Phone is very slippery - Moto Z3 Play Accessories

has anyone figured out if there's a way to make this phone less slippery? I tried a bumper case, threw that away since it bulges in front of screen next to fingerprint sensor, I bought the battery back, it's a little more grippy but I'd like to use it without the battery back

Get a skin... It is pretty slippery lol

nice job. I did the same thing with my resound and it worked great. now it's sitting on the shelf since getting the N3 :good:
So basically all you have to do is dremel out the back of the otterbox? I am using a zero lemon but it is a bit too bulky for me. Thinking about going this route if it is a viable option.
Does the battery bulge out at all on the rubber?
I'm also interested in hearing how much extra bulge this gives. I want to get a ZeroLemon but the case is like a puff pastry compared to the sleekness of the OtterBox. Plus that Max-5 has got me itching to mod the ZL into the OB just wondering how much tug the Hyperion gives on the silicone and if you think there would be enough play to fit a Zl in there. I was thinking maybe of shaving down some of the silicon a little since the camo OtterBoxes have a hard plastic print for the design so thinning the rubber behind it wouldn't be too much of a drawback in durability in my opinion. I just don't know if it would give it enough extra space to make the bulge less noticeable. If ZeroLemon is going to get into these rugged cases then hopefully they can slim them down in certain spots so it doesn't look like a bar of soap lol
The Zero Lemon uses some really cheap and hard rubber in comparison to the otter box case. I had a friend custom cut the back of the otterbox for me. I'm just waiting on the Anker battery. He did a really phenomenal job and I'll keep anyone here posted on how it fits.
Here we go... This is the best mod ever, lol. Good bye Zerolemon! The Otterbox is a WAYYYYYY nicer case.
Shout out to Greg for modding the case and making this all possible and thanks to OP for the idea.

Fits great. It has a little bit of a bulge, but nothing anyone would notice unless you said something. It still sits flat on table surface.
Zero lemon will not fit no matter what you do with it. The ZL battery is way too large for any type of modification to work. The rubber won't even wrap around the phone with the battery in.

That's a shame. Seems like they really slimmed down the design with the Note 3 it looks half as thick as I expected it to be. My S3 struggled with the ZL as well though it did fit against all physics. I eventually modded it fully so the rubber laid flat as if the ZL wasn't there. Figured I would give it a shot with the Note 3 OtterBox but not for $70 just yet. The ZL case wouldn't be bad if more time was given to them to slim and refine the design.
The ZL battery seems like its larger than it has to be.. The Anker/Hyperion batteries are rather small and are 6400mah. The ZL is just ridiculously huge.

Yea it really is just gigantic. I just don't know what route I would take. I have seen a lot of impressive battery life out of the Anker/Hyperion batteries that was as good as my S3 with a ZL on it was so if I can get that level of life out of it then I'll just go that route. Saves some weight and bulk. What's nice about the otterbox's is they're easy to stealth the larger batteries. Just run the front plastic piece down with a sander and do the same with the rubber where the battery will go (camo cases exclusively since the camo part is like a hard plastic material, and bam you have original OtterBox thickness with double the battery.

The ZL case is just irritating. It's got this cheap feeling rubber and the buttons are extremely difficult to press. The new defenders feel a lot better than the ones I've owned in the past. This is without a doubt the best defender yet. The rubber is extremely pliable and gives the best button response i've ever felt on a case.

That's good to hear. I keep flip flopping because I keep looking at the ZeroLemon with it's absurd capacity which would be great for me and then I keep thinking about how badly I would just prefer to have an OtterBox but it's $40 more said and done which makes me just rather want to save the money, sacrifice a little quality, and focus on the whole purpose of just getting more battery capacity. I think I will just get the ZL, love it or hate it for a while then switch over to an OtterBox/6400mah combo later if I am not satisfied. I know I can slim the OtterBox to the point where the ZL will fit. Those cases have been flexible enough for me to do it before. It's just way more involved than simply cutting a hole in the back so that's why I don't think anyone's done it. That and the cost to do so is pretty high since they aren't selling just the batteries yet.

