[Help] Whatsapp videopreview black screen with audio - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I have a Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F) with Kernel 3.18.91. and Android 8.0. The phone was rooted just recently with the latest version of magisk.
I am not quite the expert, but I will try my best to describe the issue.
Basically after I rooted this phone, I started noticing that I could no longer play back videos in Whatsapp before I send them (the preview window where you can edit it before sending it).
All it does now is play back the audio and show a black screen. It doesn't crash or anything, the content of the video is just not being played except the audio.
Video playback is completely fine in the stock gallery app and everywhere else.
I already reinstalled Whatsapp and restarted my Phone
I have the following modules for magisk installed:
Busybox 1.31.1
debloater 17.3.3
Viper4Android FX 2.7.1
Samsung 4K60 Camera Mod 7.6.86
I also removed some of the bloating software with the terminal, but upon noticing this issue I decided to revert some of the changes. I do not know if this issue persisted beforehand. I was thinking that I might have deleted something here that was important for its functionality, but then the stock player wouldnt work either right?
I would rather not do a factory reset to fix this, if possible. However, if there is no other possibilty is there a way to backup all my modules and settings?
Here is what I tried:
reinstall Whatsapp multiple times
restart the phone
revert some of the changes in the debloater terminal
deactivate HW overlay
My guess is that I deleted something in the terminal that was important, is there a way to know for sure?
I hope someone can give me some hints as to what this problem is about. I will make sure to add screenshots of the list EDIT: need 10 posts to send links so I will just do it manually.
list of removed apps:
Basic Daydreams
Skype
tuiService
VoiceAssistant
upsmtheme
gearmanagerstub
samsung galaxy friends
language packs
galaxy essential widgets
Gear VR Service
S voice
Samsung gear, account, billing, cloud
EDIT 2: I found a temporary fix by enabling force GPU rendering in the system settings, I double checked by enabling the refresh indicator and previewing a video. Once I disable this option, video preview no longer works again. Question now is, if there is a way for me to exclusively enable this for whatsapp to save battery life

Just switch rendering by gpu in develop opp
Manny thanks buddy its works
Tomas

How to Enable Force GPU Rendering:
First of all "THANKYOU" for the solution of error. May GOD Bless You
1. Go to Settings and scroll all the way down to the bottom.
2. If you don't see the option, tap on About phone (About device) and look for an entry called Build Number.
3. Tap on Build number 7 times until you get a message saying “You are now a developer“.
4. Find Force GPU Rendering option and enable it.
Request for prayers.

same issue here with my Galaxy S7 EDGE in whatsapp i factory reseted reinstalled whatsapp but still same issue any help?

Having the same issue here with my s7 edge too i haven't rooted or done anything to it. Its a tmobile version.. Before it was blank screen with sound.. Noe there is no sound at all.. Any solution please

Seems to be a general bug for some devices...
Force GPU rendering and clearing my cache didn't fix it for me, however, I was able to get around the black screen by hitting the "Add files" icon, and immediately hitting "OK" without adding any additional files. Video preview renders fine after doing this each and every time. It's a hassle but it works for me. Hope this helps someone.
In case this is an entirely different bug, the file's audio still plays for me when I tap the black screen on my Google Pixel 3.

Thank you so much i have been dealing with this in my samsung s7 too for a long time and i fixed it with an old version of whatsapp, until today that i couldn´t use it anymore because it was too old. This is the first site that i have seen a real solution to this problem. Thanks againn!!

It worked
I enable developer and force gpu rendering and I can now preview videos before uploading on whatsapp. I've been having this issue from the time I got my phone and now it works fine thanks guys

