HTC TITAN - An Insight - HTC Titan

Guys and Gals,
Great news !!
I have finally received my brand spanking new TITAN...
And I have been surprised already with the great increase in build quality of HTC, and not to forget that they have done wonders with that camera.
A couple of things they don't mention in the specs:
a. It now records in 720p with Stereo sound
b. Noise cancellation in phone calls, absolutely splendid call quality.
c. Despite HTC saying that Internet sharing was added by Microsoft too late, it is their in the settings and works very well
d. a SIM Toolkit app in settings to use with network provider SIM service options !
e. Samsung flash memory is used rather than a microsd card for the 16gb internal memory
f. WP Bench results

Any other info anybody would like let me know....

Pictures and even videos please
Does it feel solid or plasticky? Is the build quality superior to the HD7. How big is it really? How's the display and does it make all the text bigger as the resolution is the same...Battery life?
I am so excited for this phone

Really want to know how the display is. 480x800 on 4.3'' was borderline so wondering how is it on 4.7''

The Titan feels very solidly metal, the build is absolutely superb, One cannot compare the HD7 to this beast!
It doesn't feel too big, in fact it feels very very thin in the hand; the feel is such that I get the same dimensional feeling when I hold my Galaxy S2
Everything is bigger, the tiles, the text, and especially the keyboard are much much more touch friendly
Battery life so far I really can't say anything.....

Ammar, the display is a beauty, the blacks are deep, viewing angles are excellent ~ 160/160.
There is no pixelation whatsoever, and best of all unlike the HD7 there is no ghosting of scrolling white text on black background

Please post pictures and video!
Also, if you could take some pictures and video with the camera, that would be great.
Use youtube, and imgur.com to host the video and images respectively.
Thanks!

I will try to get some pics up later perhaps....
However, bigger and brighter news
The Titan seems not to be using a microsd card for the internal storage, rather SAMSUNG flash memory.....
This again seems to show that this handset really is worthy of being a flagship device

The titan sounds sweeter as the days go by can't wait for it to land on ATT.

How come there's no Titan forum but already a Kindle Fire one?

Now that is a very good point - is XDA not going to bother with new WP7 phones any more?

Well, the first batch mostly does not have problem with LCD monitors, as it should be with S-LCD.
What I worry about is the later batches, which may use TFT instead, like those HD7/Trophy/Pro with 7389 preloaded. Those LCD monitors have a poor viewing angle, which show negative images at around 50'. You will also see the monitor is yellowish around the edges while the middle is white, which is annoying.
Once your first batch Titan/Radar get something wrong after few months (or a year) and they change the one with poor TFT, then you will be likely to cry.
Good luck!

Performance is impressive, but the general user experience still on the screen, so the LCD panel does an important role here. (3.7" on TFT is barely acceptable, but 4.7" on TFT......... )
BTW, is your MEM/STOR mark for RAM only? How about the storage media (SDHC/NAND)?

did the htc titan just outperform the i937 in 2 out of 3 tests?
CPU and Data? The only thing it didn't outperform it in was gpu which was 41 vs the titan 40...now that is interesting
snap some photos! let's see what the camera can do!

Is there a US release date yet?

1.5 GHz versus 1.4 GHz, everything else is equal. The HTC phones should be the fastest

Had any problems with the grip of death?, that might be on the titan?
And yes ATT get your rears in gear, I just hope they won't demand firstborn for payment.
Excited to see the pics it will take when you get them up bhogal.

Man, keep us update with your experience , because i depend on you to decide to deal with Evil AT&T or not.

Just got a beta radar 4g and I actually prefer it to the titan. The titan is nice but the build quality on the radar just feels superb. I wish they'd release something like the dvp except with a FFC, I'd be in love but for now I think I'm actually going to give the radar a few days. I wish I could add memory to it though :/...

Idiot's Guide to Nexus S and EVO3D - For Idiots.

