[Q] TV-out slows down phone badly? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hi, I'm trying to connect my phone with the HDMI cable i've got in box with my full hd tv.
Everything seems to work great - except it seems that my phone slows down noticably - in games, ui responsiveness, everything - i take it may be because outputs 1080p signal to the tv and tries to upscale it?
Did anyone notice that ui responsiveness is not that smooth when the phone is connected to their tv? I was thinking there might be a way to output 720p signal to the tv instead ?
Anyone else experienced this?

It connects at 720p by default.
Ive had it connected to my Monitor at 1080 and 720 and the phone still runs great at either resolution

Can you configure how it connects ? my tv reports 1080 resolution when i plug it in.
And i have like 1/3rd of performance - especially if i try to run any game like cut the rope.

yaeh , just tested again, connects as 1080p and when its connected even scrolling of options or bringing up top dropdown bar is not fluid anymore.
What verson of firmware do you use ? Mine is 6.0.A.3.62.
Ive tried to change the "output quality" setting, but it doesnt seem to do anything in my case. I can only set scaling of phone screen on tb 80%-100% regulation.

Ok, so i've found a "scientific" measurable way to test.
In quadrant (free test in market) i get following results:
Without tv plugged in: ~3100, flyby in room with stairs 30-50 fps
With TV plugged in: ~2700, flyby in room with stairs 20-25 fps so only 50% of what i get normally and it has visible frame skip
Can someone check that on your phone and post your results?

I will give it a try as well when I am done with battery test.

Mine was:
Without tv plugged in: 32-42fps score: 3183
With tv plugged in: 23-26fps score: 2876
Hmmm...

ok so we do have a problem then, since your results confirm mine ....
Now i only hope this is some kind of firmware/driver issue,
Games are completly unplayable (at least for me) when phone is plugged to tv, even simple ones like Canabalt from humblebundle ....
Would be good if someone with firmware different than .62 could post their results.

Quick test with Angry Birds:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auksuKwrGsE
Still on .67

Yup, I can easly see 0.5s delayed response to your finger on the movie.
Ok, any ideas what now? I'm trying to contact Sony support but so far no luck.
This is completly unacceptable for such expensive phone.

So this 0.5sec delay is what's bothering you?

Bothering? this renders this phone useless for any other gaming except things like angry birds where you dont have to react on time - besides some other games like canabalt (where you have constantly scrolling fast screen) lag and drop frames like crazy - totaly unusable. Even "cut the rope" where you need to be precise is non-playable.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czrSoosZsMg
Check out this video on Xperia Arc S - in the end they run Angry Birds Rio and there is no problem like this present.
I also think that running "ubuntu for android" and using is would be a very bad experience with this kind of issues
So yeah... im pretty bothered overall with delay and 50% framedrop.
Got response from sony support that they got notified about an issue and there will be be a firmware update in next 10 days that i hope might correct the issue.

I have to admit, that's a good point. I haven't looked at this from this point of view. Now we have to wait for fix, or maybe there is a way to make it work properly.

Yeah, its interesting to me, that the video of Xperia Arc S i've posted above seems to indicate that the phone doesnt have any issues when connected to tv. So im hoping its something easly fixable with software.

I have uploaded new, longer version now, icluding Angry Birds, Quadrant and video playback:
Sony Xperia S - HDMI TV-out delay - Angry Birds + Quadrant + Playback
Found another one as well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m97iy8XEXc4

Awesome work, now it would be great if we could get attention of someone who made custom roms for Xperias - Maybe they would have a better idea whats going on. On posted videos the problem is more visible.
Im not sure if its really "input lag", i would rather blame some kind of rendering problem - input lag is probably a side effect of this.

I don't have mine yet but could it be because the phone's having to render to 2 screens (one at 720 and one at 720/1080)?. Doing this on a pc increases the load on the system even if the screens are cloned - it would be the same on the phones/tablets as well.
From the little testing I did with my Archos 70 before giving up on trying to get it doing HDMI out reliably (wonky £1 adapter at fault maybe) I found that turns the internal screen off and just uses the touch area as a trackpad so as to give maximum performance to the output.
Now the specs of the Archos 70's are a bit poor at best but it does what I want it for - playing music and video while having a nice big 250gb drive. The specs on the latest round of phones should certainly have the power to run 2 screens without issue. However, any resource intensive work (games for example) would degrade performance in such situations.
Are there any similar problems when playing back video?
Maybe try some less intensive games like Robotek or Frozen Bubble?

