Surround Flashing notes, by ansar. - Surround Windows Phone 7 Development

Dear forum members,
In case you are interested about rom flashing in your device as:
- Installing a new radio version and / or
- Trying another imgfs of other official builds
then you can post your device about info, including operator info, in order to be developed.
I will also provide an analysis of the the rom:
RUU_Mondrian_Cingular_US_1.03.502.07_5.51.09.06_22.30.50_RELEASE
provided by Football, in order for all to know what there is inside.
Flashing is as simple as that:
Set the device in boot loader mode
- From power on, press power off and hold volume down and wait up to tricolor screen be displayed. Release volume down.
- From power off, press power on and hold volume down and wait up to tricolor screen be displayed. Release volume down.
Connect it to your laptop/PC with a USB cable and double click on the provided ROMUpdateUtility.exe
Follow the on screen instructions as usual.
In case of emergency, say if flashing has stuck in 0% or other percentage do this:
Press and Hold the power button until the device will reboot.
Reboots to normal operation due to it is connected with the USB cable to a PC/Laptop.
Important note:
We flash a ROM when we have an initial ROM backup for our device
in order to flashback again to our initial ROM.
We can identify our device rom version, see this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883627
Regards,ansar.

so what exactly is RUU_Mondrian_Cingular_US_1.03.502.07_5.51.09.06_22 .30.50?
is it an update
if not whats the difference between this and what im running now?

Check the other thread squidbutt.

I have read the entire thread, and found no defiant answer to there being difference so I asked elsewhere

Ready to Help
I've been with XDA since my Tilt, through my Tilt2, countless number of friend's phones, and onto the HTC Surround. I've done very limited programming and the such and only opened a kitchen once or twice. I would really like to help in the development of making the OS a better place to be, (as opposed to complaining about it) but I do not know where to start. The Tilt2 has a new ROM out almost daily at times in high production. If someone could explain to me how we get the tools to get the ball rolling, how i can help, or general knowledge so that "users" on this board can become more involved/have a better insight of what happens behind the scenes, that would be awesome.
I love this forum and turn people to it on an almost daily basis. Thank you to everyone who makes this happen.

Hi,
It is a development phase rigth now and we should wait for a consolidation of know how.
Thnx for commenting and supporting.

Developement
It is what happens during this "Development Stage" that I would like to know more about and be involved with. Could you be more specific, use whatever techy terms you need, etc etc, I'll try to keep up.

For people who have bricked devices, and haven't read the wiki... [email protected]!

A **NEW** feature has been added to the forum. It's called "SEARCH". It lets you find things from days-gone-by that could apply to your VERY situation! Also, a fantastic part of the site, the WIKI also has GREAT information. WIKI is like a big book of knowledge. It tells you how to FIX your brick without bugging the rest of us.
If you can't read the Wiki, and refuse to use the SEARCH button, NO ONE WILL HELP YOU FIX YOUR BRICK!
Oh, there is also one other way to fix your brick--guaranteed to make your phone stop being a problem for you... Take phone and all original accessories, and put in a box. Seal with packing tape, and bring to your local post office. PM me for the proper address to send it to (my home address, duh!) and I promise to take GOOD care of the phone! Expect it to be returned never.
Could you add in a bit for people who have not even done anything to check the wiki and use the search instead of PM/posting endless "how do i..." questions?
Ok, go easy guys.
Firstly, I suspect the type of noob who asks these sorts of questions wouldn't stop to read any posts (including this one) before going straight to the "Start New Thread" button. So this is probably just another futile effort to educate
And yes it's annoying, but we're all pretty tolerant around here aren't we? We will usually try to help noobs who ask a question, even if it's just a case of pointing them to the right page.
I find the best thing to do when confronted with a new batch of silly questions from lazy people, is to answer a couple and ignore the rest. Then log out, take a few deep breaths, and come back later!
That said, if there are any noobs reading this thread, please, please, please do use the search and the wiki before posting questions.
Yes, i have bricked device..
It's not that i didn't read wiki or did search on the forum, I simply CAN'T do anything.
I disable USB in activesync and when i connect hermes it's still says "serial"....

