[Q] Sound Issue - TouchPad General

Anyone else have a sound issue? I have no sound at all! I have tried several erases and nothing seems to help. I am on the secure full erase now to see if that will fix it but so far neither of the other wipes have done it so I am not sure this one will do any different. I will post results when this is done. Must be doing something because it's taking forever.

I had bought a 32gb and 16gb sound was fine on 16 and crackly / non existent on 32gb. Called hp they had me update to 3.0.2 and sure enough it fixed it

Yeah, not sure what is going on because I have done every wipe you can on the device itself and nothing. I am in the process of using webos doctor so hopefully this will do the trick. Weird because it was working earlier today and all the time I've had it but all of a sudden it just quit. I'll report back when this is done.

OK, so after everything I could think of doing sound is still not working! Guess I get to call HP

Called HP which I was on the phone for over 2 hours and they are going to ship me a prepaid box so I can send them the tablet and they will repair it. Sucks only had the thing since the 20th and after I send it back I got to wait about two weeks to get it back. Asked them about just replacing it but they wanted to charge me $60 to get another one.

Anyone else have this problem and possibly found a solution? Really don't want to send this back to HP.

Audio issue with the Eris... white noise/hissing

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone has experienced this? When I use headphones I get the white noise/hissing. I've used three sets of head phones on the Eris and still get the white noise/hissing.
I've then gone on to use the headphones in three other devices (ipod, computer, blackberry) and no white noise/hissing. It's really annoying.
Is this something that I can have Verizon swap out for me?
Still nothing?
its a ghost
but actually it's probably an issue with the headphones compatibility with your Eris. I don't know.
Yeah, I thought that too. So I tried mono head phones, stereo, noise cancelling and any other kind I could get my hands on.
sorry wrong post

That really sucks! Hopefully the new one doesn't have the issue.
Though I'm hoping that I can go through three and they just send me an Incredible or Droid X.
My external speaker started sounding clangy last week. Got my replacement phone yesterday and it was clangy too. I'm sending it back, it had a 1.49 s-on hboot anyway. And we know how hard those are to root!
Anyway, the tech at vzw said my clangy speaker would be fixed in a "soon to be released" software update. We'll see.....
Good luck with the replacement phone.
Yeah, my external speaker is losing some sound quality too. It's very soft even though the volume is all the way up.
New phone is in Memphis, should be in Seattle by Tuesday.
Let me know if your new phone goes bad too.
My replacement was bad out of the box. It is a "certified like new replacement."
I'm sending it back and keeping my rooted Eris, bad speaker and all.
Also, another interesting thing is that, for me, the problem is worse when I'm plugged into external power (particularly a DC input from a car charger).
Now that is weird. I haven't tried not connected to the power chord.

Okay, tried with it unplugged and I still get that annoying noise. So I'm glad I got the replacement. haha

I'll let you know today. I am expecting my replacement Rezound any time now cause my first one the screen just stopped working.
If I get an obviously refurbished unit I will be extremely pissed. It better be brand new, thats all I really care about honestly.

Just had 2
2 Refurbs from last week (or maybe 2 weeks ago) came as original issue.
My Rezound # 4 still ran hot, so I called VZW for a refurb (refurb # 1; those other 4 were during the worry free). First refurb came and it shot up to 130 degrees almost immediately (meaning, I set up market, downloaded battery indicator; and then while it forced an update of the 7 bloatware apps which were updated since the original market, it got super hot). Called VZW and they dispatched another one, while I sent back refurb #1.
Refurb 2 came, and didn't misbehave, so I temprooted while I could, restored titanium, and once again, turned my back for too long and it processed the OTA. At least I had Titanium Restored.
Epilogue: I kept Rezound # 4. Refurb # 2 ran about the same temps (idled hotter but didn't get as hot running apps), so I stuck with the phone I knew worked.
I just have received 2 in 2 days..........first one came with a bad earpiece and the 2nd today is great. Both came with the latest software and both looked just like new.
Well, my phone did not arrive today as promised. I called Verizon, and the guy who answered very apologetically explained to me that "the manager" had "rejected" my warranty on the basis that he didn't want to approve the free overnight shipping.
They said that they tried to reach me via telephone unsuccessfully, to which I replied: "So let me get this straight... I went to a store for a new phone cause mine didn't work. You didn't want to pay to send me the new one overnight, so you tried calling my phone which you knew didn't work to explain the situation, and when I didn't answer you just cancelled the order? Brilliant work. I can see how you became the biggest wireless company in America." ...to which I got an awkward pause followed by more ass-kissing from the guy on the phone.
So anyways, hopefully this time it gets done correctly. Once again they promised to overnight me a replacement Rezound, however its beyond the cutoff for it to go out tonight, so I won't actually get it til Friday. Ahh, so frustrating!
Damn man, what a freakin' joke though. For such a simple and straightforward exchange this is turning out to be quite difficult a task for them...
Well I am on replacement #3 and I just got it home opened the box and what do you know? The frame on the USB connector is loose. It makes all kind of rattling when the phone vibrates, I had this problem with refurb #1. Hopefully #4 is lucky. This one had the latest ver 2.01 OTA already installed. Phone looks perfect otherwise. I am going to be calling Verizon in the morning. The people that work the phones at night are generally useless when it comes to the tech support end of it, although they do have some good people over there...

