Nice test but what software version are you on as in os? Pie,Oreo? custom rom os?
looks like some times it doesnt maintain 60fps. LG is really bad when it comes to operating system updates as performance has been crippled on pie so if your on pie it might be that otherwise its just how its uploaded or software you use.

Hi
Yes its on pie
But also its exported with kinemaster and the 60fps function for exporting with kinemaster is still experimental and undeveloped so that i think is the main issue, but also i was casually shooting at the time anyway not realising that the camera should be moved so much and so quickly!
Im going to post vids of my 5 day trek to machu picchu eventually and the video shooting did get better with each day

I never like to use video editors as they either ruin the quality, make the file size bigger or smaller, or just encode it not properly.

The only problem I've encountered so far is the 60fps as you mentioned
Everything else was spot-on couldn't tell the difference really, if anything better in some ways because I was able to tweak the contrast and colour, which made it just a bit better
In kinemaster I can manually choose the bitrate so I just select the same as the original source, which in this video was 24mbps so I don't have any issues with file sizes, and as for data and storage it's not an issue for me personally

Athena Video Performance - Prove yourself!

Let me first state that I AM NOT decrying the needs of Athena owners, nor am I suggesting they shouldn't own one. Everyone has different devices to fit different needs, HOWEVER in the course of heated debate on these forums people have frequently stated that their Athena is MORE THAN CAPABLE of playing video, without optimisation which neither skips, jumps or loses sync. I owned two and over the course of nearly nine months NEVER managed to get a high quality, non-optimised video to display solidly without losing sync.
What I ask is for people to describe a high quality (700mb+) Divx or Xvid file that their Athena can play fluidly and without losing sync, and for the sake of credibility upload a video of this in action. When I get chance later today I will upload a video of an N95 playing a full-size divx movie - I will demonstrate the video size and specifics, show the device playing it whilst multitasking and demonstrate fast-forwarding, pausing and playing and how this affects lip-sync and general playback quality.
Let me re-iterate that I understand that the N95 is not a competitor to the Athena and that for the most part it is unsuited to the needs of people on these forums; but if you're going to state that your video performance is good I'd appreciate if you could prove it! It is after all a powerful machine with loads more RAM and processing power than the humble N95.
Just a bit of fun.
EDIT: DISREGARD THE 'BUT DISAPPOINTING' ASPECT OF THE 3RD QUESTION WHEN VOTING AS I WILL ADMIT IT SOUNDS BIASED
MidgetEdit: Fixed the poll
Here we go again and this time i didnt start it
Voted for second option, "can play most things well". I'll try and demonstrate that tonight, hopefully.
hey i think i've been very fair with my questions
Well... Didn't want to point it out, but in all fairness, the "but disappointing" should be removed or brought to the option below.
For one can find the Athena's video performance average and NOT be disappointed...

Fair point. If you can tell me how to remove the 'but disappointing' bit from the poll I will, otherwise we'll imagine the 'but disappointing' bit doesn't exist for the purposes of the poll...
Here's my video. If it's out of sync please report as I've had this problem before and didn't have chance to check the upload before I left the house. Cheers.
I can't say that I'm impressed by the video performance of the athena because it's my largest problem eversince I got it last week especially in 128 dpi settings. I'm neither in the position to say that I'm disappointed also because I really haven't had the chance to play with it that long. I would have to vote later. I appreciate though these types of threads because it forces people to look for ways to either extend their capabilities in trying to know and teach what they can do with their athena to prove that it's a really good machine or to simply shoot down the opinion of others. Suffice it to say that it may bring out the best of the athena or bring it down to te gutter. The best part is that people get to choose base on their best judgement who to believe and which opinion to discard.
Any performance videos yet?
I genuinely would like to know if the claims about video performance being good are true, I'm not trying to catch anyone out
Sorry, I did'nt see the word UNCONVERTED and picked A. I guess it should have been a B. But why would anybody play it unconverted? The files are just far too big unconverted, isn't it? Also, it would carry so much useless information designed for home theatre systems at least, that it would literally chock any small device movie player to dealth. What I do play include a 900MB movie which is crystal clear, does not skip at all, and never have any out of sync problem. But I'm not sure if it has gone through conversion, as I downloaded it from the net.
If I want a home theatre movie quality experience, I'd not use Athena to do it. I'll use my home theatre system.
Would you play movies unconverted on say a viewty or N95?
Midget, could you transfer my vote from A to B?