So after trying to decide between the two for myself, I've decided to try to help other like-minded users find the phone that's best for them.
If you see anything incorrect or missing, please let me know!
I'll start with the Nexus S 4G
Software:
Ships with Gingerbread
Will receive upgrades first
Will likely run Icecream (HC reworked for phones)
AOSP
No bloatware, and no Sprint apps
Hardware:
1GHz Hummingbird Processor
512MB RAM
4" Super AMOLED screen
16gb internal storage
NO MicroSD card slot
NFC Capability
5MP rear camera
VGA Front camera
1500 mAh Li-ion battery
GPU rated as good, if not slightly better than EVO3D's Adreno 220**
Unique Contour display*
*The contour display can best be seen here. Essentially, the display curves slightly at the ends and reviews have reported it feeling nice against your face. Aside from the feel, the SAMOLED display grants more vivid colors, more luminance, and more contrast, making text easy to read at most sizes.
**Which means the Nexus S will be able to display graphics on a similar caliber of the EVO3D, which is much higher than the EVO.
Layman's terms? Have you noticed how bad the N64 Emulator is on the EVO? It should run beautifully on the Nexus S, and even better on the EVO3D.
Media
DLNA Support for wirelessly streaming media from the phone to your TV or computer
Supported video, audio, and image formats are not known yet, but we can safely assume the standards are there.
Release date: "Spring" 2011
Price: $199 on contract
Form:
An important spec of phones to some users is also their outside form. Here's what we've got on the Nexus

Size and weight:
63mm x 123.9mm x 10.88mm
129g
4" contour display
Feel: CNET and user reviews say it feels light, and the material feels ´lighter´without metal parts.
This will make it feel more airy, smaller, and less bulky than the current EVO, which is very similar to the EVO3D
Users have reported a 'cheapy' plastic feel to the Nexus S, similar to the Epic. Other than that, there's no decision one way or another if that could be an issue when dropping the phone.
Advice? Don't drop your phone, no matter which model. Or buy a case of some sort.
Summary:
If you end up selling your EVO for $200 (easily done), you'll be able to upgrade to this phone for free. Why would you do that? Well, it's free, and it's a hardware and, eventually, a software upgrade from the EVO. While it boasts almost the same specs as the EVO, the processor is newer and the screen displays more colors with more vibrance.
Currently, the TMO Nexus S has benchmarks that run circles around the EVO and battery life that has been reported to last ~20 hours off-charger. Sound good to you? Same to me.
The phone will definitely last you through 2011, and likely a good chunk, if not all, of 2012. I anticipate it will also be receiving Android versions 2.4 and 3.1 (If that's Ice Cream), which will be more than capable of running on this phone, even if Quad-Core phones are released and run it as well.
Aside from the hardware, the software will be top-notch. You'll receive the latest Android software updates as soon as they're released, and the dev community should be buzzing on this phone, considering its AOSP nature.
Who is this phone good for?
Economically-minded users who want a boost from their current EVO and/or want a great developing experience. If the latest and greatest Google software is your thing, this phone is for you. Keep in mind that Nexus S already runs the Honeycomb SDKs and it will be a breeze to port the AOSP Honeycomb to the Nexus S once the source is released. Further more, AOSP will finally be developing code for WiMax chips, which will help ROMs like CM in incorporating WiMax. You'll also get WiMax on CM8 (When released) first, most likely.

Oh, and you make it even faster and more powerful."