HBOOT 2.10 most likely means that the firmware has not been updated to the latest OTA. That COULD be a good thing if an S-OFF exploit becomes available for that HBOOT. One would only assume that the newer one might be harder to break. However, it really doesn't matter if you are careful, S-OFF just makes everything straightforward.

All Rezounds come with 16 GB.
Here's a guide for the classes:
Class 2 is 2mb per second.
Class 4 is 4mb per second.
Class 6 is 6mb per second.
Class 10 is 10mb per second.
Google is pretty cool bro, you should check it out sometime.
Side note: I own a class 10 and if you transfer a lot of files to and from your phone, I highly recommend spending the extra cash for the speed.
I thought that people where having trouble with the class 6 and 10 and having the phone recognize the sd card. I think I only saw one or two posts on it so maybe it wasnt wide spread.

It will be a refurb! Your best bet for a New one is going to a store. I did back at Christmas time when my original was getting almost to hot to handle and was operating extremely slow. When you called you should have insisted on a new one! I got my original on November 27th and it was December 28th that I went into the store and felt with the salesman and I told him it has only been a little over a month and that I was not taking a refurb. And he said "well let me see if we have any in the back" and low and behold they did. I was thinking he was going to give me the box and take my old one and send me on my way but he had me take the Sim out and he put it in the new one and put the broke one in the box that the new one came in with the headphones. Darn! Thought I was going to make out with an aditional set of Beats, but no such luck! BUT I did keep my 16gb card from the old and he left the 16th in the new so that was a bonus!

Was thinking of upgrading from the Dinc to Rezound. What's with all these "replacement" phones? Is the quality that bad that it takes 2-3 to get a good one? Or are these just exceptions?

Warranty doesn't cover crack by speaker?

So I called hp on Saturday, and told him about the crack by my speaker which is due to faulty designs I guess. And he told me hp changed the warranty and they no longer cover this? Is this true? He told me it would cost around $300 to fix! Can anyone help? Thanks in advance

I have had two repaired in the last six weeks for exactly that problem under the HP warranty. If they give you any more s××t .PM me and I will give the repair # ,copy of confirmation emails and the repair statement that I received on there return.
i would suggest not sending it in unless it is very bad. i've read that there is a good chance you wont get the same device back. for example, they'll accept your touchpad, pull one from the refurb pile, and send that to you instead. the other devices may or may not be worse (with other problems) than the one you sent in to fix.

The two that I sent back were picked up and returned in 1 week repaired with new back covers and were definitely not refurb's . Although one that may have had a beer spilt over it and was not repairable was replaced with a refurb that I have never had a problem with .
So don't believe everything you read .
maybe it depends on where you are located. i'm in america and have read lots of horror stories, maybe things are different/better in the uk
here are some fine examples of previous experiences i've read about:

As I said I haven't had any problems with mine, and what I would say I in my personal experience is once they start it doesn't get better, ie with mine I had a very small crack by one speaker and three months later it turned into 3 both speaker's and by the USB jack. My daughters only had one but that was sent back straight away.
Anyway good luck and if you need proof that they do cover it don't hesitate to pm me .

