Sony Xperia Tablet (4.0.3) - My Experiance - Sony Tablet S

Hi folks,
Seeing as though i'm one of the first people in the world to get my hands on the device, thought i'd share my opinions and some pictures compared to last years model.
This is the 16GB, WIFI only version purchased from my local Sony store - received 5 this morning.
I was allowed to test the model in the store first, initial drawback was the lack of a micro USB port. You connect the USB through the proprietary slot at the bottom of the device.
I've attached 3 pics of the device out in full sunlight with brightness turned right up.
The device is very responsive and almost lagfree - it's a huge improvement on the Tablet S from last year.
Price is indeed slightly high, but I think it's worth it to say the least.
For me the cons are the power/volume rocker buttons, they are quite stiff and a little far out of the body - quite visible, the other is the lack of micro USB port.
Best improvement is the location of the speakers, now at the bottom of the device, no longer have to cup my hand so it doesn't block the speakers. Looks like Sony are making more of an effort with this device.
Device is lightweight, has a very nice feel and finish to it - good build quality in my opinion.
The device is supposed to be some 20grams lighter but becuase of the aluminium casing at the back, it actually feels heavier than the Tab S.
Screen rotates in all directions. Ability to add widgets as a small app is awesome.
The general look of android on here is fantastic, I love the icons, fair few pre-installed apps too. Feels even better to hold in portrait mode. Feels heavier in landscape mode but lighter in portrait mode. On screen keyboard is responsive.
If you where like me and unsure whether to buy it - I took a gable and it's paid off.
Unlike the Tab S, i've yet to find any bugs in the firmware like the WIFI drop. Quality from rear facing camera is fantastic.
Infact - upon restarting the device, i've just received an OTA which adds more small aps, ability to install smalls apps distributed from Google Play, support write access to SDCard from applications by other companies. Enhanced clipboard function and supports progressive download from Video Unlimited.
This is after 5minutes of playing around - anyone want to know anything just post or send a PM!
My conclusion - I sold my Nexus 7 to part pay for this, did I regret it, not one bloody bit. This is a stunning device, i'd be suprised if it did as bad as the Tab S did.

Few questions:
How's the speaker volume compared with original S?
Any flickering issue while running YouTube or any other app?
How's the default browser?
In 16gb model, how much is available?
Gameloft's latest games are compatible? Can see in market?
Could you try PS3 controller, if you have?

- Speaker quality is alot better than the Tab S and the volume is quite a bit louder.
- No screen flicker.
- Default browser is a lot more responsive and smoother. Chrome is also installed by default aswell as the ICS browser. Flash included.
- Out of the 16GB, I have 10GB available, 80MB is taken up with generic music and videos etc which can be deleted.
- Gameloft games seem to appear, Nova 3, Dark Knight Rises, Modern Combat 3, Men In Black, Asphalt 7 etc.
Don't have a PS3 controller, sorry!
Can't see the PS Store that the Tab 7 had, thought that was included?
Swiping apps from the recent apps tab is very smooth, could almost be JellyBean!
Google Maps is smooth, I like the Walkman app and the Scrapbook.
Very pleased with the device, I really like the Sony native apps. Well done Sony, pulled of a stunner here.

Thanks, waiting for its release in Singapore !!

I can't see the app I saw in a Youtube video where you could fling tv programs off the screen and it would change the channel, it wasn't the remote control.
Thought there was a PS Store too for games or is this not PS certified?

I'll be picking this up this weekend. Happy with what I've heard so far. Sold my Tablet S today.

Have just tried playing a 1080p HD movie in the native video player.
Works flawless, didn't need to convert or anything! Unlike the previous tablet - good to see they've learnt from their mistakes, coupled with this, the screen is fantastic and so is the speaker quality.

Planning to buy any accessories?
sent from the BEaST Galaxy S3

Wanted the HDMI cable adapter but it's 15£!
Would like the keyboard cover when released and I have the money.
This is a really awesome device.
Although i've tried logging into the Social Life app, but it just produces an error, grr.

