Spen disconnected automatically - Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Questions & Answers

The SPEN is disconnected, even when it is in place (rear). The tablet does not recognize it.
I tried with the "reset SPEN" option, and factory reset.
SPEN is only recognized if I do some kind of pression. But doing this is very annoying when using it to take notes. Don't appear cursor, no write on screen
I think the problem could be caused by the design of both sensors, the tablet and the SPEN.
I´m use SM-T865 model
Is there a solution to this problem?
Thank you

Although I haven't heard of it affecting anything except writing on the screen with the S-pen, you might want to consider any possible magnets in your case, if you use one.

Hi.
I have a new spen, but the problem is on the tablet.
I have to press a point on the tablet so that the spen pointer appears on the screen, or for the spen to charge its battery.

Have you tried changing the S-pen's tip? I'm not sure if it would affect it charging, but I definitely had some weird issues interacting with the screen when my tip was faulty. One being that the cursor wasn't showing on the screen and the Spen was just scrolling pages constantly. Fixed it by replacing the tip.

Keyboard Dock thoughts

Just got the dock today and wanted to share a few thoughts..
kind of clunky to attach but may just take some getting used to. Once attached feels just like a netbook
Loving the keyboard shortcuts. There's even a key to take a screenshot!
Have been trying to figure out whether there's any need to touch the screen when docked. Only thing I see so far is unlocking the tablet. You can even scroll within widgets
Wondering if there will be any apps that will allow for remapping keys. (i.e. assigning a key to custom app or shortcut
The overall feel is very nice and compact. The piece that holds the tablet looks weird when it's closed though.
The whole thing fits inside my Gtablet sleeve perfectly.
All in all, worth the money IMO. I can't stand typing on a touch screen and I can see that this will be my primary method of typing on this thing.
Post edited to remove thumbs up. Not stable at all
2nd edit (5/11/11) back to thumbs up after updating to the beta dock firmware
awesome.. want mine now!

Have you encountered the glitches with the touchpad being activated and the keyboard suddenly not responding? a number of us have including me. Disabling the touch pad seems to prevent the disconnections but really annoying nonetheless.

I've experienced it as well. Hopefully the next update will correct the problem, since the touchpad functionality w/gestures is very nice (when it works).
BTW, how do you disable the touchpad???
not once. been using it all day, in and out of the dock

Fourth button on the top row of the dock, the one with a slash on a dock symbol. It doesn't solve the problem unfortunately, at least in my experience.

Thanks - unfortunately it doesn't help me either.
Where was you dock from?
What firmware does your dock have?
Oh great! Now I'm starting to have issues.
1st I noticed the I was missing all apps from my home sreen. Dock/Undock fixed it.
Then I notced a big time lag in my typing. No biggie still better than touchscreen.
Then while playing around in Gallery I lost dock. Dock/Undock fixed it.
Also, the wifi is beginning to intermittently turn off. hitting wifi button fixes.
Now the lag is more noticable. Typing with it now and the letters show up about 1/2 second later. Sucks cause I was just beginning to learn neat tricks with the dock. For example, I was using 2 fingers to scroll, but learned it's easier to just hold 1 finger still and use the other finger to scroll.
Hope there's firmware fix made available soon.

Thanks - I'm running the latest firmware as well for the tab. I'm assuming the dock firmware is what it shipped with (EP101-0207).
One other question: When the dock freaks out, does your battery status icon show a question mark over it?
No refresh button is a real bummer. I think this button is far more useful than say, the auto light button.
The backspace button is also really far for those of us who have smaller hands. But, this is something you can just get used to.
Does the hardware keyboard support languages other than English? Can you change the predictive input dictionary language and/or the keyboard layout?
Can you type, for example, German or Japanese on it? What about typographical symbols that don't have a dedicated key (like dashes)?
Delay, there are supposed to be regional keyboards available in the future.
I don't have mine yet, so I can't expound on detail regarding settings in the TF, but I doubt one will be able to simply change the language of the keyboard without changing the language setting of the whole OS. Also the keyboard will probably still output English characters.
Got my dock yesterday, and UPS just dropped off my TF a couple hours ago ( ).
Anyway, I just 'mated' the TF to the dock for the 1st time, and it did not sound good / did not go well. Didn't want to go down, and it seemed like it was getting hung up on something. I slid the latch over, and pulled the TF back out and a tiny little piece of black plastic fell onto the desk (very tiny... like 1mm x 1mm).
I finally got it to dock ok, but the little sliding latch isn't automatically sliding all the way to the right. It only goes about 1/2 way, then I have to sort of help it along to get it all the way over.
Anybody else had this problem? I'm wondering if I have a faulty dock.