We sent ours in because we are at the end of our warranty too. Just don't ever mention Android OS:
Make a backup
Copy it off to your PC along with anything else of value
ACMEuninstall
webOS security wipe, to remove all traces of warranty revoking un-authorized software.
Like that was the cause of your cracks. If you let your warranty run out, your out of luck. Then it doesn't matter, save the $300 and get a tablet with native JB!
Called hp and again a no go. They guy said they stopped covering the crack about two months ago. Am I out of luck here? And check your pm sstar

I got arranged an RMA on mine on mid July, finally picked up the start of August and then got it back around the 19th August. IT came back messed up, they replaced the back (yay), however it can't pick up a wifi signal unless you're within 1m of the router (I tested with 3 routers and WebOS and Android), you can't even use WebOS without a wifi connection, anyway I presume some idiot at HP/Palm forgot to connect the wifi antenna, not sure what else they did, but it crashed in WebOS settings and it sometimes failed to start up showing a battery with a question mark.
It was finally collected yesterday so coming up on two months since this mess started, and not sure how long it will take to be fixed, they said 10 days but it took two weeks last time, but I know that HP have now outsourced it in the UK at least and they don't have spare parts and can't order them, just get random shipments and you have to hope the part comes or you have to keep waiting.
So different to my case replacement last October which took about 10 days in total. No wonder HP had to pull out the market, I also emailed the CEO's of HP UK and then after no reply CEO of HP USA after I got an unusable touchpad sent back after a month, neither even bothered to reply, not even a scripted thanks for your email. Really bad service in my opinion.
I have speaker cracks and my warranty is up next week. I'm just gonna use a drop a super glue and call it a day.

I would contact Palm using the live chat. They helped me out when I got my first Touchpad which the screen wasn't sitting correctly in the housing. Also the home button LED did not properly light the button. I guess that is what happens when you get a Touchpad from the last batch.

Got it back after 6 days, all they'd done was ran WebOS Doctor on it and sent it back, not fixed anything so still broken and I have to send it off AGAIN. Idiots.
Got it back again today, still not fixed, all they did was another software update, they're claiming wifi works.
It get's lowest signal within metres of the router (I tried 3 routers), when before I sent it off to get the cracks fixed it would get full signal on different floors of the house. For comparrison my laptop next to my touchpad has my network on full signal, and 4 others on medium signal, the touchpad is just mine on low (3m from the router).
They told me to send it back again (4th time) and keep hoping someone will fix it, will be writing a letter to HP UK HQ over the weekend and failing that I think it will have to be legal action.

After ICS update caller can't hear my voice

Hi all, after the ICS update yesterday, when someone calls or I call out, the other person can't hear my voice. I can plug in ear buds, with built-in mic and the other person can hear my voice ok. Wondering if there's a conflict somehow with the speakerphone? Been over the sound settings several times and can't find anything that applies. Any ideas or fixes? Thanks much

If your microphone stopped working immediately after the OTA, I'd call Verizon and have someone look at it and replace it.
If your microphone worked for a little while after the OTA, chances are your microphone just decided to give out.
Either way, I'd look to get it replaced. If its stock and unrooted, there's absolutely no reason for the microphone giving out to be your fault unless it has possible water damage.
Try checking the headphone jack with a bright light for something stuck down in the headphone jack.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
RBarnett, thanks for the reply. The phone was working properly (my voice out) worked fine before the OTA update. No water damage. Just too much of a coincidence for the phone microphone to stop working immediately after the OTA, to my way of thinking. Sounds like good advice to have Verizon check it out.
No mic on Thunderbolt after ICS and app installs
Exact same issue here.
I updated my stock, undamaged, 2 year old, Verizon HTC Thunderbolt to Ice Cream Sandwich(ICS) last Tuesday evening. That evening I found out my phone mic was not working. Callers could not hear me, but all else was fine. Speaker phone did work. Love the Bolt and ICS looks and feels great.
I went to the local Verizon store and the guy did some online research and found no known or reported issues. He said that it must be coincidental that the mic stopped working after the ICS update. He cleaned the mic area and the headphone jack, assuming crud may have been disabling the mic. Nothing seemed to fix the problem.
They ordered a replacement under warranty and it arrived the next day. I activated it and proceeded to reload all my apps, again assuming that the mic issue must be coincidental. After many hours tweaking the phone to my needs and setting up all apps I found that the mic did not work.
Thursday I took both to the Verizon store and another rep played with it and could not find the cause. Only options were to upgrade, or try another replacement. I had no reason to replace my previously fully functioning Bolt. They ordered a second refurb that arrived yesterday. Before downloading any apps I was only going to activate it and make sure the mic worked. I never got that far. The second refurb had a malfunctioning screen that was unacceptable to me.
So off to the store I went with three Bolts.
They agreed the 2nd one should never have been sent out with the poor screen.
This time I talked with a female rep. She actually just upgraded from a Thunderbolt and was well versed. We decided to wipe the first refurb back to factory and the mic now was working. I took it home, started downloading my apps and after a few hours and nearly done I found the phone mic to be inoperable again. The speaker mic worked fine.
Assuming an app was disabling my phone mic I wiped it back to factory and reactivated. I checked and the mic is now working again. I assume one of my apps is conflicting with the mic mute. I have been downloading a few apps at a time and the mic is still working. Only about 15% of the previously downloaded apps are now on my Bolt. I just don’t know what app, or when my mic may go mute.
Long, ongoing story, but I thought I would post to see if anyone has any ideas, or similar issues after ICS update. Thanks in advance.

