screen DPI list for wide mode apps (seamless hinge segmentation) - LG G8X ThinQ Guides, News, & Discussion

Let's share the ideal number for screen DPI on each apps
Some apps like Microsoft Gmail Chrome work better in big tablet mode
Some apps like Solid Explorer, Gallery, Google Photos, YouTube comments, need better treatment to split half dual screen in correct calculation
Some games need a proper right fit controlling area
Third party Keyboards in landscape or portrait
Don't forget the hinge, dual notch, 8 rounded corners, dual different screen (v50), angled visibility (book handling/laptop standing mode)
Screen orientation also play a big role here

Wallpaper size

Hey all I am trying to design a wallpaper for my 80 g9 but don't what size to make it. I am using photoshop and don't know the right pixel amount to use. Thanks in advance
Took this straight from the Tech Specs page on the Archos website.
Display characteristics • 8”: 1024 x 768
Hope it helps!
On my Cobalt it crops the image to a 768x768 cross then enlarges it to a 1024x1024 cross so it should fit both portrait and landscape but it looks awful.
So it may be an idea to enlarge the canvas in Photoshop to 1024x1024, then set it as your wallpaper on the device so it is cropped without being resized
I've done some experimenting.
The best results are to use photoshop to add a large border around the image you want, basically set the canvas size to twice the current dimensions or more, this will reduce the amount of resizing the tablet does when you crop.
Now, with the mask that the wallpaper crop tool gives you, even though the landscape section is in the middle, it is wrong, the top of the landscape section is actually the top of the outer rectangle, so the top most line of the rectangle will be the top most line of the final cropped image.

[Q] tablet z resolution

Hi,
what's the optimal resolution for tablet z when viewing photos ?
I know the screen is 1920x1200, but to fit the home, return, and multitask icons it's going to be less.
I want to know what to crop my horizontal and vertical photos to..
thx, Roland

The display is best used to show full resolution photos, but obviously cropping to 1920x1120 is what you want to do if you want to fit it exactly. For wallpapers refer to your ither thread, its been answered.

[MOD][XPOSED] XAspect - adjust aspect ratio

Occasionally an app displays content in the wrong aspect ratio. For instance, the SuperFilm.pl app stretches movies to fit the screen regardless of the movie's original aspect ratios and the Little Big Adventure port stretches the 4:3 video of the original game to whatever your device screen is.
XAspect lets you force a particular aspect setting for an app. A number of common aspect ratios are included, and one can also set a custom one.
This is beta test quality software, so use at your own risk.

I just posted an update with custom aspect ratio support.
Works great. Fixes ScummVm. Thanks for putting in the work.
Glad to hear it! I suspect some developers think it's more important to fill the screen than to preserve aspect ratio, and that's why my module was needed.
The scummvm docs say there is an option to preserve adjust ratio.
Nice module!!

The search for the best DPI setting for games and everyday use?

For those who don't know you can change DPI in the dev menu under "Minimum Width" (not taking any responsibility if you mess something up lol there is a reason it is hidden in the dev menu). The default is 411.
So far I have tried 10 different settings but due to the aspect ratio of the screen I cannot find the perfect DPI for games but also for everyday use. Not a fan of changing DPI just to play a game when I have a few minutes to kill. Any one have better luck?
Mine is currently at 441 (which means it must have adjusted itself from the 440 I set it to), and I think it's pretty good for daily use.
Can't really speak for games though.
Yep I'm using 480 at the moment and games seem to fit great but some apps don't like it
I've had mine set to 530 (it defaults to 533 after exiting settings for some reason) for a while. I found that setting it to anything above 550 results in a misaligned finger register where taking one place registers about 4mm above it. As much as I'd love to set it to 570, doing so results in this misalignment.
I haven't noticed any issues with 530. Only thing that messes up is Samsung's keyboard, but I use the AOSP Android L keyboard with the symbols.
Could you please post images of these gaming issues you are referring to?

Display shrink problem

I am including a video link from my google photos Video
Here you can see the display corners and the notch is expanding and shrinking very little after applying a theme or by doing anything related to display overlay such as night mode from developer option! Are you facing the same? If so then it is a bug and we can get a bit bigger screen real-estate!

Yeah I've also noticed it when changing the dpi.
Maybe they've done it for cosmetic purposes. So that the curves are nicer maybe?

Seems like they are after curves but not screen real estate! even the notch will look smaller, Sad
