How to disable automatic system/ota update in Mi Box 3 - Android Stick & Console AMLogic based Computers

Hello, I am using xiaomi mi box 3 4k. After oreo update I am having huge problem with wifi connection. Now I trying replace it from the seller with android 6.0 and after that I will stick with that. But is there any way to disable automatic system update mi box 3 .

If you've got root access then delete the OTA update app.

You should first try to invoke system update from MiBox settings menu on the current device. Most all wifi issues have been resolved in recent months......
There is also a chance your router is one of the brands that has a disaffinity for the Xiaomi wifi/bluetooth chipset. In that case, another Xiaomi device will also fail unless you replace your router.
There is no such thing as unprompted automatic system update.
However, if you want to avoid the chance of a child, so, wife, roommate, gremlin or other unaware person initiating the update process, which requires 3 positive affirmed clicks on box, you can block the following location at your router/firewall.....
https://android.googleapis.com/packages/ota-api/
Good luck

WRONG.....
Not possible on either international Xiaomi MiBox model as admin access to system files is totally impossible since Nougat days.

Any update on this, I can edit a mi box 9.0 firmware then port and flash to my s905x based tv box, runs well but today got a notification about an official Mi Box Update, install fails as it's not using the mi box recovery ect... would like to disable the ota update as I'll create an update manually to install using Amlogoc USB Burn Tool, had a look is the build.prop and default.prop but no ota update url there, cant see an OTA update app either

Wouldn't it be possible to block Xiaomi update servers in hosts?

[GUIDE] Update/Join oreo beta testing for P10 via Firmware Finder app

NOTE 1: I DO NOT OWN THIS TUTORIAL, I JUST SHARE IT HERE IN ENGLISH BECAUSE PEOPLE MIGHT NEED IT. ORIGINAL: LINK.
NOTE 2: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU FAIL OR BRICK YOUR DEVICE, IT'S ALL UP TO YOU. IF YOU DECIDE TO CONTINUE THEN IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT IF YOU FAIL.
NOTE 3: THIS WORK ONLY WITH UPDATES FROM THE SAME BASE SO CHECK YOUR DEVICE.
Short note: Tested on my VTR-L29.
Short intro if you would like to read from my experience:
- Okay so there are many people complaining about B162 that is not updating apps via playstore so that kinda made me want to update my phone to the last B164 version. After a few minutes searching through the forums I found a tool to update my phone and I decided to try. I made all the steps and the phone rebooted and surprise: update has failed and also I got the beautiful 'your device has failed verification error'. Sounds scary,eh? Not at all because it did not affect my phone in any way but it pissed me off so I decided to browse even deeper and I found this tutorial which worked. I got it running with B164 and also got rid of that error. Life's fun, isn't it? lol
Tools you will need:
- Patience and coffee
- Your phone must be atleast 80% battery because it will take a while to finish the whole process
- Firmware Finder app ( you can download it from the playstore / apk from the web ..you choose )
Steps:
- Install the magic Firmware Finder app from playstore or your source
- Open it and you will notice three (3) bars on the left side of the app -> choose Settings
- Now you should see an option ' Use proxy for install ' -> activate the option and install the addon when it ask you to do it
- Return to the inital screen of the app and search for the latest firmware available ( for me it was B164 ). Make sure you use the full firmware. DO NOT USE OTA !
- Press on your firmware and choose ' get an update through proxy '
- Go to phone settings-> wifi -> long press your wifi network -> modify -> show advanced options -> proxy settings -> manual -> set the name as localhost and port as 8080 and then save.
- Go to settings -> updater -> check for new update. A new update should appear and it also should be the firmware you have chosed earlier in Firmware Finder app. Pay attention to the details so you won't screw things up. If the update matches with your firmware finder update package then proceed and press download.
- Once the download has started leave it till it gets ~5% and check for any errors . If everything works and is error free then you can pause the download.
- Remember I told you to pause the download? Well yea, you have to do it. Now go back to wifi settings @ your network, remove the proxy and save.
- Resume the update download
- When the download is finished the phone will verify the package and install it.
- Congrats mate, you did it !
I hope this will help people out with updates or failures.
I also got you a few screenshots that might clear things out.
Have fun using your P10 :highfive: .
09.01.2018 UPDATE FOR USERS THAT CAN JOIN THE OREO BETA BY COUNTRY USING FIRMWARE FINDER
Note 1: Your device might not boot. -> May lead to a factory reset using stock recovery. * it was not my case but it can happen*
Note 2: This might not work if your device was rebranded. Keep in mind that they use the IMEI to sign up for beta testing so your rebranded device might not be able to sign up for it.
Note 3: Do it at your own risk. Do not blame me if something goes wrong. This worked for me and a couple of people but it's not 100% sure that will work for anyone.
Note 4: Always backup your data!
We all know that they need B180 to get the beta access but even though I saw pictures of users that joined the program using B171. If you are using a higher version, as I did before (B179) there is no project available in beta app. Most of users are using B179 and B180 is not aproved because we are unlucky lol.
I managed to get a quick fix for that in order to join the beta that migh work for you aswell.
Follow these:
* you follow, you risk mate, not my fault if you mess up something*
1. Use Firmware Finder.
2. Set proxy to B164 (FullOTA-MF 2017.08.14) - do not forget to check for it..always check to be aproved mate!
3. Download and wait for it to install.
4. Boot the phone, clear all recent apps and get B171 via OTA ( NOT FIRMWARE FINDER, JUST CHECK FOR UPDATES ).
5. Download and wait for it to install x2 (B171 this time).
6. *If you already have the beta app installed, if not jump to next* Go to settings -> Beta app -> Clear all the data.
7. Sign in to huawei id (if not already).
8. Go to beta app and accept the conditions -> go to projects -> the beta project should be there, just sign up for it and wait for your request to be accepted!
9. Wait for further updates, since you are signed they might come.
10. *optional* Boot into stock recovery ( vol + and pwr ) and clear cache after the updates, that might help the phone to clear up some junk files used in the whole process.
I hope that this will help most of you that got into B179 before the beta testing.
Cheers :highfive:
Worsk perfectly on VTR-L09
I am happy to hear that !
Works great to bring VTR-L09C2B151 with Vodafone branding to 155. Thanks
will it work on rooted device? thanks
Might work if your recovery is stock. Not sure though, but your root will be gone after the update.
You can try but I can not confirm it will work.
Firmware Finder
I think you forgot to mention the "Check Firmware Access" if the firmware update is approve to install already, otherwise installation will fail after reboot. Also, I do download OTA only and not the full firmware package since I'm already in the latest version. Download full firmware package only if you're in much lower firmware version