I would rather say, there is a delay only. When watching above videos, what comes to your mind first? Delay or lag? I would say there is a delay, because picture is rather smooth. So in that case, it would be a matter of changing some settings, rather than phone can't perform running two screens. Arc s can do it, so Xperia S should be even better.

Not having used either handset and with what you've said, I'd say it's more than likely to be a software issue somewhere. Going by Sony's recent behaviour with updates and support little problems like this should be resolved sooner rather than later.
This is what is drawing me to the Xperia for my next handset as HTC seem to just abandon things once something new is out.
Once I get mine I'll hopefully be able to help out a bit more with stock rom problems.

[Q] For those going back to 1.6 from 2.1, why?

Mostly I am trying to see if this is an isolated issue with mine that might be fixed by rolling the dice again and re-flashing 2.1, but I'm sure people have interesting anecdotes to share as well.
For me, the ROM gave me severe overheating issues. Like, I would be in a heavily air conditioned room playing a video file, and after 20 minutes even though the outside doesn't feel exceptionally warm, running the internal temp monitor would show 98-100 degrees! This heated area was highly localized in the lower left corner, where according to ifixit the processor rests. Without air conditioning, even simply browsing the internet would cause it to eventually overheat.
To add to that, comparing 1.6 to 2.1 charging speed and general battery life seems to be much better after going back to 1.6. Whereas in 2.1 watching a 20-minute video could cut down my battery by 30 percent even in airplane mode, in 1.6 I lose maybe 5 percent in the same situation.
Of course even in 1.6 I am still having troubles with heat when I am in a hot environment, though I don't know if this is just the nature of running a modern smartphone in 29 degree C (84 F) weather. As an aside, has anybody had overheating issues in hot environments?
Several reasons include:
1 - Utterly crap, slow, useless & innaccurate keyboard
2 - Less icons fit on screen
3 - Only 5 home screen in which you cannot remove/add
4 - Wallpaper does not work properly, instead of filling one screen
it distorts and stretches onto all the other screens...
That's all I can think of now...
100*F after 20 minutes of video playback? That's absolutely normal. In fact it's kinda cool.
I'm back on 1.6 because:
No WMA support in stock or aftermarket players (RockPlayer did work, but that's no good for music)
I prefer the 1.6 keyboard
I like Dell's FB, Twitter and RSS widgets
I want my restricted market apps to be available
I do miss (from 2.1)
The eye-candy
Being able to charge in aeroplane mode (what is UP with that anyway?)
The dialer/contact app is great
Did I mention the eye-candy?
2.1 was very pretty and I am very much looking forward to it in an official ROM. IMHO though, it doesn't provide the functionality I need.

Seriously? I mean, what's the point in having a media tablet if it can't even finish a TV episode without an emergency shutdown? Is this normal for android smartphones in general, or is the streak just badly designed?

my guess is that the cpu throttling isnt fully implemented or that it doesnt support hardware decoding.
either way, i feel the 2.1 is pretty buggy, the facebook sync goes funny, the dell rss widget crashes every few hours, and a few more that i cant recall off the top of my head.
waiting eagerly for 2.2 to release.
I have to agree with the other posters...
- New icon spacing is terrible (what a waste of a big screen)
- Old keyboard was better
- Old recent programs menu was better
- Old camera UI was better
- Old desktop (with seperate rooms/wallpapers) was better
If the final OTA update is this bad I'm going to be sticking with 1.6 - and I'll be happy with it.
Updates are supposed to make things better, not worse.