Can you do a quick run of Antutu and Quadrant benchmark please ?
Also would love to see some sample photos taken by the rear camera.

Quadrant = 4422.
Antutu = 11463.
Pictures attached, I do admit that one was point slightly into the sun.

Looks good so far. Do you notice any significant improvement in the battery life?
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using xda app-developers app

As soon as the device arrived, I charged it to 100%, it's been on for 24hr nows and it's only at 77%.
The battery drop overnight whilst on standby was just 2% - so yes, big difference, for me at least.

Is elastic scrolling and local search still available?
How bout WiFi direct?

Hi there ..
Can yo give us a Specific informations about the Antutu benchmark .. ?
a photo with detailed score would be OK .. =)
Also , are yo a gaming Fan , and have yo tried any game .. ??
about the Lack of USB , I've heard it has a port on the Bottom which yo could use as an HDMI port , USB port , or a Charger adapter .. :>
look here :
http://blog.sony.com/tag/xperia-tablet-s
how is the Flash support too .. ?
Open this web page in your browser in the Tablet .. and click on download on step 4..
http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html
It will open like a " hidden app " in the market which yo can use to download the flash player ..
Let us know how it goes .. and specially for the flash player ..
thanks ... :>

That is impressive if its with the Wifi "on" the whole time. No wifi disconect issue i presume?

Update..
of what I've seen, it needs a specific accessory " like 4 inches cable " to support HDMI AND USB port ( 2 in 1 )

I just bought the tablet today.
It's an amazing unit.
My only complaint?
It's not compatible to ntfs devices. I bought the media stand with 3 usb ports and none of them read ntfs.
I called sony and they said because ntfs is owned by microsoft that android will not allow ntfs devices, which is a load of crap, but however, it's a great device otherwise. I tried the asus tablets with the docking keyboard and would have enjoyed keeping that model but they have screen issues which doesn't bode well with me especially when paying over $500 for a stinking unit.
I hope to root this device to mount ntfs drives, but for now will have to make due with fat32. I don't want to return it because it's exactly what I want.

Any idea when the keyboard case will be out and the cost?

I'd think about one of these if it has an unlockable boot loader and some devs hop onboard. Its basically the same problem I have with the new amazon tablets. I have a nexus 7 right now and I like it but I quite like how the tablet s has an ir emitter. Too bad my bravia doesn't have WiFi either. Couldn't afford it.
Someone with one should check and see if the boot loader can be unlocked.

[Q] For those going back to 1.6 from 2.1, why?

Mostly I am trying to see if this is an isolated issue with mine that might be fixed by rolling the dice again and re-flashing 2.1, but I'm sure people have interesting anecdotes to share as well.
For me, the ROM gave me severe overheating issues. Like, I would be in a heavily air conditioned room playing a video file, and after 20 minutes even though the outside doesn't feel exceptionally warm, running the internal temp monitor would show 98-100 degrees! This heated area was highly localized in the lower left corner, where according to ifixit the processor rests. Without air conditioning, even simply browsing the internet would cause it to eventually overheat.
To add to that, comparing 1.6 to 2.1 charging speed and general battery life seems to be much better after going back to 1.6. Whereas in 2.1 watching a 20-minute video could cut down my battery by 30 percent even in airplane mode, in 1.6 I lose maybe 5 percent in the same situation.
Of course even in 1.6 I am still having troubles with heat when I am in a hot environment, though I don't know if this is just the nature of running a modern smartphone in 29 degree C (84 F) weather. As an aside, has anybody had overheating issues in hot environments?
Several reasons include:
1 - Utterly crap, slow, useless & innaccurate keyboard
2 - Less icons fit on screen
3 - Only 5 home screen in which you cannot remove/add
4 - Wallpaper does not work properly, instead of filling one screen
it distorts and stretches onto all the other screens...
That's all I can think of now...
100*F after 20 minutes of video playback? That's absolutely normal. In fact it's kinda cool.
I'm back on 1.6 because:
No WMA support in stock or aftermarket players (RockPlayer did work, but that's no good for music)
I prefer the 1.6 keyboard
I like Dell's FB, Twitter and RSS widgets
I want my restricted market apps to be available
I do miss (from 2.1)
The eye-candy
Being able to charge in aeroplane mode (what is UP with that anyway?)
The dialer/contact app is great
Did I mention the eye-candy?
2.1 was very pretty and I am very much looking forward to it in an official ROM. IMHO though, it doesn't provide the functionality I need.

