From mate 10 lite to Mi 9t - Huawei Mate 10 Questions & Answers

little bit longer since i used my nova 2i (mate 10 lite), no wonder it is not easy to unlock bootloader and experiencing brick of the phone for about 2 mos, and using dc phoenix to fix again, and it quite bit to long to get full firmware, since my nova 2i became mate 10 lite from rne-l22 to rne-l21, until hurupdater released and now you can install firmware easily., installing custom rom is not that to complicated anymore. but i need to let go my mate 10 lite and switch to mi 9t, for it easy to customize rather than my mate 10 lite.

Share your experience of the mi 9t please, I am thinking of switching to that phone too. Would appreciate it

It simply amazing, overall review is great for this mid range killer phone. only downside, you cannot add extra storage because there is no sd card slot. but everything is great from Display, battery, camera, in screen fingerprint scanner and performance.

Mate 10 Pro vs Oneplus 6

Which one should i get? They're roughly the same price in my country. I need a phone for at least 2-3years.
Well depends what you want from your phone.
I see a lot of advantages on the OP6.
The SD845 overall performance seems to be better than the Kirin 970, you have the option of 255GB for internal storage, besides the software is less intrusive style wise but also functionality wise.
But, the Mate has better cameras, it's a Android Enterprise Recommended phone, that means that you will get at least one security patch every 90 days for 2 years at least and at least 1 major OS update.
Other hardware features are better water protection and USB 3.0.
That said OnePlus track record of updating isn't that bad, but there's no promises from their side.
And last but not least, if you have any desire to do stuff with custom roms, rooting, etc... You'll wanna go OnePlus.
oneplus updating is spectacular.
I have the 3T and The 5T and both are still updated at least twice a month.
If battery life is the main concern, then the Mate 10 Pro may well be the better bet. I can get consistent 6+ hours of Screen on Time and mostly a full day of hard usage. It's about the only thing keeping me from staying with my M10P though. I got a deal that means I will pay significantly less for it than an upfront OP6 too. It may well be that the Mate 10 Pro will drop further as we get towards the Mate 20 launch in October.
The camera is good, but tends to over do the processing when in auto mode. It does have one of the best Pro modes though if you like to fiddle.
If you do get a Mate 10 Pro, make sure its a C432 model or one of the ones that are regularly updated - my C782 model is still on March 1st security update and I have no confidence that will improve once the Mate 20 is out.
If you have any interest in custom ROMS after that 2 years when you still have perfectly functioning hardware, then OnePlus is almost certainly the way to go - it seems to be one of the few flagships left that has a very active ROM development and Huawei have now shot down any claim to interest in that by withdrawing bootloader unlock.
I 'upgraded' from a OnePlus One running an 8.1 custom ROM that had worked perfectly except for the poor battery life - until it fell in the toilet! (Actually a replacement speaker later and it's still working fine and on a later version of Android that my M10P). There will certainly be options to run the latest software on a OnePlus 6 in 3 years, whereas you will likely be out of luck with the Mate 10 Pro. The camera sucked on the OPO, but I gather it is at least acceptable on the OP6
Software may not be a key concern - actually I can live with EMUI and it has some nice extra 'assistance' touches, but it also has flaky bluetooth in my experience and the over eager power management drives me crazy trying to use things like Tasker.
tl;dr - If you need the battery, go with Mate 10 Pro - if you don't care about the best camera possible, or ever want to go the custom rom route, go with OP6.
One plus 6 hands down, save your self the head ache of Huawei

For a price difference like that Mate 10 pro
didnt use OPO but did use xiaomi mi note 2 phone and now bought mate 10 pro, I also didnt know and have second thoughts about buying OPO 6 or M10pro. so at the end bought M10pro and so far can say the phone is ok but considering rooting installing TWRP and custom roms seems to be little complicated because, after reading xda, bunch of people have bricked they device. now I like to have rooted phone and installed custom rom, lineage os or Aosp extended, but that is not gona happen on this phone so if you like to have rooted phone and have custom roms buy OPO6 definitely, its not everyting in camera. PS emui is quite lagy some times and still needs improvement.
if it matters... the op5t has bluetooth issues with fitbit, not sure if op6 changed but likely issues remain
not sure if fitbit would make a difference, but who knows what other devices may or may not work well. op5t also has issues with car bluetooth, mate10 has none of the issues with the two devices.