Includes Sense 2.0 (?)
Includes Sprint Software
Hardware:
1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor
1GB RAM (Which can be expanded* into the External Storage, giving you up to 5GB RAM, which diminishes as you fill internal storage, down to a minimum of 1GB)
1GB Internal Storage (Previous rumors stated 4GB. This still isn't clear or confirmed at all either way.)
4.3" 3D qHD Display with a resolution of 960x540
Expandable memory: 8GB microSD card included: supports up to 32GB
Dual 5 MP cameras used to capture 3D images and videos
1.3MP front-facing camera
1730 mAh Li-ion battery
HDMI port
No kickstand... Devastating, I guess?
*Much like a page file on a PC This has also been pointed out as a rumor, and is MOST LIKELY NOT TRUE
Media:
DLNA for wirelessly streaming media from the phone to your TV or computer
Audio supported formats:
Playback: .AAC, .AMR, .OGG, .M4A, .MID, .MP3, .WAV, .WMA (Windows Media Audio 9)
Recording: .AMR
Video supported formats:
Playback:.3GP, .3G2, .MP4, .WMV (Windows Media Video 9), .AVI (MP4 ASP and MP3), .XVID (MP4 ASP and MP3)
Recording: .3GP
Form:
The EVO3D is similar in look and shape to the EVO. Here's what we've got
Size and Weight:
126mm x 65mm x 12.05mm (4.96" x 2.56" x 0.47")
170 grams (6.0 ounces) with the battery
Feel:
Taken from Engadget's hands-on review:
"As we'd mentioned in our hands-on, we immediately noticed that the EVO 3D didn't feel particularly heavy or bulky in the hand; in fact, we would've guessed that it was a bit lighter than the 4G. Well, turns out they're almost exactly the same weight -- holding the two one right after the other, we couldn't detect a difference.
As for dimensions, the 4G is actually wider -- the 3D's quite a bit more manageable when you're holding it, especially if you don't have giant paws -- and they're right around the same thickness."
Price: unknown
Release date: "Summer" 2011 (June)
Summary:
If you want the latest Sprint power-phone with latest industry hardware and technology - You won't be disappointed. While there are mixed reviews and feelings about the 3D feature of the phone, it seems that 3D is completely optional and is simply an added bonus for buying this already great phone.
Battery life is undetermined right now. While it boasts an industry-leading 1730 mAh Li-ion battery and the processor is some times number more efficient than the current EVO, people speculate it to have as much batter life as the current EVO.
In short: Like your EVOs now, this phone will be fast, bold, and furious, taken to a new extreme.
EDIT: Since the question has been asked on the forums, I've done a little bit of research:
How will the EVO 3D's display hold up against iPhone 4's?
To answer it shortly, the EVO 3D has a slightly lower resolution (960x540) than the iPhone 4 (960x640). Being that the EVO3D has a larger screen and a lower resolution, this means that the PPI (pixels per inch) will be lower, resulting in a slightly less sharp display.
Who is this phone good for?
Power-users who want only the best for themselves. Want to play the latest 3D graphics-intensive games on your phone? EVO3D is for you (please don't mistake 3D graphics for 3D images)
If you buy into the 3D thing, you'll also be able to shoot and view photos and videos in 3D.
This phone has power, screen size, and speed that make it worthwhile to keep far into the future.

Deal running through 4/16, but call Sprint to check.
Thanks! I already knew all of this, but it'll help some people here for sure.
Also, the Nexus S has a contour display, which you didn't mention.
Oh right, thanks! I'll add that in for sure. Don't forget to hit the thanks button if you thought it was helpful Even if not for you.
I like how this was titled, Idiot's Guide.....for idiots.
No way lmao.
Haha, thanks man.
I'm in no way an expert, I'm a slightly above-average user when it comes to knowledge of hardware and software. I'm just compiling info that I dug around for myself and ask tons of questions on --- and I'm putting it in (hopefully) layman's terms.
Do you all think I should include a comparison of the two phones to the iPhone 4, since everyone seems to use the iPhone as a comparison tool?
So nexus s is a better phone the first gen Evo? I am within my 30 days so I can return my new evo and get the S, I don't want to wait for the 3D as I will be running a blackberry curve until release

I am sick of it too! Everything is compared to Iphone, iphone is lame. Maybe its good for people who dont know any better, lol.
I took a long look at nexus s, it may be a bit better than evo 1st gen but I dont care for the look of it. The plastic back, reminds me of the Epic, feels cheap in the hand

The next Evo successor

I was thinking..
First off, I'm very happy with my 3D.
OK, I started to think about next years Evo, Wondering how its going to be.
knowing Evo line is top dog for sprint. I know, Sprint wont disappoint next year.
I cant imagine what else can Htc can put in a phone to make it better?
Are super 3D phone is a nice phone. but, next years Evo should get better all around!
So just for fun, what do you guys think the next successor for are beloved Evo 3d will have under the hood?
I know Sprint is having a presentation in CES, which should be intresting.
also, Htc needs to step up there game knowing Samsung has taken the lead.
I 'm thinking they need to come out with something better than Galaxy Nexus which is Samsung best phone now.
And finally will Htc add 3d to the next Evo successor?
I hope next Evo has:
-Kickstand I really miss it.
-1080p recording
-4.7 inch 720p screen (want higher ppi than iphone)
-Cpu: I'm sorry Htc, just drop Qualcomm go with tegra 3!
-ram 1.5
-internal storage 16gb/up
-bigger battery 1950 mah?
-WORLD PHONE!?
-Lte? because wimax is having a slow death.
- Better 3D
Thoughts?
All that but I want two gigs of ram. Why you ask? Nintendo DS emulators haha. Two gigs and a tegra three would most likely make that possible

Anyone that has doubts of Qualcomm needs to read up on their new s4 chips. Were talking LTE modem built into the freaking die of the chip itself! Supposed to save huge on battery life in regards to that aspect. Watch the engadget district video that has the HTC new developer tablet on it for ton more info.