Seriously? I mean, what's the point in having a media tablet if it can't even finish a TV episode without an emergency shutdown? Is this normal for android smartphones in general, or is the streak just badly designed?

my guess is that the cpu throttling isnt fully implemented or that it doesnt support hardware decoding.
either way, i feel the 2.1 is pretty buggy, the facebook sync goes funny, the dell rss widget crashes every few hours, and a few more that i cant recall off the top of my head.
waiting eagerly for 2.2 to release.
I have to agree with the other posters...
- New icon spacing is terrible (what a waste of a big screen)
- Old keyboard was better
- Old recent programs menu was better
- Old camera UI was better
- Old desktop (with seperate rooms/wallpapers) was better
If the final OTA update is this bad I'm going to be sticking with 1.6 - and I'll be happy with it.
Updates are supposed to make things better, not worse.

Ok all of that is fixed by third party solutions. ADWlauncher rocks
Did anybody ever have trouble with videos in 2.1? I fixed my overheating issue, got it so that I could watch videos as much as I wanted in 1.6. So I went back to 2.1 thinking my biggest gripe was solved, but now, even at 30 degrees C (86 F), the thing restarts maybe ten minutes into a video.
Not sure whats behind this overheating, but i am running 2.1 since it was leaked without any issues, to be fair I have only watched about 30 mins of District 9 but ran fine.
I was really glad to see the back of 1.6, so many awesome apps were unavailable. As the other post mentioned most of the failures of the current 2.1 can be remedied with other istalls. ADW lets you set the ammount of columns and rows of icons, and up to 7 home pages, plus loads of other tweaks, themes and portrait mode.
I was super dissapointed with the new keyboard too, but the HTC multitouch keyboard is awesome and super fast with really good correction too, only thing that doesnt work yet is auto capitolisation as far as I know, and theres various skins to chose from.
For me there was also a noticable speed increase, this with proper multitouch meets my gaming needs with psx4droid. The dialer and contacts is a huge improvement, as is the stock gallery. Only thing with that is the proximity hangs sometimes and takes a while for the sceen to light up but thats pretty rare and I think that could be some app interfering...
I for one cant wait for the official 2.1 hopefully sligly ironed out release, this will nicely hold me over till froyo, which better be soon Dell!! Though I understand some people cant be bothered to tweak and play with it, just want it working out of the box. I guess coming from WM im used to that LOL..

Anyone have the 250gb Archos 70?