I'm already on B166, and I just wanna download and install full package of B166 again because before I've just done a quick and not full update, will this work or will I brick my phone? Thanks.
And will it also work if I wanna downgrade my firmware? instead of update?

Thanks for swift reply.
Yes, I go to the Firmware Finder app and find the full update version I want, switch on the proxy inside app, change settings for WiFi (localhost 8080), go to settings, it tells me there's an update.
Checked the size of file - it's 2.8GB instead of 2.2GB. The button I press says "Quick Update" (blue button). It downloads the update. I get further than 5%, pause download, remove the WiFi proxy settings (localhost 8080), get 100% but...
...says it is unauthorised and will be deleted.
(EDIT: Screenshot added below)
For some reason I still think that there is something wrong with your package. I had no such issue with mine. I'm not sure what to do about exactly but you can try to ask for help in the original thread I provided in the main post.
Hi guys. So I have the the VNS-L31C432B391 and I want to upgrate the P9 Lite to B397. Can I do it without any problem?
I got the same error as @wickdaman with my P10 L09. Downloads the entire thing then fails to authenticate and deletes the update.
Before downloading the new firmware click on 'IMEI check'. This will tell you if the firmware is installable on your device.
None of the B171 above versions (witch is my current on VTR-L09B432) is suitable for the installation, checked with/without IMEI and by trying to install B179 for example that lead to the same outcome, install failed, downloaded firmware deleted. I think this issue has something to do with EMUI 5.1 ID safeguard that I tried to downgrade without success but anyway, any of versions with number below mine (B171) can be used and I have installed them successfully, B162 i think and after restart system checks for newer versions on its own and finds B171 and naturally I am back to beginning.
Sorry for my English, it's not my native language, I did the best I could. Hope this helps people.
Hello, newb here.
Will this get the updates directly from Huawei while skipping the provider? My provider (Fido aka Rogers) is horrible for bringing out updates and are full of bloat wear.

Checked VKY-L09 C432B177 update today. Allows me to download it now, although the model number has now changed to include a B at the beginning - BC432B177.
No idea if this is meant to be the same model number or if it's a locked network version or not. I'll find out soon and write an update.

I did find the answer to my problem is that FF doesn't support EMUI5+
If you are on EMUI4 or less it works, but something in EMUI5 breaks the ability to update in this manner.