Also its probable that we won't have the next big EVO till later in the year as compared to the past when its been June/july. Seems were lookin at septemberish now based on the sprint exec saying first LTE phones in late 3rd qtr next yr.

Qualcomm is probably one of the top tech companies in the world right now. Just because Tegra 2 had the spot light in 2011, don't underestimate the S3 and the upcoming S4. They have some of the highlight ARM architecture in all the world, focusing not just on raw power but a balance of on-board radios, power conservation, and developing their own GPUs.
I'm betting July will see the EVO LTE, maybe quad-core, 4.7" 720p with NFC and Beats audio, and of course LTE radio. By then, HTC might also make the full-time swap to AMOLED screens.
You have to look at it like this, the next EVO will be the TRUE EVO sequel, because original EVO owners will be coming off their 2-year contracts.
CPU
Thanks for the reply's.
Anyways, I took a look at Qualcomm s4 processors and was very impress.
I might have to take back what I said about dropping Qualcomm
and getting tegra 3.
Lastly I read somewhere that maybe Intel will be also making a announcement same time frame as sprint? maybe Evo super phone with Intel Cpu??
Why do you wish to have 1080p video capture? The compression would be horrible and the optics are quite crappie as it is for video. Just seems like a waste to me
Qualcomm is the best right now, but no reason to leave it. Wimax is going downhill fast though, so lte is much stronger signal to get inside buildings.

I just want one camera with a higher quality sensor and use the rest of that space for a decent speaker.
Dear HTC, we do not all live and work in quiet environments. When $20 prepaid throw away phones are ringing louder than yours, there is a problem.
I'd settle for the exact same CPU/GPU (clocked at 1.5) if it had a brighter 720p 3D screen that DIDN'T lower its resolution when in 3D (like 3DS, it would technically be 2560x720 ro 2560x1440, but have 1280x720 effectively in and out of 3D)
I'd buy two of the damned things. Why? F**k you, that's why!

The only reason WiMax penetration is so bad is because of the spectrum that Sprint uses for it currently. They are leveraging the 800mhz spectrum leftover from the iDen network Sprint acquired from Nextel right now, but I'm not sure if it's for LTE or not yet, I'm hoping it is bc that would make overall penetration much better. (that's what she said, lol.)
Anyways, to the point of this thread.
What I hope the Evo LTE has:
-keep the 4.3in screen (I don't care if it's 3D or not just better than the already amazing qHD) bc I like being able to fit this in my pocket and I have a tablet for a bigger screen.
-Qualcomm quad-core processor.
-1.5-2gb of ram.
-either make it come with 16gb onboard storage or throw in a 32gb microsd(Verizon's been doing it).
-Kickstand that allows for both landscape and portrait view.
-bring back HDMI (im not sold on the whole DLNA thing, but what do I know).
-10mp camera (don't care about 1080p for my phone, there are dedicated HD cameras out there for that).
-NFC
-keep the dedicated camera button (love it).
-have two different colors at launch as opposed to waiting.
-ICS (Duh)
-Sense 4.0 (I hated 1.0 but 3.0 and 3.5 have been great IMO).
-Gorilla Glass (Duh)
-Some type of net top ability a la motorola, but with chrome instead of firefox.
- Biggest battery possible with slimmest form factor.
-Keep the Black/Red accents (classy and sexy all at the same time.)
-Ditch the physical home/menu/back/search keys and keep the bezel to a minimum (phones look better when their screens take advantage of the real estate.)
-Removable bloatware (one can only hope...)
-unlockable bootloader at launch, no waiting months later (I'll still wait for S-off myself ;-)
-Aluminum unibody
-Google+ integration with sense bc I hate Facebook.
-and as always I hope it can cook, clean, and pleasure

I am literally camping out in front of a Sprint store and adding another line to my family plan to get this monster should it become a reality as opposed to just far-flung hopes and dreams, spectacular as they may be.