Ok all of that is fixed by third party solutions. ADWlauncher rocks
Did anybody ever have trouble with videos in 2.1? I fixed my overheating issue, got it so that I could watch videos as much as I wanted in 1.6. So I went back to 2.1 thinking my biggest gripe was solved, but now, even at 30 degrees C (86 F), the thing restarts maybe ten minutes into a video.
Not sure whats behind this overheating, but i am running 2.1 since it was leaked without any issues, to be fair I have only watched about 30 mins of District 9 but ran fine.
I was really glad to see the back of 1.6, so many awesome apps were unavailable. As the other post mentioned most of the failures of the current 2.1 can be remedied with other istalls. ADW lets you set the ammount of columns and rows of icons, and up to 7 home pages, plus loads of other tweaks, themes and portrait mode.
I was super dissapointed with the new keyboard too, but the HTC multitouch keyboard is awesome and super fast with really good correction too, only thing that doesnt work yet is auto capitolisation as far as I know, and theres various skins to chose from.
For me there was also a noticable speed increase, this with proper multitouch meets my gaming needs with psx4droid. The dialer and contacts is a huge improvement, as is the stock gallery. Only thing with that is the proximity hangs sometimes and takes a while for the sceen to light up but thats pretty rare and I think that could be some app interfering...
I for one cant wait for the official 2.1 hopefully sligly ironed out release, this will nicely hold me over till froyo, which better be soon Dell!! Though I understand some people cant be bothered to tweak and play with it, just want it working out of the box. I guess coming from WM im used to that LOL..

[Q] funny issues with a day old dell streak 5 :(

Hi,
so I got a dell streak yesterday and I love alot of things about it, but there are some things that are just really getting on my nerves...it is with rogers wireless and on a three year contract...so as soon as I got it, I did the over the air update push from android 1.6 to 2.2.1 and its alot faster abv and all that...but Ive noticed some odd things here they are:
1. Touchscreen seems over sensitive and almost jittery and sometimes it clicks the wrong thing, and yes I did calibrate the touchscreen several times through the bootloader...im a little more used to it now, but its still unacceptable..
2. The most annoying issue is around 50% of the time when I turn the device on it will not recognize the MicroSD as being plugged in and so I turn it off and simply reboot without taking ondd the cover or anything...and it works...so how just that make sense eh?
3. Im surprised that the graphics performance seems pretty bad actually...I know this device is running the Adreno 200 Graphics Chip unlike the 205 on some other smartphones..and it run the decent snapdragon processor, its odd I noticed it lagging on fruit ninja even...which is silly since its not even fully 3d
4. I had this issue with playing videos which seems to be gone for now...where if I played a video through any player (youtube, cnn, media players...etc)
it would stop on the first frame and keep playing the audio and if I forced it to fastforward it would get one more frame and the weirdest part was that it was playing with the color all messed up not negative more like the hue was different...it made peoples heads blue and stuff and it seemed to only apply to 60% of the frame...its working normally now...any ideas on these issues?
thx in advance!

Sony Xperia Tablet (4.0.3) - My Experiance

Hi folks,
Seeing as though i'm one of the first people in the world to get my hands on the device, thought i'd share my opinions and some pictures compared to last years model.
This is the 16GB, WIFI only version purchased from my local Sony store - received 5 this morning.
I was allowed to test the model in the store first, initial drawback was the lack of a micro USB port. You connect the USB through the proprietary slot at the bottom of the device.
I've attached 3 pics of the device out in full sunlight with brightness turned right up.
The device is very responsive and almost lagfree - it's a huge improvement on the Tablet S from last year.
Price is indeed slightly high, but I think it's worth it to say the least.
For me the cons are the power/volume rocker buttons, they are quite stiff and a little far out of the body - quite visible, the other is the lack of micro USB port.
Best improvement is the location of the speakers, now at the bottom of the device, no longer have to cup my hand so it doesn't block the speakers. Looks like Sony are making more of an effort with this device.
Device is lightweight, has a very nice feel and finish to it - good build quality in my opinion.
The device is supposed to be some 20grams lighter but becuase of the aluminium casing at the back, it actually feels heavier than the Tab S.
Screen rotates in all directions. Ability to add widgets as a small app is awesome.
The general look of android on here is fantastic, I love the icons, fair few pre-installed apps too. Feels even better to hold in portrait mode. Feels heavier in landscape mode but lighter in portrait mode. On screen keyboard is responsive.
If you where like me and unsure whether to buy it - I took a gable and it's paid off.
Unlike the Tab S, i've yet to find any bugs in the firmware like the WIFI drop. Quality from rear facing camera is fantastic.
Infact - upon restarting the device, i've just received an OTA which adds more small aps, ability to install smalls apps distributed from Google Play, support write access to SDCard from applications by other companies. Enhanced clipboard function and supports progressive download from Video Unlimited.
This is after 5minutes of playing around - anyone want to know anything just post or send a PM!
My conclusion - I sold my Nexus 7 to part pay for this, did I regret it, not one bloody bit. This is a stunning device, i'd be suprised if it did as bad as the Tab S did.
Few questions:
How's the speaker volume compared with original S?
Any flickering issue while running YouTube or any other app?
How's the default browser?
In 16gb model, how much is available?
Gameloft's latest games are compatible? Can see in market?
Could you try PS3 controller, if you have?
- Speaker quality is alot better than the Tab S and the volume is quite a bit louder.
- No screen flicker.
- Default browser is a lot more responsive and smoother. Chrome is also installed by default aswell as the ICS browser. Flash included.
- Out of the 16GB, I have 10GB available, 80MB is taken up with generic music and videos etc which can be deleted.
- Gameloft games seem to appear, Nova 3, Dark Knight Rises, Modern Combat 3, Men In Black, Asphalt 7 etc.
Don't have a PS3 controller, sorry!
Can't see the PS Store that the Tab 7 had, thought that was included?
Swiping apps from the recent apps tab is very smooth, could almost be JellyBean!
Google Maps is smooth, I like the Walkman app and the Scrapbook.
Very pleased with the device, I really like the Sony native apps. Well done Sony, pulled of a stunner here.