Feedback after unlocking / flashing India ROM on sealed China ROM K20 Pro (8/256)

Hi guys,
Hope it's ok if I start this thread, I just wanted to give new users some feedback before/ after unlocking and flashing an India ROM on my sealed China ROM K20 Pro (8/256). It might be useful to some, or maybe even help others. Thanks a lot to Robbo.5000, Madsponge and Hursty UK (hope I got it right?) among others for their help and advice.
- [BUYING PROCESS] My trip with the K20 Pro started here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/k2...ice-to-buy-t3939616/post79918346#post79918346 (about 18 days to get it from China during high season, not too bad I guess). (FYI, the real Global version will come out in Europe in a few weeks but the 8/256 won't be available here.)
- [UNLOCKING PROCESS] I then started the "infamous" unlocking process which triggered the even more "infamous" unlocking wait time. Why did Xiaomi choose to do that? Pretty strange if you ask me. Why should you wait 5 days or more? Anyways, in my case it was almost 6 days. That part of the process went smoothly (I run a kinda old Windows 7 PC). I rebooted the phone and it was unlocked indeed. Then started the stressful process: flashing a +400 euros phone without knowing if it would actually work. Kinda reminded of the time when we "backuped" PS1 (PSX) games, haha.
- [FLASHING PROCESS] I used the official MiFlash tool, with the official India ROM (fastboot file, .TGZ extension). First problem : MiFlash couldn't install the drivers because a /log/ folder was missing, which I had to create manually (didn't see that mentioned on the forum, but might be my OS? Oh well). The rest was OK until I launched the flashing process and hit the "clean all" button (I carefully didn't choose the clean all and lock which would have bricked the phone).
>> Link to the official India ROM Fastboot .TGZ -> http://bigota.d.miui.com/V10.3.3.0....FKINXM_20190711.0000.00_9.0_in_a1c0a15dec.tgz
>> Link to the official MiFlash tool I used -> https://xiaomiflashtool.com/download/xiaomi-flash-tool-20181115
>> Use the official Xiaomi USB-C cable - do not try another USB cable
>> Important reminder: please change the default option in the flashing tool and DO NOT choose "clean all and lock". Change it to "clean all" only (you don't want to lock it as you might brick it - see posts below about this)
- [STRESSFUL REBOOT] The flashing process ran for about 10 minutes, said "error: Not catch checkpoint (\$fastboot -s .*lock)". Needless to say I was very stressed out at that point, especially with the not cool red message "error" on the right of the tool, in the column "result". I thought the phone was bricked...but no, it just rebooted normally with the India ROM on it. Honestly I don't know what happened, if it was normal or something but I didn't see anyone mentioning this.
Some feedback post flash: everything is fine, the phone seems even faster than on China ROM but it might be just an impression. I do not like the POCO launcher at all, when you're used for 4 years with the classic MIUI launcher it's honestly a pain, I like to see all installed apps on the home and next screens. I had an issue with my Mi Cloud backup (home screen): Mi Cloud said there was no backup even though I did one just before flashing. The rest of the sync process (except home screen - maybe because of POCO launcher?) was fine though: pics, notes, calls, messages, etc. Too bad we're missing NFC but it feels good to be back on "Global" (was coming from a Mi 8 Global phone). Oh yeah, missing the multiple shots option from the China ROM (where you can choose the "best" shot), but it will come to Global one day I guess.
- [MI CLOUD BACKUPS] I can confirm the Mi Cloud home screen backup issue described above is indeed because of the POCO launcher: my previous backups didn't have it (Mi 8 Global, K20 Pro China) and so Mi Cloud couldn't restore from those backups. I now have a POCO launcher backup (daily in Mi Cloud) and I can restore from those. So keep that in mind: if you come from non POCO you won't be able to restore home screen, but same thing if you move from POCO to a non POCO launcher. If you're not familiar with those backups, it's very practical (usually...) when you change phone because you just have to restore it and you'll have all your icons, apps and stuff like before.
[UPDATE] As you might know, a European Global version will be released in a few weeks, let's see if it has the POCO launcher or not.
Thanks again all for the help and let me know if you have more feedback.
Thank you for posting this - i am trying to get thru the steps too.
I too had Miflash tell me a file/folder was missing - after i created the /log folder it got past and said install was done (in chinese) and that log folder now has a txt matching what the window was searching for.
I tried pointing MiFlash to the folder with the ROM with a TGZ extension but it said 'couldn't find flash script'. After some reading apparently we have to extract it ? i did that ang got TAR - MiFlash still did not recognise and still gave me the same error message.
Any ideas?
Also, does it matter if Windows recognise the phone as a Phone? What's the USB connection type you set?

