[GUIDE][TWRP_3.5.2+MAGISK] Root Access for Redmi 9 (Galahad) - Redmi 9 / Poco M2 Guides, News, & Discussion

HI,
This setup was done in a new redmi 9 from Amazon in Europe, code name Galahad, people say here that is the same as the Lancelot, not sure at all due to some soft bricks following tutorials for the lancelot version, i left here the details:
Device: Redmi 9
Code Name: Galahad
MIUI: Global Estable 11.0.9(QJCEUXM)
Model: 10 QP1A
I bricked this device following the tutorials:
https://unofficialtwrp.com/xiaomi-redmi-9-root-twrp-3-4-1/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...edmi-9-lancelot-indian-prime-miui-11.4205307/
The procedure is way simple, but that recovery and those of the same source always failed in the touchscreen of twrp.
It got locked into a bootloop, always booting to the recovery, luckily i got adb working in twrp so i did a reboot to the fastboot and there i had some choice to do with the device.
Well after searching i found a new twrp working well for my device: twrp-3.5.2_10-0-lancelot.img
Well the name says lancelot so maybe is the same and my issues were related to the miui version....
-Requirements
1-Unlocked bootloader ( i did under Linux with https://www.xiaomitool.com/V2/) Works great in linux!
2-Fastboot
2-twrp-3.5.2_10-0-lancelot.img
3-misc.bin
4-vbmeta.img
2-Install TWRP
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.5.2_10-0-lancelot.img
fastboot flash misc misc.bin
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
fastboot boot twrp-3.5.2_10-0-lancelot.img
3-Install Magisk
When you are in the Twrp recovery just Install the Magisk-v21.4.zip.
4-Final things
This is working in a MIUI 11, in few days i'll update to 12 and will see if all works.
Cheers,

Did you try the newest Magisk v23.0 ?

I bought galahad yesterday. Still on MIUI 11 and want to try this method. Is it fully working?

good magisk 22

V12.0.2.0.QJCEUXM here, it will work?

yes

@kryz have you already updated to miui 12?
i have V12.0.2.0.QJCEUXM galahad_eea in cpu_z, it will work too?
i want only to root, i dont need twrp

yes
work

just instal twrp.
magisk instal from twrp.
this version 20.4.
i am tested 22 working too.

if error on boot.
you just instal kernel(i am use strombreaker v1.0 in redmi 9)

I have Redmi 9(Lancelot global). I want to root my phone using magisk v23.0, which is one MIUI version 12.0.4. Will the TWRP 3.5.2 work in miui 12.0.4 or i have to downgrade to miui 12.0.1?

i have mui 12.0.4 global lancelot and twrp 3.5.2 works fine

And if i want to unroot and go back to stock miui recovery do i just flash the fastboot ROM?

you unroot aim to get 2 imei show? if that's your goal will not be achieved by just flash the global rom. see the discussion I made on the forumfor

I don't know what it is that you're trying to say. I don't need to remove factory reset protections, I need to get back fastboot. Fastboot only broke when I flashed the misc.bin file

Phone is hard bricked now. Won't even show the Redmi logo. People kept telling me Xiaomi phones were great for development but they're **** in every single way. $130 down the drain for no reason

Edit: I'm sorry I didn't see the attached files, I'm new and this is all ver overwhelming.

That's a vendor/fake/tampered/ unofficial ROM.
You need to flash the official one.
Find the official fastboot rom here
http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
Here's how to flash: (it will user ERASE DATA so backup)
http://en.miui.com/thread-370620-1-1.html

To make it clear.
The link i gave you was fastboot ROMs.
RN4 MTK (nikel):
http://update.miui.com/updates/v1/fullromdownload.php?d=nikel_global&b=F&r=global&n=
Since you're using the fake rom, its recommended to use the fastboot method through MiFlash in PC.
To replace the fake with original one.
Check the link for the procedure.

Your device is MBF so it has MediaTek chipset. You should download the following:
Redmi Note 4 MTK Latest Global Stable Version Fastboot File Download
And you must use Mi Flash to flash the zip files in that list (those are fastboot images).
If you want to flash via recovery, you must use this zip file, but as GabrielScott said just above, it's better to use Mi Flash.
Trying Redmi Note 4 MTK Latest Global Stable Version Fastboot File Download flashing by miflash tool and replying if i get restart problem or any app crashing error.. thank for your reply.
In tutorial images . its taken 1800sec for complete and my just finished flashing in 192s ..

Ahh thanks for letting me know that global works. I chose Xiaomi.eu.
For me TWRP stayed since the first time I flashed it. Only had to format data once just the first time using it. Since then it's been working fine. Even with finger print and stuff enabled

Hi. BTW, which Magisk version have you installed? Now my TWRP is permanent but not able to get Magisk running, both V18.1 and 19 causing bootloop.
Will be trying V18.
Hope it work.
Update:
Fail to install Magisk from v18 to 19.
When flash v16., reboot to bootloader, cannot boot to Recovery, required to flash by Miflash again to get phone working.
Follow the other thread of flashing rom + magisk = no Magisk after bootup.
Not sure where I go wrong.
I am sorry if I am in the wrong thread.

Hi! First of all I wanted to thank you for your work, I managed to install latest Mi A1 PE without any problem and perfectly running!
Second, is there any way to update the software without clean flashing and repeating the whole procedure? Like idk, dirty flashing updated boot and system?
Anyway, thank you again!

Question How can I flash miui 14 recovery rom?

Hello,
a couple days ago i noticed that there was the first miui 14 build (miui_ENUMA_V14.0.23.1.4.DEV_006a58c7f8_13.0) available. Since it's a recovery rom i'm struggling to find a way to flash it.
I saw an unoffical ofox build in this forum but the download link didn't work.
I hope someone could help me.
Thanks
The only method to flash recovery firmware is by TWRP or OFRP custom recovery. Right now there is none of these availble for enuma yet. So only fastboot firmware that is possibly flashed for now. I already flashed the latest fastboot firmware and installed A13 GSI ROM.

There are other options to possibly flash .zip patch file by using Xiaomi ADB in this link or Xiaomi Tool in this link. I tried this on my Windows 7 PC but not able to flashed any .zip files. Maybe Windows 10 or above may get this to work well. There is also Linux version for these tools. You can try it too.

Hey, thanks for sharing.
May I ask where you found that build? I can only find ArrowOS for the non-pro version.

It's GSI ROM not Custom ROM for any specific device. You can google GSI ROMs and look for the ROMs that you like the most. I also flashed this ROM to my Redmi K30 5G.
But if you are using such Xiaomi peripherals as pen or pad keyboard, GSI ROMs do not support them. You need to look for the Custom ROMs that are built for your device to support them.
I don't have any Xiaomi peripherals. So using GSI ROMs makes no differences for me.
I have V14.0.22.12.26.DEV Fastboot ROM. How to install V14.0.23.1.9.DEV Recovery ROM?
"Can't verify update. This ROM is intended for internal testers. Make sure your account has the required permissions."