Yes, I agree...
Read and Search.
Otherwise the forum becomes a congested mess of repeated questions over and over.
I used to go on my 'soap box' over at TC, and even started threads on 'Search First'
When wpbear told me 'Search', I didn't get offended:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1136130&postcount=593
The people (noobs) who just show up and post a question and get insulted when asked to read up, are like someone who walks into library and expects the people reading books are there to stop what they're doing and answer questions.
Yea, it takes a little research to find what your looking for, but then you learn how to find answers for yourself.
Everyone Wins!
berdinkerdickle said:
Regarding Searching First, I have heard arguments from both sides.
So whether one has an excuse for why they start a new thread or not, the end result is a bigger problem for others. (Bazillion Threads on the Same Topic.)
Let's pretend I'm the New Guy. I just found this Forum, and now, do I first see if there is standard of expectation from me? Or do I just jump in and start doing things my way?
If I take a little time to figure out how it all works, it stays more organized, and I have only inconvenienced myself. (I did the Work for Myself) But if I just start new threads on everything I think of, I have inconvenienced others by creating more clutter for everyone else to deal with.
Starting a new thread because of not being familiar w/ how things are done may be an excuse for a noob, but one should catch on pretty quickly. And nobody should be made feel bad because they asked them to do a Search.

So we should not ask them to search?
Are you saying we should not mention the "Forum Guidline: To Search Before We Post"?
So the noob asks: (Post #1 ) 'What's the Flashing Snowflake Thingy?" We just tell him, and give him a Link?
So now the noob asks: (Post #2) "Why is my Hotsync hanging at my Contacts?" or "My computer says it Doesn't Recognize the USB Device"
So the noob just goes on, starting new Threads, everytime they need an answer.
To use an illustration:
What do you do when you go into a Library, Do you just go sit down and ask the people around you anything you want to know?
What if one of those people asked you to go and try to find the answer in one of the many books on that subject?

Your computer should not make ANY sound when you plug it in since this means you have not disabled Activesync's USB connection, please disable USB connections in Activesync... that means actually do it rather than pretend to.
Yes franula, basically untick every box in the ActiveSync "connection settings" menu, and click "Ok". You should NOT have the ActiveSync icon in your PC's system tray (next to the clock in the bottom right-hand corner).
Then put your Hermes into bootloader mode (by holding down the side "OK" button and the "Power" button, whilst poking "Reset")
Once you get the bootloader's tri-colour screen on your Hermes and you've completely disabled ActiveSync so that it is nowhere to be seen, THEN plug in the USB cable, and try mtty.....

You could have put it in a nicer way. If there are posts from newbies that are already answered in the wiki or in previous posts, we usually just point them to it.

Oh god... come in sucker.
First of all, before you even start using your phone, SIM unlock it, super CID it, install Bootloader 1.11 but not 1.04 unless you have Olipro 1.02b or you have acces to KITL, then flash every ROM you can find until sleep deprivation affects your marriage your job and you forget the name of your eldest child.
Then after two months of owning a phone that almost never is in a working state, you'll get it stuck in bootloader mode just after you suffered your first white screen of death, and in desperation you will call your carrier with a string of lies and send it back for a replacement.
Then you start the whole process again...
Have fun... not.

LOL - that is funny, but a little pessimistic.
If you have hacked your Blackjack to shreads, you will have no problem.
Start with MrVanx Upgrade Guides to see the process.
Then, once you have a feel for the bits and pieces of the process, read through the wiki and forums and you will be able to sort through the threds of relavence. It is really not THAT hard once you have done a little homework.
Most important thing - the first thing you should do is upgrade the SPL to Olipro's HardSPLv7 - do that first - that way you can recover from just about anything.
Rest assured, if you have a little experience, educate yourself and follow the guides to get started, your device will work 99% of the time. Don't fret.
I am also one of those new users and my 8525 is coming in a few days but i'm a bit technical about computers so i tend to grab it quickly, i DON'T want to play around with my mobile, i just want to unlock it, then put it to some good windows mobile 6, and then forget about it till windows mobile 7 comes, does that mean i use pof's sim unlocker v3a to unlock my phone...
alternative is Hard-SPL, if thati have seen that making your phone supercid seems dangerous and the safer s true i simply apply hard-spl on my phone? (though i don't even know what it does if its a utility or a piece of code integrated into your phone or a custom bootloader ), after applying hardspl, i simply follow the legitimate official instructions to install TyTN Mobile 6 official rom as if my 8525 was a HTC TyTN?
I just want my final goal to be Mobile 6.0 Unlocked in the safest go...

How do you know that WM5 isn't good enough for you? If the only thing you want on your phone is WM6, why didn't you buy one with this pre-installed? Maybe you should spend some more time reading before you get, and break your new toy - all the best links are already posted above and if you'd read them you wouldn't be posting these questions.

Pessimistic?
That link lists no fewer than five operating systems, for one device, all WM6!!!
Which one works??? This is ridiculous!