usb3.1 iirc
I also bought the mate10pro, big mistake! It was on a pre 8.0.0.146 version with magisk and twrp running fine. Installed xposed, got a bootloop, did a erecovery rescue to factory emui 8, after that applied the latest ota to emui 9 which was the worst thing to do. Got the new bootloader and because the original was unlocked the phone bricked. Back to erecovery and no rescue... tried everything but no luck, so now it's worthless. It may have a very niche leica camera but that won't do any good if you can't recovery the phone. Huawei sucks in every way, just look at how they killed any development other than their own.
So now I ordered the OP 6 which has a very shiny development community, I won't have any worries about being stuck with another paperweight, and if I want a good camera I'll pickup my nikon fullframe dslr, no phone beats that.
I wouldnt go with Huawei if you rely on mods. No real custom rom beside openkirin. No real custom kernel. V4A not working, Dolby Atmos works only on oreo based custom roms. You dont get unlock code from Huawei anymore. You can grab your unlock code via paid services. Alone, when the partition oeminfo gets damaged and your bootloader is locked, your unlock code will not work, erecovery will not work etc DC could fix such bricks but now after the .b145 c432 firmware, they patched it. After B146 you cant downgrade. No real/outdated kernel sources. I recommend this device only for normal conusmers, who dont intend to root this phone. I left Samsung because of adding the knox warranty void string, now leaving Huawei because of the reason I told above.
Oneplus phones have very high SAR values... Be careful
Mate 10 (non-pro) would really last you 2-3yrs because amoled burn (it really is an issue) wouldn't affect you.
I have a mate 10 (non pro) I am trying to sell. Mint condition with the fancy smart flip case. I have a note 9 now so don't need it. Currently has an armorsuit clear skin on it.

are you lucky with your decision? I have a Mate 10 Pro and want to get a 1+6 or 1+6t and some personal feedback (accu for example) would be great.

Some years later, a reply. YES, I went to OP6 (I still have it working) and later to OP7pro (also still working) and now I'm on OP8 with AICP17.1 (android 12) fully loaded, rooted all working perfectly. Never regretted the change to OnePlus, excellent value for money and excellent support community, very recommendable for custom roms etc. If ever you brick it (happend a few times to me) you get your MSMtool out and bring it back to life in no time.
btw, my mate10pro was still within guarantee, so I sent it back to the seller, took a few months because they tried to recover it, didn't work and I got a full refund.

Which phone to buy?

Hi, Im using RN4 for a year now and I think its time to change it. My budget is limited to Mi A2 price range, maybe I could squeeze in for Mi 8 lite even. Ive considered Redmi Note 5, 6 but they dont seem that much of an upgrade. Ive read Mi A2 forum and users are complaining about Pie update, some clicking sounds coming from phone etc. While others are perfectly happy with it. I also like Android One. While Mi 8 Lite seems really high quality phone but it comes with Miui which im not fan of and hardly has any roms available. What do you think I should do? Btw I want good camera, never liked the front camera on RN4.

Mi9 vs mate 20 pro

Hi guys. I have mi9 64gb and it's very good phone in all categories but the 64gb fills too fast..
I'm thinking to switch to mate 20 pro (I had mate 10 pro for 6 months)
Is it worth?
What u recommend me to do?
Thx.
The power of the Mi 9 be with you
i had a mi9 too and compared with my mate 20 pro - no chance.
accu was down in less a day and the camera is overhyped - maybe with a good google camera port its possible to improve the quality but compared with the mate 20 - no chance
concerning the accu, i think i had a bad device, without sim card and without any connection, just in standby the phone lost 20% battery in 2 hours.
i selled the device because i can'f find the issue AND i'm a xiaomi fanboy.
sorry but i'm done with the mi9, the mi8 from my girlfriend is a super phone and just for my feelings - the camera of the mi8 is better as the mi9 (due to optical image stabilization)
since the mi9 was tested in dxomark and i had the chance to compare these two device i know dxomark is very very subjective.
I like Xiaomi phones and prefer MIUI to EMUI but in terms of hardware and camera quality Xiaomi doesn't have anything comparable to M20P yet.

If you are in rooting and stuff you will be disappointed with the mate 20 pro, bootloader unlock code costs money ranging from $20 to $50 may be more and that's only if the servers are up and running, like atm the service is dead.