Want to know if you see any performance/functionality difference with the extra space/different storage?
Well I don't have an 8gb tablet to compare to but I really enjoy the tablet so far. It moves relatively fast. Sometimes certain apps or jumping amongst them can cause less than instant loading but it certainly isn't bad. One recommendation I have though is to shut off Wi-Fi at night or whenever you know you're not going to use it. Leaving it on while the tablet goes into standby can cause it to die overnight.
I was thinking of getting one and using it as like my media hub for my car is that a bad idea. ... what do you guys think
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
How would that work? Sorry, I've never seen one before. But as far as storage piece for media that should be cool. I'm sure there are plenty of musical apps on the market to choose from to find the right one.
I have since a few weeks the Archos 70 250gb. After the latest Firmware Update it works fantastic. Lots of space of course on its hd... maybe sometimes a bit slow (might a SSD be faster - but more expensive, right)...
Movies are great, most apps work. Resolution is ok... better then expected.
I only would trade it in for another tablet with big storage...
One of the few things that bother me ist the on/off button. It cannot be locked. This is annoying, if you have the tablet in your case and by mistake you touch it... Always have to put in a way that nothing touches that button.
It doesn't replace my laptop, but it replaces nearly my phone. I used with skype for calling and it works fine.
It's a newspaper in the morning, it helps me with my gym excercises, my language learning, my social contacts, watching movies, listening to music...
It is big enough to enjoy a movie, but yet small enough to carry anywhere without "showing" off.
And all for a relatively small pricetag.
I would say, go for it... or maybe you already did?

[Q] Tablet S: should I buy it?

A question for you all, who already own the Sony tablet S. After the recent price drop I was thinking about buying it, but reading some online reviews, I've almost changed my mind.
These are the issues which can drive me on different products:
- poor screen brightness
- easily scratchable screen
- difficult rendering on certain websites (strange half page displays)
- problems with screen rotation: it often stucks
- poor battery life
- battery drains while the tablet is in stand-by mode
- low memory free space: just 3.7 GB available for apps and system files
- poor movie file compatibility: no way to play .mkv movies (Techradar says: "...anyone who wants to watch video on their Sony Tablet will need to spend hours recoding their files")
Have you experienced these issues too?
Is this tablet worth its (even reduced) price?
Thanks a lot for your replies. I really need them to decide...

Thanks for the reply. I read that thread but I could find there just a couple of answers. Nothing about the battery, for instance, which is one of my biggest doubts.
You will find flaws in every tablet out there. No one is perfect
- easily scratchable screen <-- mine isn't. No scratches yet.
- difficult rendering on certain websites <-- nothing I have noticed (yet)
- problems with screen rotation: it often stucks <- not on my tablet
- poor battery life <-- depends on what you compare with. What do you expext? I think 8-10 hours is good. Sometimes more depending what you do with the machine.
- battery drains while the tablet is in stand-by mode <-- tru, but don't all do that? and what do they know with drains, 4-5% a night? I don't see that as any real problem.
- low memory free space: just 3.7 GB available for apps and system files <-- you have SD-card slot that you can use for movies, music, pictures and other stuff. 3.7gb can get you pretty far anyhow. I manage with less that 400mb on my cell-phone. Ok, if you install a lot of ps-games and/or download a lot of movies (rental/buy) then yes 3.7 will be lost fast.
Hope this will clear up some more. Anything else? just ask.
You might want to go ahead and get the transformer prime...
At the current price of $399 It's an awesome Tablet.. I sold my Galaxy Tab 10.1 a few days ago and picked the Sony up.. No regrets at all as it is an awesome Tablet..

The transformer t201 (prime) wa. s my first choice. But here in Italy it will be priced starting from 499 euro. I found the Tablet S at 318 euro. So, since I already own a i-5 Sony vaio as desktop replacement, i don't need too mobile power and the price difference is driving my choice.
I will get the tablet S
Thanks for the replies. I will get the Tablet S. See you in this forum as soon as I will get it with my first impressions.
Extremely happy with mine, and I have owned xoom, ipad, thrive and galaxy...
The ir universal remote control is pure genius.
You should buy it. My only gripe is the bright LED. Other than that great tablet and i agree IR function is unrivaled. I also own galaxy 7 plus and HTC flyer. Each have perks, but Sony is the bigger all rounder.