[Solved] [Magisk Module] [Oreo Update] Spoofing "Daydream ready device" on a Nexus 6P
TL;DR Skip to the last paragraph!
Daydream runs pretty nice on my n6p. sucks to sideload all apps also not all apps can be found on google. so i wanted play store to recognize my device as "daydream ready" and let me download all daydream apps. a little googleing later i found 2 reddits explaining what to do and saying "it works" in the comments.
https://www.reddit.com/r/oneplus/co...got_daydream_working_on_a_oneplus33t/dbmy2it/ creating 2 new files in /system/etc/permissions/
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/5hno6u/got_daydream_to_work_on_my_5x_might_work_on_other/ put the 2 feature tags in handheld_core_hardware.xml
none of those worked. i could start sideloaded daydream apps before this. updating/downloading from play store is my issue.
things i didnt try yet:
- a clean flash of the rom then change the permission files in twrp adb then reboot.
- putting the feature tags in 2 seperate files AND in handheld_core_hardware.xml
- https://android.googlesource.com/pl.../etc/android.hardware.vr.high_performance.xml has the <feature name="android.software.vr.mode" /> and the high performance mode tag in it. didnt try that 2 tags in one file way yet.
anybody got this to work yet? if so pls share
EDIT: i made a magisk v10 module changing the build.prop. if anyone wants to do it this way feel free to dl the attached module.zip. just downloaded some previously "incompatible" apps. idk what happens if u install it on a device that is not daydream-compatible. n6p is the dev device so it is compat but not daydream-ready. as every dev i take no responsibility for anything. u flash this at ur own risk. that it requires magisk to be installed and working is self-explainatory. just ignore the "wrong vendor.img" warning that pops up on booting.
UPDATE: magisk module disabling bug fixed since some versions ago.
V1.1 : quick and dirty commented out out manufacuturer line and zipped it again. still v10/11 magisk template but it works. just tested. template didnt change much anyway to v12 i think.
DaydreamBypass.zip : version for oreo by @tazzkiller
Here you go::
1) Get a build.prop editor out of the play store once you have acquired root access.
2) Locate the following strings of texts and change what is written there to "marlin", without the quotes.
ro.build.product
ro.product.device
ro.product.board
ro.product.name
3) Locate the following strings of texts and change what is written there to "Google", without the quotes.
ro.product.manufacturer
4) Locate the following string of text to "Pixel XL", without the quotes.
ro.product.model
5) Locate the following string of text and change what is written there to "google/marlin/marlin:7.1/NDE63L/3273814:user/release-keys" without the quotes.
ro.build.fingerprint
The last part might not be the proper string of text but I am doing this off of memory. Just look for the text that looks like the above and swap it out. After you do this, reboot your device. You will get an error message or two upon booting up and the first boot may take longer than normal but it works. I've personally done it with my 6P to get proper Daydream store games because I wanted to play Gunjack and ArcSlinger. Your build.prop editor should save the original build.prop as a build.prop.bak. When you are done installing your new games, simply change the new build.prop to build.prop.bak1, and the original back to a build.prop
The only bugs I have noticed with this are that during the first 24 hours after doing this I continually got an overheating message while in daydream even when the device wasn't hot. I don't know if time played a factor or multiple reboots but eventually the message stopped popping up. Let me know if it works for you.

oh so its build.prop not permissions. or do i need those too?
will make me a magisk module for the build.prop mods tomorrow or so. and tell u how it worked out. u dont recommend keeping the changed build.prop?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA Labs
All I did is unlock my bootloader, root my phone, and edit the build.prop. I would keep both build.props. It makes it so you can easily switch to the Pixel XL settings to download and install new games, and then load the original 6P ones again after you are done. Editing the build.prop like above had Google email me a welcome to the Pixel family email, too lol.
But I have 100% working daydream and store access just by doing what I listed above.

I'm on a Nexus 5X and I'm on Pixel ROM, but I've heard keeping that build.prop change is fine. It doesn't affect Nexus as our OTAs and Stock apps don't need it. It'll just give you access to the Pixel specific apps
My experience on Sony Xperia Z1 says that you need to clear data of Google Play Service and Google Play Store after you modify the XMLs in system. I guess that by doing this, your device will be updated as a "Daydream ready phone" in Google's database.
By the way, Xperia Z1's Daydream doesn't work on AOSP 7.1.1. It crashes. Anyway, after I cleaned the data of those two apps, I can download apps like Daydream, Google VR Service, Daydream Keyboard, etc. from Google Play.
UPDATE:
apparently the build.prop modifications crash google camera (latest purenexus). fc upon opening the app.
also various daydream apps (twilight pioneers, vr karts sprint, etc) report "phone overheating" quite fast and force you to "cool the phone" with a "take it out of the headset and close the app" vr screen.
interstingly disabling the magisk module in magisk manager wasnt enough. build.prop was still set to the pixel xl values. uninstalling my module restored original build.prop.
no "wrong vendor.img" warning, google camera works, i still get "performance reduced. phone overheating." overlay warnings while playing daydream games but no force cool off time.
so i just install the module again once a week to check for updates on daydream apps and then uninstall it again.
anybody figured out how to disable the kinda annoying "overheating" warning while playing? ^^

About the build.prop, don't change manufacturer. That messes up the camera. Allot.
I'm really interested in making my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge "Daydream-compatible". I don't even have a Daydream headset, just the regular Gear VR. I really wish that Google would just make a Youtube VR app for Gear VR--it's the only reason why I'd like to give Daydream a try. If you want me to test anything, please let me know!

since it requires the actual daydream headset to activate daydream mode im afraid i cant help you. besides the youtube vr app is optimized for the daydream controller. making it work with the gear vr headset buttons or the gear vr controller would require some rewriting of the yt vr app.

