My battery has gone to hell. After getting it down to 5% one day, it just would not hold a charge long. Then I got it down to 10% a week later, and it really got bad. Life is about 1/3 what it used to be. I also have some dust and even small hairs or flecks in the screen.
So...I ordered a new advance replacement unit from T-Mobile, and it just arrived. Simple enough? Well, I have the memory upgrade in mine, so I need to do some component swapping. What's the best way to go about this? What parts can be disconnected easily (or more importantly, reconnected)? Where is the damn battery (didn't see it in the disassembly photos on the site)?

Please specify 'component swapping' in more detail... Are you actually thinking about swapping the memory upgrade??? You do know that that would mean desoldering the 2 big memory chips on both boards, cleaning them and the boards, and soldering them back... How good are you at smd soldering??? We haven't dared doing that, yet... (some pics of upgrading memory of an iPaq are available at http://www.linearlogix.com/ipaq/upgradereview.html
There are commercial services doing the upgrade (32 -> 64 mb), if I were you I'd contact one of those.
Other than that, we're currently swapping lcd screens, touchpanels, mainboards from 3 broken units to create 2 working units and 1 very broken one. So, what do you need to know exactly?
BTW, the battery is stuck on the inside of the back cover.

No, no, I can solder normal stuff, but not that. I mean, I assume what I need to do is keep my own motherboard. I'd like the screen, case, and battery from the new unit. On the radio section, I suppose it doesn't matter either way. So I incorrectly said "component" when what I really meant was "board," and desired advice on doing that.

Ok, so you want to use the screen/touchpanel/backlight assembly from the new one (smart move, not taking that apart; besides the fact that it's glued together and you need to separate it on the correct separation, that also leaves the risk of forgetting the correct orientation of the glass panel with little dots on it, used to distribute the backlight evently onto the lcd; and, there are slightly different assemblies out there which need slightly different panels...). You should keep all boards from the old unit (old mainboard including old radio unit, use the new screen/touchpanel/backlight assemly, and the new case (which includes the new battery).
You could consider swapping IMEI numbers on the units... Although _shops_ never register the numbers when they give out units, service departments might. You know where to find the tool to do that...
The screwing around of the parts should not take more than half an hour if it's the first time you take apart this unit (but have taken apart small electronics before) and less if you've done it before.
Beware of the really thin clear plastic rings used under the screws to screw down the display...
We won't be publishing a very detailed 'how to swap your screen' instruction any time soon but do have some raw unedited pictures of the operation. I'll see if we can get them online any time soon.

I ended up doing the change and ran into a snag--the plastic pin that sticks out of the top power button was loose or broken (probably happened in one of the many drops the unit has experienced). When I opened the case, I lost that. Had to send it to PPC Techs to have them solder in a new power switch.
Other than that, disassembly is pretty easy and straightforward. You mentioned you won't publish a how-to...is that because of not wanting to have it on the site, or that nobody wants to write one? If the latter, I'd be happy to write it up and include my detailed pics.
If you want to make a detailed howto on how to open and close the unit, and how to exchange certain parts, we will gladly put it on!
Do make sure to stress that people need a certain level of experience or be willing to risk losing the device though...
I just installed the Screen Protector that was included in the HTC TD2 box. Although i centered it with high precision, there 2-3 spots on the screen that show when the device is off (when the screen is lit, they are invisible).
Someone else might not bother, but since I am a perfectionist, and also I have seen and plan to buy a very nice Screen Protector on the web that doubles as a mirror, I would like to remove the current one. However, I have two questions:
1. How can I take it off without making any scratch or other kind of damage to the device?
2. By taking it off, will there be any leftover glue/sticky stains on the screen? If yes, how can these be cleaned completely?

Unless you've used them before, be aware that the 'Mirror' finish type also reflect when you are using them as well, not like when the device is off, but something you need to be aware of.
and yes, sellotape, I never use anything hard (even a finger nail) as you might damage the thing you're trying to protect (the screen) when its at its most vulnerable.

Remember that the touch screen is designed to be touched, with or without a screen protector. It will therefore withstand a certain amount of punishment from fingernails and suchlike. It isn't as desperately delicate as some people may have us believe.

Following on from this, I just found the post that pointed this out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=523788&page=2 the pics speak for themselves, does look good when its turned off, but I think the reflections, especially in bright sun light could be a big problem.
Well, after seeing these pictures, the mirror protector is now definitively a no go for me....!
Update on the mirror protector: I saw it on a friend's device, and decided to give it a try after all... Conclusion: Its look is very impressive, and it can be useful sometimes (especially for the ladies! ). It's true that it degrades the image somehow (especially under direct sunlight), but I wouldn't say the effect is grave... In any case, I will watch its behaviour for a couple of days, to see if it is convenient or not.