I think you should buy it then. incredible price with incredible spec, i just order this tablet.
I've had my Tablet for a couple of weeks now (I got it the day of the price drop here in Aus) and I have been very impressed. As a previous owner of a Galaxy Tab, this is a pretty damn awesome tablet.
My screen still looks as spectacular as always, webpages always work (except for iPhone-specific ones, which get stretched badly) and the battery has been stupendous. With the tablet in standby, I've only ever lost a maximum of 3% over a whole night.
The video problems that site mentions are there on the stock apps (the stock Video Player seems quite picky), but can easily be circumvented with any of the apps from the Market.
I would definitely suggest buying this, even just for the IR blaster, which is amazing!

Battery life: I've managed to get 8:30 hours of continuous play, browsing, videos etc on a single charge.
Multimedia: I've found a great combination: File Manager HD (can access files from the real sd card connected as well as shares from a windows pc) + VPlayer (plays all of my videos, mkv, avi & mp4 from the sd card or streaming from pc with no problems at all)
just buy the damn tablet already; you'll love it. battery life is great. screen is great. software is great but compatibility with market apps is not so great (for now).
I've looked at many tablets (and the overpriced ipad2) before choosing the Sony S. I think it is a great tablet and has many features that aren't offered in any other competing product. The IR is cool (works on most devices), the PS compatibility is another good feature although currently only PS One games are supported
Screen and brightness are good, battery life is very good (I have read a review that ranked it lower than the iPad2 due to poor battery but I have to disagree with that!
Had a few issues with WiFi but not all the time, when it happens I just turn off WiFi then on again and the problem goes away
For the price I would highly recommend it

[Q] TV-out slows down phone badly?

Hi, I'm trying to connect my phone with the HDMI cable i've got in box with my full hd tv.
Everything seems to work great - except it seems that my phone slows down noticably - in games, ui responsiveness, everything - i take it may be because outputs 1080p signal to the tv and tries to upscale it?
Did anyone notice that ui responsiveness is not that smooth when the phone is connected to their tv? I was thinking there might be a way to output 720p signal to the tv instead ?
Anyone else experienced this?
It connects at 720p by default.
Ive had it connected to my Monitor at 1080 and 720 and the phone still runs great at either resolution
Can you configure how it connects ? my tv reports 1080 resolution when i plug it in.
And i have like 1/3rd of performance - especially if i try to run any game like cut the rope.
yaeh , just tested again, connects as 1080p and when its connected even scrolling of options or bringing up top dropdown bar is not fluid anymore.
What verson of firmware do you use ? Mine is 6.0.A.3.62.
Ive tried to change the "output quality" setting, but it doesnt seem to do anything in my case. I can only set scaling of phone screen on tb 80%-100% regulation.
Ok, so i've found a "scientific" measurable way to test.
In quadrant (free test in market) i get following results:
Without tv plugged in: ~3100, flyby in room with stairs 30-50 fps
With TV plugged in: ~2700, flyby in room with stairs 20-25 fps so only 50% of what i get normally and it has visible frame skip
Can someone check that on your phone and post your results?
I will give it a try as well when I am done with battery test.

Mine was:

With tv plugged in: 23-26fps score: 2876
Hmmm...
ok so we do have a problem then, since your results confirm mine ....
Now i only hope this is some kind of firmware/driver issue,
Games are completly unplayable (at least for me) when phone is plugged to tv, even simple ones like Canabalt from humblebundle ....
Would be good if someone with firmware different than .62 could post their results.
Quick test with Angry Birds:

Still on .67
Yup, I can easly see 0.5s delayed response to your finger on the movie.
Ok, any ideas what now? I'm trying to contact Sony support but so far no luck.
This is completly unacceptable for such expensive phone.
So this 0.5sec delay is what's bothering you?
Bothering? this renders this phone useless for any other gaming except things like angry birds where you dont have to react on time - besides some other games like canabalt (where you have constantly scrolling fast screen) lag and drop frames like crazy - totaly unusable. Even "cut the rope" where you need to be precise is non-playable.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czrSoosZsMg
Check out this video on Xperia Arc S - in the end they run Angry Birds Rio and there is no problem like this present.
I also think that running "ubuntu for android" and using is would be a very bad experience with this kind of issues
So yeah... im pretty bothered overall with delay and 50% framedrop.
Got response from sony support that they got notified about an issue and there will be be a firmware update in next 10 days that i hope might correct the issue.