Well aware of that but like I said the mod I do isn't a simple "cut hole here and go". I have given the N3 OtterBox 1.5mm (guesstimate) of extra depth on a friends broken case and when I get my ZeroLemon in I will test fit and see how it works. As is the case gives a lot of room for a bigger battery. The anker will fit flush and flat as if it wasn't even there and I don't see any issues at all with fitting a ZeroLemon but time will tell. The more I use this thing the more I think maybe I'll be more satisfied with just an Anker and Otterbox. The battery life is already pretty good. I guess my final judgement will be with the quality of the ZeroLemon case and it's heft. I promise to fit a ZeroLemon into a Note 3 OtterBox though for sure. When I get bored of the ZL case I will do so with a full boat write up.

Looking for Glass screen protector suggestion or even a normal one if that is better

Since owners have had the phone a for a bit longer now, I would like some feedback on those screen protector choices you have made.
Basically what I want is the common things:
*As invisible as possible.
*Smooth feeling to the touch is preferred.
*easy to apply is a plus
*I prefer to not remove the sony one already there.
So I was looking at M.glass, other ebay glass ones and then my usual choices like Zagg HD the case friendly version for the plasticky ones.
So what is working out for you guys?
I bought one off of ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/261323055474?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649. It feels nice when you put it on. I got something stuck under it though so if you are installing one make sure your phone is perfectly clean. I like the feel of it better than the normal screen. It was hard to install well for me but probably not as hard as I made it out to be. I had it perfect but removed it to get the thing from under it out and that is where things went wrong.
Thats my problem too when installing myself..always some dust gets in somehow. I am thinking on trying to install inside the bath tub or something after running the how water for like 10 minutes to see if that helps...seriously lol

i have the Armorz Stealth Extreme R on mine. a bit on the pricey side but i love it. I also have one of the ebay ones for the back glass. both were put on over the stock sony screen protectors. on the back piece, i actually soaked the back of the screen with a spray bottle before applying it. It was a pain in the ass pressing out all the bubbles, but it looks flawless after a bit of elbow grease.
I have Glass-M front+back for mine and I absolutely love it. (Removed factory ASF as well). My notes
* It is really smooth. Like freshly made toffee it is so smooth it feels faintly greasy (but it is not). On an almost completely flat table the phone will slowly slide across the surface by itself due to a slope you can't see (be careful)
* I believe touch sensitivity is improved. Finicky DPI sliders in Paranoid Android setups give me no trouble now - before jumping 239,243,241 when I really want 240 dpi exactly. Pencil also works perfectly as a stylus.
* I believe screen brightness and clarity are improved. Subjective and probably due to removal of the ASF (and its invisible tiny scratches)
* Extra glass makes the phone a bit thicker but also much stiffer and I liked this. I also have a Z1 and I miss how solid that phone felt in my hand. Ultra always felt a bit too flimsy (bendy). I also had to widen the slot on my DK30 (sandpaper glued to a flat stick aka big emory board)
* Getting alignment correct is tricky - glass-M slightly smaller than the phone screen edges. Mine went on crooked but I can live with that.
* No dust or bubbles in mine. Used the shower trick of old school film photographers. Long hot steamy shower will effectively clean the room of even tiny dust particles.
* Removing the ASF is a truly harrowing experience (see the other thread). Halfway through you *will* have an "Oh God what have I done" moment. Still totally worth it.
Hope my ramble helps someone. In summary really happy with the Glass-M. :good:

Haha yeah I took it off and it made it way worse... ended up being a waste of money which has been happening a lot since my phone had been sent back for repair. I have wasted so much money. But yeah I bought another one and got it a couple of days ago but have not opened it. I will install it right when my phone gets back.
So when you guys go dual glass (front and back I mean) do you just carry it without a case? I mean, when I remove mine from the case it just feels SOOOO good to hold, like the case makes it feel not as ergonomic even though you will think is just one flat object