What? give us a little more than a few random words pls. ur post makes like no sense sry to day that.
ALSO: changed the module to NOT alter manufacturer. i still wouldnt recommend having the module always running. just tested it. still can dl all daydream apps while module is active. module disabling works now with magisk yay. new version in first post.

How to get past this screen?
Not able to proceed even if I enter my credentials.
Will this work for leeco lemax2?
Guys don't bother. I got Daydream running on my Moto X Style and virtually all of the 3rd party apps don't work. They either crash on launch or are in full screen 2d mode and not split screen 3d mode. Only the Google made Daydream apps seem to work.

Updates, functions, apps, Bluetooth don't work on two Samsung devices

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F running TouchWiz on Android 7.0) and a Samsung Galaxy Tab A6 10.1 (SM-T580 running TouchWiz on Android 6.0.1), and I recently realized that I didn't receive any notification from Facebook Messenger on my Galaxy S7. It isn't a issue related to authorizations nor something in the settings. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the app, when I uninstalled I had to reboot the phone, and it never finished reinstalling according to the Play Store while I could in fact open the app.
Besides this, the blue filter also doesn't activate automatically like before (I checked the settings, and it should activate automatically), and Bluetooth, while detecting nearby devices, every time I send a file it just loads infinitely. On top of that, daily notifications that should pop up during the day suddenly all showed up at the same time at 2 AM.
Then I saw that I couldn't update any app on the Play Store, so I tried to follow Google feedback and uninstall Play Store updates. Now the Play Store won't update at all and the apps won't update either.
I realized it was the same thing on my Galaxy Tab, Messenger and Bluetooth not working, apps not updating. I want to point out that the tablet and the phone doesn't run on the same system. The system update notification showed up but it is impossible to confirm the update, touching the option in the settings doesn't do anything.
I ran antivirus software and Malwarebytes on both devices and both didn't detect any threats.
If it was only one device I could imagine it would be something that may have went undetected during the antivirus analysis, a problem that doesn't have an easy answer and I would maybe have restored it, but to have it on two devices makes me wonder if it will really fix it. The tablet interacts with the phone only via Bluetooth and my Google account, and is mostly used to take notes, it's not likely that what happened to the phone could have been transmitted from the phone to the tablet.
It worked fined until less than a week ago. I didn't download anything suspicious, the only thing I recall is having tried to update the Messenger app.
What could be the problem ?
Thank you.

If you removed bloatware from your phone tell me do you see any difference in speed and performance of your phone because I am not really sure is it worth trying. Thank you for replyes!!

Hi,
Here is my debloat solution.
DEBLOAT_Script_Samsung_A520F_7.0_Nougat_v1
I use it with TWRP recovery.
More speed or performance doesn't matter for me. But I have more space and better battery.
Anyoine maybe got a "save-list" which Bloatware could be deactivated via package disabler pro? I have no root access (KNOX warranty....) so i could only deactivate.

