[TWRP 2.8.7.0 64bit a51_ul/a51_tuhl (Europe/Australia) RELEASE

Hello
Here is attached link to TWRP 2.8.7.0 for Qualcomm's version of 64bit htc_a51ul and htc_a51tuhl. Not sure if it will work with htc_a51dtul (dual sim version for India/Asia) but if someone want to test, please do.
To flash phone, use below fastboot as HTC was change version for 64bit bootloader, so if You use Linux on Your PC, get My version, put together with recovery.img in same folder, restart phone into bootloader and execute:
Code:
chmod 755 fastboot
Code:
./fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
NOTE that dot and slash are IMPORTANT. If You skip it, will not use My fastboot but other which probably not work and You will get error flashing.
If You are on windows, please use latest version of fastboot for windows.
As usual, TRWP sources are on Omnirom github, device sources are on My github.
NOTE THAT YOU NEED TO HAVE 64bit BOOTLOADER (Lollipop installed on device)
Happy rooting
CAUTION: I am not responsible if You delete and/or brick Your device!!!

No 64bit sources. HTC push OTA's but not release sources on htcdev.com, what is very unusual as GPL say that they MUST to release sources. Nevermind, We can handle that part soon with reverse engineering.
Only what is, let say, close to a51 Qualcomm hardware is sources for Desire 826 (a52) but with lots of changes and patches.
Thank You, tested on A51_UL EU. Works great!

Hello.
I tried once to change my stock recovery img but I ended up with a non compatible one and it has been impossible to find a good one.
I can only use my PC and ADB to flash one.
I'm using windows 10 and this model htc_a51tuhl. I have ADB and everything installed.
When i try to flash the recovery you posted: CMD "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", it says "invalid sparse file format". I assume that the file is too big, but why?
Isn't it supposed to work? or it's only for linux users? Can someone inlight me please.
I'm struggling to find a working recovery to root my phone and so if someone share a working one for me, that would be very very nice.

Cant update TWRP to 3.0.0 (Castor_windy version)

Hi Guys,
I've got a SGP511 WiFi only (castor_windy), with root access and an unlocked bootloader. but to install AOSP 7.1 I need to update my version of TWRP to 3.0.0.
I installed TWRP via TabZ2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.26 batch file and can access recovery but every time i select install look at my SD card and change to images and select the castor_winsy 3.0.0 image i dont get an option to install to recovery i only get kernel how do i resolve this ?
I have re flashed FW (KitKat) via flashtool loads of times
rooted
installed TabZ2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.26 batch file
and every time i get the same option.... cant flash to recovery or boot only kernel
i have attached a screenshot so that nobody thinks i am going mad
can you please help me thanks :fingers-crossed:
It's been a while since I used TWRP 2.8.XX...so no idea what's the issue there but I'd just flash TWRP recovery via fastboot. Worked for me without any problems :good:

Hi ... Is that using the ADB fastboot recovery TWRP.img?
I am on KitKat just wondering if that's why it won't work have you got to be on 6.01 ?
Well, actually it shouldn't matter on which Android version you are, but to have the latest boot.img and radio.img installed I'd flash the latest stock ROM available here on XDA which means by the way having TWRP 3.0.2.0 as well and after that you might be ready for AOSP 7.1
Just have look at kulvertti's thread in the "General" subforum. Since you have already intalled a custom recovery there shouldn't be any problems.
Lockeddual recovery is not compatible with any custom rom
Please follow the instructions in the thread

NVIDIA Shield TV 2017 Root with developers image and Magisk, OREO (Shield 7.0.2)

While I tried to root using TWRP and all the suggested ways i continued to get errors, bootloops, corrupted boot, etc. I downloaded the rooted developers OS Image, then used magisk to patch the boot image. If anyone has any interest in the Boot.img or the developers OS image, let me know i can post links and instructions if needed. This will require the bootloader unlocked (i have read you can unlock with a keyboard, but i never had any luck and used a controller). Please reply with requests if needed.
Just one question: When you install the NEXT developer image, how will you go about retaining Magisk and your boot.img patch? Don't need a step-by-step-- just in simple terms. Curious.
EDIT: Found my answer: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77162700&postcount=85

What version are you on? I downloaded the full zip, put the unzipped file on a USB from a computer. Then Took the USB to my Shield ran magisk manager 6.0 and installed, selecting patch boot, selecting the file from the USB. Magisk places the patched boot into my download folder where i pulled back onto my computer the fastboot flash boot boot.img (or patched_boot.img whatever the file is called that got patched).
I have the patched 7.1 boot.img right now. I have the full developers files, with drivers and patch all in it for 7.1 with magisk manager if you want i can put it on my Google drive for the whole thing. It is 1.09 Gb for the full files.

Download the full image from nvidia here

I don't know what the differences are between the dev image and the regular version. I believe the dev version is just pre-rooted. I think it will work, but i have only tested on the dev image. Flash at your own risk.
Hi there,
I need help. Im looking for a ROM thats flashable with TWRP so i can install it. Previously I had Lineageos installed but it wasnt running smooth enough.
I cant install the rooted recovery file from Nvidia with TWRP.
The reason why im wanting to use TWRP is because i want to use Magisk with the Shield.
Ive allready patched a stock boot image with magisk version 17.1
my current Twrp version is 3.2.1-1
Thank you very much
cheers

Yes, as far as i know you have to have an unlocked bootloader. You plug in your Sheild VIA a-a USB, you might have to install the sheild drivers. Press AB on your controller and power on. That will get you into fastboot. You have to run the unlock bootloader command WARNING this will wipe your DATA. All the drivers you need will be on this page available to download https://developer.nvidia.com/shield-open-source and for instructions on how-to goto here http://nv-tegra.nvidia.com/gitweb/?...;f=README_NEW_SHIELD;hb=rel-24-uda-r1-partner (the instructions tell how to do flash each file, i found it faster to do the flash-all.bat, but be patient, i think it takes about 30 minutes)

TWRP: Porting for a/b partitioned devices

Please has anyone been able to port TWRP recovery for an a/b partitioned device, I mean devices that contains the recovery ramdisk in the boot.img and doesn't have a separate recovery partition.

Please has anyone been able to port TWRP recovery for an a/b partitioned device, I mean devices that contains the recovery ramdisk in the boot.img and doesn't have a separate recovery partition.
Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by "port"?
TWRP is supported on multiple A/B devices such as the Google Pixel. However, TWRP does not support the compression necessary to replace the stock recovery in the boot image, so TWRP may only be used "live", where the TWRP image is booted via command, instead of being flashed to /boot.

By porting I mean changing some files, like copying the kernel and other device specific files to a prebuilt TWRP boot image for a related device.
For example I was able to do that for my android 8 based device and it worked flawlessly, but my problem is that I don't know how to do that for a/b partitioned devices cause my device is not officially supported and i can't seem to find any unofficial version for my device, plus my phone's kernel source and device are not published on GitHub or anywhere.
But some devices specially some Mediatek and Unisoc based devices don't support live boot and so it's necessary two flash it to the boot partition.
Finally built twrp for this device after so many attempts, here is the file for those that owns this device too.
NOTE: This file is for KG5j variant not KG5k or any other variant

After flashing run fastboot reboot, it will reboot directly to TWRP recovery enter your lock screen password to unecrypt data, then click on advanced install recovery ramdisk and select the twrp.img you downloaded or click on advanced then install current TWRP and let the recovery do the rest.
Check it out on hovatek forum