I have an ATT tilt 2, running an Energy rom. It worked great till 3 days ago, when I noticed a "light" spot on the screen (about 50mm in diameter) , like something had scratched some film away.
I disregarded it as just that, a scratch, but the next day the screen was completely unresponsive. If I press on the spot, it "fills" with a darker color, I am guessing this is the digitizer pressing into the LCD screen, the screen then becomes responsive for a few seconds (Just long enough for me to reset my alarms!), but not always.
I have ready through these forums and online, and it sounds like I damaged something, digitizer or LCD, but I am not sure which I need to replace.
Also, I have read that replacing just one or the other can be problematic as they need to be aligned just so and with no particles in between, but I cannot find any Digitizer+LCD assemblies online for Tilt2...
So I guess what I am looking for is:

If it's under warranty, do an exchange. That would be the easiest/cheapest option. HTC provides a 15 month warranty normally. Going through your carrier would be a better option, however, as they usually just swap out the headset. If you have no warranty, then just search eBay or Google for the digitizer and LCD. They normally come together. Based on your description of the problem, you'll need both anyhow. Some come with instructions, and some don't. YouTube has a few videos detailing the replacement, though.
I have had a very similar problem on two Tilt 2s now. Looks like the glue leaks out of the side of the plastic over the lcd. Both phones did this on the right side of the screen.
Just in case anyone turns this up in a search like I did and can't swap the phone thru their carrier....
Global Parts Direct sells the ATT versions of these, though the LCD was out of stock at the time of this posting. (I'm too much a newb to post a direct link.)
I just had the same thing happen to me and I was able to swap the phone out with AT&T.
Oddly enough, the bubble wasn't there when I called AT&T but showed up the next day. My screen was unresponsive, called, went through a ton of questions but I had gone through this before with a couple of Fuze phones.
One thing I noticed before this happened which appears to be symptomatic before the phone becomes unresponsive is a large rectangle appears on the phone's LCD. It doesn't obstruct the viewing or anything I have just noticed that it has been on all my phones that have had trouble with the LCD/digitizer.
Has anyone else noticed this?
I ordered a screen/digitizer assembly to replace mine because its cracked. I didn't want to disbond the digitizer so I ordered the whole assembly.
When I installed the new. assembly, the screen wont come on and the phone wont boot. Here is where thing started to get interesting:
1. Boot the phone with the old screen assembly and wait until the home screen shows then turn off screen.
2. Disconnect the old screen at this moment and connect the new one while the phone in sleep mode.
3. push power button to wake screen and its working and fully functional.(New one)
If I tried to reboot the phone the new screen wont come back on again. I also tried to reset and RUU and it still wont work.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions. I am in the process of returning the screen and getting another one, but i am still worried if I will be going through the same issue. One thing I didn't like about the phone is the cheap trashy components. So easy to brake and not made to be worked on.
I think I found the problem.
Well. Taking a closer look at the ribbon cable for the LCD and it appears to be the same color, but if you follow the lines, it does not look the same. I am currently waiting on a screen from a different seller and hoping to be the right one. I will keep you updated as I go forward.
Too many views, but no comment. I just hope this post going to help someone in the future. Keep in mind that sellers doesn't specified the kind of the LCD which is creating the troubles.

Did you ever replace the screen? I need to take mine apart and put a new battery and USB port in it. I'd like to know how pulling the screen went for you, if it was done.

Not that good. I watched a YouTube video that helps a Little. You have to be really careful. Watch it and let me know if you need any additional help. Removing a broken screen not that bad since its broken. Be really careful when you order your new screen because I am having trouble to fine the right one. Mine PN: 60H00741-00P . There are many PN: 60H00742-02M that aren't working for me.

The problem I have isn't the screen, but rather the battery and the USB port.. I have found both for about $20 each, but just didn't want to trash a basically brand new HTC.
Did you use a suction cup or pry it out?

I used a plastic sharp tool and you need to find the spots where you have to press on it to get it released. If you look at the first video, you will see where he marked it. those are the lock tabs that hold the assembly. The worst could happen is you may put a few dents in the plastic frame. You can order this part for around $20. A suction cup may works for you as well. Consider giving it little heat to lose the adhesive. Let me know if you still have any further questions.

I finally found a good supplier in USA for the proper kind of LCD. I spoke to him on the phone and I sent some pictures of my LCD. He has LCD part number 60H00741-00P that I been looking for. The website is https://www.gounlock.com/ If you ever call, ask for Jacky.

Before you burn me at the stake, I know the title is vague, but I do have a few questions I need answered if possible.
First things first, I have an Alcatel Pop One Touch C7. You're probably not familiar with the phone but I don't think it actually matters in this case.
Now, I dropped my phone a couple of weeks ago, and while the screen didn't crack, it is definitely not working properly. What I think happened is that the cable connecting the display to the phone is slightly dislodged. The screen shows washed up colors and seems to lag when trying to display a new "frame", for example when I type in something and the screen slowly fades in said something. I'll post pictures as soon as I can.
I tried opening the phone, but when I unscrewed the back, I saw this sticker going from the battery slot all the way to the board.
I watched a few videos showing how to "unstick" the sticker, but I don't have a heatgun or tool that can help me do so.
My question is:
Do you think this sticker is important to the phone, or can I just rip it out or cut it?

First, no, don't cut or rip anything. In my opinion, you may have cracked your display in the drop. If you have access to a UV flashlight, turn the phone off and shine the light on the display and see if you see any cracks. If you can get a hair dryer, use that in place of a heat gun. I look at it like this, it's in the phone for a reason, therefore don't break anything.

Sadly, I won't be able to do anything about the screen given two of the screws are chewed up.
I'll probably just get a new phone and leave this one around for an emergency.