...head...spinning...
Thanks for the advice to everyone who gave it... I got my Hermes at 1 this afternoon and it's been sitting on my desk, charging and keeping me from really getting any work done all afternoon. I'm going to assume that all the acronyms y'all are throwing at me will be explained in the wikis...
Don't freak them out guys , get it unlock it install official go to bed happy, if you want to go crazy over installing different versions of roms all the time do so but check the safety steps first (many guides here, Mr. Vanx's is a great place to start) mind you there is no 100% safe option and most of the roms are more or less the same, you can always add cab files of things you want, it's better to stick to a clean rom. If you play with it there might be a chance you screw it... badly (even if you know what you're doing)
Me I just updated the official WM6 (which was released sooooo long later) thankfully in your case you don't have to wait.
Either way congrads on the phone and enjoy it, some small issues aside you have a great piece of hardware there.

welcome... i was like you for a while... i'm a new hermes 8525 owner too... read and learn before you really dive in... understand the terminology and jargon for a while... get used to using your phone in stock mode for a while before moving forward... being familiar with it is important... then the first thing you should install when you decide to is hardspl... good luck...
thanks again to everyone! I have to say that the MrVanx Upgrade Guides link was the best, most helpful thing anyone could have pointed me at - step-by-step instructions to flash my hermes with a new ROM. It was great. The forums also yielded CABs and all sorts of other helpful links that have set me up with a near - perfect phone.
Of course, now I'm bored. what's the next step? 'cooking' my own ROMs? where do I start with that? what are 'kitchens'? I know there's lots out there. thanks again for the help y'all have given!!!

So, I can't read your nick without thinking of the Lethal Weapon movie with Chris Rock. He was detective Butters or something. Anywa, I digress...
I think your next logical step is one of two paths:
1. Cooking and coding - either for yourself or for a new release, if you come up with something you think is different or cool for the community - home cooked customization apps are quite popular - settings backup/recover solutions too - fewer options out there for that right now
or
2. Documenting - maybe something you could work with MrVanx on if you want to pick up an area that is not well documented adn try to document it for folks
For cooking, start HERE IN THE WIKI and see what you can figure out. I am not sure if all the latest kitchen releases are in here, but it is a good start. Follow the links then do some additional searches - lot's of cool stuff... enjoy...

ATT 8525 New Tweaker

Been cruzing around the site without posting for a couple of days reading wiki, posts..... BUT still confused about a couple of things
1. Do we have a latest & greatest Windows Mobile 6? There are sooooo many links and threads it is way to confusing. I just want to install it.
2. I have the ATT 8525 & cannot reprogram my buttons (PTT especially). I would like to reprogram a button to be a voice recorder. My old Siemens SX66 had a reocrder button & I used it quite often
3. Idea/Suggestion for those code writers out there: I have been using the built iin camera flash/led as a flashlight. Comes in real handy and is actually quite bright. Anyone know how or want to creat an app to turn the 8525 into a flashlight??
4. Why is there no pre installed back up/restore program to back up my device?? Can anyone recommend a good one?
Hold on let me put on my flame retardant suit, something tells me it's about to get hot in here.
Ok...All the things you mention have been done, the process is not complicated but it does take a bit of reading. What I would recommend is that you load schapps 3.60a rom you can get it here (this is a very good version of WM6)
http://rapidshare.com/files/50727307/Schaps_WM6Pro_WWE_3.60a-0823_Full.exe.html
It is a good stable and feature full Rom that will do all the things your are asking about.

ok, I feel like a total n00b again :-( lol (not that there's anything wrong with being a n00b, we all were once!) - but can't find this setting anywhere... been through all the options in settings :S - got my keyboard set to English (United Kingdom) - even changed to to United States and back to UK again & rebooted.. but still not love for me is this the place you're referring too???
Cheers for the assist, would love the keys back

dude! what do you think "keyboard selector" in "Start - Utilities - Tweaks" is for?
Your Keyboard is most likely set to Fuze-Layout, it's way different from the original ToucPro Keyboard.
else your hardware-keyboard has to be differnt

Not sure if your message was for me or not - I'm not using the same ROM as the original poster.. I'm on Da_G's fine light ROM - nice and fast and plenty of room for customisation - actually just finished flashing to the new ROM specifically for the o2 serra and the keys are working ok - so gonna do some digging in the registry and see if I can spot the changes - might stay with this rom as it's light and fast too, but knowing what I'm like I'll be flashing it again within 24hrs
Thanks for the replies tho...