Ditto, you pretty much nailed what the next one should be like.
I'll add that they dial up Carl Ziess & get serious about the camera & it's lens.
- I want an AMOLED screen....first and foremost. After seeing how amazing things look on those screens, I won't consider any phone that doesn't have that in the future.
- At least 16GB of eMMC storage
- MicroSDXC capable card slot
- Screen size like the Galaxy Nexus
- Include the stock android launcher. I like sense apps (messaging, browser, etc), but give me the option to use the stock launcher
- Processor/GPU of similar/better performance to the Exynos processors in the ET4G
- LTE and WiMax radios. If sprint is going to continue to support wimax, there will be pockets where you have one, but not the other. Allow us to connect to both.
Make the phone thinner!
It should look more like the HTC Sensation, but maybe a 4.5 inch HD screen.
bigger battery
More ram
BETTER camera

One thing i dont want to see is it being thinner or redic. thin. I like the size thickness wise of the phones now to be honest.
-LTE
-Tegra3 Processor 1.5ghz. Not underclocked.
-An actual 4gb ram after software installation.
-16gb internal storage with 64gb microsd slot
-Keep qHD res. Higher res means harder to find crystal clear wallpapers.
-Samsung display colors. They are gorgeous.
-ICS Stock
-Kickstand(A MUST)
-2000mah battery or higher in a slim design.
-All black sleek design with red casing like Evo 4G.
-Better camera photo wise.
-Last but not least...Button apart of the phone again. Not the back door like this phone. My power button sinks in and I have to remove the door and put it back on to fix it again.

[Q] Motorola Photon 4G Successor Ideas?

So its been a year since sprint released the "Motorola Photon 4G"
Its now 2012 and the Higher standard of phones are rising higher. After looking and comparing
http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/U...rvices/Mobile-Phones/MOTOROLA-PHOTON-4G-US-EN
and the
http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/U...ones/ci.DROID-RAZR-MAXX-by-MOTOROLA-US-EN.alt
random
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...ide+-+Black&q_sku=sku5410297#fbid=rMiMoXUcNn2
I came to what i wish the next Photon will be like. This is all just opinions please just give your ideas, thoughts, and what u want the next photon to look like.
So we all know Verizon is having fun with the 3,300 Mah battery and the sleek design of the phone. So sprint needs to step up the game with its unlimited data.
My idea of photon Q
Design should be similar but where the edges curve they should be a little more sharper.
Screen size should be 5 Inches and be made of Gorilla Glass 2
Thickness this is the hard part i had to think of when analyzing the 3 Phones above so the phone maybe 3/4 inch or less. The reason is the phone maybe come a BIT too thick but all the space provided by the 3/4 inch thick chassis will allow addition of Monstrous Internal.
Lets see ill post a Quote to rethinking my idea

Ok i remember now im just going to slap ideas continuing from what i was talking about from the post
So Basically i want the next photon to be a major powerhouse in the MoPho Line up
So yes the only drawback of my idea is the size and weight by a small bit
5 Inch screen made of Gorilla Glass 2
Made in Q3 of 2012 so it can have Tegra 3 Processor with LTE
Different models from 16 32 64 GB
16 MP Camera
5 MP (or more) front faceing cam
Same Design just a sharpen the edges a little and color to black
Beats audio
If possible remove moto blure
KEEP the SIM SLOT (PLEASE)!!
And ill add on when i have more ideas

Here's my take on that wish list, and I'll break it down by each line:
1. Easily achievable. And I couldn't agree more.
2. If you know Motorola as well as I do, it wouldn't be able to make Q3 of this year.
3. Fair enough, though most phones (except for the iPhone... yuck) don't have multiple storage options. They leave it up to you to buy the bigger microSD. There is a $100 difference between iPhone 16GB and iPhone 32GB when you could just buy a phone with 16GB and a 16GB SD card for cheaper. If they gave it 16GB internal storage, I think that would be sufficient, though I would never have a need for more than 8GB internal.
4. Now you're just dreaming... 16MP on a phone? The photos are huge, in fact they have so much resolution that even an HDTV couldn't display them without shrinking the picture. Besides Motorola wouldn't do that anyways. Not in 2012 or even 2013. I think 8-12MP is a good ballpark range (http://www.androidauthority.com/16mp-smartphones-not-useful-yet-88406/)
5. Another dream... given the LG Thrill 4G has one, it still comes down to the fact that too much of one thing can be a bad thing. I think a more fair resolution would be 3.1MP.
6. I like a sleek phone as much as you do. Kudos to thinking of design. I think a rigid design also helps here. Something that can take a drop and brush off like nothing happened.
7. Beats audio has been successfully ported. You can flash it (if you are rooted) to any device. You can find it at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525226.
8. As I'm indifferent here, I guess to me this could go either way.
9. I agree to that as well. If my contract ends, I feel that I have a damn right to go to any service I please.
Here are some of my suggestions:
Stock ICS (with USB Mass Storage enabled).
Unlocked bootloader (see, I have crazy wishful thinking too!).
2nd SD slot (useful for on-the-fly data transfer, especially being a musician).
Waterproofing (if possible, don't you think?).
GSM & CDMA capabilities.
A nice big internal antenna for good service range.
Those are just my thoughts. Sorry for bombing your thread... xD
EDIT: #7... Can be flashed to any phone running 2.3+.
Dude its ok we hit similar ideas I reviewed you suggestions and I think yeah there good to .....ill write a full reply later I can't see your suggestions cause I can only read or type on thread