Your script includes MM AND N
first thing u need is ROOTED DEVICE.
as far as i know, deleting some of system app will not harm your device. i have tested it with my a3.
i deleted all knox app, all samsung stock app which i dont need, unused google things like hangout, google app itself, google search. u can also delete Galaxy Apps, but when you want to update the app which gave you a notification for an update, u cant.
i deleted it, because i dont need it. many, there are so many useless things from samsung, and im done with it.
for a safe step, u can 'of course' delete :
1. daydream
2.screensaver
3.weather
4.video
5.knox
6.secure folder
7.all samsung healthy apps
8.live wallpaper
9.themes
10.my samsung
11.file explorer
and many.
after i rooted my a3, i deleted almost 200mb bloatware. and it (dont know for sure) doesn't give any differences on speed, performance, or battery life. just faster when u open apps section on phone setting
sm-a520w oreo rooted and cautious debloat
Here's my list. Obviously you will have to make up your own mind as to what you want. I am waiting for hades to be fully functional on my lame "w" variant.
I did twrp, magisk and INSTALLED IN RECOVERY the debloater downloaded from magisk. Still running pretty much everything I used to such as email, playstore and phone/messaging and a game.
Installed a terminal emulator to run the module... called... terminal emulator but was told to try termux. Get Termux if you prefer larger text. Not a power user by any means so both work great for me.
I don't think you will want to uninstall much more than 3 or 4 apps at once. I just knocked off families like the knox clan, facebook clowns but for google i knocked them off in pairs so they could watch themselves get eaten. My first successful root involved titanium and I just went nuts and was not rebooting and by about the 20th app my screen did some neat swirly effect and I think I saw the screen throw files at me. Then I got a message that root was removed. Oh well.
Don't be signed into anything that you're uninstalling might be important. If you're on the W variant you'll notice 2 programs not listed with FIDO in the name. Be careful because I got locked out deleting one or two of those and it probably was also a bad idea having a pin on the lockscreen because that was most likely what I damaged. Luckily I easily fixed it in twrp. Just do the obvious ones first if you are new.
You will see two Sim Services if you go to remove it but I only did one. I picked the first one and left the one underneath it. They will be numbered different on your screen unless you do it in the same order as me, which you won't. So, when I did it they were 66 and 67. I chose 66 and did a reboot. Yeah the other one is on the list in the terminal still, but I don't get the icon anymore anywhere so I was rather pleased and just left it like that for now. It is now seen as sim toolkit in your apps in system view. I don't want to even talk about it in case it hears me and puts an icon in the app drawer.
What did I notice? Phone is definitely a little bit quicker. By a little I mean you may not notice if you use animations. RAM is definitely happy with the weight loss and needs a new wardrobe. It sometimes boots up around 2 but will rest around 1.5 if idle. It never did that before and obviously this device is not being sold and used properly with all this crap on it and when you don't take these measures, well there ain't much room for more crap so might as well get an S9 and abuse that sucker until it runs worse than a device years younger. I will add more as I find out what exactly my plans are and more importantly after fully understanding what I am removing. If you want to follow someone's list that somehow has so much removed it doesn't make sense... it's because they have apps to use in place for what they want. If that is appealing just tell me what app you crashed and burned on and when you're sick of 7 or so fixings grab a custom ROM
Keep lock screen security off and sign out/detach yourself from apps as much as possible. You can delete the keyboard with a current working one but I put it back as the message app lost smiley faces
I use Virgin and deleted their useless crap. Some weird rogers stuff I knew was there but a little old for a recent update...?
Encrypted Sim? I hope not. Do Enterprise SIm/Vpn together and power off. Take out your SIM and power on. I just waited until it was done the 30-60 second warm up and put the SIM back in and carried on. If you don't do this you'll want to do it when the phone reboots and chokes and.... just take it out.
Some apps will downgrade and need to be uninstalled (like they should be) in your apps after reboot and others may linger in the debloater. Just do'em again.
Not the order I did but as it was exported and from 1 and 2 menu options
You can uninstall Dictionary NOT User Dictionary. Settings will not function at all. Instant fc. User Dictionary can be disabled though. I am sure it can be done but other apps not listed here like contacts most likely need to go with it.

This is how i did it unrooted easy!

Is there a way to debloat it without a script.. maybe an app like package disabler. I upgrade package disabler but it doesnt work anymore. I use oreo stock no root...

I just helped my mother disabling an awful lot of bloat. Seems like I lost the battery section in Settings along the way. I still think it's worth it to be rid of the whole CM thing. I made a shortcut to the battery optimization via Tasker and I'm now looking to do the same for background processes.
Edit: It appears I disabled com.samsung.android.sm.devicesecurity by mistake. Now I have everything but the ****ty CM app optimizer and can forget about the shortcuts. Perfect!
Now I only have to figure out why I'm getting "All apps associated with this action have been turned off, blocked or not installed"-popup when booting. If it is home screen related it might have something to do with me removing a default app which used to show up in the farthest left slide of the screen. Never paid any attention to it so I'm pretty clueless as to what it may be.

Is it the App, Android or the phone that's causing Facebook problem ?

Firstly some details:
App in question: Subway Surfer's
Phone: Huawei P10 Lite (WAS-LX1) with Android 7.0 [NON-ROOTED]
Put simply - during the last few updates of the App (subway Surfers), I've noticed there's a problem with Facebook login & 'Top Run' and 'High Scores' tables
The Top Run/High Scores tables work fine before update, but when the game updates - the Tables do not show up, even though I'm still logged into Facebook.
If I log-off Facebook & try to log back in... I am unable to
I have contacted the developers Killo & despite their best efforts - it boiled down to 'Try uninstalling/reinstalling the game' - which incidentally DOES fix the problem (until next update) but this also means all progress is lost except for Highest Score & any purchases (FYI - Yes I've tried the usual 'clear cache'/'clear data' tricks)
I managed to figure out a workaround thanks to the phone having it's own 'backup' app (this video shows what I have to do) but it's a pain having to do this every 4 weeks. Incidentally this method also works with Helium Backup
The thing is though - I don't have any problems with my [cheap] Fusion5 tablet (on Android 5.1) or on my old Galaxy S4 (stuck on Android 4.2 due to 'KNOX trip') with the update / Facebook 'High scores' problem
At first I though it may be I accidentally turn off an access/accessibilty option on the P10 Lite (for security reasons) or because (on phone) I have it 'storing to SD card'..
I've checked these & can't see anything disabled but the tablet also stores everything to SD card & that doesn't have a problem.
I've googled this problem & it seems other people also have facebook login problems (just not quite the same as mine) & usually solutions are ' Uninstall all facebook apps/Subway surfer, then install them back in' but considering I don't have any facebook apps installed (on phone OR tablet) & yet the tablet/Galaxy phone works but P10 phone doesn't makes me think it's not the facebook apps that's the problem - more likely android OS or App
Has anyone else experienced this type of problem.. if so have they found out the real reason for the 'bug' & have they got a proper fix to it that doesn't require me to 'fix' it each update ??
Many thanks in advance