My wording is a little off-kilter. When I say 'unconverted' I mean 'not specifically optimised for the device' I.E. the sort of file you'd download/play on your desktop. Sorry for the equivocal wordage peeps!
I never convert any movies that I download, so that qualifies as unconverted then?
I hav to jump in here. The resolution or aspect ratio of your movie file along with the audio coding was low. If I had those settings on a movie and played on the Athena, it would be no problem. I convert almost all my movies using DVD Catalyst and I ensure it is at 30 fps, audio is at 192, the max I can get it and the picture adjustment is at 1100. I have very few problems when I play those on my athena. If I could get the file you have I would love to cross compare, because that video shouldn't choke the Athena at all. At least in my experience using core player.
Then again, this is just my two cents.

yes it does! when you get chance to upload a video showing the quality please do. I'm suprised if your Athena can handle them without either displaying linear patterns during fast scenes, losing sync or stopping and starting. If it can then I will capitulate and say you are a lucky so-and-so!

i chose that video because it is one i had problems with on my athena.
EVERYONE TRY THIS SHORT VIDEO AND REPORT BACK ON THE PLAYBACK QUALITY. I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE BEST TO HAVE A STANDARD FILE TO TEST OUT THAT'S SMALL ENOUGH TO UPLOAD. It's just a video of my dog recorded on my N95 at tv quality. It is a 640 by 480 resolution video which should be a good ratio for the Athena. I haven't modified it in any way. Let me know what results you all get.
Cheers

In that case, I'd keep my A rating for the time being because until now I still don't understnad the issue.
I'd test your sample file and provide feedback. There must be something that I've missed I guess. Yes, perhaps I have been real lucky.
I've downloaded it to my desktop runing Vista and want to try it here first. But could'nt play it media player. Do you need to convert it before it can play there too? What program do you use to play it on desktop?
On my device, it says "MPEC4 AAC Audio Decoder not included! It was removed from the official install package because of intellectual property considerations." (strange. I never had this error before)
Is this the kind of problem you're referring to Leoni?
Oh wait, although it has the above error message, the video plays perfectly! I get very sharp image. The camera itself jerks a bit I think during shooting but the playback is smooth.
No sound though. Is there supposed to be sound?
Cute little doggy! Is that your dog?
So, to sum up, for me. It works without conversion on my Athena but not on my Vista desktop.
The issue is that Video playback is an issue with the Athena (and other devices) yet some people insist theirs work fine. If there is no problem then I wonder why threads like this this this this and this among many others exist? (oh, and this!)
Many moons ago I thought I'd solved the problem bu it must've been a lucky video file as a couple of days later I tried a different downloaded movie and back I was to the 'flickery' pictures and loss of sync.
I just wish there was an answer that worked for everyone.

Yes it's my doggywoggy. I use VLC. It's freeware - try it on that to give you an idea of how it should look. The TCPMP extras you need for playback of that file are in PK's extras package just in case you want to get em.

choppy video?

Anyone more think that all the video samples are choppy like the phone can't maintain the framerate and worse in quality than I4?

first, i'm see it ok, no double frame & stutter when recording , second, since when the I4 can record at 1080p? if you want to compare, compare with 720p recording for SGS2, i'm sure SGS2 better then I4...
Yea I see some stutters... I dunno if it's just because of early software or youtube compression or whatever. First of all this is 1080p, so you can't really compare it to the iPhone's 720p.
The only way to check for exact output is to download and analyze the file outputed by the phone itself, as youtube is notorious for compressing and decreasing framerates to decrease size.
So far I have seen nothing but great opinions in reviews as far as 1080 recording go...
And as many have said rotten-apple company phone does not do anything better than 720.
They seem fine to me as well. Perhaps check that your Graphics card can play back that resolution.
Not criticizing you, just merely stating the obvious.
Seems awesome to me, never thought a phone could record like that, if you're on Mac or Linux don't forget Flash can sometimes be awful on these OS.
I am on a Mac and it looks fantastic here.
The video quality is smooth and crisp. If you pause it, you can actually clearly see license plates.
Wow, what crappy video from a phone.
If I were you I wouldn't buy it.

Irony? If not, which phone do you have ?
of course it will be not like canon or nikon whatever cameras
its a smartphone .. with a camera and capable of recording 1080p @30fps .. not bad
dont expect too much from a phone
if u want a pro camera go buy one .. like canon vixia hf20
Yes total sarcasm.
I watched the video and I honestly could not see what the guy is talking about.
The video looks flippin great. And seeing the latest bench marks on the phone I very happy I passed up the Atrix not to mention that the Atrix is locked up tighter than a drum.
Oh, OK. It's always difficult to know whether it's sarcasm or not when it's written and not spoken.

There is no denying that the video is choppy. Thats a shame, hope the finished product is better. Some here are saying its only a phone so don't expect too much, but the iphone 4 has smooth video recording and so too does the 3GS. I think we've come to expect better.
just use 720p and you ll be fine...
Remember that these videos have been uploaded to Youtube and been encoded by Google again. If you actually go to Keepvid.com and download the video at full 1080 and watch it in VLC, they look gorgeous.

Thats not the solution.
If they sold the phone as 1080p 30fps, it should be 1080p 30fps that it is SMOOTH video not skippy one.

Can you show us a HD movie on the N.10..I for one would love to see something..thanks
Regarding that boot up clip of the Transformer TF200 vs N10, not really a fair comparison unless both are fresh factory resets (or brand new, you get my point). Can you confirm?

Piss off.... I have to wait until Monday night to play with mine.

