Android 3.2 Honeycomb would be hitting the Tablets soon, so what changes can we expect.
The major update includes support for QualComm New Dual Core Snapdragon Processors (HTC Flyer Soon will get Android 3.2 HoneyComb) along with support for the Mighty NVIDIA Tegra 2.
Other updates includes some bug fixes and updates for in-house Honeycomb Applications like Movie Studio, Movies, Music and widgets.
This shall be the last update for the HoneyComb Android Series, and shall mark arrival of the Ice Cream Sandwich .
Sources, also report about the MOTOROLA XOOM would be receiving the update in couple of weeks.
Source:- GizMee.com

This thread really doesn't add any real information beyond what was already posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133057
I figure your nick and the website should probably be pronounced like "gizmo". But when I first read it, all I could think was "jizz me".
Just sayin.

Meh.. I won't hold my breath for these updates.

well hope it comes soon

Considering June is almost over, I think we are looking at August or September for a real time frame.

I've read that HTC are expected to release details of the 10" tablet next week at an event in London.
The 10" table, currently labeled Puccini is said to run Honeycomb. The same report suggest that HTC may also use the event to show the Flyer running Honeycomb.
I'll see if I can find the article again. Having said that it was just an internet news report, so you read into it what you will.

That would be fine by me. I would rather see HTC get it right then throw out some bug ridden garbage.

Waiting for goods news along the summer

+1 for that, I will wait for a working product in Honeycomb, just give me root for now.

Htc is awesome for waiting to get it right. The flyer is great as is.

Still waiting

Thanks for good news, I'll wait

waiting with my figer cross

I hope it will come also with S-Off!

I'm not really waiting, I like GB and can wait a looonggg time for HC to actually mature.

Sense on Flyer really rocks but I hope that in this long summer we can have an Honeycomb device, especially for tablets 7"

What will Honeycomb really add to the Flyer? I have found the Sense UI to be one of the best out there, and a pleasure to work with. I realize it provides full screen space utilization, but what's the value to that when app development has been so glacial?

It is not about Sense as it is enhancement above Android OS. It is about OS upgrade, "under the hood". OS upgrade always brings new functionalities, bug fixes, new kernel... That's why I want Honeycomb on Flyer and Gingerbread on Desire (and all future Android updates). If I need to choose between Sense UI and OS updates which will bring me bug fixes, I will always choose OS updates.

As the actual HC app list is still small at this time, I hope there is good compatibility with GB still.
What I really need is working PPP encrypted VPN! It has not worked on any Android so far!

I agree fully. I have a Honeycomb tablet and the View gets more use and is more responsive and work-ready than the Acer. Don't get me wrong, I love some things in Honeycomb, but love all of the HTC Sense variation done by the View.

Lapdock 100 confirmed on Engadget

It basically looks like the Webtop Lapdock, but with chrome accents, and can connect to a number of high end Moto devices, such as the newly announced Atrix 2 and also our Photon, via what appears to be a dongle. Launches exclusively on AT&T on Oct. 13th followed by launches at other locations (Sprint?) later this month. No price yet.
Anyone interested? This guy is.

Webtop is quite slow, not productive enough. I always wonder whether moto is going to seriously speed it up.

From a hardware standpoint, webtop performs ok when compared to an equivalent netbook. Not too long ago those single core Atom netbooks could barely play youtube vids. The eyecandy is it main hindrance and the patch work coding doesn't help.
I've already discussed possible improvements with moto and there response was pretty much "webtop's awesome, everybody loves it, the hardware can't support a real desktop enviroment and who would want that anyway." My rebuttal was to show them my Photon running, at that time, a prerelease of Ubuntop using the lapdock. "We don't get it." was what I got in return at which point I walked away.
I have a single core 1.6 intel atom netbook and im sure my photons hardware blows it out the water lol. I need a full fedora distro on this thing = perfect phone
That's pretty legit. I might actually ponder getting one if I don't get a tablet instead.

You know what, I had an Asus TF. Great device, great support. I traded it and went back to my NC running CM7 via Phirenook. 7 is such a good form factor, I slide it into my binder and have my text/web resources at my fingertips, right beside my notes. I have magazines on there and books, and with that screen...things are easy to read.
That being said, I'm hoping a 7" model of Xoom 2 is announced and or the Galaxy Tab 7 is price appropriate, because there is something incredibly utilitarian about a tablet the size of a paperback. My $.02.
Edit: Locks like the Lapdock is going to run $249. Hmmmm.

lol sorry but if you want a high quality tablet, this is not for you.. this is a great tablet to jump into the tablet game because of the low-cost but comeon now... its not that powerful..
Hahaha these little crap tablets give Android a bad name! They're saturating the market with low-price, low functionality tablets that virtually NO ONE wants. When it comes to cheap tablets I'm pretty sure the Fire and the Nook will be king (but mostly the Fire), so there's really no reason to have these things. They give ifans a reason to bash Android IMO.
This actually looks better than the Fire to me. I might be a buyer for my 7 year old...Why not? It doesn't look terrible. Wonder if it is completely 100% lead-free? lol
I'm cool with this. Cheaper tablets give us more options. There are people who basically just want a tablet to read ebooks and play the occasional angry birds. That's what's Android all about. Having options.
LOL, looks like asus slacked for too long and got beat by some cheap china tablet company...
You snooze, U loose!
Ohwell, atleast when the prime finally does come out it will have ICS hopefully right around the corner, and hopefully it will make the diffrence we all been looking for.
That chinglish makes my head ache, coming from a Chinese guy.
Lol, Asus is pissed already, but this will kick it
But unfortunatly there are no measurments on the page.
It looks pretty thick.
So what are the dimensions, how much does it weight?
Also it says it is already sold out when I click to order it.