[TWRP Mod] T280 5.1.1 [ARK3][ODEX] X-mas Edition - Samsung Experiance

Welcome to the Tab A6 (T280) Xmas Samsung Experience Edition.
Sorry no special Xmas theme, to make it festive this time. Just did not have enough storage space in the system, once I got done. HA!
It is stuffed to the gills, with both Samsung and Google apps. This factory firmware has been fixed with full set of options given on phones and higher end tablets.
Links to download will be added in my 2nd post to this thread, on the 15th of this month. Tic toc, tic toc... will add screen shots soon, to the bottom of this page.
○ All tweaks are done by adding removed Android and Samsung configs & components with the OEM build
○ Most all popular and usefull apps are loaded into ROM, to give the most usable internal SD space for system speed and application use.
○ Full featured Application Manager with Application Permissions
○ Full featured Accessibility settings
○ Reset Settings option to clear system ui settings back to default, if corruption occurs
○ Integrated full featured Photo Studio Editor in Gallery (Phone portage mode), with finger Spen drawing functions
○ Full Samsung keyboard experiance
○ S-Voice Gear integration
○ Health profiles enabled
○ UPSM
○ Galaxy Wearable and its support adapter are integrated into system
○ Updated Kids pre-loaded apps, Kids Mode will need to be installed via Samsung Apps to use them. Saves time and resources.
○ Full featured Bluetooth
○ ANT+
○ SAPA
○ Enabled USB audio path via Android's built in feature in Audio config and permissions.
○ Updated 2018 WiFi firmware (Fastest and most router compatible yet)
○ Live switchable (stock, immersive, hidden status bar, hidden notification)
○ Latest Google Android Auto
○ Samsung Car Mode & Mirror Link
○ Updated Mirror Link car profiles (2018 J7)
○ Updated Spen libraries (no true spen support)
○ Finger Spen support
○ Enhanced Voice Note
○ OpenGapps Nano (Dec 4th, 2019) installed
○ Latest (Nov 2019) Backdrop for Daydream
○ Enhanced Wallpaper options
○ Enhanced Accessibility features and options
○ Added lock options, with Face lock in Tablet settings UI, and Google Smart Lock and Samsung Signature lock on phone settings UI. (Note: to revert to non secure lock mechanism, you must clear security credentials 1st).
○ Updated some system packages to allow external app compatibility, such as Click and Go (Tested fully functional) and other apps that run on phones.
○ Cleaned up wee bugs with sorting out the system library, which made the user experience clean and smooth.
○ Notification panel shows full style messages
○ Media Audio is now default on volume keys, using a small system app
○ Hands Free mode, now is functional, as part of the Car Mode feature
○ Original Tablet settings UI is intact, and has no FC bugs, just Themes is broken by Samsung.
○ Updated SManager script menu items
○ All apps but Maps are updated as of build date. Newer Maps is too bloaty, this one works well with both older Drive Link and Newest Android Auto.
If you liked my previous releases, then this one should be one you'll want to upgrade to. You can flash dirty or clean. Just be sure to wipe your caches.
Note, when flashing with apps installed to SD and data is intact... let the tablet sit without user activity for 10 minutes after lock screen is shown, after initial flash. Once you have unlocked the tablet, be aware the tablet may reboot. It will if oat/odex is required to multi dex . It may take 5 minutes to show the lock screen, so be patient.
If you have a Themes Store on your existing launcher from my past builds, then you may want to do a ti backup of the Touchwiz launcher data, and have it for restoring after flashing. You can also create a shortcut on the home screen, which may show it as available when flashed dirty, while the launcher will not show it after flashing.
Yes, I kept the Themes option still active in this build, but... the stock tablet settings UI does not allow it to function for installing any themes. If one wants to use themes, they would need to flash dirty over any one of my past builds, in order to capture a short cut.
This build has some corrected theme support, which fixes most theme issues. But beware, not all themes are friendly, and may mess up your over all look on the system.