Glass-M Front+Back and I carry mine "au naturel". Four weeks of sliding in and out of pocket + keys, coins, cig. lighter etc with no marring or scratches. Seriously it feels way better in my hand than the factory finish: smoother, bit thicker (2x 0.25mm glass + adhesives is a lot on a 6.5mm phone), and far more solid. Absolutely love its handling after placing the extra glass.
Downsides are metal sides will eventually pick up scratches and dents and also I don't like the proximity sensor cutout: messes with the Sony design and makes it look like everybody else's iPhone/Samsung/whatever with slots cut into the front of the phone. I don't believe the cutout is necessary for that sensor to work. (could be wrong about that)

Well I got too many cases already on the way but they will live in the car to be used when required, but for the most part I love the feel of it naked....and we are still talking about phones just before someone locks the thread
Does the glass go all the way to the edges of the phone? Like if I use one of those cases that go just above the screen (if those will even fit which I doubt) will it make the glass come off?
I guess I should just not use a case but gosh I bought a couple of nice ones already LOL

Well, I guess I use it without a case at home and at work right now anyway since with my case it wont fit on the DK30 but still, if I were to use a single cable, that case wouldnt let me charge.

yeah maybe I bought cases for decoration now LOL We shall see.
I just thought of one possible issue if I get the Glass-M vs getting a single one for the screen only....I want to get one of those extended batteries case combinations.
So if I get that, I am pretty sure it wont fit with the Glass-M but maybe it will fit if I only get one glass for the front?
I'm getting my glass-m protectors today. I'll post my opinion tomorrow some time

Got my Glass-M protector yesterday put it on this morning. It works great. Its' pretty comparable to the spigen tr I had on my S4 maybe a littler thinner. It includes the front and back glass protectors, rear camera cutout was perfect. The front appears to cover the camera. There is a cutout for something to the left of the camera but I'm not really sure why. Maybe I am misunderstanding the layout? Luckily it laid down well enough that its not causing any distortiong.
It actually feels nicer and seems more fingerprint resistant than the stock bare screen with its ASF film. It's an expensive kit but considering both front and rear protectors are glass it seems like its worth the money to me.
Shipping was also really fast considering it came from hong kong....about 5 days.
So I ended up trying this glass one:
Protector
The feeling and quality of the image is so pristine compared to my previous regular plastic like protector!
I did have to sand paper the DK30 a bit to make it fit but all is good. I still can use all my cases if needed and I left the plastic protector for the back part.
So overall, I think I will keep this one because with the dual Glass M ones, I dont think my cases will work nor the Charging case combo I want.
With the size of this phone and the Explosion proof glass...I feel like Captain America now

[Q] Minimal Case w/Flat Back?

Currently I have a Diztronic TPU case and it's great except for the fact the the back is curved like the phone.
I often use my phone with it sitting on my desk. It's a bit of an inconvenience with it rocking back and forth.
Are there any minimal (TPU) cases that have a flat back?
Thanks

The Ringke Fusion is not flat in the back, but it does have a groove in the middle so the phone doesn't rock back and forth. But actually using the phone while it's lay flat will cause it to wobble a bit.
Actually this is one of the biggest design flaws with the phone for me, and it's 'slipperiness'. How can you build such a thing? It lives and dies for me with the feeling I'll experience while holding it. The N5 was flawless in this way.
There's this thing, which would appear to even out the curve of the back so it can sit flat on a surface without rocking.

I've been using one of these for a month now and I love it. It's not "minimalist" but it's very well made, grippy (which is very important to me), gives great protection with an excellent fit and its FLAT on the back. Also very light weight for all of the protection it gives. Came with a holster which I threw away, it still fits in my back pocket just fine.

Looks like it shares a similar design to Spigen's Ultra Hybrid buttons. I don't recommend these buttons, very difficult to realize what button your hand is being placed on unless you count which can be annoying rather than having the buttons separated from each other.