Hey dude, I see where you're coming from and not wanting to start an argument / get flamed / banned / eaten or most importantly upset anyone... but easy there tiger! Looking at the initial poster - diogoamato - he registered on May 08 and has made 4 posting since, so either he's done nothing really with his phone or has been doing what a large number of us do - sit and read the posts and learn stuff.
As for me, well I been a professional support guy for MS products since '96 and started using WM5 back on my Axim X51v when it came out, back then I registered on a few forums with XDA-dev being one of them, but then there was only really one place to be as an Ax. owner - aximsite - where I like to think I was contributing to the scene, however my xda-dev account went largely unused. It wasn't until last Nov / Dec I moved over to my Raph. and initially thought I knew a heck of a lot about WM and its workings, esp flashing, but soon realised I got a lot to learn and have spent my time reading & reading again and getting frustrated with the search.. but that's another topic! lol - now I've come a long way since Nov and am starting to try to help others where possible (work, time, etc.) - yea sometimes I think "man, use the search" or "why you flashing and messing with things you dont understand" but mainly I think why not try to help???
Personally I'm trying to get to grips with the kitchens and learn how to build my own custom roms and like all my skills I'm doing it my way; by reading and learning, & trial & error, only one or twice have I asked a querstion from a chef or reported a bug, but only after giving it some serious work myself... I cant remember how many times I've hard-reset my Raph. cos I stuffed it whilst trying to resolve a bug / issue...
I suppose I'm trying to say there are those of us here who use this massive knowledge base that makes this site number 1 and give back what we can. Yea I'd 100% agree if this original poster had a reg. date of Jun '09 : posts 1, but he (and lots of others) have been around for sometime, just we all cant' reply as much as we wished we could...
Well, that's my £0.02 worth...
Peace & love

Well,
Although I don't usually do so but I will answer you because I believe your comment is actually a comment instead of the usual asinine bunch of non argumentative attacks we see over here more often than desirable...
I will try to outline my ideas...
Then yo can comment it, if you like, in a PM. Let's not flood the thread with offtopic information.
01. We were all noobs once...
02. There are MANY forms of noobness...
03. I ALWAYS [without exception] try to help. This is a community, if I am not willing to contribute there is no point on being here. [as a mater of fact I contribute a lot more than I get... And that's the way it's supposed to be]
04. I can accept ignorance, lack of knowledge or even «mind simplicity»
05. I do not - and I repeat: do not - accept stupidity, laziness, indolence, lack of initiative, lack of commitment, etc... Especialy in a community. If everyone behaves like that we get simply nowhere.
06. If you don't search, you should learn to do it
07. If you believe the WIKI is actually hazardous to your health, it's a shame and you should get some counseling
08. If you don't even bother to read the thread you are posting on, that's just proposterous.
09. I usually answer questions that have already been answered 1.000.000.000 times when they have a reason to be posted.
10. I will not tolerate or have a good reaction towards asinine behaviours
11. Although I do see your point, if you spend some time around here you'll get the feel of the place... Then you will see [or maybe even feel] what I mean... Especially if you are a Chef Wannabe... You will ge to really understand the meaning of ingratitude and true offense. [The majority of members is NOT like that but some should just cease existing...]
12. Whenever one endeavours in or witnesses a non meritable coarse of action, one should allways fight it or withdraw.
P.S. I've been around, you know... After some time you just loose your patience... Users who are actually takers should't be allowed ti be here... That deeply compromises the integrity of the thin fabric of developers society... If you understand my predicament...
Cheers and good luck in you new quest The ROM cooking one

All those points are spot on - can't argue with any of those.
Several months back, there were a few posts regarding the influx of new members to XDA. Through these conversations, it was discovered that many Carriers are sending their customers here for solutions instead of adequately investing the required dollars into their internal support network.
As a result, newcomers often come here with what they perceive as a new issue and no idea on how to begin looking for a solution ... with the hope that finally, someone will help solve their problem.
XDA has changed; it continues to be about development but that has become an elite sub-culture. Very few will make it there, some will get close, most never will. And those that never will, are usually visiting XDA for information on solving an immediate problem, nothing more - this I feel is the new culture that is emerging on XDA.
I try my best to help those who want to try to get closer to what XDA is about. Like you, I do see posts that frustrate me and for the most part, I simply choose not to answer those.
So yes, we are all guilty of losing patience at one time or another ... I included.
I don't know if that guy got his hardware keyboard issue resolved or not. But, for what it's worth, I have a Fuze that I upgraded to the newest NRG rom. I found out that my function keys and shift/cap key would not function after installed an aftermarket keyboard. It was the keyboard ripped from the Touch Diamond 2.
The keyboard worked fine on a stock fuze so it was a surprise to me.
Just my experience to share..
heyho,

That took me...uhhm.. less than 1minute to search. wiki->raphael->keyboard layouts.