Thanks, waiting for its release in Singapore !!
I can't see the app I saw in a Youtube video where you could fling tv programs off the screen and it would change the channel, it wasn't the remote control.
Thought there was a PS Store too for games or is this not PS certified?
I'll be picking this up this weekend. Happy with what I've heard so far. Sold my Tablet S today.
Have just tried playing a 1080p HD movie in the native video player.
Works flawless, didn't need to convert or anything! Unlike the previous tablet - good to see they've learnt from their mistakes, coupled with this, the screen is fantastic and so is the speaker quality.

Can you do a quick run of Antutu and Quadrant benchmark please ?
Also would love to see some sample photos taken by the rear camera.
Quadrant = 4422.
Antutu = 11463.
Pictures attached, I do admit that one was point slightly into the sun.
Looks good so far. Do you notice any significant improvement in the battery life?

As soon as the device arrived, I charged it to 100%, it's been on for 24hr nows and it's only at 77%.
The battery drop overnight whilst on standby was just 2% - so yes, big difference, for me at least.

That is impressive if its with the Wifi "on" the whole time. No wifi disconect issue i presume?
Update..
of what I've seen, it needs a specific accessory " like 4 inches cable " to support HDMI AND USB port ( 2 in 1 )

I just bought the tablet today.
It's an amazing unit.
My only complaint?
It's not compatible to ntfs devices. I bought the media stand with 3 usb ports and none of them read ntfs.
I called sony and they said because ntfs is owned by microsoft that android will not allow ntfs devices, which is a load of crap, but however, it's a great device otherwise. I tried the asus tablets with the docking keyboard and would have enjoyed keeping that model but they have screen issues which doesn't bode well with me especially when paying over $500 for a stinking unit.
I hope to root this device to mount ntfs drives, but for now will have to make due with fat32. I don't want to return it because it's exactly what I want.
Any idea when the keyboard case will be out and the cost?
I'd think about one of these if it has an unlockable boot loader and some devs hop onboard. Its basically the same problem I have with the new amazon tablets. I have a nexus 7 right now and I like it but I quite like how the tablet s has an ir emitter. Too bad my bravia doesn't have WiFi either. Couldn't afford it.
Someone with one should check and see if the boot loader can be unlocked.

Should I return my HTC One X+ because its overheating after playing HD video?