By "new replacement" you mean a new Thunderbolt, or replacement by a different phone? Probably be a frickin Apple knowing my bad luck...lol
I was actually surprised they updated the Bolt considering you can't even get accessories at a Verizon store any longer. And supplies are limited online.

Hey, a big THANKS, for that detailed reply! I guess misery loves company! Yep, that is the problem. The only work around I've found is to use head phones or ear buds. But you can't just plug in buds or phones and expect them to work for phone calls. They have to have a built in mic. Mine is a Dynex Adapter. It has the mic and a button switch for switching to a call if you're listening to music or radio. The adapter is about 5" long and costs about $10 as I recall. At least that makes the phone usable again until a better solution comes along.
Like you, I thought I might have a rogue app and started removing any app with an audio or sound component. So far no luck. Please let me know if you come across a solution and I'll do the same. Thanks again for posting.

I have read elsewhere about a similar issue. In that post it mentioned that once you get the rogue mic mute the only fix is a factory wipe. I have had to wipe phones 5 times since ICS update last Tuesday. I tried uninstalling app by app but never got the mic back without a wipe. I need a phone, more than I need all the apps. I do miss some but am adding them back slowly.
Same here. They are sending me a replacement and we'll see what happens. I'm personally hoping this 2nd one has the same issue and just seeing if I can upgrade mine to another phone. >.>
Being a total dumb ass concerning programming phones, this problem appears to be software rather than hardware related. Could a developer create a small app to simply reset or clear the mic status? I'm probably oversimplifying, but it looks like an HTC or Verizon developer could fix this problem in a matter of minutes. Rendering a fine phone useless after an OS update seems kind of ridiculous, imo. Any suggestions or thoughts?
So far none of the rooted users that didnt take the ota but rather used the flash able haven't reported this issue. It is possible that its a combination of hardware and software where the new software didn't fill the gap for your hardware. It is well known that no two thunderbolts are alike and they all react differently to the software.

Good point Disconnectie. Something, whether hardware or software, rendered my perfectly working Tbolt, basically unusable after the OTA. I wonder now if the Emergency Call function is working? Don't think I'll make an emergency call to test.

Anyone RMA'd one with dodgy buttons?

I'm thinking about calling Google and seeing if I can get a swap for my tablet, the volume up button on mine seems to be getting lower and lower into the housing.
Anyone done this? I might try and it and see what they say?
If you got it from Google they'll be cool about it. Their customer service is great.

Yeah I got it from Google.
Will they send a new one then I can send the old one back, so I won't be without a tablet?

That's usually what they do. If you're not happy with what you got give them a call

OK, I have just called Google and they are organizing a replacement for me.
I think I know the answer to this already, but.....if I install TWRP and do a full backup, I will be able to transfer that backup to my new device and have it exactly like I have this one, yes?
I will then factory reset and flash factory images on my old one before sending back to google!

Did the cat purr?
The buttons do suck no doubt about it, but I don't think it's a reason to send it in.
Return is pretty good with Amazon Prime. RMAd 2 of my tablets. One came back yesterday with the same flush buttons and one today with only Power Button improved. Volume up is still flush... I guess I'll wait for couple of more weeks before trying it again.
I'm still very mad at HTC and Google for this
My volume up button is becoming difficult to press as its almost flush.
I'm hoping since the 32gb white is out of stock on Google play at the moment, I will get a newer build!
I mentioned light bleed to the cat and that is covered under their rma.
I really want the lte model so I'll just wait it out until those ship...
My replacement just shipped - Serial number indicates that it was made on 16/10.