Don't forget the cwslayout! for touch pro (0) und At&T (1), as MadMic stated.
Softrest is mandatory.
I hope that helped...

P.S.look for UC and make a XML or CAB to do this for you after every flash)
Thanks dude, I'd flashed the Serra ROM (OK o2 brand name for Raph.) and it sorted the fn key issue out, so a little digging in the registry to compare between the two and I'd figured the curlang out, came back to drop a posting about it and you'd beaten me to it - time to spend some more time in the wiki - lol
Was thinkging about using the UC so I dont have to do this again when I flash to another ROM (wont be long as learning the kitchen stuff now... howe long before I got a brick?? lol lol)...

Dear All, I have taken my time and read through and even posted on most of the forums, but unfortunately not one detailing the stuff I intend to do or proper/clear cut response. First off, I would like you to remember that I am a noob and your elaborate and detailed instructions of the steps involved would invaluably help me and hopefully others looking to do the same, so if you're in a hurry, please don't reply halfheartedly. When you have some free time, reply and I will wait patiently for your instructions on how to go about things. I will wholeheartedly appreciate whatever inputs I can receive from those with some know how about the possibilities/impossibilities of the same and please, like I said, spare the noob with some patience and offer some really helpful posts(even if delayed). Thank you.
My intention listed below: (Have already purchased a 64GB Class 10 Micro SD card)
1. Root to S-Off. (Hopefully with methods to revert back to Original state in case of Jelly bean update being released for the EVO3D or for receiving future updates).
2. Back up my Official GB and apps to be reinstalled with a boot manager to slot 1 as either recovery or First Rom.
3. Obtain The Official ICS update either via OTA or if there is an Official Ruu File for my device. Steps on how to get contacts and apps restored back to this too would be helpful.
4. Back up the ICS Rom to be installed on Slot 2 of boot manager so that dual boot of Official GB and ICS can be done.
5. Possible methods of adding the Jelly Bean Update If/When available to this mix to have a triple booting device with the official ROMs.
Based on the above, this is what I am looking for:
1. Fool proof methods and steps on achieving the same.
2, The necessary apps, recovery programs, region based Stock ROM/Ruu files(in case the backed up Official ROMs are not necessary or deemed applicable), and any other software/apps that may be needed to be downloaded/purchased for performing the same.
3. Step-by-step instructions pertaining to the particular Hboot version, CID, etc of my device.
4. Safety measures to look out for, checklist of files to have before hand and Probable methods of having a safe copy always at hand to recover mobile from any boot loops, bricking, etc.
5. Please note MOST of the links to files are not downloading, especially file factory links of the RUUs. All the other smaller files are there and can be got from alternate sources too, except the more important Big Ones Missing! Kindly rectify the same. Thank You.
I would like to inform some very important things I noticed on the forum/threads in PLENTY and what it would seem like to anyone new on the forums and if you are of sane mind, I am sure you will agree! Not that I'm asking you to, since to someone familiar with things a noob's point of view will ALWAYS seem inferior, because one very easily forgets that he was once a noob too:
1. You have instructions and threads, YES, PLENTY! BUT... There is always a drawback/s mentioned somewhere down the line that too when the thread has nearly 400+ pages! That would only make a person mad for having wasted time to find out that it is a nonworking method, etc. Either the thread has to be cleaned up of repeated questions or WRONG information. Faulty/half-working ROMs have to be either REMOVED or Carry A Warning in the TITLE as well as the 1st post itself so that people won't waste their time reading through the umpteen posts and pages or trying and failing and/or bricking their devices.
2. Too many threads of the same methods to do the same thing whereas there are issues mentioned and argued about with those methods too. Ever heard the saying, "Too many cooks spoil the broth!" ? Also, be more descriptive with titles or threads so that Search will catch it. Eg. If something is either related to GSM or CDMA(even for RUUs, if made known, would help immensely), please have it mentioned first off!