Merry xmas or happy xmas!
MERRY XMAS! or HAPPLY XMAS! in the UK
Did not have time to format this thread, spent too much time sorting out this ROM TWRP backup. Too many updates between when I started and now, some of which effected how things functioned for me. I recommend keeping Magisk 19, though 20.1 seems stable enough for most peeps.
This ROM is made to be the most compatible and efficient over stock and other modded ROMs I have come across in the years of owning android devices. Many say my ROMs are bloated, with too much cross compatibility. Well, actually they are not. Compare your currently running rom with osmonitor, and watch how services stack up live after reboot or cold start up. Take note of system and osmonitor services. I try my best to keep both osmoniter services on top of the stack as much as possible. The only way to do so, is to have a balance of Samsung system apps and Google apps, and the addition of services that some ROMs have missing. Stripping android of some tied in services may be a band aid to get more ram, or remove active services running in background... but if the system has hooks to the missing app or service, it will constantly try and pole the missing service and will slow some processes. Osmonitor will show how smooth your system truly is. Bloated or not... I have removed for the most part Google Music, Video, and Games. They are updated as much as play services, so what is the point in placing them into ROM, when an update will add them into user space. Basically I bake my ROMs to be left alone untouched either uodates, and leave user apps that are updated out of the rom, thus the lack of a built in browser, and an older version of maps. You don't need to update maps, as it has no compatibility issues over the mix of the newest Google apps and mix of older unsupported Samsung apps.
Yes, most all apps on this ROM are updated up to the latest version, as of 14/12/19.
NOTE... NO BUILT IN BROWSER. WHY WASTE ROM SPACE ON A BROWSER THAT MAY NOT BE USED OR WILL BE UPDATED SOON BY THE USER. MAPS IS OVER A YEAR OLD, AND HAS NO EFFECT ON USE, UNLESS YOU WANT TO USE MORE OF THE UPDATED FEATURES WITH THE NEWER MAPS APP. TO KEEP GOOGLE FROM UPDATING SYSTEM FILES, YOU CAN PLACE OVER 700MB OF MUSIC OR YOUR FAV VIDEO TO KEEP GOOGLE INSTALLER CACHE LIMITED, AND WILL REQUEST APP REMOVAL WHEN INSTALLING APPS FROM PLAY STORE. I USE MIRROR SITES TO UPDATE BY SIDE LOADING. ALSO FREEZE PLAY SERVICES FOR INSTANT APPS IF NOT USING INSTANT APPS. IT'S INSTALLED AS A SYSTEM APP, SO IT DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY LOAD INTO USER ROM SPACE BY GOOGLE AND WASTE SPACE. IF LEFT UNFROZEN GOOGLE WILL AUTO UPDATE.
Below is some more images of what to expect... having app permissions, all apps are monitored and blocked from starting, unless they are hooked into the system. Usually all side loaded and user play store added apps are blocked to run at start up, unless the app has an option for the user to enable or disable auto start up. If an app has auto startup, like chrome for example... it will not auto start, since it was side loaded or installed as a user app. Thus no browser is baked into the rom. The active apps shown in a few images are from a minute after reboot. The optional Kid's Mode app is manually added, and will run for a short birthday check and close, if installed. I recommend freezing smart card services if not using it. Also any of the few apps that are shown as running, that are not of use can be frozen, and used later on when needed, without need to install at a later time.
NOTE... WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW. MY DEFAULT IS SET WITH THE SYSTEM MODEL AS A J5, INSTALL TO SDCARD DISABLED, HOSTS FILE ENABLED, AND STOCK SETTINGS UI (WITH ENHANCEMENTS). THIS IS A PROPER SETUP FOR MOST ALL NEEDS. SO CHANGING THEM WILL EFFECT HOW THE SYSTEM WILL FUNCTION IF UNAWARE OF THE LIMITATIONS. ALWAYS INSTALL AN APP WITHOUT ENABLING INSTALL TO SDCARD. ENABLE INSTALL TO SDCARD BEFORE GOING INTO APP MANAGER TO SET THE APPS INSTALL LOCATION. ONCE MOVED TO SDCARD, DISABLE INSTALL TO SDCARD. BY FOLLOWING MY METHOD, MOST ALL APPS WILL PROPERLY FUNCTION WHEN MOVED TO SDCARD. USING PHONE SETTINGS UI WILL HAVE SOME BUGS. ALL OF WHICH ARE MINOR, AS THE HOOKS TO SOUND AND MOTION ARE FOR PHONES, NOT TABLETS. MOST OF THE ADDED FEATURES ARE ON THE DEFAULT PAGE. KID'S MODE AND GALAXY STORE WILL NEED TO HAVE THE DEVICE BOOT WITH STOCK BUILD.PROP. THOUGH MOST OF THE APPS IN GALAXY STORE WILL PROPERLY UPDATE WITH THE J5 MODDED BUILD PROP. JUST A SAFETY PRECAUTION WITH UPDATING KID'S MODE FUNCTIONALITY AND UPDATING APPS. SOME ARE NOT CROSS COMPATIBLE BETWEEN TABLET AND J5 PHONE. THE MODEL OF J5 I USE DOES, AS OF THIS TIME, KEEP COMPATIBILITY VERY HIGH, SO JUST BE AWARE OF LIMITATIONS. I HAD TO REMOVE UNIVERSAL SWITCH AND DIGITAL CLOCK WIDGET, TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE APPS PACKAGED IN THIS ROM.
WHAT YOU GET IS...
UPDATED & FASTER WIFI DRIVERS