1.The purpose of me saying Q3 is cause i know sprint is getting LTE
http://www.androidauthority.com/nvidia-tegra-3-plus-lte-77954/
2.The reason for 16,32,64 GB is cause if you do rooting or any other hack related stuff you may appreciate a high internal memory with a expandable MicroSD slot
3.I know i meant 12 - 8 MP and then i saw this.....(16 MP....maybe?)
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Omni...ad-Full-High-Definition-video-capture_id30469
and about having too much good i'm just trying to brainstorm an idea maybe sprint will see and think about it cause they REALLY need a good phone
4.The design was predicted and a opinion gathers from comparing the MoPho & Droid Razr MAXX to the Samsung Captivate Glide. I had a hard time thinking that part cause i can see right now you and me simple customers who have nothing but opinions that influence cant do alot. I see we're thinking of PACKING THIS BI*** with BADA***!!!! TECH!!!!! Excuse my language im 16 but am highly tech savvy. Back to what i was saying For big specs we may have to make the screen bigger and raised the the thickness a tad little then try making the edges a bit more Sharper
5.i know about the beats audio but i was thinking stock from the company lol but you got me thinking maybe this guy is right i might change that cause DR.Dre over prices his stuff and if we add that price will go up -.- (Take it off keep your f***ing beats to your self...we can just get it for free and Flash it ) Meaning lower price.
6.Who knows if your different maybe are brainstorm is being used as a idea for motorola and sprint as we speak
7.Yeah the contract ending and stuff. If they get rid of GSM ill be mad cause the purpose of me saying keep it GSM Option-able is if are contract ends we can just root and flash Radio unlocking GSM of your choice
8. OFC ICS STOCK
9.2nd Micro SD slot? Hmmm you maybe on to something i know what your talking about but how as we gonna stick 3 chips in a mega pack phone....we'll brain storm my friend. (SD+SD+SIM=3 Chips)
10.Water proofing.....due to the material of waterproofing the phone maybe more thicker Here:http://www.wirefly.com/eCommerce/SpecialOffer.aspx?cid=36210_9d234b3e0831494d94c32625f8296cc2 Thats a waterproof phone and you can see its already thickish
11. Again you didnt bomb since you were the first im greatful
12.Don't you think it should have a 3,600 MAh battery that is slim and REMOVABLE
13.Finally to close up my thoughts a Keyboard and non keyboard version.
Thanks again for being the 2nd Brain in this brainstorm.

SO here's some of my re-thinking
Tegra3 with LTE
16,32,64 internal Memory
12 MP Camera
8MP Front Facing Cam
Beats Audio (Debate Able)
3,600 Mah Battery Removable
GSM SIM Slot
Latest Android Software
MicroSD Slot
Powerful Exterior (WaterProof,ShockProof,ETC)
2 GB of RAM
Get Rid of Kick Stand so space for real hardware is usable
Gorilla Glass 2 with 5" Screen
Keyboard and Non - Keyboard Version
Made in Q3 cause around that time most of the best phones have been
unveiled
Slight Design Change
Upgraded Sound isolating Hardware

not sure about 8MP front camera, I think 2MP is enough for videotalks!
the battery - best idea is to have 2 versions like razr and razr maxx: one will be thin with ~2000mAh, second will be bigger, but with 3600mAh. So, people can choose which version they want to use, because now I found that we have 90% crap extended batteries out the market.