3. In the same way, Methods for Rooting, S-OFF, etc, would be BEST if they were mentioned with the supported/respective Hboot versions or CID numbers since these two seem to be the most important factors from what I have seen. It would be good if members posted their Hboot version [Power off phone, Remove battery, replace it, hold volume button down and then simultaneously press power button for 2 to 3 seconds to go to Hboot menu. Volume buttons to go up or down in the menu, To Exit, move to fastboot, with fastboot highlighted, press power button, scroll down with volume key to reboot, with reboot highlighted, press power button to Exit(see what I mean?! THIS is what a noob would want to know and Not KNOW! Unlike someone flashing 10 to 100 ROMs a day)] and CID version(CID Getter app download from Market/Google Play Store, install and Run. The First Line on TOP in Red shows the CID is...) when they say some method worked for them or DID NOT and be responsible enough to reply when the OP asks if the issue was resolved because it leaves someone reading 500 odd pages left in the dark! And trust me! It isn't an easy task!!!
4. If information is known as to which region RUU/s(Stock Roms) is for a particular CID and Hboot to work without conflicting, kindly link them TOGETHER, if others can be used mention the same, but also how and what files to have in handy in case restoration needs to be done for either warranty or other purposes, since the files will be needed according to the same by each member and having a List/Database in a separate thread with correct details of EACH would immensely help, and then at least the search function would prove more helpful. (Note to Others: Before you change CID or other Important Things, Note Down the About Phone Details of your Phone, CID number, Hboot Version, etc, on a notepad saved as HTC Evo or whatever your phone name is, with a Date in the note for each step you did and when, etc for You To Keep Track, in case the need arises down the line, NOT say you didn't think it was important! Ever try forgetting your wife's birthday or your wedding anniversary, Yeah Right! WE Don't think it's Important, but We'll know better later! ) This is a thousand times better Instead of guess work or time wasted on trial and error and reading a hundred threads that lead people in circles between will work and won't work fights, only to curse the day they thought of trying something with their device!
5. When there is a WRONG INFORMATION passed regarding a ROM/method of S-OFF, etc, get the facts verified ASAP and remove contraindicating or confusing posts or the thread itself if there is an issue, Make it compulsory for OPs to Put up A HUGE WARNING as to the drawbacks of doing something with a particular ROM (or better still Just Remove It), and make known of NON-WORKING things before Hand! Which method pertains to which versions, etc. That way noobs would not end up trying their hands at things that they are not familiar with and end up begging later PLEASE, HEELPPP, etc, on deaf ears in the forum. They can at least have working methods up and try them out and be happy once they succeed and can be even more happy to have entered XDA and can spread the good word!.:highfive:
6. This is supposed to be a forum for productivity, NOT Hold Egos OR Try and test others as guinea pigs and then claim d'oh, or Oh sorry I didn't see or notice that. Your small overlooking of an important factor might cost someone his/her device! Try and sort your $#!T Out BEFORE You post it in a forum! Give detailed answers. If You Don't Know, Say You Don't We Won't Think You Less Wiser, but will Appreciate Your Honesty! Not wait till someone gets Scr3W3D and then later cry hoarse all over the forum! And yet you try to act All High and Mighty After You are Caught With Your Pants Down! Catch My Drift?!
So admins please do clear up things a bit and get rid of unwanted posts or too many topics on the same thing, which would have consequential/negative effects on those visiting those threads, (let them bunch up all their names as credits in the single thread and oh to AVOID the EGO Clash Mention "In No Particular Order" just to make 'em happy!) because it will give a bad name to the forum which I'm sure none of us want to see happening! Just my 20 cents I hope would be useful! Oh and as a signing off to People Already on The Forum or Coming into the Forum, "I DON'T CARE if You GET Or NOT GET an EVO, JUST PLEASE DON'T GET AN EGO!!!" Take Care and God Bless!
Thank you for your thought out post. I did read the whole thing and agree that in an optimal world, posts would be much more detailed. But, to give that much detail would be a full time job and then some. So many of us give pointers to get people looking in the right direction.
When I rooted my phone as a noob, I had about 20 tabs open researching different sites and consolidating information. I learned a lot that way and am glad someone didn't spoon feed me. But to each his own I guess.
Read, Search, Read again, ... Then Ask with Tapatalk 2