A wee it of info...
Had a wee bit of time to add this...
Since I found issues with stock omx for the latest build, I took time to sort out most of the formatting errors within the omx xml. They had a monkey write up the config. Yikes!
Also, I unrestricted a lot of floating features, as to allow more options or stylized formatting.
If anyone finds issues with connecting to download sites or apps tied heavily into marketing, disable my hosts file in smanager menu.
Phone video player will need some guess and search work for buttons and functions. Nature of the beast, since frame work is different for button icons.
Video player has editor link that cannot detect the new Galaxy store. To use the full version of VE, you must find someone with a J5 that has the downloaded VE, which is about 100MB in size. It shound link with the stock video player, when editor is selected. Since no editor was installed into the rom, it will ask to download. All the editors, I found are for S5 and S6 models, which do not display and FC when backed out of initial page.
This ROM is a lot smoother in long term usage, without having to reboot as much. Most of three inhancements are for power users, which will find having this cheap tablet worth something a lot more that it was before.
Sapa and ANT+ have not been tested, but the system does show them enabled and with out errors when initialized.
USB LAN should also enable when plugged in, but have no clue if kernel allows function.
After rebooting or cold booting, depending on how many or total app size is installed to SD, it may take 10 to 15 minutes to fully loaded and become stable. Some of which may cause lag if running apps promptly from boot.
Once you use the firmware through the day, you will find it smoother than ever before, as it settles in. The main reason is app permissions. Many stand alone TV apps are designed to run from start up, and stay memory resident. Having them being blocked from loading at boot, really makes a difference. This samsung option for phones works better than any other mod available for blocking pemissions on apps. Though it's very limited on how much you can adjust.
As with my past builds on the removal of Samsung's manager, I tried to keep it, but it's too annoying and a memory hog, and totally unnecessary.
All the apps can be left as is, as they are mostly updated. Maps on the other hand is fine for most. YouTube-Vanced, is slightly old, because of the updates are always behind Google.
If language is not included in the language pack, rely in the installed Google TTS. Samsung's Svoice falls back on Google TTS. There are plenty of language options there to support the lack of there of. Since there is limited space on the rom to add language files directly... you may have to remove the US language files, and selectively add the language you want, in its place. I doubt you can have more than one language installed for Samsung Svoice and handwriting.
I tested both Galaxy Store and Themes with the J5 modded build.prop without issues. Even kids mode may run properly. Just there are times when it will ask to update, when it's for the wrong version.
Installing kids mode will install kids store, and may opt to do so after kido mode is downloaded and has been installed.
Wearables may give some funky notice of not having at least 1.5GB of free storage space. It's messed up. I have had 2GB free space, and yet the notice still pops up. I take it as all devices get the message, or the app can't properly detect our free ram space
Fixed a major minor boo boo
Uploaded a fixed replacement Xmas ROM. My original had a last minute small change, which included files that were not intended to be used. I removed them and corrented with adding the correct fIles that were intended as part of the build.
So, if anyone has downloaded the Xmas ROM within the last 24 hrs of posting, please delete your copy and re-download from the corrected link in the second page of this thread.
I ham happy to report, this final version is truly the best, and has been tested with both clean install and various dirty installs. Just the last minute addition caused some issues unforseen, and was from selecting the wrong folder of testing files.
Audio / video enhancements & fixes
Okay, I found that I missed the addition of these two files in my recently fix and posted build, after realizing that the final update files were not in one folder, which ended up hosing my initial X-mas build.
These will allow higher data rates on media, both recording and pass through bt and docking.
Samsung disabled usb data channel, by not allocating in/out features for docking and audio input from bt.
Also these original files had formatting and settings errors, which needed corrected.
Expect editors to be slower than before, as the limits have been raised to 1280x720 for video. Also audio recordings may be of higher quality and bit rate. Bt should have better performance as well.
I also added some extra bitrate, and channel options for audio.
The files are to be placed in the system/etc folder, with 644 permissions set.

