[Q] USB Host Ubuntu v0.2 - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there something extra I have to do to activate USB Host on the HD2 with v0.2? Hosting was working fine with 0.1 but the same cable refuses to recognise with 0.2 now. What's more is, it doesn't even come up in the kernel at boot anymore.

119 views and no one knows? Please guys I need to get this sorted. I'm going to try something that you all may be interested in. Bumping.

Anyone else got any ideas?

Is your phone charging when you are booting on Ubuntu?
USB Host is working for me when I disable the 'USB charging' in WM. If I enable it, my phone is charging while using ubuntu, but I can't use USB Host at all.
Something strange btw: when I boot on Ubuntu charging, and then I disconnect the cable, my charging LED keep working (orange led, as if I was charging) without any power source!

Very interesting information ... post it HERE please and don't forget to tell us, which card you use!
wifi card
Yeah i know, i totally would post on in the Dev section but i have under 10 posts with XDA and unfortunately i cant post there.( dumb )
the card i used is a "alfa network 802.11g high power usb" (AWUS036H)
the only reason why it powers up is because I modified the cable to feed power in, same thing could be acheived by plugging the cable into a powered USB hub, except i wanted to eventually run this on a rechargeable battery.
it seems like i have the old version of busy box in the chroot session, any ideas on forwarding the new one onto it, i have ver 1.9 on android and 1.3 on the chroot session.
thx

I always wondered, if a Y-cable usually used for USB HDDs might work ... one end for data, the other plugged into a USB hub for power.

Would be a nice solution for the SGS2. On the Asus Transformer the dock should have enough power, I think.

Usb problem on E10i

I have a non-original USB cable for my x10 mini to charge and connect to the PC but it only charges. When I connect the phone to the PC with the cable, the green LED lights and nothing happens. There is no sign of connection neither on the phone nor on the PC. I have gone through all the USB ports shown in the "Devices Management" and there is nothing there. I have tried every USB port on my PC.
Is there something I can do to correct this problem?
P.S. I don't have the original cable because I broke it accidentally.
A lot of cables don't work for power+data. I also broke my original cable and I now use the one from my Amazon kindle because it works for both. I also know samsung cables work so see if you can get hold of either of them.

Thanks a lot, my friend. I will try a Samsung one if I find. I should have realised that the Samsung ones work because I once transfered some music to a friend of mine who has Samsung, but he doesn't have his cable.

I think most cables it's a case of power or data, not both. I have the kindle cable that I mentioned that works lie stock and a cable I bought to replace the stock that only does power and my dad's ZTE blade cable that only does data. Any cable advertised as power and data should work, if not you should be able to return it as not working as advertised. Well, you can in the UK at least.

[Dev] USB OTG Tests

Recently google said OTG isnt supported on the nexus 4 device
So curiosity has got the better of me and I've requested for people to test a few things, this is a development thread created for USB OTG and getting it to work.
What we know:
The snapdragon s4 soc support otg (running all the time reads mdm as usb device)
Slimport support OTG
kernel supports OTG
Unsure about ROM
This is created from my mobile device, when i receive net access ill update this more
Kernel i built 2 weeks ago or so, supports OTG
If anyone with an OTG Cable can test and provide both logcat and dmesg when plugging in a device, to make it easier would prefer ps3 controller connecting. Ontop of that do 2 tests 1 without supplying power and 1 with supplying power.
Newer kernel http://d-h.st/o0O
Installation ZIP, http://d-h.st/o0O
Works on any ROM
Remember to modify build.prop and add ro.usb_host=1
Think ive just figured it out new kernel will be uploaded & mod lets hope it works need testers
Ill test the kernel to make sure its good and boots fine then ill drop the kernel, but i can only test to a certain extent i dont own an OTG Cable, also youll need to modify @ ROM level

I don't have a PS3 controller, so this was tested using a standard USB thumbdrive, i also don't have a splitter to make it powered, so i'm afraid i can't test this either, this was the thumb-drive plugged directly into the phone:

I've tried it and flashed on stock rom. Boots fine but OTG doesn't work. The otg cable + thumb drive are working fine on Galaxy S2.
EDIT: I also added ro.usb_host=1 to build.prop
Do i need some app to see if USB thumbdrive working?
I flashed the kernel, added ro.usb_host=1, where do i see if USB thumbdrive mounted?
I have:
- an OTG cable
- a power USB Y cable
- a powered USB Hub
* USB keyboard/mouse

is it a known issue that N4 doesn't have USB +5V power supply?
So what's the purpose of this test? even if you manage to make it work, it won't be useful

Pay attention. He asked for testers to supply their own power as well. If a setup with external power is useful for even one person and he gets it working, then this has served a purpose.
Ordered my Nexus 4 on the 13th. Still waiting.

Yes, OTG was disabled by Google during developement because they found out it couldn't supply 5V

I believe in the general complaint thread about no OTG someone spoke of a phone that wasn't able to supply 5V either, but it was infact doable after some modifications(software ones), so it may very well be that similar modifications here could work
Somethings funny
Cause if google advertised the device as USBOTG supported, then theyve setup the kernel for usbotg enabled, theyre saying the issue is no 5v, wouldnt supplying power bring USBOTG back? It isnt, so obviously it was taken away on purpose. If we can get around this and get USBOTG working is theee question.

[Q] Anyway to root without connecting via USB?

Hi, newbie here. My GT-P7500 won't connect to PC, red X appear on the battery icon. I tried connecting with a new original USB cable at local store, still the same. Maybe someone knows an advance way to root this device without connecting via USB? I know this is an old device, I should just thinking about getting a newer device, but it's just not my style to dump things knowing it is still usable. So thank you for anything you might suggest to me.
Uhm... The red X should be on the battery icon - USB charging is disabled by default due to the really slow charging time.
So, unless there are other problems, you don't seem to have a USB connection problem at all.