Hi coal686, thanks for the reply. Reminds me of my school nickname thankfully which never stuck! lol Well I did type out the long post above because I wanted to mention the difficulties ANY noob would have on approaching the site and also what I DID NOT find Anywhere in the threads. (you have dual boot threads, but not the same) What would seem right direction/s to the "quickie" posters might not actually be the right direction if you read through the threads for the target. Like saying go this way, then that way; oh! and there's also this way and that way too and the person travels all those miles(pages in this case) through all those different paths(threads) only to reach the DEAD END of different sides of the SAME CLIFF to jump off! Don't believe me? Read the threads! You'll understand why and tell me honestly that you don't feel the same way when you see some or rather most of the threads after actually reading a gazillion pages.
You say difficult to give that much detail. I thought we all actually want an optimal world, not a world driven by chaos?! There is much MORE wrong detail given in a single thread or how do I put it?, Target-less detail, other than the intended purpose sometimes. If you did read my post, you would have been kinder to notice that that was what I was trying to mention and imply from my experience. Like I mentioned before, It is NO USE having SO much info(some wrong or non-working) scrambled all about with different variants with no proper target or what it is about. Do you know that if a person literally typed out a single page with proper working methods with so called "spoon-feeding explanations steps to a noob" like how I explained in my post(for the Hboot and CID) there would have been lesser space taken up in the forum and it would be BENEFICIAL to one and all who visit the forum. (also for those who don't have Mbps connections to see, again, misguiding or poorly shot videos on the same)
Don't you think those 4 or 5 points that I posted are obviously what is ideal for any/everyone. List of programs for each purpose, steps to do, Note down the About Phone info, Hboot, CID versions, correct files to download for the same, how and when to do the backup, rooting, But still if the methods were already there, there would be no need to revert or go in for warranty anyway! Tell me you see these important instructions in the best of threads up front and at the very beginning and I'll know how well you read those 20 tabs. Still don't trust me?!
I'll be frank with you, a person who is pretty confident too will come in, read, try, scream at least a million WTFs?!! and different profanities by the time he is done with just one part of the process, would have lost half or more of hair and brain cells, and read a "right-looking" thread which ends up being the wrong thread, mess up his phone, beg on the forums, curse in his heart, still beg more and by the end of it all would say $cr3W T#!s and maybe either kill his/her phone or himself/herself! lol I hope that's not the intention of the forum though, or a new depopulation method?! :laugh:MAO
However, Please tell me you don't believe I am asking to be SPOON FED according to you, and that I came and posted WITHOUT READING ANY THREAD. Just like you, I usually take just a day or two continuously reading stuff, actually more than 20 tabs at a given time to get a hold on any new topic and I'm usually done within that time because it's easy to identify the right stuff for me to get the various topics and have an understanding of what I need to know, but I cannot say the same for this experience. Multiple tabs reading of utter confusion, misguidance, so many pages bookmarked, read through, agonizing to learn, that I am asking something about a person's head(Evo 3D GSM) and two eyes(Dual boot GB/ICS) straight up and I am instead replied to with directions to a person's... tail(don't ask!), or what one or many persons think is a person's head, only directed to the wrong head! You get the picture?
Sorry for being a bit coarse, but I hope it puts my point through clearly or better for people to understand the flaw and rectify it, instead of trying to justify it. For that matter, when you see the so called multitude of videos(it's a PITA on 512kbps), which are supposed to be by people doing this stuff day in and day out, Just see the number of times, they stutter through their own stuff! They cannot go through the process correctly, forget a program in between, forget to post the links up front, or steps, things like commands and stuff are thrown about in different graphics! Are you serious?! Then go about it all haphazardly and then think to themselves, they HELPED someone!!! Boy if they were a Driving instructor there would be lesser population!
Just for entertainment purposes, This is how it would go:
noobie driver: What do I do sir?
Instructor: Well you put on your seat belt first, start the car, change the gear, slam down the accelerator.. oh $#!t wait I forgot to tell the mechanic to change the brakes, umm... adjust your mirrors, umm... oh yeah press the brakes, umm... there's a truck heading into us!
noobie driver: WTF?! What is the brakes and where is it sir?!
Instructor: What do you mean you don't know what or where the brakes are?!! It's that damn pedal down there you Noobie Nut job!!! (looks down) Oh s#!t!!! I forgot to refit the brake pedal that I took out too!!! Never mind Bubba say your prayers!!!
CRAAAAASHHHHH!
This is about the same scenario that's happening! Like with computers, just because I know a little, if I instruct someone who has never touched a computer or maybe owns a computer and types stuff on it, blindly saying, put the power cord into the SMPS socket, take the RAM out, clean it and RAM It into slot 1 not slot 2, the one next to the CPU is slot 1. Replace the CMOS battery, Check if Hard disk is connected, Check if DVD writer is SATA/IDE! Clear the CMOS jumper by moving it from pins 1-2 to 2-3 and then back to 1-2. Oh, but first, pull out the power cord before you do! Do you know what reaction I would get?! I would probably hear a BUZZ, see some sparks and have one less person and one less machine on the planet!
Now I know when reading this long post, some might be with their noses pointing in the air saying, Oh we don't have the time for this nonsense! But seriously, you think that others are enjoying the experience like I'm going through?! The neck, back and headache I'm having right now is all proof to it and if experienced by you, you'll definitely not hesitate to even spoon feed me! All this stuff will just put the TRUE picture of how things are, well, at least for now. If Anyone patient enough and want to seriously change things to an optimal world situation, and willing to guide me through though, I will STILL be Patiently WAITING for your knowledgeable inputs.
BTW, still the file factory downloads keep timing out or failing before the end and after three attempts, that too through DTA(down them all) to avoid any failure, it is coming as a failed download or simply beeps completed, but with a html of 21kb!!! Torrents Anyone?! Also for the said Hboot version and CID of my device(or am I supposed to change it?) Which are the RUUs to download? Shooter U GB/ICS Europe or Asia? I am guessing a backup of my own GB would be useful for the future just in case so how to do the needful would be good. Thanks once again for your patience on whoever gets to read this and will as usual appreciate ANY inputs on the same. Cheers and God Bless.