Is it supposed to go all the way over? I've just assumed that it was designed to only go halfway. Now I'm really curious what other people's docks are doing.
Mine only goes halfway if my TF isn't clicking in completely to the dock. It does go all the way over as long as I push down and get both sides to click in.
I haven't had any problems with the dock yet, no problems with wifi, no problems with touchpad *knocks on wood*. I did experience some lag typing into forms, but no more so than with touchscreen keyboard on stock browser, so I don't think that was dock dependent.
The only issue I have with the dock is I don't believe there's a button to the multitasker. I want to be able to move between programs more easily while docked. I don't want to have to touch the "monitor" every time I want to multitask. Also, I need the touchpad to register pinch to zoom. I'm hoping these get updated soon.
Has anyone tried an SDXC (not SD) card in their dock yet?
Yes it is suppose to go all the way over. If it's not going all the way over for you, then the transformer is not COMPLETELY flush with the dock. Meaning that, when you close the transformer down with the dock it should be smooth all the way around.

This keyboard dock is quite abysmal as far typing quality goes

I don't know what it is but it seems be easily interfered by something. Whenever I'm typing just as I am doing right now writing this thread what happens is those two blue arrows pop-up midway while I'm writing up my sentence and the next thing I know my type cursor has jumped up two lines above and I'm writing over my previous text.
Then it's a trial to get the type character back at the end to continue typing. For some reason clicking at the end using the mouse cursor has no affect, the cursor will move right back to whatever area the cursor jumped to earlier. So I have to use the arrow keys to move it back into the right position.
Also, does anyone know a 'select all' keyboard command for Android OS? Oh it exists, but it does not work in the text box window as I'm typing this.
I can't be the only one frustrated with the extra and unneeded difficulty it is to type on this dock where it certainly feels like it could be easily remedied if ASUS done more testing with it.
It's because you're touching the mousepad while typing. Try to disable it, 4th button from the left, on the top row on the keyboard.

Nah, I'm only seeing this happen when I'm writing something big. A short line like this the problem doesn't occur. I try to key my thumbs up in the air so I don't touch the trackpad, cause lord knows I wish it did have a traditional 'mouse pad' instead. Maybe part of my hand is reaching over a bit, but I'm not seeing that as the cause. Typing on this thing just feel buggy.
and yes I'm running the latest ICS version. Got my dock on the same night ASUS pushed the 4.0.3 update.
Not experienced this on this keyboard but have experienced on other small sized boards. its always my chubby mitts getting in the way. palming the touch pad or accidental hitting arrow keys etc...
I was only thinking how well i could type on the board considering its size. Much prefer it to my old netbook keyboard.
I turned the pad into gesture mode and it doesn't seem to jump around as i could imagine it would, maybe try turning the sensitivity down, i had to do that as i found it impossible to control under the default settings.
otherwise my only gripe is that i cant work out how to change the hotkey apps, i.e. change the browser it loads
Just turn off the track pad while typing and you're all set. Problem solved.

There definitely is some kind of glitch when typing in a text input box a web page on ics. I see it on the tf prime as well as on my gnex. Sometimes you have to just accept where the cirsor has landed and delete and re type stuff. Grrr.
Wow something new comes up every day around here

+1 i have the same problems but I still love my dock regardless I got it mostly for the extra battery life when I am out and about
I get the same thing occasionally. I'll have to watch and see if I'm accidentally touching the trackpad. If not, I'll have to accept it as a quirk, because otherwise the dock is great for me.