Thanks! Ordered one of the Evocel cases, $11 shipped with tax via Prime.
10-minute use review:
It's properly flat, sits flat on desk and does not rock at all when I type.
Back texture is almost smooth but not "slimy" like my previous Spigen Ultra Hybrid. No matter how clean your hands are, your fingers naturally produce oil that interacts in a very gross way with perfectly smooth plastic cases...this one is textured enough to not be annoying. It's not as soft-touch/grippy as the back of a Spigen NEO Hybrid though
Has reasonable friction to prevent it from sliding off a desk. The stock N6 or N6 in Ultra Hybrid case were terrible in this regard. It's a plastic back though, not a soft-touch material, so it will slide.
The back is very thick, material thickness is much thicker than Spigen Ultra Hybrid. It *substantially* increases the size of the phone, both due to its thickness and the obvious geometry change needed to make the back flat. The normal curved shape of the N6 is very helpful for making it pocketable, I'll have to see over time whether the flat back is worth the increased bulk.
Phone feels very secure in the case, was difficult to remove.

This looks like a winner for me. Besides not being able to tell what button you're hitting, it brings me back to the Spigen Neo Hybrid which I really liked. The one they made for the N6 looks really nice too with the metallic buttons, but they left the back curved. I will give this a try for sure.
Thanks!

2500 mah extended battery with Neo spigen case

Neo Spigen hybrid case is probably the best case for the extended battery. The added extra (barely noticebale) weight and thickness makes the phone better to hold in my opionion. It remeinds me of the 2013 motox where when you hold on it, it feels nice on your palm.
Did you notice that the phone with the extended battery even without the spigen case feels a lot comfortable to hold with that extra weight?

Yes even without case it feels much better in the hands. With regular battery its too light like a paper, and I feel like I will drop it anytime.
I think its because the extra thickness gives you more traction, on sits perfctly on your palm. Unlike where the original one, your hand/ finger placment is only on the metal side which is really slippery.
I have same configuration for about 3 months now work perfect

Thin yet protective cases for the s8?

Hi, I will be buying my S8 very soon and am having trouble picking out a good case for it. The most important aspect of this case is that it is not very wide because the width of the s8 is pretty much the perfect size for me. However, most thin cases I find don't offer much protection, especially for face-down drops. I had this same problem with my S7 edge and really dislike the size of my current case. Do you guys have any suggestions?

NB, also tried quite a few screen protectors. Taken all of them off within 5 minutes.
Apart from this one, works with that case really well.
Wings tuck under the case round the curved edges.
Not perfect, but good.

I'm using the Tech 21 Evo Check. The transparent black looks great on my black s8+, plus it adds decent protection without making it any bulkier.
I'm using Spigen's Neo Hybrid cover and it feels very sturdy, yet slim.

+1. I got the black on shiny black and it looks like one whole phone.

Similarly, I got the Gunmetal with Orchid Grey and it looks incredible. Not one whole piece like Black, but the metal color really goes with the ambiguous Grey.

I am using same, dropped phone 3 times, approx 1 to 1.5ft landed on screen at least once, The case small lip on screen top and bottom kept the drop from affecting the screen.
I will be getting a glass screen soon but impressed with this case, recommend 100%
Hey, I have a couple of suggestions depending on the power consumption of the user. If you are satisfied with the original power capacity of the battery I recommend the Spigen's Neo Hybrid. I have it on a normal day and it is great. If you are the power user I recommend the I-blades smart case. It is quite slim and Military Drop certified. It has snapping modules that I hope many more in the future
I have the Spigen thin fit case for three days. The finish is really sub par this time. Mist Spigen cases I had where great, but in this one the grippy finish already starts to peel off. Not a major problem, but I have black flakes all over my hands now and then.
The neo hybrid, as always, takes some usage to get grippy. Out of the box it's a bit slippery...