Hello, I just picked up a HTC One X+ and was wondering if my experience is out of the ordinary, as this is the first real smartphone I've ever had. I picked up a Samsung Dart last year when I wanted a cheap smartphone, but needless to say this phone is in a different league. :good: I noticed after playing a handful of HD videos, and even standard-def video in the Chrome browser, that the top of the HOX+, back and display in front, got pretty hot. I was expecting this device to run warm occasionally, as the reviews had warned me [1], but not this hot. I downloaded the Battery Widget app and set about finding out what the problem was.
I was able to get the internal temperature up to 55 C after playing a bunch of 1080p HD videos, all downloaded from the Apple movie trailers website [2], in MX Player, which seems to decode in software most of the time. I think 1080p decoding takes up 2 cores out of the 4, as the load average in Android is usually around 2 when I enable the Show CPU Usage overlay. I then really stressed it by playing more than a dozen 1080p HD videos back to back for 30-40 minutes straight, and got it up to 60 C, as shown in the screenshot. At that point, the top of the phone was pretty damn hot; it wouldn't burn you, but you wouldn't want to put it up to your head for a phone call.
Do all these quad-core smartphones get this hot or is mine possibly defective? I've been looking for other threads that mention overheating, on this phone and others like the GS3 or Note 2, looks like a few people have been able to get their HOX/+ up to the 60s occasionally [3], while other quad-core phones hit high 40s and low 50s max.
This is a very good smartphone otherwise, haven't gotten voice and internet activated yet, but the display is beautiful and the software is very snappy. The audio seems to crackle a bit in podcasts, not sure if it's the speaker or decoding software. Photos are good, not great, and video is average, both don't seem as good as what I've seen from the original Galaxy Note. But these are the handful of blemishes, it's a very good device in most other ways, pleasure to use the display and the nice build fits my hand well.
Should the overheating be a deal-breaker or am I just being too picky with my first real smartphone? The video is important to me: I was planning on using this phone to watch HD video on the go, on that beautiful 720p display. I'm torn, let me know what you think.

At 60.4 C skin will burn... Does the phone continue to run at that temp or does it shutdown? Also, is you phone stock or have you done modifications? I do not believe that to be normal. My phone has gotten hot before but never hot enough to burn. I suggest contacting HTC for their opinion. They would want to know if they have phones in circulation that can actually cause harm when used.

My HOX+ continues to run fine when its status is Overheat, as far as I can tell. I'm running the HTC Sense 4+ Android 4.1.1 that comes with the HOX+, specifically HTC build 1.17.707.1. I have not modified the pre-installed Android software at all, other than adding a few apps. The temperature drops back into the 50s within a minute and back to the baseline mid-30s within 2-3 mins.
Do you run HD videos for half an hour or more at a time? Because if not, I haven't been able to stress my HOX+ that much in any other way that I normally use it, as I don't play heavy 3D games. I have been thinking about trying to stress it with the Nvidia Glowball demo that got it really hot for that guy in the third link I gave, just to see how hot it gets that way.
If anybody else can try the same HD videos and see if they can reproduce, that might help. You can download 1080p HD trailers at davestrailerpage.co.uk (use the procedure linked at the top "Apple Trailer Download Tips" for Apple trailers) and play several of them back to back in MX Player- best in playlist mode with no break between videos, that's what I did to get the temp up that high- to see if you can get the same internal temperature in the Battery Widget app by Elvison, though other apps that report battery temperature may report the same number. Or there's always the Glowball demo.
I don't think the outside of the HOX+ actually reaches 60 C, I think that is an internal temperature, the outside is likely a bit cooler. I was able to hold the top of the phone in my hands after it got that hot. It was uncomfortable and I just wouldn't want to put it up to my ears and face!
I will contact HTC soon and see what they say. It would help if others can independently verify similar behavior.

I will contact HTC soon and see what they say. It would help if others can independently verify similar behavior.

I had exactly the same problem, i too was considering returning the phone, whilst playing mp4`s the phone would heat up to the point that the status led flashes red and green (external about 45 C), the battery would only last about 2 hrs too, i then flashed arhd and elitekernel, now the phone never heats up even when playing 3d games such as horn, nova 3, mc4, etc and battery life is great with about 5-7 hours of hd mp4 playback depending on brightness, of course flashing these things involves rooting so if you are not willing to make the risk you are probably better off returning the phone.
I have the same problem (it's over 62 C degree). I sent my phone to their official service. They changed the mainboard but it didn't solve the overheating problem. Then everything on my phone went wrong: Overheating, screen flickering, battery drains (phone closes at 14% battery), custom lags...
Evereytime I asked about the problems they told me the same. "Heat is normal... You're the first person who claim this problem... Send your phone to our service..." etc. However, their empty words didn't solve my problem.000
So, I sued to the HTC and it's distributor here.