It would be great if you could post the following two screenshots:
1.) A screenshot showing the version (as proof that the tablet has recieved the latest udpate)
2.) A screenshot showing the Display Settings menu. I would like to see if it has an entry for wireless display. If the entry is not there, we can conclude that it does not currently support Miracast as there is alot of speculation regarding this.
Thanks - and enjoy your new device!

Can you actually select 4k on Youtube Mobile? Just got the Note 4...

Pretty confused. I cannot select 4k, or at first anything above 720p until I installed the re installed Youtube\cleared it. Now I have the option of 1080p, but I am still missing the option of 4k as I have the Note 4, is this just a Youtube mobile app problem or what? Thanks in advance, loving the display but confused as the Youtube app just seems funky and won't allow anything above 1080p, so I have no way of really showing off the phones 4k feature in terms of video quality. Thanks in advance
Well the video has to have been uploaded at 4k quality... Try Rhett and Links "Vacation Song". I know that was uploaded in 4k.

There's no option in the YouTube app for 4k. You yourself a can shoot 4K video or view content that has been uploaded in 4K.

Oh I've tried a boat-load of 4k ones. On my PC there is an option for 4k with them, not on Note 4's Youtube app. I also at first was stuck with just up to 720p, I uninstalled Youtube and re-installed and now get 1080p, but still nothing like 1440p or 4k.
The 1080 option is a very recent addition to the Youtube app. (one of the last two updates.)
Which is ridiculous, since 1920x1200 screens on Android have been around since the Asus TF700T introduced them in July 2012. More than two bloody years ago.
2K will probably take them another two years to figure out, 4k at least four.
So no, the option does not exist.

According to what I was reading if you go back two Youtube updates you get 1440P, you just have to uninstall and manually install the old package. It was in there, as was 1080P before, they just took it out for some reason. Stupid considering all the 4k devices on the market now.

Still having this problem
Load 4k vids on YT and 1440 is the highest option
Anyone know if and when YT will include 4k as an option?

thanks for you reply, good to hear that. one more question, can you remember if you can play at 1080P when you were on cos 6?
yes, you are right, in prime video app, when choose streaming quality the "BEST" i get is 0.46GB/hr, meaning 480P. My wife's p30 pro has BEST like 1.8GB/hr.
i was suprised that my old pixel 2xl had same 0.46GB/hr, never notice that before.
also may i ask couple of more question since you are here.
how is your cos 7 experience? i read from chinese web, many users compalint about lag, battery, heating, and other issues. moreover when i read from Gsmarena "Oppo Reno 10x zoom - user opinions and reviews" most of people there had issues with cos7, and most of them suggest stay on cos6.

My experience with COS7
Faster, more fluid usability. No lags. None with COS6 either, but the UI is now even smoother.
I'm using the global model (CPH1919). The Chinese model is inferior to the global model and as such, users will experience some variation between COS6 and COS7.
Ignore any reviews, etc from China. It's different.
In answer to your issue with HD, I can confirm that I had no issues with receiving HD - 1080 or 4K. I'm wondering if your settings on your app are set to "Auto". This can happen with YouTube and if you manually request 1080 or above, then that will be the normal setting (unless a video is specifically of a lower standard format of course).
I have attached an example from YouTube settings. I have overridden the standard setting, so I get at least 1080 over WiFi and at least 480 over mobile data.
Best suggestion I can offer, I'm afraid. Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for your reminder, I find there is a option to " use hardware acceleration" on my old pixel 2xl phone. Make it HD now. However, the option isn't even there on my Reno 5G at all. Have no idea.
i installed netflix and in the setting, it shows widevine L1 and FULL HD, i guess it's fine with netflix. on youtube i have no problem watch 1080P content. maybe it is just the prime video had something to do with the phone.
I read online, cos 7 brings some sort of GPU acceleration, not sure if that will help solve this issue.

Looks like Prime video is the issue. I have exactly same specs for Netflix

if that is the case, i guess there is nothing i can do. Maybe one day after a update, it will be fixed. it is pain to watch 480p on a 6.6 inch screen. by the way, may i ask you battery drain during standby? like 8 hrs standby, yestday i reset my phone with off screen clock off, wifi/bluetooth/location/nfc, gamil/photo auto sync, backup on., no sim. it drained 4% in 9hrs. i think it is ok. do not know what normal drain like.

4% in 9 hours is spot on. No need to worry. Battery management on this device is outstanding
Does anyone know what the status of HDR playback on Netflix, Amazon and Disney+ is? I assume this is down to the actual apps lacking support for the phone, but I had read that HDR used to work on the 10x Zoom at some point last year.

Netflix and Disney+ work perfectly at 1080p for me. I don't have Prime, but I know some people have struggled with it - mainly 5G devices restricted to 480p.
Screenshot shows Netflix data. No HDR but this is not a problem

They work well in HD for me as well. It's just that the screen is capable of HDR and whilst sometimes I find HDR can be either not very useful or a bit too much, it would be nice for it to work as the screen is capable. Having said that, I compared my playback in Netflix to that on a Oneplus 7t (which is supported for HDR in Netflix) and there was little/no obvious difference (bar the slightly cool rendition on the Oppo).