Try...turning off trackpad for a while and see how it performs.
Seriously, even if you THINK you're not inadvertently hitting the touchpad, try turning it off. I get the same thing on my HP Envy 14, and I end up turning its touchpad off when I've typing longer copy as well.
Drives me crazy, and that freaking Envy has been on the market for two years now and they haven't fixed palm rejection yet.

I think that is further evidence supporting the hypothesis that you're probably touching the trackpad. When you're writing something long, chances are you don't consciously manage your thumb location the entire time as opposed to when you type something short.
So just as everyone else has said, manually turn off the trackpad.

no my hands are quite normal size.
but to end this thread.
it's indeed maybe the over sensitive trackpad, and I noticed the button on the keyboard dock to turn it off.
Still doesn't explain away the broken select all function, but I guess that's the faulty default browser.

Actually did you ever figure out why when you click somewhere the cursor doesn't follow? This has nothing to do with the keyboard dock and I find this to be the most annoying thing I end up having to arrow over to where I was to place the cursor.
Exactly

Coming from 7 months of TF101 use, I know damn well to shut the track pad off when I type. That changes exactly NOTHING. What happens with almost predictable regularity is the cursor, in these text boxes on XDA and other web sites, jumps all the way to the beginning of the text: Top left, in front of the quote, or whatever text is in the box.
I have not done enough typing in word docs etc, to know if it happens there, but I think the issue is prevalent to these text boxes... and it is annoying as hell. It did it in the last paragraph, halfway through the word "regularity wit the second part of the word ending up as the first characters in the box...
WTF!!!
Oh... and as jdbaker notes, you cannot just touch where you want the cursor to move to, with fingertip or mouse (unless youtry several times, but FIRST click into the box with finger, and... this requires toggling the trackpad on, and then off again after it does it's crappy job.
For what it's worth, I DO NOT think these issues are the fault of the Dock/Keyboard) or at least not entirely. It seems to be a poor implementation in the browser/ICS/Keyboard combo.
While I am *****ing, ICS Dictionary is crap. Ma - go read the rest up in the top left where the Cursor just jumped... AGAIN. That's the best way I can get you to share my pain, LOL! Ahem! As I was SAYING, the dictionary is sorely lacking in corrections, or ease of use. At these text sizes (yes, I know I can increase text size or zoom) it is very tricky to select the right correction consistently Sigh! Anyone notice it's hard to determine which letters the cursor is between, also?
It just needs work, these things ARE fixable. As soon as Asus gets all the BIG **** fixed, perhaps they can help with the small stuff, LOL! (Google could be fixing stuff as well)
If had no issues with the dock it kinda werid to type on but im geting use to it. But no one person is the same, so what works for me might not work for some.
I had the same problem, but as others suggested I turned off the trackpad and it was fine.
But it seems you are having a different problem correct? How is the typing otherwise, any lag? When I got my dock, there was an upgrade. This was post ICS.
Just throwing this out there, your pretty sharp I am sure you did all this...so I fail...lol..carry on
Sent from my Rooted Evo using Tapatalk
I've been using the tab all weekend, with the dock attached and had absolutely none of the problems you describe.
it's quick, it's crisp and accurate, the cursor doesn't stray and it can keep up with my typing speed (85wpm)
hate to say it but you might have a duff dock.

Is there a way to calibrate the s pen?

OK so I'm note sure if I got a bum s pen or what but its driving me nuts. It seems where ever I press it reads way off. Like if I use it to type for instance say I press the letter "L" the tablet registers it as and "O". Or if I'm drawing the lines are way off from where the tip of the pen is touching at least a few millimeters off which makes drawing almost impossible. Think I should exchange it? Just got it in the mail yesterday

I had the same issue like this one.
Try this:
If your auto rotation is enabled, disable it .. then enable it .. then try you rotate your phone from portrait to landscape > then rotate back to portrait then > Go to S-memo then draw a line .. the line should be fixed.
If you auto rotation is disabled, just enabled it, .. rotate phone to landscape .. then rotate back to portrait and try open s-memo .. draw a line and it should be fixed.
This is a freaking annoying bug. It happened to me 4x already.