Question Xperia 1 mark III overheating

Hi,
I noticed my xperia 1 mark III is overheating even in normal use, especially in 120Hz mode. I hope sony will fix it as this device is really scalding.
It really burns!
This is the hottest device I ever had
Software version: 61.0.A.11.23
You're burning up your battery. Time is of the essence, resolve this issue fast. Shutdown the phone if it gets too hot!!!
Auto thermal shutdown may not protect the display/mobo especially if in hot ambient temperatures, in direct sunlight, or when charging.
Keep brightness at 50% or less.
Factory reset.
If that fails...
Find the apks or/and services causing to high drain.
If that fails, return the device.
The clock is ticking, Mr Wick tic-tok...
This is a serious problem. I took some photos and videos (4k and slowmotion) while standing in the sun. Outside temperature was about 23°C (73°F). After about 5 minutes I got an overheat message.
An app that I installed earlier registered an internal temperature of 40.5°c. It felt really hot to (while in a bumper case).
After I put the phone on a granite kitchen table it cooled down in about 10 minutes.

It is serious. Turn off the phone when it feels very warm before it goes over temperature.
Using a AMOLED display in direct sunlight is never a good plan. Limit it to seconds of use.
I have had this same problem since I got it to the point where I got an alert that some apps would be shutdown.
US Version purchased from Adoroma in the states : 61.0.A.11.23
Just another aggravating issue with this phone. Some are having boot loops of a sort also! What is wrong with these companies? Can they not produce a decent product anymore? 1300.00 and it's junk???????????
I am getting overheating as well, a little warm most of the time I use the phone.
Definitely was the 120hz display turned on. Less warm when the 60.
When using the wireless charger.
Anytime I use the cameras.
I am on the latest update as well.
Hm, very intriguing issue with $1300 flagship smartphone from such a respectable brand. I had similar problem with Xperia 1 II in several occasions. And... I think I know what's the problem (not bloody hot SD888 as you might suggest!). Please have a good look at dissasembly video:
Then compare it with $390 LG V60 ThinQ disassembly video from the same guy. Spot the difference! And it is - missing cooling system on Xperia 1 II / 1 III whereas LG V60 has quite big copper vapour chamber! Maybe that's why my LG V60 never gets really hot. So the question is ... WTF are you doing SONY?!
Well, I just sent back my first Pixel - 5A - for overheating. I have been watching the 1 iii and the 5 iii as a possible purchase...but I am turned off by the dedicated assistant button that might possibly be remappable... but for sure I will NOT buy either of these mark 3 phones if they overheat! Makes me sick just how badly most new phones are functioning.
Yeah same, it seems to turn off randomly when using the cameras and when 120HZ screen is on.