Gonna test this tonight, thanks

Ah, I think you need Uninstall updates on Google services, and playstore.
Wipe google data as well for both.
With dirty installs, I expect that Google service system files are on older updates, since my build is with fairly new Google system files.
I will need to address the removal of google system updates before flashing.
You can manually remove the Google updates by using TWRP, and mounting system, then use the file browser to remove all the Google apps in the apps folder in data.
I did mention that it will take a while to boot, when dirty flashing. It will dim but after 10 to 15 minutes it will finish.
Then I recomend waiting another 10 to 15 minutes for the system to build sdcard cache and app markers. It will reboot once more but much faster.
If one a clean (system wipe) after flash the boot is normal, and will not reboot.
My new build allows system settings reset... which may come in handy some day. It clears only system settings, not apps or their settings. It takes a while to complete, but it will clean up system corruption, without need to do a factory reset wipe. I am surprised Samsung disabled that on its tablets.

yea i did clean install and it booted up in few minutes, so it was fast. Than it needed few more minutes to load up. But all in all this was a great idea of semi custom rom
I'm testing the latest version, so far so good.
You can turn up the volume of the headphones and bluetooth from build.prop?
Thank you

Thanks for letting me know things are doing good with the updated version of my mods.
As for Bluetooth volume boost... not sure but I think tiny_hw.xml is what needs to be edited. I am not a dev, so that is something, I will look into... right now, I am tweaking my media configs, now that I have removed bad formatting of the config files and learning how to mix standard phone google video media config into the Google video_le, which this tablet uses.
Been testing a lot with jellyfish test clips. Found some Tweaks to make VP9, H265, and WMV playback smoother than stock. Though they are all limited by bit rate around 5MB and lower, and no greater than 1280x720 resolution.
Impressed with h264 decoder... plays level 5 100MB bit rate very well, though most vids need audio decoding, since AC3 is used on the high quality vids.
May release a final final build, with the enhanced audio/video capability, for April around easter. Done too much with this tablet with sorting out wee bugs, my mind needs a rest.
The good side is that I hardly see any issues with its reliability, now with how hard I use it. I got 12 hrs of continual use on a single charge, and that's with boost script and multiple reboots boots and loading applications, videons tests and editing files.
It took a wee bit for the battery management to kick in with reliable data, a few charges after a few days sorted out its history.
How to change the language of Svoice?
I can't find the folder
Thanks

Hi, Svoice is tied into system language, and Google TTS, as a fallback.
You can download the region files posted in the download links, and replace the US Files, with the ones in the folders, each folder corresponds to the ones in the system folder. If your language is not included in the region zip folder, you must setup google tts to install voice files for your region.
Oh, here is a link to an app to manage your blue tooth volume on various connections, not just one setting for all.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.darken.bluemusic
You may try resetting volume to verify the Bluetooth volume is properly synced to the media volume. To reset Bluetooth volume, set the headphone volume on the headset to low, lower the media volume down to 0, and disconnect Bluetooth. Do not unpaired the head set. Reconnect Bluetooth and adjust the media volume up to 3/4, then adjust your head set volume accordingly, to obtain the proper listening level.
Video decoding capabilities
After migrating Google phone MediaCodec settings into LE, and customizing default media codec settings, I have fully tested video formats listed below with dececent bit rates to correspond with very good to excellent picture quality and still be pause / jitter free.
Here are the codecs with their playback formats @24FPS, and my tested bit rates (some are near max, but others have head room)
YOUTUBE WEBM (vp9) 720p @60fps works fine on browser, and included youtube-vanced. Tried higher bit rates, but as expected software decode lacks cpu power, like h265, and wmv9 decoders. The real beauty is the vpu is unrestricted to take on 1920x1080 content at high bit rates, and doing 60fps, if encoded at that frame rate.
WMV (asf) 720p wma stereo 192kbs (Windows 7 Wildlife HD Demo) minor buffering video frame blur or freeze from background processes. (I will tweak further)
HEVC (h265) 720p 4mb/s (max bit rate)
WMV (wmv9) 720p 6mb/s (can go higher)
VC1 (avi, wmv) 1080p 6mb/s
WEBM (vp8) 1080p 30mb/s
WEBM (vp9) 1080p 4.5mb/s
WMV (wmv8) 720p 6mb/s
MP4 (mp4) 1080p 30mb/s
AVC (h264 mkv) 1080p 30mb/s & 720p 60fps all tested OK also 1080p with 100mb/s decode (no audio)
3GP (h263) 325p no limit on bit rate
FLV (flv) 720p 2mbps can go higher
Note... AVC 1080p 60fps jitters and will loose audio sync above 5MB/s data rate.
Don't have any other 60fps test files to check limitations with decoders and hardware.
Seems that this is as good as it is going to get for decoding videos.