I need to re think specs cause of the phone's Size...
Could be waterproofed with liquipel technology. They already do it to quite a wide variety of devices. Nanopolymer thats chip resistant, adds no bulk, water resistant up to 100 feet I believe... Pretty awesome stuff! Google it.

Chinese Tablets - Worth a Punt?

All,
Been looking on amazon recently and noticed some pretty decent spec tablets for very little money. Thinking of buying one.
The one im interested in is a NATPC tablet and has:
-Allwinner A10 CPU (A8 Architecture) @ 1.2ghz
-1gb RAM (says DDR3?!?!)
-Mali 400 GPU (same as Galaxy S2 i believe??)
-8GB Storage
-Capacative 7" screen @1024x600 res
-SD Card slot for expansion
-Full size HDMI Out port
-Only 9.8mm thick
-Running ICS
For Under £90, got to be worth it hasnt it? i mean it sounds like a pretty decent spec!
What are peoples experiences on here with these types of tablets?
Ive read reviews online but wanted to know what more techy people think of these tabs.

Might be alright, I mean the biggest issue is little to no support and build quality tends to be very different from unit to unit, If i was you I would hold out for the nexus 7.

You know what, ive just played with one at work. all i can say Damn that thing is impressive!!!!!!!!
The screen is amazing! I watched Transformers Dark of the moon and skipped to the fight scenes, my god, every little detail can be seen.
Amazing bit of kit. Nice heavy feel to it aswell, u can tell its quality!
Theres not much UI diffs in JB and ICS.
One thing i found strange though, it does have a front camera but u cant use it for pics. U can only use it in video calls.
Either way, one amazing bit of kit, defo going to get one soon!
But for the moment, i might just pick up this chinese thing to mess about with! lol

Fair enough, so long as your ready for a device which will not be at all like the nexus 7
I have had quite a few people buy them and then ask me why they are so slow etc etc but who knows this one might be good who knows.
But yes im pining after a nexus 7 dam being a student
Hey man, Quick update.
Well i took the plunge, seen as though it was so cheap.
All i can say is im very very impressed, dont know what people complain about. This thing is great!
The screen is 1024 x 600 res so pretty good (considering most of the tablets in this range are 800x400), its responsive and clear.
Yes there are moments when there is a little lag but no where near what i was expecting. Ive put a few games on it (angry birds, temple run, drag racing to name a few) and they all run smooth. Browsing the net is slick. I cant believe how good it is for the price.
It has a nice weight to it (feels like its a quality product) and the textured back makes it less slippy in ur hands.
I would highly recommend these tabs to anyone looking for an entry level tablet, but it has to be at least 1024x600 cos the 800x400 is just crap compared to this (a friend has one).
I have HDMI output (HDMI to mini-HDMI lead has to be purchased seperately though)
I tried the USB to micro lead (supplied with it) and plugged in a 32gb usb stick with a few movies on. It played them perfectly, was surprised by the quality, its great!
Seriously, anybody thinking of avoiding chinese tablets, think again. For the price, the "Natpc HD RTB Ultimate" is well well well worth it.
Im very happy with mine! lol

LG Optimus L90 or Samsung Galaxy Light?

Just a quick question:
T-Mobile has a pretty nice deal going on, where you can purchase a combination of two smartphones (LG Optimus L90 or Samsung Galaxy Light) for a total of $100 + tax!
After hearing this sweet deal, I had to go out and purchase one of those phones, and so I went with the Samsung Galaxy Light, as my brother who will be entering his senior year of high school never had a smartphone in his life. I have heard great things about the Samsung Galaxy Light, but never looked into the LG L90 until I got home, and it looks like it is a 4.7 inch phone vs. the Samsung Galaxy Light's 4 inch screen.
My question is, after looking at the details, which phone is superior then the other? One phone would serve for my brother (he is going to download games and what not, so I figured the 1.4GHz would be superior to LG's 1.2GHz?) and the other phone would serve as a backup (always good to have one laying around!)
Would love to hear your insight on which phone you would chose and why, my brother doesn't care about what phone he gets, just wants an Android that has something he can take pictures with and download tons of apps/games. At the moment, he really is happy with the Light, but I can always switch the other phone to the LG L90, if it is worth the trip to the T-Mobile trip, of course.
BTW: Before someone suggests another phone, I really am looking for something CHEAP, and having an external MicroSD card slot really is a big deal!
Thanks!

