The screen on K30 5G is great - Redmi K30 5G Guides, News, & Discussion

Recently got my second K30 5G. This must be one of the best IPS-screens around. It is really crisp and bright.
I had a Mi 10T Pro a couple of weeks but sold it. It was too heavy and slippery to hold. However, something I noticed is that actually like the sceen better on K30. Its just as bright as the one on Mi 10T Pro and 120hz feels just as fluid as 144hz, however, the backlight halos around the bezels and punchole were more pronounced on Mi 10T Pro.

Mi 9 vs P20 Pro camera

Having owned a Mi 9 for almost a week now I am blown away by the quality of the camera on it. I already knew that Xiaomi brought their A game with cameras as I owned the Mi 8 and Mi 8 Pro.. but they stepped it up with the Mi 9
I actually prefer it to my P20 Pro in most cases. I took a few test images. The P20 Pro shots are grossly oversharpened and I don't find them to look as nice. What do you think?
Mh, I think the P20 pro pictures are better but Google camera > MIUI camera. The MI9 has one of the best (if not the best) sensors on the market, a true 48mp sensor ^^ try google camera, you'll probably like it!

P30 vs P30 Pro (vs S10+ vs S10)

I've been trying out both the P30 pro and P30. (I also tried the S10+ and S10 snapdragon shortly). I'll give me opinions. Note I'm coming from a Sony Xperia Z5 Compact (4.6in phone)
The P30 pro vs S10+ and P30 vs S10 feel exactly the same in size but the Huawei feel much heavier. The P30 and S10 fit in my pocket more comfortably and felt better in my hand. I felt the P30 pro and S10+ a little too big and uncomfortable. In my shirt pocket, it felt strange as it dragged my shirt down.
The button placement on the Samsung is terrible. The power button is way too high and they put the rest of the buttons directly across. So when you reach up, you keep hitting the other buttons.
I found that on the samsungs, my palm was hitting the edges very often even after configuring a larger edge area. I did not have this issue with the huawei.
I found the fingerprint and face unlock much faster on the Huawei phones
I used Nova Launcher so I didn't notice a whole lot of difference between One UI and EMUI. I actually felt it was harder to find things in settings on the Saumsung. Overall usage was about the same.
The samsung supports MST which lets you pay nearly anywhere where the huawei only works with NFC. Overall, its nice to have but not that big of a deal
The p30 pro doesnt have a headphone jack. I dont use it very often so when I do, I don't mind using an adapter
In terms of idle drain with SIM removed and only on WIFI, I didnt find much difference between the samsung and huawei. However with the SIM inserted, I found the samsung lasted significantly longer (10-20%). I found the P30 pro lasted a good 20%-30% or so longer than the P30. Now it was hard to make sure they were configured exactly the same but they all lasted at least two days.
I travel alot and when I'm flying I like to record tracks. The samsungs recorded a better accuracy than the Huawei. However, when I reviewed the tracks from the actual path, I found they were about the same. All were better than my old phone
Camera: I found that the P30 pro's OIS was useful at night as it was able to get a focused photo much more easily than the P30. However, if I took my time and held very still, the two were about the same. P30 pro was still able to be brighter. Unless it was super dark, I found the "photo" mode more useful than "night" mode as I didnt have to wait as long. Night mode was far better on the Huawei vs Samsung though. Now Huawei will make dark photos look like they are taken during the day vs Samsung which look more like the actual scenario. The saumsung phones are supposed to have OIS, but I found them just as blurry as the P30.
During the day, I felt they were all about equal here. I thought the samsung photos were a little sharper and better depth. Overall, I think the Samsung photos "look" better but they all look good. It also has a wider wide angle lens which can be useful in tight areas. When using Super Macro mode, on the P30 you can use any camera. On the P30 pro, you can't use the 5X. Therefore, you can get the P30 much closer with its 3X. Speaking of zoom, I found the 3X more useful than the 5X in typical situations
The samsung display is much better than the Huawei. With the higher resolution, its much clearer. Also, its capable of getting much dimmer (for example on the always on screen).
I know the p30 doesnt have wireless charging but I never use it so it doesnt matter
Overall, I think I prefer Huawei over Samsung mainly for the better night performance. There are lots of conditions where your lighting might not be so great so its good to have that option. Between the P30 pro and P30, I prefer the P30 due to its size and more useful zoom. However, not having OIS is a big deal so I might try to live with the P30 pro.
considering the locked bootloader situation I'd personally avoid huawei but it might not be a factor for you
huawei have been a really bad experience for me personally
Nite bed comfort
I'm undecided between a P30 Pro and an S10 Plus,
mainly for the comfort of the display: they say the Samsung is better.
I tried a P30 Pro for a while and in low light (in the evening in bed, the moment when I use it the most) after a while my eyes get tired, more than my old Xperia Z3.
From this point of view, can Samsung be better?
Even the colors of the display seem a little tending to red on Huawei, possible?
Do you think they are paranoid and that the display of the Huawei is not so exaggeratedly more tiring than the S10?