You need to fully unpack the ROM. It requires unzipping twice. You now need to extract everything from the tar file. After extracting the tar file you should have a folder with all the ROM image files and some .bat files. Point the Mi Flash Tool to this folder.
The phone needs to be booted into fastboot mode. The PC should recognise the phone automatically if it has all the correct drivers installed.
ive been using the indian rom for like 2-3 weeks now, my question is, does it support auto updater trough the updater? or we need to install back trough the mi flash tool
i failed multiple times to flash the global india rom before(using winzip to extract). and I tried again extract the files using winrar and it succeed. i'ved been using it almost 2 weeks now. the issue that i am facing is i cant use earphone mic on discord and whatsapp call. the rest is fine. for the updates, i get it from system app updater in settings.
OK - Managed to get the image folder recognised - the file path was too long - so i renamed it and moved it closer to where the miflash .exe was.
Now MiFlash is not detecting my device - when plugging in phone windows comes up with a 'USB device not recognised' message as well.
In Device Manager it says Unknown USB device (Invalid Configuration Descriptor) - I looked for Xiaomi usb drivers but Windows say i already have the best driver installed...
Any ideas?

I forgot to mention it, yes you do have to extract it (using WinRAR or similar) until you get an actual folder like Robbo.5000 said. I then renamed the rom's parent folder as "raphaelin" because another user mentioned we could have issues if the folder's name was too long.
About the USB connection i didnt change anything, i left it by default.

I'm guessing your phone is already in fastboot mode (with the little Mi cartoon guy)?
I installed ADB minimal, the MiFlash drivers but also ADB Lite drivers (mentioned in the big Madsponge thread where you can find the links). That might help.
In MiFlash when i hit Refresh it saw the phone as some ID like 1d23456 or something.
Just installed Qualcomm drivers - didn't help either...
set USB debugg mode - what was the USB connection type? if you remember - thanks in advance

I dont think there is an update since 10.3.3.0 but i guess we'll find out with the next OTA update. I read somewhere an automatic update might lock the phone back (and brick it) so i disabled them for now, until we know more...
Of course Chinese OTA was fine on the China ROM.

In fastboot mode you cant change it on the phone if i remember, and its set automatically in file transfer mode i think.
Yes I installed those drivers too. I might try a different laptop and usb cable tonight.
Thank you so far for your help.
FYI i used the USB cable shipped with the phone. As for the laptop, is its OS up to date? I installed the latest Windows update before the flashing process.
Hope its gonna work!

I own the Indian variant, stock rom, bootloader unlocked and rooted. Widevine L1 is still present.
So, I am curious. When you flashed the Indian ROM, did your Widevine level changed from L3 to L1?
If you didn't check, if you don't mind, please install "DRM Info" from playstore and let me know!
I am trying to find whether the Widevine is implemented based on Stock ROM level or its just at device variant level. Thanks in advance!

I just checked and it says I have L3. Honestly I don't really see a difference (if it's about Netflix HD or not), Netflix videos are still great quality.

Thanks mate. Just one more thing. Could you play "Test Patterns" - S1:E1 video, zoomed out for 2 mins, in Netflix app?
It will initially show "960x540" (right top corner of the screen in zoomed out mode), but after 2 mins, does it change to "1280x720" or still stays at "960x540"??
Again, thanks in advance!
Ok it was the USB cable - device was detected on original USB cable.
Flashed - BUT i made a mistake and had it default to Clean all and Lock !!! ugh...
Flash went thru - but now i am in some thing called Redmi-Recovery 3.0. Red message say "This MIUI version can't be installed on this device."
I can still get into Fastboot and MiFlash can still detect the device - Upon trying to reflash again MiFlash gives error 'Erase Boot Error'
So i think i am F-ed....
Any advice, anyone?
I think its only "soft bricked". Another user had a similar issue and created a thread below. Experts here will be able to help you for sure. If its locked i believe you have to reinstall the China stock ROM.
About Netflix it stays on 960, so no HD i guess...