I don't see that it's selling today, I see it's claiming to be the 1st ICS tablet. No different than Asus Prime has been claiming. The race is on to who will be the first to actually be the first to deliver one to a customer
well, it isn't the first Craplet device..
Different options for different budgets. That's not such a bad thing. But keep in mind this $100 tablet comes with a $60 shipping charge that makes it not so great afterall.

Considering ordering a Prime. Would you do it again?

Hey all!
My wife and I are in the market for tablets. Both of us are in school. We both want to be able to watch movies including Netflix. And we both need the ability to create and modify Word docs.
I've been doing a lot of research and think the Prime might be the best solution for us. However, the iPad is also a contender.
If you had to do it over again, which would you get and why?
Thanks for your input!
Why ask why?

i would do it again in a heartbeat i love it and no tablet can match it and once it gets ics the world peace will start
i would do it again. reasons? it is more powerful than ipad2, once some software comes out that utilizes it, it will be even more of a beast. the dock adds a whole world of utility to this tablet. also, I think it is the best looking tablet.

Yep what he said.
I would do it again without hesitation. Apple devices are locked down, and therefore restrictive. With an Android tablet, you can do much much more!
It can also be customized to make it your own! Without hesitation, YES- I would do it again...
By far the best tablet I have ever owned and used. Blows the ipad 2 away in my opinion and the gaming is just amazing.

I agree 100%
i would do it again, the biggest reason for using it over an ipad2 is the dock, if you're planning to do a decent amount of word processing on a tablet, the TF line with their respective docks provide the best user experience in that regard compared to any other tablet on the market.
if i had to do it again id wait for ics. Im not overly impressed with the prime. I think once apps and os can be optimized for quadcore then it will be the best tablet. But for now most apps and HC are not so you wont see a significant difference.

I know I am digging this up from a while ago, but...Would you still do it? I just ordered one from HHgregg for the $399 price ($411 with shipping). I have been watching these forums and doing research but I jumped at the lower price..so I ask you...
Would you buy this again? If not at full retail, then at the 399 price?
Edit: I'm pretty sure this should be in Q&A...Sorry about that, I just dug it up using the similar thread functionality

yuh indeed the lockscreen especial and UI looks fantastic. Since it uses same kernel and drivers as android maybe someday we could see it running on our devices :good:

The minimum specification for running it need at least 1GHz processor with 512 ram and 4-8GB eMMC + SD. So i guess this will not able to run to our devices because small internal memory size

I have luck because every new phone i buy,the Devs that used the device i used bought and develop the new device i buy.

i have been searching for the next phone that can beat my Nokia N900 :good: .....i think this is the best replacement for The GODFATHER N900 :highfive:
Hmm... Ubuntu for our phones looks amazing ui like ubuntu dekstop and fast its kind someting new . Interested when we can try it on our phones becouse its fits in minimal system req. and with our developers i think we could install ubuntu in memory card thet how its should fit for our phones
real good news for mobile lovers

Looks awesome, but it'll be a long time until our devices get it, if they do... Sony won't release it for xperia 2011, that is obvious, maybe they'll grab it for 2012-2013 and edit it, since Ubuntu let manufacturers do that, but i don't think we'll get official one. Maybe a port, hopefully, with our awesome devs will be possible! The internal memory shouldn't be a problem since it acts like a sdcard
ooooh yeah. That's gonna be so awesome.
Too sweet! I can hardly wait.

Modified drivers with full OpenGL support?

I am vaguely interested in a nexus 9, but the driver gimping is a non starter. I do play some Tegra optimized games, and frankly I refuse to give them up because of Google handiwork. I was considering this device as an alternative to the shield tablet, but if this issue can't be fixed I'm going to stick with nvidia's offering. FYI I do already own the shield tablet, I was just considering a switch due to issues I've been having.
I too am interested in making this possible. Pretty frackin pissed at google for disabling something the hardware supports for no reason. Nvidia has it working for the shield tablet so you know the drivers and libraries are available and it would be a simple task for then to enable.
I don't know where its disabled or what all would have to be done/tried to make it work. I have complained on both Nvidias and googles forums. Currently waiting for nvidia to release the full factory images for lollipop for the shield tablet to try compare + copy files. I'm no developer but may have to learn how to compile kernels and build Roms to properly try and overcome this.
Anyone who has more knowledge of the ins and outs of linking libGL.so and such that can offer any insight on where to poke around or start would be greatly appreciated!

it would be much better if we had 1st party support instead of porting it over from the Nvidea shield. but its a start i guess.

These are all the places where I found any other information about our problem and trying to raise attention to it.
Latest response from someone at nvidia in the 2nd nvidia link above...
"Hi, Users
The K1 Chip does support OpenGL 4.4 and CUDA from the hardware side. The problem is that HTC made the device and Google controlled the software for that device.*
For Nexus 9, using AEP (Android Extension Pack) you can still achieve a lot graphics boost on K1 as using the modern OpenGL APIs."
So it sounds to me like google are the ones that left full GL 4.4 out. We need to petition google to have it enabled and included in future releases.
The Antutu benchmark for 3d graphics is really close between the Shield and Nexus 9. The N9 doesn't seem gimped in this regard. Is there some specific opengl functionality that was left out but doesn't show up in this benchmark?
What's really odd are the CPU performance numbers for the N9 in Antutu. I have a hard time believing the results, as the numbers seem unusually low.

Yeah they removed a ton of functionality that can speed up applications, as well as breaking compatibility with a ton of existing apps. The android extension pack is a garbage replacement and is google's apparent reasoning for removing OpenGl support. Also benchmarks should be taken with a grain of salt anyways. They are garbage for real world use.