If you plan to upgarade to MI 9T PRO...

Don't!
I've swapped my mi8 for mi9tpro two weeks ago, and man did I made a mistake:
- mi8 is much comfortable to hold in hand
- mi8 has unmistakable and fast as hell fingerprint reader (fpr), mi9tp has hit/miss and slow fpr.
- face unlock is unusable and slow on mi9tp, on mi 8 works i every light scenario and it is instant.
- battery life is similar on both devices (5-6H SOT)
- gcam works perfectly on mi8, on mi9tp it uses too high iso values and it crashes a lot
- speed is similar on both phones, but eu rom on mi8 is perfect and was much speedier for me then mi9tp
- only thing that i like on mi9tpro is video with ultrawide camera, but man, it is not worth the money.
Anyway sold mi9tpro, a buyer should pick it up this afternoon. Bought mint condition 128GB mi8, and saved 200E
Thanks for your opinions, surely it'll give an idea to users.
I was thinking of doing the same.Selling mi8 and buying mi9t pro or OnePlus 7.I m closer to OnePlus now.Thanks.
Can i ask how much have you bought mi8 128? (Used i believe).

200€ used, mint condition, in Croatia.
My friend has op7p, it is too big and heavy for me, and curved screen is inconvenience.

Wow, thanks for your input. I was about to sell mine for the same price here in BiH, but I was concerned about the size and handling...and I was counting on much better battery.
Maybe non pro model is better choise in therms of battery life...

can completely agree your opinion, i had the same with a MI8 and the MI9, MI8 was a superior phone and as i switched to the mi9 there was a lot i was complaining about, ... especially the missing OIS in camera.
Mi8 with google cam is unbeatable so i can feel with you !
Good, to know that. Now i was think about , that i sell my MI8 256gb and i buy the MI9T PRO 128gb.So, i stay by MI8. Thx
If anyone needs a cheaper phone, or maybe wanting to a buy a phone to give as a gift.
I bought my 15 yr old daughter a Xiaomi A3 and I must say that I am really impressed with its speed, excellent camera, and overall beauty. Plus it comes with Android One, and she loves it. no doubt that it is perfect for a teenager, parent, wife or girlfriend and with its 665 processor its faster than I expected.
Finally the screen resolution may only be 720P. However the Amoled panels makes the lower PPI, hardly noticeable, and the colors are much better when comparing the A3 panel to 1080 LCD panels.
Remember 1 thing mi 9T pro its still new device that need some time to be stable of any rom also how they got same sot? Mi 9 t pro got 4k mah and snap 855 its kinda got reduced consumption of battery so maybe you dint try it much? I can agree about OIS at camera point.

Do you mean the camera on Mi8 is superior to Mi9?
I thought the closed loop motor without OIS is better than open loop motor with OIS
https://www.gizchina.com/2019/02/17/mi-9-closed-loop-motor-explained/
According to DxOMark," .....the Mi 9 is the best Xiaomi device we have tested so far".