Just download the china latest stock rom or china latest dev rom (recovery rom will be enough), no need of mi flash.
Then go to this link and follow the instructions. Since you can access the recovery, you are fine mate.
PS: Use the latest official Mi Assistant app from the MIUI site, not the one given in the link above. But the steps are the same.
Thanks guys I will try. Really worried that phone doesn’t shut down it keeps going into recovery (doesn’t power off) and charging doesn’t seem to work in all these conditions.
Will work quickly

There are 2 models...one is x01ad and another is x01bd .
I think you downloaded x01ad stock rom...that why it shows error...
Go to asus official website and select your phone model...and download latest firmware..
Downloaded firmware should be saved in internal storage and restart your phone .
After restart your phone automatically show new update in notification bar..
Try this method.. firstly
If any problem comes then reply me

There are 2 device brother one is X01bd and other x01bda. Updates are not installing in x01bda device and it fails by such msg
This package is for x01bd and this 'a'
Same problem is ongoing with me since more tha 10 months now. My device is X01BDA i.e. Max pro M2 ZB630KL . Before i was able to update manually from the official website but now not able to update. It shows same thing as this update is for x01bd device and i have a x01bda device.
I receive Fota updates but that fails too.
Even 2 different service centres could not help me.
In these months.
And during this i found out by myself that in my playstore under device certificate it shows device not certified.
Please help if anyone can atleast now.

Mate 10 Pro BLA-L29 C605 stuck on 8.0.0.137

This is a dual SIM model of the Mate 10 Pro. I would like to become more up to date, the last update I received was a security update from July last year. I do love this phone and would like to squeeze more life out of it. The software updater says I'm up to date even though there's quite a few later OTA's and Full firmware releases since the release I am running.
I have attempted using the latest Firmware Finder with the DNS change trick. Everything is green lights within Firmware Finder app, change DNS, attempt to download using the OTA checker in settings and no update is ever found.
I have also tried manually downloading both the full and OTA files and extracting the .app package file into the dload folder of a USB C thumb drive of both fat32 and exfat. The updater (holding volume up/down buttons) gets to 5% reading the thumb drives and fails.
I've played with some of the hisuite tricks and still having no luck. .
Anyone have any most-recent mothods that should work for upgrading my firmware?
Thanks a lot.
-Steve
Got it...
Turns out that I was not flashing a "service" rom which is not easily available from huawei's servers but instead found elsewhere like android filehost. Dload method only allows "service" firmware roms with the "dload" folder in the archive.
Running 9.1.0.300 C605E2R1P12 now.
Thanks guys.
Stevey I too am stuck at 8.0.0.137, what steps did you take to get upgraded??

[SOLVED] Downgrade from EMUI 10 to EMUI 9

Hello there!
I am running BLA-AL00 10.0.0.180(C00E181R1P4patch01).
Recently I wanted to downgrade to EMUI 9 to unlock the bootloader (I have the code) and here are my failed attempts:
1.Downgrade via dload with OTG
2.Use HiSuite 'System Repair', which popped up with 'No available fix for your device' (btw actually I managed to use this method before, but Huawei seems to block this)
3.Cheat HiSuite to downgrade with Firmware Finder's DNS update (see: link, ended up with ‘failed to install‘, I think this didn't passed verification)
So...are there any other possible ways to downgrade? Thanks a lot!

You don't need to "cheat" hisuite. Just launch hisuite, connect your phone via usb cable, and click on update button. Hisuite will scan for updates and there should be a tab saying previous versions. Just click on it and you should be able to downgrade. Using the dload method and "cheating" hisuite is a great example on how to brick your phone as thats how I managed to brick my huawei(still trying to unbrick). Also what Hisuite "System repair". I only know system recovery or are you referring to that?

Yes, I managed to downgrade via the normal method...
I thought it won't be OK to use this way... because I previously found the 'previous version' tab gone...(about one year ago)
And yes, I mean system recovery. My HiSuite is in Chinese so I just give it a direct translation lol.
Also I often use eRecovery to unbrick, maybe try it out? (I don't know whether international versions have this function or not...)
Problem solved! Thanks a lot!
Now my phone is running Lineage 18! Feeling great!
Can you please explain how did you do that ? I want to get rid of this emui

I got the lineage GSI rom from my friend, I actually doesn't know it's source, seems phh-treble.
NFC doesn't work, and this rom also has a potential storage problem. (actually I don't know whether it is caused by me or not) Just a week ago the rom broke my data partition and I have to reset. Now I have returned to EMUI. The rom is vanilla, and device model doesn't show probably. GAPPS can be installed via TWRP but device model, I tried, can't be modified without Magisk. The rom contains su as well.
If you truly want it, I can upload it to Gdrive. Now I want to downgrade to EMUI 8 and then I can use Openkirin roms, or search for another fit rom.