I have no issues with my L90. Quad core 1.2 ghz BTW , 4 GB internal storage ( user data ), 2 GB system storage. I think 1 GB RAM is advertised by in actuality it's a little over 800 MB. Device is pretty quick. There is a CM11 ( 4.4.4 ) ROM that's fairly stable and with most things working already available for the L90 as well. For most, myself included, the L90 is much much faster running CM11 than stock. Just my opinion tho I paid $150 for mine so if you can get one for $100 I'd climb all over it. LMAO...
Decisions decisions...
Thanks for your response!
I currently have the two Samsung Galaxy Lights... I was wondering if it is worth the extra trip to switch it for the L90's? Just curious since I didn't even look into the phone before buying it...

Bump? Would love to get more insight on this!

Between these 2 phones, the main choice is bigger screen vs faster data. The 4.0" screen on the Light is pretty small. The status bar is cramped, the notification menu takes up a ton of space, typing is a bit iffy, and it's obviously not the best choice for watching videos or playing games. But it has LTE data.
The bigger screen on the L90 is definitely better for easier use and viewing. Pixel density is practically identical to the Light, so text won't be any clearer, but there'll be more of it. However, the L90 doesn't have LTE. Heck, it doesn't even have 42.2Mb/s HSDPA+, only 21.1Mb/s. Thankfully T-Mobile has a very good 3G network wherever they have LTE, so speeds are still pretty decent (for example, in Tucson, T-Mo's 3G speeds are better than Sprint's LTE - although that's not saying much). You could see speeds as slow as 1/3 or 1/4 those of LTE.
If you use wi-fi at home and maybe even at work, I'd go with the L90. If you want to stream music or use it as a mp3 player, and don't care as much about games/video or browsing, go with the Galaxy Light since it's smaller and has LTE.

Some RAM on every device is set aside for the GPU.

Thanks for your detailed response! Yes you are right, I am majority of the times on WiFi, and so would be my brother (whether at home, or at work). That being said, I goes the LTE doesn't make that much of a difference, or at least for me.
My brother essentially would just download multiple apps and just watch videos on YouTube and various other online sources. He also wants to game, a lot.
With all that being said, so you feel getting the L90 would be a better idea for the long run?
Thanks once again!

Yeah, the L90 would probably be the better choice in this case. Bigger battery and better camera than the GL too. And the IPS-LCD screen on the L90, although not having higher pixel density, should be of better quality than the TFT screen of the GL.
A co-worker of mine was faced with the same dilemma, and is going with the L90 as well, since he'll use wi-fi at home, and the 3G speeds in Tucson are plenty for streaming music while he takes the bus across town.

Glad to hear! My original assumption was the 1.4GHz was the way to go, as I assumed it would be faster performance wise (as I was just looking for the fastest phone), but I guess the fact that the processor is not that heard of in the community may be a bit of a risk (in terms of compatiablity) versus the L90 which seems to be popular within the Android community, especially with XDA.
Thanks for your insight! Going to swap both phones first thing tomorrow!

Honestly, the extra 200MHz of the Galaxy Light's Exynos is wasted (and probably more) running the heavy TouchWiz interface. The L90 has a Snapdragon 400, which means an Adreno 305 GPU, which is superior to the Mali-400 the GL has.
I vote for L90, bigger screen, better battery and "self-healing" coating. You may choose samsung if you need performance but i think 1.2gz vs 1.4gz wont gain you any benefit except playing heavy 3d game
So it turns out that all the LG L90's are now backtracked, and there is some sort of "Restocking Fee" of $50 if I were to return both phones.
I told the sales representative that the the person never mentioned of the L90's, but she really kept on complaining that its not her fault (she was the manager). I personally have worked sales jobs as a teenager, but boy, the service at the store was complete crap.
She later goes on claiming the phones are pretty identical, with the screen size being bigger on the LG, but the processor is faster on the Samsung Galaxy Light, making it a far superior phone to the LG L90.
Apparently, if the phone is broken, unusable (OS is slow) then they can return the phone, but I dunno if using that excuse would get me any farther, to be honest.
Do you guys think its worth the hassle at this point?
Sorry but there are 3 threads devoted to discussions about devices, please repost your question in one of these three threads: The what should I buy thread or the The Device Suggestion Thread or the The Device Comparison Thread.
Thanks!
