-15-seconds-adb-installer, if you set it up ADB installer you can go to fastboot mode by typing
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
or same way you can go to it by shutting down device, then pressing and holding vol- and pwr at same time.
- Connect device to pc and open MiUnlock Tool that you previously downloaded, logging in, Tool will warn you two or three times, then tap on "Unlock now" usually users are receiving 360 hrs wait time.
- From here be careful trying to downgrade or formatting data or resetting the account trying some workaround cause the tool can reset this time and start again the countdown time.
My bootloader was unlocked without any waiting time with MiUnlock.
I thought I would wait very long and was ready for it.
How could this happen?

Lucky you
The average time is 15 days
For me was 30 minute before 15 days
so seems wait time is shorter now for some reason. Weird, I got a redmi note pro 64 gb and was able to adb in and flash twrp right away but I had to run the antirollback dummy.img first then it went off without a hitch. I restored the original firmware but I think the amazon seller was unlocking chinese versions and flashing the global ROM which made it work right but you still didn't have the LTE bands it should have had. So I returned it since that seller 'wireless place' seems to be doing this with all phones they sell.

Either they changed their unlock policy very recently, or most likely you experienced a lucky glitch on their server.
EDIT: Or what the quote below mentions. Does your phone have proper LTE bands?

Some folks have reported theirs unlocked a few days shy of the 15 days. I kept checking mine about every other day just to make sure it was actually counting down. Even with 16 hours left, it would not allow me to unlock. Then on unlocking hour, I was busy and missed it by a few hours, but it immediately unlocked. I had TWRP on it within a few minutes, and rooted a day or two after. Yipee! Love the phone!

Question LOS install

So, I'm patiently waiting on my bootloader unlock code and had a question just to make sure I do this right. After the unlock of my TMobile variant, I plan on installing the LOS rom into my phone but need to make sure of some things. 1. I would downgrade to the Android 11 version of the stock rom first correct? Also 2. The mindthegapps is the best version to use correct?
I have been a member of this forum for a long time now and am clearly getting old. Haha. My first phone to root and unlock with these forums was an htc phone. Had a few of those. Then my favorite phone to play with on here was a Nexus 4. Then 2 separate pixel phones ending with the pixel 4. Money has been a little tight lately and I saw TMobile's deal with this phone recently and couldn't hesitate. Been a decent phone so far but can never hesitate when seeing an opportunity to make a phone better.
Thank you in advance to anyone who helps.
Yes. You'll have to downgrade to 11. Mindthegapps works fine but I recommend FlameGapps full as that includes stuff like digital wellbeing, google clock, google calculator, and more that mindthegapps won't give you.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/gapps-arm64-flamegapps-for-android-10-0-11-0-12-0-12-1.4020917/
There are addons by the way, just don't install pixel launcher as that one doesn't work.
I actually prefer bitgapps. But that's just me. You WILL see that they are not verified versions, hitn"flash anyways".
www.onepluscommunityserver.com has the firmware under "unbrick tools".
Disclaimer: they have no affiliation with oneplus. If you really appreciate them, leave them a donation
Thank you both for all the help and advice. I appreciate it @justauserthatusesaphone @Springles2
remember you need msm tool on windows to downgrade. there's basically no other way
:')
There is a Linux tool... But it is a lot to learn lol. And it is cli-based
Interesting, now I can't check the status of my unlock code on OnePlus website. When checking the status it just comes back as a white page. Hope I'll still get it.
Does the unlock token webpage work at all for you guys?
When I go to the page (https://www.oneplus.com/unlock_token), I get nothing but a blank page.
I've tried this on Windows 10, Ubuntu, Android combined with Firefox, Chrome, Edge, mobile browser and they all show up as blank.
I wrote to oneplus support few days ago and all I've received was a generic response - wait until they work on it.

I get the exact same thing

I actually prefer bitgapps. But that's just me. You WILL see that they are not verified versions, hitn"flash anyways".
www.onepluscommunityserver.com has the firmware under "unbrick tools".
Disclaimer: they have no affiliation with oneplus. If you really appreciate them, leave them a donation

After you install lineage, reboot into recovery, and then install. I had the same thing happen when I didn't reboot to recovery after installing the lineage zip.

No worries, I'd prefer you using my question thread that I even asked about gapps to get the help you are needing rather than me being upset because I took this thread off topic and you actually Brought it back on topic!
Also going a little back off topic, I got my unlock code approval email just like they said it would. Pretty much 7 days to the minute. The sad part is the download link and regular link also still go to a blank page. Sad day, I was ready to get this done today.
I GET IT. Why is it white still... This the 4th day in a row... It doesn't take 4 days to repair or build a dns server... Even from scratch... Trust me.. I've done it.

I have as well, I went to school for network administration. The thing that I think it might be is an all hands on deck for their OxygenOS 13 beta they are releasing currently from what I understand. Of course I could be completely wrong. I could be completely wrong though. I'll just continue to be patient. Knowing now I have the email saying it's ready, nothing I could do but wait. Just hopefully it's fixed sooner rather than later. I doubt it will be today though since it's Sunday.

Yes. You'll have to downgrade to 11. Mindthegapps works fine but I recommend FlameGapps full as that includes stuff like digital wellbeing, google clock, google calculator, and more that mindthegapps won't give you.

There are addons by the way, just don't install pixel launcher as that one doesn't work.