I think it's the case for warranty replacement or even return if possible. This is one of the reason why I don't buy expensive brand new phones parallel imported (not officially sold in my country). Just because it means no proper warranty, no service, no nothing.
My Xperia 1 III is getting extremely hot even when taking photos (only 2-3) then get message about hot temperature and apps shutting down.
I use Streamlabs mostly (sometimes Prism) to broadcast to YouTube, foundthe phone almost useless! Overheating in seconds from start of s stream! I'm using my old Samsung Note 10 again as Sony wasn't simply useful.
Now I found a solution to it (sorry solution is too big word)
- I've turned "object tracking" off in camera
- I've turned autofocus on in camera
- I've turned 120hz off
Today we had hot day here in UK (27 Celcius ) I did my tests.
Streamlabs at 1080p , 7000kbps , 30fps run outdoor for about an hour smoothly. Connected to charger started to overheat.
Not to mention that tethering makes it hot quickly (so with Samsung).
Prism at 1080p 60fps run smoothly for couple of minutes and then crashed.
Didn't connect the charger.
I use Streamlabs to transmit 5-6 hours of stream into YouTube using mobile network in most if the times and whilst driving (so changing stations constantly)
I found that using WiFi it doesn't get as hot.
Also charging makes it very hot - SONY advertised it as able to by powered directly by a charger without charging battery, how and where do I find that option?
Is it available using car charger with quick charge 3.0?
I like the phone , like the shape , size and feel to it. Camera is OK (I own Sony a6500 )
Hate the fact of poor selfie camera in such expensive phone (I do live streams using selfie cam too)
Right I've ordered a return of my phone and have 30 days to send it back what alternatives do I have? Really like the SONY if it wasn't overheating I'd love it. Is there a solution to it? Cooler anything?
The things I like about the phone are:
*shape and overall feel in hand
*Cameras are ok don't really see if they great quality or not will still use my a6500 camera.
*Like the fact that can use sd card
*Love finger print reader in power button and seperate camera button
*like the fact that there's no rounded edges - hate them in my Samsung Note
I blame my problems with overheating by poorly made apps not the phone itself and not sure changing the phone will change it.
What are the options should I consider? Samsung S21 Ultra ? iPhone 12,13?
I'm a SONY fan and had many if their phones and that's why I'm looking for a solution otherwise would send it back straight away...
Can anyone help me with my problem?
Many thanks
Bart
Unfortunately greedy sony didn't provide any cooling solution to mark 3... Check disassembly videos, there is no any cooling solution at all, like you will find in asus - small vapor chamber etc. Literally nothing!
They knew snap 888 is overheating. They must have tested this device before releasing it, isn't it?
But no, still didn't apply any cooling solution. And that's a big shame and huge problem of this device.
Not sure if qualcomm provide any updated drivers to assess this problem or not. Or if sony will try to fix it. So far they did nothing and still it overheats. Mine too and you are right by saying that on 3G/5G it is hotter than on wifi.
I wonder how they can market battery as capable and better for 3 years with such hot device. Temperature of course has huge negative impact on battery longevity.
Sad but true
I'm quite shocked! Thanks for the info about disassembly videos...
I'm thinking if getting a cooler which you attach to the body.
What I forgot to mention that cameras itself (the lenses) don't get that hot is the area under them and closer to the centre. So must be processor and lack of cooling system.
Not sure what to do...
We have a hot weather now so I will test it intensively (if I was a Sony tester I'd never allow for the phone to be released like this).
Heating problems is why I keep saying that for any SOC/CPU/GPU manufacturer to keep upping the speeds of these things is STUPID! I can virtually guarantee that from now on every new CPU produced by all OEM's is going to overheat! Have you ever walked into a data center, with hundreds of servers running? You have to wear ear protection because the roar of all the internal cooling fans is deafening!
So then "we" attempt to put similar CPU's inside a device the size of a small remote control WITHOUT a fan and wonder why it overheats? There are only so many ways to keep the phone(s) cool. Use them while frozen solid in a block of ice, or better yet, stop running so many CPU/GPU intensive apps all at the same time. It's simple thermodynamics at work here. The more you have running at the same time, the harder the SOC needs to work, the hotter it is going to run. Another solution, that is literally unacceptable to most people, is to code in a lowering of the speed of the SOC. If this needs to be done then it becomes very clear that building a new, faster SOC every year is STUPID!
One more thing... I've heard that Xperia 1III is capable of powering the phone directly without battery charging to lower the heat...Does anyone know how do I turn this future on?

This is applicable with the game enhancer. You can add some apps there and when you open it, you can enable HS power control. Also sony just release a new firmware that answer you with this issue.. you can check my video

Thanks a lot , tomorrow I will be testing - doing long live stream on YouTube using Streamlabs, I always keep my phone under charger as I drive HGV sometimes for 3-4hrs non stop so battery would die.
It also going to be hot day here in UK and having the phone close to windscreen won't help - I know I shouldn't complain about overheating in such circumstances but my phone overheats even when taking photos although I have a feeling that after last system update its looking better , also as I mentioned before switching off object tracking has improved how smooth camera works using Streamlabs and Prism.
I'm considering buying a cooler for my phone too.
I will post my report tomorrow of how it went.
Many thanks

I found the future now in Game Enhancer app, you can power it directly. Not sure how it will perform yet. Tomorrow will send my report.
I often run streaming app in the background and not sure if Game Enhancer will work that way. I run nav app (Sygic Truck).
Heat problem has gone down significantly for me after the latest update yesterday. Usually the phone got really warm even with me just browsing using Chrome or going through Facebook. Now even when playing ROK or Mobile Legends it doesn't get that warm.