@zcink: Thanks for the quick response. Oh, btw your logo pic is my pet name Micky (in case you change your pic) lol! Also what you mentioned is what I am somewhat hoping to do. Lol and I can imagine why it was quickly shot down! lol Care to post the steps though for my scenario, either here or on a separate thread and it may benefit some, if not many! I did try breaking up the paragraphs for easier reading bro. It's really not that difficult to read and sorry once again if it is. Well other than the seemingly unimportant stuff, this part from my first post being replied to in detail would be more than sufficient:

Lol, I can't help but notice that I mentioned the words "Official ROMs" many times just to be clear and it was so easily missed (Sorry, if I am to blame or wasn't clear enough) I am not all too keen on Custom ROMs having one or two (maybe unimportant to some, but important to me) features missing making my phone defunct, but rather thoroughly working with its original ROMs. I would however be more than happy to add Any FULLY working ROMs with maybe Sense 4.0 and Beats to the mix, but I was already told that there are NONE and also explained the reason why they are that way, so I do understand!
Let me guess my friend. Either the installed radio or the kernels must have been the issue because one would have been for GB whereas it won't work for ICS or vice versa. That's why I was hoping that someone who knows or tried out this stuff to the core would know which is the commonly working Kernel or Radio to install both ROMs without error, or if say Maybe Official backed up GB was installed back onto the phone as slot 1 and Official ICS was backed up and installed onto a partition on the SD card as slot 2, with maybe a separate partition for ROMs and Data so that say each ROM stays within that area having their own separate kernels, radios, etc when loaded into via the boot manager and hence not having issues with their working.
Sorry, I am not too well-versed with the workings of android, but I am just trying to give my thoughts based on what I know through my experience with dual booting computers, though I know we're talking different things here, but am sure some things might be common. Just out of curiosity, does maybe android not have ways to direct or redirect the phone to a separate portion to run each particular ROM and maybe because all the files are all dumped in the ROOT there are errors?
Because for example if I were to take both XP and Windows 7 files(though common platform) and place it on the same partition, there are definitely bound to be errors. Whereas GB and ICS are more like Windows XP and Linux(only Android Mobile being the common platform here) so probably placing them all in the same place(Root of phone) is scr3wing up things. Does Android segregate things(files to separate partitions) in the same way as computers do and the boot loader able to direct/redirect to the appropriate partitions/ROMs for smooth performance? OR Does it have NO method of doing so hence the chaos?!
If that was the case, any developers of the boot managers, ROMs, etc who manage to write stuff in a way that it is able to hold different kernels/radios for the respective ROM/s in separate partitions on the memory card (or Phone if enough memory on board) would be able to manipulate the system to make the boot loader redirect correctly to the appropriate partition and hence make it error free in operation since all the needed files would be present in that location. Also a common way to connect to other files(media, etc) on a Separate Data Partition, would enable each ROM to recognize/find/see those files instead of missing/not detecting files, or say getting apps and contacts for EACH Rom reinstalled again and again, similar to as on OS' of computers.
Am I just blabbering/rambling here not knowing what I'm talking about?! I guess so, but Well, just my 2 cents which could hopefully benefit for the future to someone or some developer who tries to think differently like me(err.. the thinking part that is, not the developer part! lol). Thanks and anticipating once again your knowledgeable inputs.