I have to admit, that's a good point. I haven't looked at this from this point of view. Now we have to wait for fix, or maybe there is a way to make it work properly.
Yeah, its interesting to me, that the video of Xperia Arc S i've posted above seems to indicate that the phone doesnt have any issues when connected to tv. So im hoping its something easly fixable with software.
I have uploaded new, longer version now, icluding Angry Birds, Quadrant and video playback:
Sony Xperia S - HDMI TV-out delay - Angry Birds + Quadrant + Playback
Found another one as well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m97iy8XEXc4
Awesome work, now it would be great if we could get attention of someone who made custom roms for Xperias - Maybe they would have a better idea whats going on. On posted videos the problem is more visible.
Im not sure if its really "input lag", i would rather blame some kind of rendering problem - input lag is probably a side effect of this.
I don't have mine yet but could it be because the phone's having to render to 2 screens (one at 720 and one at 720/1080)?. Doing this on a pc increases the load on the system even if the screens are cloned - it would be the same on the phones/tablets as well.
From the little testing I did with my Archos 70 before giving up on trying to get it doing HDMI out reliably (wonky £1 adapter at fault maybe) I found that turns the internal screen off and just uses the touch area as a trackpad so as to give maximum performance to the output.
Now the specs of the Archos 70's are a bit poor at best but it does what I want it for - playing music and video while having a nice big 250gb drive. The specs on the latest round of phones should certainly have the power to run 2 screens without issue. However, any resource intensive work (games for example) would degrade performance in such situations.
Are there any similar problems when playing back video?
Maybe try some less intensive games like Robotek or Frozen Bubble?
I would rather say, there is a delay only. When watching above videos, what comes to your mind first? Delay or lag? I would say there is a delay, because picture is rather smooth. So in that case, it would be a matter of changing some settings, rather than phone can't perform running two screens. Arc s can do it, so Xperia S should be even better.
Not having used either handset and with what you've said, I'd say it's more than likely to be a software issue somewhere. Going by Sony's recent behaviour with updates and support little problems like this should be resolved sooner rather than later.
This is what is drawing me to the Xperia for my next handset as HTC seem to just abandon things once something new is out.
Once I get mine I'll hopefully be able to help out a bit more with stock rom problems.

What do you hate the most about the Compact?

I want a new phone. I was a Z3C user but it died of some power supply issue (became dead and couldn't charge/power on for a period from 1 day up to a week).
But I love the form factor. Small yet powerful.
Still, heard too many problems. So I hope the existing users could suggest the more irritating problem after at least one month of usage.
Hopefully the problem is not a deal breaker for me...

Too slippery.
Camera app - too noisy, poor focus (Sony needs to put out an open camera2 api)
Some apps can't write to external SD, some other little things (basically phone needs root without being crippled!)

Camera app - too noisy, poor focus (Sony needs to put out an open camera2 api)
Some apps can't write to external SD, some other little things (basically phone needs root without being crippled!)

Some apps can't write to external SD? That's not a Z5 compact or even a Sony problem. That's Google's fault actually. Atleast sony allows its system apps and file commander to write to sd card