Try connecting it again using different cables. Go ahead and check out if your computer reads it. You can try it on a different computer or just check if MTP Application is enabled and if USB Debugging is enabled under Settings.

Anyone been able to do anything with a Facebook Portal?

Been looking at the Facebook Portal, it's got a USB-C port on the back but according to Facebook's support it's only used "in the factory", so I'm assuming maybe that's something they might use with a flashing tool to reset damaged units. Has anyone messed around with one/found out anything about how it might work? I've noticed that, at least with mine, if I hold down power and the volume up button while it's booting, the screen remains black but the mic light is still on. Thinking this may be some kind of recovery mode perhaps.

Oh definitely not. Wouldn't be caught dead buying one. XD Was gifted one as an early christmas gift by a friend, but trying to decide if it's something I can do anything with before I maybe... return it and get a better alexa-enabled device. Feeling really bad about that though considering they wanted to use it to communicate.
Ah-ha! Alexa enabled, but what powers it? Is it some open source thing? AOSP even?

From what I’ve been able to gather, it’s running on some form of AOSP with a custom Portal skin- haven’t been able to get much more info than that though as the info on the device past what FB has put out publicly is pretty slim. Definitely doesn’t surprise me that it’s an android device though considering that’s just about all FB seems to develop for outside of the web (Oculus Go, Facebook Home, etc.)
Would be really interesting to try using Discord on this device though, and possibly finding a way to disable FB functions. Might make it a good gift then, if not it’s making it really hard to hold onto it.
Edit: This is my source for AOSP, assuming it’s the “Android Open Source Framework” mentioned:
https://techcrunch.com/2018/10/08/facebook-portal/amp/
I got my hands on one (free gift from company) but I'm trying to figure out what to do with it too.
Hello everyone, sorry I am late to the party. It is definitely android. If you run the chromium browser and attempt to open something like a pdf file, chromium will give you an error and ask for download permissions. This error message also gives you a link to the applications settings page from where you get access to some of the settings. No permissions sadly. You can however go in to the battery optimization settings and filter for all apps and get a full list of everything installed. As can be seen in these images on imgur /a/QWqs0pP

We're stoked. We've been using the 15 inch Portal in our conference room. Hooked up a usb-c to HDMI adapter, ran it to our conference room 4K television and bam! Absolutely gorgeous.
Works flawlessly as an output, and even audio (as would be expected) is now running through the monitor.
Oh niiiice ! I actually asked facebook portal customer support, and they said nothin could be done with the usb c port ! It really is a shame cuz some people probably want to output to a bigger screen !
I want to try if usb c headphones and microphones will work. I don't have any around though !
I've tested and seen that I can use the port as a usb c PD charger, it charges my macbook pro and oneplus 6
Maybe we can figure out a way to use ADB to get us into the portal ?
---------- Post added at 05:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:51 PM ----------
Oh wait, never mind charging my macbook pro. It does so only intermittently, I should've guessed the power was too low !
So, any luck unlocking the bootloader or even getting ADB out the USB-C ?

USB-C to 3.5 mm audio only alternate mode?
Can anyone please test and let me know if a USB-C to 3.5mm analog audio jack also works - for 3.5 mm jack headphones or speaker out? More specifically, an active adapter because a passive one may not work. Such as this one: amazon.com/Tranesca-Headphone-Adapter-Compatible-Google/dp/B07M6Z2KJ4
What I do know from reading this thread is the Facebook Portal's:
- USB-C Video out (DisplayPort Alternate mode) to monitor works along with audio (monitor passthrough)
- It works as a USB-C power delivery charger
But if audio thru DisplayPort works means only audio to 3.5 mm jack will also work?
Interestingly, the official documentation (portalfb.me/2NAdtz1) claims the audio will continue to come from Portal's speakers. But people here claim it is transmitted to the monitor?
the portal burnt due to an electricity hazard overseas.
I just bought the newest Facebook Portal Mini. it comes with a browsers from Facebook. I was able to make a phone call using duo.google.com then the next day.. I lost permission to the camera: it keeps asking me for permissions.
I think they have some kind of firewall that blocks unusual behaviors

I don't really know how to do those things... But it tried scanning my portal for open ports, no ip adp connection possible. And then, with usb c connected nothing happens with adb. It can't seem to see it !
I tried enabling hidden developpers options by pressing a lot everywhere in the settings, but no luck !
Alrighty, I've got an update for you guys. It seems like FB locked out that PDF trick sadly. However, I found out that if you restart your portal and hold all three buttons down, then plug in the USB-C, it appears as a device named "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COM3)". Based on what I've seen on a few threads here, that's a utility for reflashing and backing up device firmware. I believe we may be able to do stuff with this.
I am looking into getting the FB Portal TV. If the party on the other end of the connection is using their smart phone or tablet, does the image I am seeing become altered from wide screen to a vertical image
or does the unit adapt to keep the screen filled without becoming distorted in some way?

I have not made any progress at all. I keep checking to see if anyone has done anything at all, but I think these devices are not too popular. Hard to find any information on them at all
So I was able to get fasboot access to my Facebook Portal+ (1st Gen).
If you plug in the power and hold down the vol down + power button. It will show the portal logo on the screen and on a black box it says "Please Reboot...". If you connect to the usb-c port then it looks like there is fastboot access to the device. It's definitely locked down, but it's a start.
I've been trying to figure out how to get adb / sideload access for a while now and this is as close as I've been able to get. I'll let you know if I find out more.