Its a subject matter, but my opinion is the MI8 camera WITH OIS and google Cam is better than Mi9 camera without OIS.
I have a Mi8 (now my girlfriends phone) and had a Mi9 and have done a big comparison between both phones. My conclusion was to sell the Mi9 because the Mi8 does greater Images than the Mi9.
I think we both know how much value we should give to DxOMark ...
Its just a subject feeling for me and my opinion because of my personal comparison.
I've to say i got the Mi9 in the early days and i think xiaomi did a big improvement in topic software on this phone and also a camera improvement but just for me:
When comparing my Huawei P30 Pro images with my girlfriends Mi8 Images, i'm again and again blown away by the colors (gcam) and HDR+ on this phone.
My biggest disadvantage is the lack of a ultra wide angle lens in the Mi8, if it had this, i would sell my p30 pro and buy a Mi8 again
Gcam Apk

Can you specify which version/modder of Gcam you use on Mi8?
Thank you.

Thanks so much for your comments.
I too have been using Mi8 for over a year, and am wondering if should upgrade to Mi9 or 9T Pro.
Now you pointed out there isn't much improvement, I think I'll hold on to it until the next model comes up.
Cheers.

Yes, as i said, i had both phones and just for me the camera of the Mi8 was better. Even the fingerprintscanner on the Mi8 is insane instead of the Mi9's indisplay fingerprint reader.
By the way, my Mi9 unit had a big battery drain issue, this was the main reason beside the camera for sending them back. In fly mode everything was fine, but when enabling data the battery drains extremely fast i couldn't fix this issue.
As a Huawei P30 Pro owner i can say: if you've a Mi8 with google cam and do not need necessarily an ultra wide angle lens, play around with some gcam ports, find the right one and settings for you and you're lucky.
The phone does exiting images even compared with all Flagship smartphones on the market right NOW.
what about Mi9 Pro 5G version ?

I also want to know this! Because well, it's expected for the facial unlock to work worse than in the Mi8 because the Mi8 has a 3d face sensor and infrared light and all those dedicated hardware.. that's why the notch is so wide.

7T Pro, 8 Pro or Note 10+?

Hi,
I can get both the Note 10+ (Exynos) and 7T Pro quite cheap through my job. I can also wait for the 8 Pro. I feel like the S20 Ultra is too expensive for a phone. I guess 5G will be delayed due to Covid 19 anyway.
Which would you recommend for photo/video camera and general performance?
Battery are on par
performance of course 7t pro is better but almost unnoticable.
Warp charge is great.
90 fps but not working on most 3d apps.
But.
Note10+ has
Certify water resistance.
more on features, customization and themes benefit from one UI.
Unread badge build-in.
S-Pen.
Wireless charge.
some feature using curve screen vs curve for nothing.
Samsung DEX is one of useful feature for me.
for me if I have to pick one of them for free , of course note10+
But if I have to pay, I'll pick 7 pro (not 7t pro, not much different and ways cheaper).
I'm using 7t pro now.

Question Just got Nord 2 5g, previously had 9 Pro

I smashed up my 9 pro so while its off for repair i got a nord 2 and im not joking this phone is so much better. the dimensions are better, the 9 pro is too long and skinny. the flat display is 100x better, i told myself i would never get a curved display against after my samsung s6 edge but reviewers convinced me by saying the curves on the 9 pro where subtle, flat is so much better and curved displays shouldnt exist. it has the same battery capacity and charging speed. it has a 90hz refresh rate which to me is an upgrade as well it means less battery wasted and my 9 pro felt extremely stuttery because of its adaptive refresh rate each update is different, last update chrome was a stuttery disgrace. it has the same haptics, the same main sensor as far as i know but on that note i was never impressed with the 9 pro's camera, i took some pictures in pro mode which is supposed to have hasselblad colours 10.0.0.0.1 192.168.1.254 and ive never seen grass look so fake and luminous green in my life. i took 1 indoor picture of my dog on the nord 2 and im convinced the 9 pro could have never taken such a picture, the photo processing seems way improved.
i cant fathom how this is 1/3rd of the price pretty much. i wont be getting a flagship oneplus again.
I'm sick of OPN2 , lack of updates for long , long time , poor technical support , awful MTK optimisation for sites and apks . Meantime I bought also Samsung A52s , totally disappointed again ... It has some hybrid hardware to minimize the manufacturer costs but a great support . Battery also better but.... I didn't liked both at all so for a couple weeks I bought Nothing Phone .
Nothing compares with it !
It's awesome !!!