I understand, that's why I wrote (phone needs root)
Too bad, I thought the Z5 compact has got the best combination of hardware and size for me, only to be crippled by the software...
- slippery chasis - fixed by silicone case
- long camera init
- no series mode for camera
- Very slow opening of camera app
- Fingerprint sensor doesn't function well when you're hands are even only a bit sweaty/wet (very irritating during workouts, when you want to look at the screen every now and then)
Other problems (slow response times, random reboots) seem to have been solved with the latest firmware.
- The back of my phone gets super hot.
- The phone lags, if I'm playing a game & some one tries to call me, the phone locks up.
- It's slippery... But it is sexy.
- Camera is slow to open.
- Album is slow to open.
- I've had the phone for 2 weeks & the head phone jack seems to be broken & not recognising headsets properly.
- Has fast charge capabilities apparently, just doesn't come with a fast charger.
- Supplied head set is junk, it's uncomfortable & doesn't have volume control.
- My 1St experience with the Sony Back Up & Restore software was terrible.
i hate the most that there is no cm for it yet.
Software - phone feels slower than my Nexus 5
Camera - I really miss HDR+ mode, sometimes shots are great sometimes really bad

Don't listen to them. I've been used it for 2 weeks and the latest OTA been fixed many stuffs and I don't experience any lag or slow camera now.
The only bugged me thing it gets hot during medium/heavy load but still in acceptable range(not as hot as Z3+) consider it is a SD810, other problems are minimum on this phone. Battery performance is about the same with my Z1c, I think it won't be as good as Z3c but still fine. Camera got very slightly quality improvement(mainly better color and WB, details is just about the same with Z1c/Z3c little better) but the focus performance way better than Z1c/Z3c.
My previous phone is / was a Z1C and I jumped over to a Z3C when they came and sent it back disappointed. It felt cheap, plasticky, lighter than the Z1C I was used to. IMO Sony was going the wrong direction with those rounded hard plastic cover corners.
I got the Z5C and I sumit the opinion that all those trends have been reversed and the Z5C is as good if not better in terms of stability and build quality. The sturdy edge running around the Z5C that tives it the odd boxy look feels reassuringly solid.
What sucks? Hmm. I dearly miss root and Exposed, but then again many things that I absolutely NEEDED root for back then can now be accomplished by different apps that dont need root or have made their way as official features into stock (backup&restore or rather Xperia Transfer instead if TiBackup, being able to hide app icons, turn off bloatware etc). It's readjustment for me, using diff tools instead of one TiBackup procedure. But after a while everything is set up for me and right now there is not one single "killer feature" of being rooted that I have to admit missing daily. So i guess I will wait it out.
Phone slippery? I think the edge is just fine to hold and no worse than other phones.
Camera starting slow? Well, if that is slow, how fast is fast? I can't see how it lags in any way... app comes in an blink of an eye.
The biggest disappointment regarding my phone upgrade... well probably that it is another Z-Series. The supposed leaks (or maybe more fanboy fiction specs) pointed to a killer phone, i really thought Sony would pull the Z-Series or slim it down and go for a revival of the P-Series. Or maybe it is still upcoming in Q1/16. I would trade any Z-Series for the P2 if it lives up to the rumours...
What I hate is the PSN / XPeria Lounge / Sociallife / blabla related bloatcrap. But since basically anything in that category can be disabled in App-Manager I don't lose sleep over it.
Mine is a minor headache and it's Android's fault not Sony's. There should be a palm detection. Phone has small side bezels and the narrow width are awesome for my small hands but when hold firmly one handed and reaching my thumb across the screen, my palm hits the screen sometimes...
- really bad position of the volume button
- too slippery (won't use it without a case)
- using speaker during calls is horrible for the other party even with low volume
- no root without loosing DRM keys (yet)
so far, nothing else to complain about
My complaint is unforgivable. It's that I can't put my phone down because I enjoy it too much ?

I was considering buying the Z5C but after finding out that the fingerprint reader cannot be used by any third-party app at the moment I decided to hold off. Apparently Sony hasn't provided an API for the fingerprint reader so apps like Lastpass can't hook in. As a Samsung GS6 user, this is hard to go back to. Once you get used to using your finger to log into apps and websites it feels archaic to go back to typing, not to mention PITA. Once they upgrade to Marshmallow the problem is likely to go away because hopefully Sony will use the built-in fingerprint reader code which already provides an API that is already utilised/supported by Lastpass etc. Just noting.