If you're into that kind of thing it doesn't really make sense to buy Xiaomi or Huawei phones since neither company is developer friendly and there doesn't tend to be much development for either company's phones--and whatever development there is for Xiaomi phones tends to be for their Redmi devices since those sell in the largest numbers.
The XDA development threads for both the M20P and MI 9 are pretty empty.
Hardware mate 20 pro... Software mi9
So if u want a phone with a better camera, speakers, display, battery life, network strength etc then get a mate 20, it's even better than p30 pro (honestly this phone is wack and just a marketing and dishonest reviewers hype).
If u are one of the ones (like me) who just appreciate the software experience, animations, better themes then get anything else including mi9 ... Right now the Samsung oneUI is the best skin out there but miui is awesome as well

Upgrade to Android 10 or not?

I wan't to give my wife my old Mate 10 Pro because her Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T (or whatever) is a piece of crap. Huawei after 3 years have still better cam, speed and battery life.
I kept it on Emui 9 to keep root. Now I am thinking about upgrade to EMUI 10 and my question is is it worth it? Is camera app at least as good as in 9? Can you let me know your thoughts on EMUI 10? Thank you in advance.

try by yourself better Because some of users complained about the update because root not working,, you can't unlocked bootloader again,,, others complain about battery etc.. and others accepted... you can upgrade to EMUI 10 and use it for some times if you like it keep it,, if not you can downgrade to 9 again by hisuite,, for me i have mate 10 and I am ok with it smooth,, fast,, battery little better,, more options in settings,,
at last it depends on phone condition..
Stuck on Mate 9.1 on my BLA L29 C636. Tried HiSuite, HiCare region change but still cannot update to EMUI 10!
Did you have a method of upgrading?
[edit: used tunnelbear VPN along with hicare to set to Singapore and it updated]

Question Thoughts on Realme UI 3.0?

What are your thoughts on the device os? Do you think it is good overall and offers good performance and stability? Or would it be better to use a custom rom with it?
I am happy with the global rom, except for a few areas.
1. USB C to 3.5mm adapter is quiet, fixed with a command (need root)
2. Camera's autofocus is bad in some scenarios
The CN rom is filled with the worst kind of bloatware. Every app wants to track your usage, including the realme UI apps. If I remember it correctly, even calculator or some other most basic app requested permissions
Despite global Rom being cleaner, there were still a few bloatware apps that I had to remove like HeyTap Cloud or Quick Device Connect among others.
So to answer your question, stock Rom is good enough but needs a bit of tweaking.
I hope the eu rom is the same as the global rom, but to summarize, the stock rom is good if you can tweak it with root. Am I right?

Love it.
Iam ex-MIUI user, since 2017 (Redmi 4x, Redmi 5, Mi Mix 2, Mix 2s, Mi 8, Mi 9, Mi 10,...) , started with MIUI 7 or 8 global (i guess), later custom MIUIos roms (EU project, without bloatware, better optimization, different ram management, etc), and this is my first phone without MIUI. I was very worried, but for nothing.
I have EU non-root version, bloatware and google apps - done in 5 minutes without complications, OS is fast, pure, without bugs and any similar problems (team MIUI knows...), after month iam very satisfied.
Consider your use case and the budget. I just browse web and instant message 80% of the time.
Realme seems to be good with OTA updates although Global/EU versions get much slower rollout.
Hardware specs are great.
OS is good, and Global/EU ROM is the closest to stock Google experience.
The conclusion is that the hardware is not the limitation, so all the power is in the user hands.
If you want something that works just right out of the box and has greater community support with comparable specs, you'd probably have to look at Galaxy S22 at twice the price or others.
Other good contender is Realme GT Neo 3. Minor trade-offs here and there.
Or if you only care about camera, Realme 9 Pro+ could be a good option too.
All above have IMX766 camera sensor, same as GT 2 Pro.
If you are looking at GT 2 Pro, consider getting CN version and flashing Global.

Why should I get the cn version? If I recall I saw people getting issues when flashing it with global so I think that any version should be fine since with eu it's rootable through an exploit
CN came out much cheaper for me.
Flashing global works fine if the steps are followed carefully.

But if I got EU instead, it should be ok to leave it as is and use an exploit to root it no?

The exploit is only needed to unlock the bootloader. Once the bootloader is unlocked there's no difference between the various global models with regard to root.