I've called Samsung's mobile support line and was informed this was in fact normal (Because the demo unit they had did the same thing) and was designed to be slightly off so that you can watch as your draw.
I kid you not, these were her exact words. She also made it very clear that she was the highest level of support and it was basically her word against mine.
There are some what helpful threads on how to calibrate the s-pen, but it never seems to work (for me anyways).
I've found that holding the phone at about a 75 degree angle and using the S-Pen at slightly less than perpendicular to the display makes it extremely accurate. After drawing for a couple seconds it seems to auto-calibrate in that position. Trying some of the other calibration tips on the forum...sometimes they would work, sometimes they wouldn't. This one has worked every time for me.

[Q] s-pen not working water damage

I dropped my phone into the sink earlier today and then got it out. The phone was still working spen and all and then a few hours later the spen stopped working on some apps like Facebook and instagram and then stopped working all together. I have checked my note 10.1 spen and it is not working on my phone either. Any suggestions?I have tried checking other forms about this and none have seem to help.
UPDATE- I have completely took apart the phone and put back on my old cracked lcd and digitizer and the spen still does not work. I don't know what else it could be.?????

FIRST thing you do when your phone gets wet is turn it off and pull the battery!
Then you MUST dry it and confirm it is dry inside, some people soak it in dry rice for a few hours or something similar.
If you have any moisture in the phone and leave it on with the battery in it.... you WILL RUIN IT!
I would defiantly recommend doing this now before your phone suffers worse damage than just the S-Pen not working (its probably actually the digitizer for the S-Pen)

Thank you I have already taken the whole phone apart and did not find any water. It was in the water for so little time that the whole phone was not submerged because I saw it so quickly. Is the spen digitizer something I can replace?

I hate to say it but it sounds like you shorted something out in the circuit board.
I had a similar problem where my usb port became unresponsive after water damage.
Luckily a new one is like 11$
If I were you, I would buy a donor phone (cracked screen with clean esn) and swap circuit boards.
Then again, not using the spen sounds cheaper.

OK first the phone does not in any way "sense" when you touch the s-pen to it. The way it works is when the pen is close enough and the tip is pressed in, the phone senses that.
Anyone with a working pen can test this, hover the pen over the screen and use your finger to press the tip in.
Anyhow the first question is when the pen is close to the screen do you get the hover icon?
Second is does your phone s-pen work on your tablet?
2 minutes of my life I'm never getting back reading and typing this!!!!

2 things to check:
First check in setting>SPen and make sure that everything is on and correct in there.
--Pen detatch sound set as any sound and not off
--Air View on
Second insert and remove the SPen a few times from the phone and check if it makes the insert and remove sound.
If the settings are right, and you dont get a sound... there is a microswitch in the holster for the pen, its stuck.
Try disabling battery saving in settings>spen it should allow the digitizer to come on with the switch stuck.
If the settings are right and you do get a sound digitizer shorted out.
I wonder what happened with this...

Is the trackpad on the keyboard case complete trash or did I get a defected unit?

2 finger scroll seems to work 70% of the time. I have no clue what clicking the button does. Sometimes it behaves as a 'back', sometimes a 'home', sometimes a left click. Doesn't seem to work when you click and drag, cuz when i click down it moves the mouse due to the sensitivity. There is zero palm rejection so I had to turn off the '3 finger tap gesture' option, but it still seems to be wonky. I've updated to the latest s7+ firmware. Not sure if there is any keyboard case update.
This being my first keyboard case with a trackpad on android... this is kind of disappointing? Hope its just a defect in the keyboard case....
been using it for the last 48 hours. this thing is absolute trash. track pad is horrible. keyboard is too flimsy and doesnt really fit straight every time its closed up.
also not a fan of how the mouse pointer doesnt really go away when watching youtube or any other sort of video app
keys are nice and clicky tho.
I love the Keyboard. Immediately after first use a firmware update for the keyboard (so its not related to the S7 plus update) came in, that might have improved performance. I haven't found a way to check for keyboard firmware updates yet, let alone to install it, but you might need an update for better performance.

interesting. looked around and don't see a way to force that.
It's not the biggest deal overall, found a BT mouse in the house that just worked better regardless lol. Still a bit of a bummer. Glad I only paid like $60ish for this.
